Biddeford Maine, seems like this place should be in the old port, this place isn't your normal sex on the beach jack and coke dump, drinks are immaculate and brings your mouth on a vacation, great place and the inside is like a trip to the 1920s, great place for a martini 10/10

Such a cute little find in Cape Porpoise…read more We used to love Pier 77 and it's been years since we've been back down because they closed. The online presence and menu for Casa Seventy Seven has always been a bit underwhelming from a web-visitor point of view which kept us away. Well we finally made our way down and I'm glad we did! On a whim we thought we'd try the big sister upstairs, Ultramar, however you really do need a reservation. No worries, they said, check out downstairs. It's funny how when you're hungry and sitting, the menu looks a lot more agreeable! We both got clam chowders to start and they're definitely not your traditional New England Clam Chowder. They had a lighter, less cream based broth and it was really full of clams, potatoes, a bit of corn maybe, something crunchy. Also it came out hot. Like hot-hot. It was legit good. Like 9/10. We also sampled the Hamburger and the Caesar Salad. Both were great! Tones of flavor. Not too heavy. Caesar salad had some yummy fresh anchovies. I will say that the salad did look a bit tossed together and it could have been a prepared with a bit more care but the flavor was still great. I'd definitely come back to enjoy some sunshine and fried seafood on the cute patio, watching the professional fisherman do their thing.

My buddy and I had shrimp po boy sandwiches. They were awesome and seemed to be made with local shrimp. My wife had a salad with grilled shrimp that she really liked. We had sides of perfectly cooked onion strings and french fries. It's hard to put into words, but the quality of the cooking and presentation were excellent. I'm sure it is the influence of Ultramar, its more formal sister restaurant. Would be happy to go back.

The menu experience was smaller/limited options but offered "greatest hits" so that you didn't miss out on the overall experience. With seats right up at the counter and in perfect view of the kitchen, the team whipped out a coursed/well-timed menu. We enjoyed the chickpea fries, spread + breads, moroccan carrots, falafel, halloumi and to top it all off, the lamb ribs. It was so aggressive in the best way possible. The cocktail menu is fun, inventive and pairs well with most of the dishes. Their NA drinks were thankfully, not boring either. The only drawback for me here is the counter-top/high-top dining experience is the only available seating option unless you're participating in the upstairs private area. The restaurant is clearly very sleek and modern, but I felt like it took away from the experience of making this particularly special. Would recommend this restaurant for 2 people - hard to enjoy with a larger group!

One of our nights we didn't have solid dinner plans nor were we super hungry, so we decided to head downstairs for a drink and some snacky snacks. The Inkwell serves as a coffee bar in the mornings and a cocktail lounge/small plates eatery in the evenings. There are a number of booths, couches, and tables which are contiguous with the general seating area in the lobby, so it doesn't really have its own space per se but it still works. I infer that most of their food comes from Union, which is located in the hotel (I dined at Union too and noticed some of the small plates at The Inkwell were listed as apps on Union's menu). Their evening menu has a nice variety of drinks and small plates, as well as a good wine and beer list. I had two cocktails - the Downtown Honey and the Ginger Sunrise. Both were great - smooth with bold flavor. We also ordered a couple of small plates: the cheese and charcuterie and the goat cheese arancini. These were both pretty good - the charcuterie was a little sloppy I'll be honest, but since this was more of a lounge setting it didn't bother me. The arancini were good, the goat cheese taste was subtle but they had a great mouthfeel. Service was great, the bartender was on point and super friendly. Overall, The Inkwell was great. I wouldn't say it was a destination spot in Portland, but if you're staying in The Press or are looking for some good cocktails this is a sure place.

We were really excited to try this spot out and chow down on a bunch of meat. We came in at 5pm and waited to be seated. The host said table for 4? I said yes. He said okay and was about to guide us but then I said oh and 2 babies. His reaction, ohhhh I don't we can accommodate your party here, sorry. I was caught off guard since I've never been to a restaurant that turned people away. I'm assuming kids/babies aren't welcomed here? There were plenty of large tables available in the front where the host stand was. I could count 4 tables on my way in, 1 or 2 of them larger tables. We were open to the grill tops or regular tables but he didn't ask us. I guess if you have kids, save the hassle and dine elsewhere. We ended up at Highrollers for the evening.

Via Vecchia was definitely worth the wait, and this was one of the most surprising restaurants during our trip. We ordered the brussel sprouts, grilled octopus, campanelle, and radiatori. The brussel sprouts was the one dish that I was most hesitant about, seeing that it was paired with a blueberry agrodolce. Not a typical combination, but this ended up being a favorite. The sweetness & tartness of the sauce worked SO well with the sprouts - it's an excellent dish. The octopus had the perfect char, and all of the flavor pairings were really cohesive. I had never heard of either of the pastas, but I loved the textures of both. The campanelle with nduja cream was delicious, but did get to be a little heavy about halfway through. Radiatori with bolognese was a classic but well executed dish. Service is attentive without being overbearing. Prices are super reasonable.

They didn't offer Parmesan and I felt our food looked different than the picture we had seen. Service was fast and kind. What did bother me was that despite the fact the place was mostly open, they sat everyone right next to, practically on top of eachother, and this definitely made things feel less intimate and more like a crappy Applebees. It was Good, I would come back, but rarely.
