I made the mistake of using this sham company for my recent move. I sold over six items with them so I got a good survey of what they're all about. Where to begin? The business is designed to lure you into thinking this will be easy and stress free compared to Craigslist. hahah. It is so much worse because their logistics are like dealing with a toddler, and you have no control over your property (if you're lucky enough, it will be picked up when they say they'll come get it, which is about 50% of the time) and then you never get what was promised to you. For all items I sold, I disclosed that there was damage and the items were in good shape but not new (scuffs, scratches, etc). For 2 out of the 6 items I sold, Apt Deco forced me to accept a discount to the sale price after I had already paid for shipping and the items had been removed and sitting in Apt Deco's warehouse for weeks on end. They said I didn't properly disclose damage even though I did. For 4 out of the 6 items, (4 separate times) I sold, only one guy was sent to pick up the item which was waaaay too big for one guy to manage. the guy was some third party contractor. He scratched and damaged the furniture in removing it from my apartment. He never showed up when he said he would and without notice would randomly call me and be like "I'm outside. Are you home now"? For the 2 out of 6 items that the AptDeco team carried out with 2 guys, one time they messed up the COI and caused a huge hassle and then put a big dent in my wall, and the other time they messed up the schedule so badly (on my moving day - so timing was critical), and I had no way of calling the company (since they have no phone and an AI bot is in charge of their customer service) and I had to pay a penalty to my movers who had to wait around for the bed to be picked up by AptDeco who came 6 HOURS LATE ON MY MOVING DAY , and I had told AptDeco I was moving and timing was sensitive. Hopefully this company will go out of business soon because they are the worst operator I have ever seen. read more

I had sort of a tumultuous first two experiences with Aptdeco, the first being the sellers fault (sofa chair listed as yellow, turned out to be pink. Listed as new, turned out to be a floor sample). The second time their delivery team showed up with an 80" couch I purchased, stood in the hall, tried to just walk it in and when that didn't work, stated it wouldn't fit. I suggested coming at a different angle, trying a different approach, but they weren't having any of it. So, after a few minutes they left, with the couch, and put it in storage, telling me I could figure it out from there. I ended up hiring a "couch surgeon" (they cut the couch into pieces and rebuild it seamlessly) who met me at my building after apt deco re-delivered it (for a second delivery fee). This guy takes one look at the couch, and says he can move it in no problem without taking it apart to do so, and he proceeds to get it in the apartment in about 45 seconds. So I'm sitting there, mad, since I just payed $300 for this guy to move my couch in, which was apartment decos job, on top of the second delivery fee ($65). Needless to say, after an extra $365 I was like what the actual fuck. The reason I'm leaving 5 stars, is because when I reached out to Aptdeco with both situations, they were professional, responsive, understanding and worked with me to fix the matter. They ended up paying me back for the second delivery fee and the non refundable $250 for the couch surgeon he requires just for showing up. Shit happens, I know there are a lot of variables when working with three different parties. The fact that they took responsibility for a mistake that wasn't theirs the first time, and was the delivery team the second time, made me feel confident that I can shop there without worrying that I will be responsible if someone else makes a mistake. Good business. read more

Apt Deco has an excellent delivery service. However, I was surprised at the charges; it felt like an UberEats type of model. You see an item you want at a great price, then you put it in your cart, and once you see the service fee and delivery fee - you question if you really want to have it. For example, I found a beautiful bedframe for $115. However, the total came up to $245 (Delivery fee: $94.00, and service fee: $36.55). Obviously, as the cost of the item increases, the fees also increase. I got a dining room table for $1000, but the final cost was $1537 after service and delivery fees. Since I am 8 months pregnant and don't have a truck or people to help move the items, I paid the extra fees because I found it to be a great service. I do think AptDeco allows you to schedule a pick-up if you have the time and equipment. The delivery people were super kind, on point, and came during the window they said they would. The quality of the furniture so far is great as well. No major stains or scratches. What you see on the app is what you get. However, be sure to google the item as well - some people are purposely over charging for used furniture. I got a new living room table for the same price as a used item that was listed on the platform. I don't think this is an error for AptDeco but an error for people who are trying to get over on people. read more

this was my first time buying re-used good and i decided to go with aptdeco because 1. craigslist has a lot of scammers 2.the price is very cheap 3.is around my area and i wont have to wait 3-4 weeks 4.i know who i am selling too also, the money back guaranteed and their policy on items. I order a sectional on friday the 14th and by Saturday i was notify the seller accepted my offer. they also asked me to choose the delivery dates which i chose Sunday (today 08/16/2015) my time frame was from 12-4 p.m. the delivery guys text me 30 minutes before getting to my apartment and they also send you a link to their app where you can track the location of the driver. the delivery guys were so courteous and even moved the couch twice; since i did not know which way would it fit best. I will not hesitate to buy from them again. every step of the process i was getting notifications via email or text. and they notified me 4 times via email of the couch coming on Sunday. i had a question concerning bedbugs because as you guys know a lot of people will try to sell their furniture even if it has bedbugs and they guaranteed me they inspect the item before delivery and if within 1 week i find something to notify them right away. well now i am going to do my own inspection of the couch and i am going to go ahead and clean it thoroughly. read more

Very responsive customer service and website was easy to navigate and easy to post items online to sell. Also, they added a professional touch to the photos I posted - which were neat. I liked the tool on the website that calculates your estimated net revenue amount, how transparent they were with commission and cost of transportation as well as the tips they offered to navigate their website and help you achieve a successful sale. What I found was most convenient was that they offered a pick up from the seller's location and delivery to the buyer's location - so that was one logistic nightmare that I was able to avoid - and they were punctual with their pickup time. They offered several options for pickup windows, sent reminders leading up to the day, and on the day of send notifications about 30 minutes prior to them arriving, as well as once they arrived. They also sent notifications while en route to keep me update on their ETA. Drivers were very professional and handled the items with proper care. The only con I would say is that their commission is rather pricey. Even though they said it ranged from like 19 - 33% depending on the category, it seemed as though they took 33% commission on all the pieces I listed on their site to sell, even pieces I priced at $50! read more

AptDeco's customer service team is fantastic. Consistent prompt replies to inquiries - courteous and professional. My family sold vintage furniture, which we've had 30+ years. AptDeco organized efficient used furniture sales; pick-up scheduling and delivery. We took pictures of items; measurements and posted to the AptDeco website. A short time later - (often same day - hours later) - a pleasant text message: "Congratulations on the sale..." - followed by an e-mail confirming the order and our profit. It is effortless. Most items sold in less than two weeks. Purchasers provided positive feedback. We selected pick-up dates and times to our convenience. The delivery team calls ahead to advise when they'll arrive - courteous and considerate. You have the option of corresponding with purchasers - while remaining anonymous - first name only and general city name location for shipping estimates. The stress of merchant processing with purchasers is removed - with AptDeco managing the payment process directly. The website design team listens to suggestions and improves the end user experience. $1,000+ in profit from our used furniture. We are completely satisfied with our AptDeco experience! I have now sold my dining table, sofa, dining chairs, dresser, and a side table with AptDeco, and the experience has been great. Yes, they take a cut of what you sell, but I wanted the furniture gone and didn't have time to monitor Craigslist or other sites myself - the ease of AptDeco is what you pay for, and it's worth it. I took pics, posted them, and AptDeco touched up the main one for each item so that it highlighted the piece. Occasionally buyers would email through AptDeco to negotiate the price - sometimes I negotiated, sometimes not. You can opt to have buyers pick up the furniture themselves, but I was selling bigger pieces, and didn't want the hassle of dealing with questions like "Do you think this would fit in the back of an SUV?", so I made it mandatory that buyers use the AptDeco delivery service. The delivery people were great. They always arrived within the delivery window (in fact, every time they were there in the first hour of the window), came in, wrapped up the piece, and were gone in 10 minutes. Prince and Joan were always polite and efficient. An amazing service. All in all, you get what you pay for. This service was worth every penny for the ease with which I sold my furniture. read more

The website is extremely clean and easy to use. The ability to message the seller directly was reassuring, as was the fact that AptDeco over see the sale and also provide excellent delivery service - our deliveryman even put the item together for us in his van without us asking which was excellent. He also contacted me when he collected the item to bring a crack (which I actually knew about) to my attention which I thought was excellent and really thorough. I was also impressed that delivery was able to be organized for the following day! Although some delivery costs can be quite high. When I placed my order, AptDeco hold my money for 24 hours until the seller confirms the sale and collection dates before returning the money to the buyer if the seller does not respond. My seller was only ably to respond at 25 hours at which point AptDeco had cancelled the sale but customer services quickly reversed this hassle-free upon contact by the seller. Overall, clearly more expensive than Craig's List but equally, far more secure way to purchase expensive items with more purchase protection. The website is easy to navigate and customer services excellent and swift as well. read more

Overall a good experience with AptDeco! I ordered a sleeper sofa on the site, and it was delivered within a couple of days. The sofa looks great and is perfect for my apartment! And being a small person, it was nice having a delivery team to take the couch upstairs for me! Without them, I probably would have been stuck with a futon. That being said, one of the delivery people did not seem to be quite strong enough to lift the couch, and because of that, the couch was slightly damaged during delivery. (Nothing serious enough to warrant a formal complaint, and it was a pretty heavy couch to be lifting up a couple of flights of stairs.) Also, the delivery team arrived over 4 hours past the delivery window. I got a text from AptDeco at the end of the delivery window saying they would be a little late, but no other communication beyond that. There was also no number I could call to get more information on when/if my couch was being delivered as the Aptdeco offices were closed for the day. I thought for a while the couch just wasn't going to show up. It did thankfully, but AptDeco needs better communication between the delivery team and customers. read more

Update to my previous review. As a buyer, I think AptDeco can be a great option due to the delivery (if you're willing to pay the delivery fee) and assembly of the items. As a seller, I do not recommend selling with AptDeco. AptDeco takes massive fees (almost 50% of my sale was taken by them and this does NOT account for delivery fee, which the buyer pays for). Products do not move nearly as quickly as advertised, and this is obviously more of a concern for a seller when you're moving out of an apartment and are therefore on a tight schedule. The movers who picked up my item forgot their tools in the truck, and one of them was pretty rude to me when I was giving him tools of mine to borrow. He also wore his mask around his chin for the majority of the appointment, and was also rude to his own colleague. The buyer who bought my item said there were damages I didn't describe and I am pretty sure these occurred during transport because I saw my item on my wood floor, unwrapped. I STRONGLY recommend using a free service like Facebook marketplace or craigslist for selling your furniture. I have had much more success on those platforms. read more

I usually don't write reviews but AptDeco has been a terrible service provider. I purchased a piece of furniture which came from the West Elm Outlet and the profile only showed stock photos and did not disclose the item was missing legs in the description it was only written in the wears and tears section which was hidden unless you expanded the section. Upon delivery we were surprised to see the product with no legs but the delivery men wouldn't allow us to refuse delivery. As such I submitted a return request and they denied it because they said they disclosed the legs were missing. I shared photos of the product on the website and then the product we received. It was complete misrepresentation of the product. I tried to email AptDeco four other times and no one has answered my emails. I also found the number and all it is is an automated message and there is never the option to talk to someone. $450 later I stuck with a non-functional piece of furniture on the floor. I used aptdeco since 2019 when they were still scaling their company - having done at least five buy and sell transactions with them. I recently started using them again on my search for a new couch. Unfortunately, the checkout process is overwhelmingly confusing, illogical and lacking in user friendliness. I was not able to see the available delivery time windows until after the full checkout process was made. After realizing that their available time windows did not meet my needs, I reached out to see if pickup would be possible. The representative, Mikayla, sent me what appeared to be a stock response saying that pickup is dependent on the owner's preference and if they declined I would be forced to purchase it anyway and accept the delivery times, and sent me a link to their "purchase agreement." In my opinion, it seems like Aptdeco has clearly forgotten who ultimately supports their success as a business and has turned into a greedy out of touch large business read more

One day, I looked around my apartment and realized that all of my furniture is made of MDF and/or particle board. Now, for around $100 (including the delivery and tip for the delivery people), I own a beautiful, vintage (1969!) side table made of real wood! I ordered an accent chair and a dining table which are to be delivered in a few days and I'm so excited! The website is easy to use (especially to filter for free delivery or 50% off delivery) and I can and have spent hours just surfing through and seeing what's available. They have furniture and decor for all price ranges. The sellers appear to be real individuals selling their used furniture which is a nice change from giving all of my money to Amazon. I had a very positive experience with AptDeco this month and will definitely be using the service again. I bought a large IKEA couch that I knew would be fairly difficult to disassemble and reassemble. I loved that AptDeco took care of the whole process and ensured the couch was in good condition upon delivery. The customer service team was quick to respond to my questions and the sale (from purchase to delivery) took only a few days. I was also able to contact the seller directly before purchasing the couch, which was a helpful feature. This company solves a lot of the problems I've had with buying second-hand furniture in the past and makes it easy to shop sustainably! There's no need to buy new furniture when you can get high-quality pieces delivered professionally by AptDeco. One thing to note - it's probably best to tip the delivery team with cash instead of online, just to ensure it goes directly to the people who served you that day. read more

We just moved here to New Jersey from overseas. My husband assignment is only for 2 years so we want to commit to buy second hand everything as we will most likely not take them back with us to Finland. But I want our furniture to be nice. Hence AptDeco. We ordered a desk and a IKEA Malm bed recently from AptDeco. I read all the reviews about Malm bed and I got really nervous about assembling it since many people said it was a bit tricky. Both me and my husband are far from handy. The Malm bed came in several small pieces. I was down for a while because I expected it to come in few big pieces for easy assembly. But I was pleasantly surprised to know the delivery team didn't just deliver, they also put the bed together for us. It was such a big relieve. Already now I am looking for other pieces of furniture from AptDeco. Next will be a media console and a bookcase. There's no way I will ever assemble a bookcase myself. read more

I have successfully sold a couple of furniture pieces (sofa and bed) on AptDeco quickly and easily. Their site is super simple to use and navigate and the team there is extremely responsive. In both cases, every step of the sale went smoothly. They arrived on the front end of the delivery window and called and texted to provide an ETA. I was paid in a timely fashion and trusted the entire transaction. It's been a fantastic service for me, and I'd highly recommend AptDeco for buying and selling furniture any day of the week! read more

My roommate & I had been looking for a new couch for a few months to no avail - lots of false starts, unanswered messages, etc. On a whim I went to check out AptDeco to see if there was anything like what we wanted and oh buddy, we hit the jackpot. I found a giant sectional, originally something like $2000, for $150. I opted to get movers for an extra $130, which was totally worth it. Kevin & his assistant were early, super professional, put together the sofa, and just generally great. The sofa's in great condition - I am so psyched on it! We definitely got lucky with the listing but I can't tell you how much I appreciate being able to just hire movers at the same time as buying the furniture - far preferable to renting a van & hauling furniture around ourselves. Anyway, we haven't been having any luck moving our old sofa on Craigslist so now I'm listing it here. Very impressed! read more

I was skeptical at first, but was getting scammers on craigslist so thought I'd list my mirror dresser, more than $500, on apt deco. The piece sold within 4 weeks. I 1. got the amount I asked for; 2. didn't have to deal with the buyer, chose delivery dates; 3. Pickup team came promptly on the chosen date, (and sent me a text message when they were on their way so I could see their progress on a map) photographed my mirror dresser, as I was concerned if something broke en-route, I'd be out of luck. They carefully wrapped my piece and were out of my place within 10 minutes....super nice guys, too. I had questions about the way the money transfers...letting my piece go before I saw the money was a bit disconcerting, but they have transferred the money to my account. They promptly answered emails -- It was a seamless operation. Now I'm looking to see what else I can sell. read more

What a complete rip-off. I tried using AptDeco because my building requires a COI and I thought it would be easier than Craigslist or Facebook. Wrong. It took two months to schedule a pick up -- with me waiting around for 5 hours for a pick up that never came, delaying my vacation. Their furniture pick up is from third party services which seem to be competing with each other, so you don't know who you are talking to -- just millions of text messages from random people. I had to contact customer service 7 times. They still haven't released my payment over 4 months later. And even though they promised to give me back an extra $50 because of all of the problems, I still haven't seen that money either. They said it would come separately from the regular payment. And, the buyer was in Tennessee and kept reaching out to me to see what was going on. read more

I live abroad and have recently rented an apartment in NYC "Purchased" a very nice sofa and bed 2 weeks ago so I would be set when I got to town. Arranged for people to meet the delivery and access the apartment, including the Couch Doctor to get the thing in the door. Both sales have fallen through and have cost me $1000's in flights and lost opportunities to purchase elsewhere. cancelled with 24 hours notice - both due to the seller taking another sale. They need to work on a better system to hold seller to account - I can't "change my mind" as a buyer - so how does it work? They have had my money for 2 weeks & confirmed purchase, yet it will take 5 days for me to be refunded. Nothing to sit on, nothing to sleep on when I arrive in NYC. Thanks for nothing AptDeco. You really let me down. Beyond upset. read more

Are you apprehensive because product photos never live up to expectations? Have you ever ordered furniture with promised 3 month delivery time but it really took 6 months? Sure, you can pick up cheap crap at IKEA on the fly but you're an adult now and you deserve quality. Welcome to Brooklyn City Furniture. We live in era where big box store chains and the likes of Amazon and Wayfair are putting independents out of business. Brooklyn City Furniture is bravely putting up a fight against this commercial crass. They are a throwback, a typical small footprint store jam packed with a well curated and eclectic mix of furniture and accessories. Still, you ask, "How are they better?" The owner of Brooklyn City Furniture is John, a casual guy who can be formal if required but hits his stride with laughter and ease, and he has a discerning eye too. He knows great art and he knows great furniture. John sources his inventory from stellar furniture makers such a Gus Modern and Foundry. Where in NYC can you go to a furniture store and the owner is there to help you? Find something you like and John might be able to sell it to you with ssshhh... our secret, a 15% discount. John isn't looking to rip you off. He sells great furniture at a great price. Wow, what a concept. Oh, it gets better. John's partner in crime, Agnes, knows all. She will help you with fabrics, pricing, and logistics. Ask John a question and Agnes hears every word. She'll even crack the whip when needed. It's a hoot to behold and worth the price of admission. Never has buying furniture been so much fun. At Brooklyn City Furniture it's John and Agnes. That's it. They are a perfect duo. One thing's for sure, you won't get this level of service at Crate & Barrel. Then came delivery day, of the beautiful Gus Modern Wallace 84" top-grain leather sofa. John and his very kind helper, Michael, showed up on the day and time they said they would. Since when does the store owner personally hand deliver their own goods? There was constant communication between John and I and he arrived in a gorgeous delivery truck... yes, it really is gorgeous. The sofa was triple bubble wrapped and taped. I was gobsmacked. My worries about the sofa being dropped on concrete or the leather being scraped on a wall, vanished. John and Michael wheeled the sofa up to my apartment, centered it along my living room wall, removed the bubble wrap and, voilà, my boring white living room turned into Versailles. I enjoyed John and Michael so much. Afterwards, we had a nice visit complete with the requisite selfies. Never was buying a piece of furniture this easy and painless. I've got a quality sofa at a great price and I made friends along the way. Stay tuned guys, I'm bringing you donuts this week so we can keep the party going. Five stars? Chh. I give Brooklyn City Furniture all the stars in the Milky Way. Thank you... oh, and the cat thanks you too!
