I wouldn't say they're any better at doing nails than most places and they nickel and dime you for everything (including having your nails shaped). IMO the prices are absolutely absurd and the quality, while good enough, does not match up to the outrageous prices. The customer service also leaves much to be desired. I think everyone is stressed out because they're understaffed, but the way to combat that is to stop overbooking so everyone isn't running around like chickens with their heads cut off- and that would lead to employees being nicer to customers. I will say that it's nice and clean for the most part, though to me it's pretty nauseating that they stick everyone's fingers in the dip containers. The quality of the manicures here really depend on who you get. I have come here a few times that were great and other times where my nails ended up streaky and chipped quickly. The price for gels is $35 which is similar to/a little higher than other salons in the area. Every time I have come, regardless of whether I had a reservation or not, they were either over-booked or under-staffed. The same nail technician would be working on two or three people at a time so while your nails soak or dry, they will go work on someone else's nails, and then hop back to your station. It definitely makes the process take longer. On one occasion it took over 2 hours to get gels done. I made the mistake of coming here before reading their reviews. Like other reviews noted, prices are outrageously expensive for basic mani pedi and they add an additional $6 if you ask for more than 2 colors in a mani pedi. I asked why and the woman at the front desk got real snippy and said because "it takes a lot of time even though it may not seem like that to you." I think that was a fair question for me to ask as a customer but she responded very rudely and proceeded to make passive aggressive comments that we don't need to receive their services even though we were already getting pedicures. I'm not sure why it costs $6 to open up more than 2 bottles of polish in a mani pedi but it sounds like from other reviews that this particular salon nickel and dimes basic services that every other salon provides as standard. Also, please note that they don't have a pricing board posted on their walls. Instead, they have a tiny screen at the front desk that is inconspicuous to most patrons, and they tell you about additional charges after you are already seated. If the woman at the front desk just stopped talking and making passive aggressive comments while she was doing our nails, it would have made our experience much more enjoyable. Whatever they make on charging extra, they probably lose in tips due to the poor experience and attitude. I had an awesome experience at Lee's Nails! I think I've found my go to salon in Charlottesville. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and taken in at exactly my appointment time. The interior was cute and extremely clean. I got dip nails- the color selection was fantastic and my tech paid a lot of attention to detail, making sure the shape and application was exactly what I wanted. They don't seem to take many walk-ins so definitely make an appointment. The upside to that is they weren't over booked and took everyone who came in as soon as their appointment time came up. "How does that look and feel to you?" What a nice touch! I don't get my nails done that frequently but I was so happy with the manicure I got that I think I'll have to do this more often. $40 for a gel manicure is comparable to the other places around town that I called. When I questioned the total at checkout.... Response: "I've been charged incorrectly other times (every time?!?!?!) or "they should have told me before I came in" ..... YOU THINK! Considering I've been there with my daughter, granddaughter, numerous occasions again same thing and NEVER this amount. I get the charges for the SNS pink and white But none of the charges for the pedicure..... It took THREE hours that's on YOU for scheduling appts and conducting an interview during my appt. Craziness..... I left a tip because that's business however I will not ever recommend this salon to anyone again. If you choose to go and give it a try. Went here on ratings and reviews from Yelp. The place was clean and they are following CDC guidelines, however, when it came to my nails I was very dissatisfied. The woman that I spoke to to make the appointment was almost condescending and in person she was down right rude. My nails are too thick and when I asked her to clean out the powder and glue she left behind using a drill (which is what I am used to) she refused. I was happy they were able to accommodate my walk in after my usual spot fell through. I needed a fill, pedicure and eyebrow wax. Unfortunately I was unaware that this salon only does dip nails and not fill ins or acrylics so I will still have to go somewhere else later. Everyone was very nice and asked if everything was okay during each step of the process. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get the French tip I usually get on my toes due to the time policy apparently. Staff seems to change frequently and you cannot request a specific tech, based on my experience. The owner will tell you you get who's available when you get there so the quality of the work greatly varies although overall it is not bad. What irritated me most was that I had to once cancel an appointment the same day due to an emergency. I had been an off and on again customer for years and for months after the cancellation of the appointment I continued making it on time, but was always "reminded" of the time I had to cancel. As a result of the negative feedback i left in my last post, I have been informed by the owner I'm no longer welcome at their business. I recognize and respect that this is their right as a privately owned business, but the lack of professionalism as a result of negative feedback is significant. In the service industry, reputation and word of mouth are extremely important. As of last week, I had continued to recommend the business to more than 4 coworkers and friends and even did so on social media in local Facebook groups as I genuinely loved the work by some of the nail techs as lees nails. Needless to say, I will no longer do so. It's sad and surprising to see the owner herself responding this way to negative feedback considering I've been coming to the business for almost a year biweekly, spending almost $60 each visit. If zero stars were possible that would be my rating, because the lack of professionalism shown by the owner herself is quite shocking.
