Some stuff is definitely a little rundown (chipped paint etc.) Big fan of the colorful wooden stools they have and the reclaimed kitchen table and benches. This store is probably the best place to find amazingly affordable Chinese reproduction and antique furniture in all of Manhattan. After desperately trying to fill up my apartment with non generic furniture I was at a stand still when I needed a cabinet for my living room. No place ( both in store or online) had what I was looking for until I went to Asian Barn! This huge store is filled with amazingly unique pieces of all sizes. You can find anything from a small wall piece to a giant wardrobe. They carry a huge assortment of styles and colors plus porcelain accent pieces. Also the do a delivery service ( sometimes it can be next day too) and before it leaves the store the owner personally fixes any paint chips and imperfections. I had a great experience at the Asian Barn! I ordered a custom piece of furniture, and it exceeded my expectations in quality and style. I was able to design the piece, customize the size, choose the wood, color etc... I would definitely recommend this place, and keep in mind just because it is "Asian furniture" doesn't mean you can mix this with existing style, it becomes very versatile. Came in here today and bought them out - trunk, end table, hallway drawer, and three monkey statues - but it was because they were having a 30% spring sale, so I couldn't resist. The owners are from Guangzhou, China and get all of their furniture imported in. These days, when most consumers don't want their stuff "Made in China" it was truly nice to hear people saying: "Wow, this stuff is actually made in China? It looks great!" Being that I'm Chinese, I couldn't help but puff out my chest a little upon hearing that. But seriously, the furniture is the real deal. Yes, it could be more traditional, in the sense that in some places in China, they actually go down and saw off the tree and hand make it as you watch. But not anymore these days. It is authentic as you can get in the States. The prices are good too, especially considering much of their furniture is re-used wood in good condition. If you do come here and decide to purchase, remember that the two owners are old fashioned Chinese - they come from a small village just outside of the major city of Guangzhou - so they will allow haggling :) But please, be reasonable. I found a piece online and they were very quick to reply (even on the weekend) and helped me with shipping to Texas. The item had some minor damage from the shipping but when I called they were very helpful and then the most amazing thing happened. Sam was coming to Texas from NY and instead of going directly to his conference first, he came through Houston and fixed the item himself. I could not be here when he came by so I left it in a courtyard. He came in and sent me pictures during the whole repair process and even a video. This was not a short detour, it took him hours but he insisted that he wanted to make sure it was fixed correctly. What service! I stumbled in here while wandering around on one of my lunchtime walks. What a treasure trove this place is, with a lot of refinished, and authentic Asian influenced furniture. I don't like my living space to be represented 100% by Crate & Barrel, and I like to mix in the occassional Budah, just in case any of my eclectic mix of friends drops by. Seriously, they have a really cool selection of Budah's in this store that is better than anything I've come across at various flea markets. They also have reasonably priced bench seats that are solid wood, and provide extra storage, with laquered wooden tops, and painted in a colorful way, usually with a lot of goldleaf trim. They have the more traditional book cases, and nice varying sizes of glass top dining room tables. They have a very deep showroom that has a wide variety of pieces. The proprietor said they deliver to Brooklyn, so I'll be headed back after I take some measurements. This review is more for the quality and diversity of furniture stock, as compared to a traditional big box store. read more

I bought two Hallway Zen Cabinets for my foyer, and they look gorgeous! The proportions and black lacquer finish are so classy. Plus they provide some excellent storage space. Shopping here is a pleasure. It's a family-owned business, and Sam is super helpful and very nice. He even brought items up from his basement storage so I could pick the one I wanted. I'm an architect and a fan! For me this is the best traditional Chinese furniture store in Manhattan. Gorgeous furniture and accessories at an affordable price. Sam is also extremely friendly and reliable. I found exactly what I was searching for for years and could not find anywhere at affordable prices - an entryway Ching-style armoire in black. Sam gave me a good deal and delivered it the next day to my door for a small fee. If you're looking for Chinese traditional furniture and accessories - this is the place to go in NY. Chinese antique and reproduction and new production furniture. They have quite a bit of gaudy Chinese stuff, but a decent amount of standard furniture. They are a little higher than better priced furniture places, but they also appear to have good quality furniture. They run their own factory in China, so the salesman said. read more

This place is AWESOME! Huge storeroom with gorgeous East Asian furniture (apothecary tables, deep red and blue tables, and giant wooden ornate doors/bedframes). I went in thinking this would be overpriced, but I was blown away by the prices. On top of the regular price, the lady in charge gave me a great discount. Shipping to my 4th floor walkup was only $50 and the store was suuuper flexible about delivering the day/time I wanted and was very communicative over the phone and letting me know when they left the store and when they'd be at my bldg. They have a niceselection of Asian furniture. A great feature here is that they will design and make real wood furniture customized exactly to your specifications, in various colors, and at reasonable prices. Sam, one of the owners, actually drew a coffee table design right in the store. They can have the orders made in their factory in China and brought back here in less than 3 months. This place is really good for NYC studios (I live in one.) Also, all furniture can be made with recycled wood as well, for a slightly higher cost. The owners are very accomodating and honest. I bought a piece of furniture and put half down and picked it up the next month when I paid the other half. They have old-fashioned and small-town personalities - they desire to please. read more

While I was looking around and showed interest in a few pieces of furniture, I was convinced to do a special order so that I would get exactly what I was looking for. After agreeing and paying half the cost for a deposit, I was then told that the piece that I ordered wouldn't be done until another 2 months later. I asked to cancel the order since I did not know it would take that long, but was told that it was too late to cancel. Not sure how that could be true since I placed the order 5 minutes ago. Regardless, I walked out having a receipt and thinking my special order pantry would be delivered in late august. Beginning of September I realized I never heard from the store as to when my pantry would be delivered. When I called, the lady said that it's not done yet and she ll call me when it's finished. Months went by. Today I just received a call saying it is there. By now it is mid December (I ordered the pantry beginning of July) and at this point I do not have the other half of the money owed for the pantry. When talking to the lady on the phone she mentioned another customer has interest in the pantry and I was excited thinking they could buy it and I will get my half of the money back. Not the case. She claims that they can't do that and they can only sell mine to the new customer and have another one ordered for me in February. I'm beyond disappointed with this place and wish I would have spent my money elsewhere. I highly suggest never placing a special order with them. read more

My wife and I went in looking for an armoire, found exactly what we were looking for, paid what we had budgeted, and arranged for delivery, all within 30 minutes of arriving. I was looking for a closet for all my kitchen appliances also big plates and bowels for so long. I finally found it at Asian Barn. I thought I only get in to buy a kitchen cabinet. But it end up I spent a whole weekend in the shop and not only get my dream cabinet. Also a beautiful wood painting, a ceramic Jar, a wood chair...etc. The whole shop is like a secret treasure cave that I can dig in for whole day. The kitchen cabinet only have 2 shelf but the owner Mr. Lin is so nice that he willing add one more shelf for us. He did the great job. The delivery are well packaging and everything looks so pretty and perfect. Thanks Mr. Lin!!! I'll certainly going back to get more stuff and highly recommend it!!! read more
