I was so relieved when a friend told me she found Applied Computer had moved and not closed after their fire!! I was very saddened to see their spot in Montecito empty and assumed they packed it up. I have been going to Carlo for over 18 years. I am VERY shocked to read some of the negative comments, and thought I should weigh in as a long-time, loyal customer. I have referred many, many other professionals to ACT (some even more anxiety-ridden than me). I have purchased 4 ThinkPads, and one desktop, external harddrives, power cords, etc., from ACT. Carlo (and his son) have helped me countless times when I have been in mid-crisis mode (dropped laptop on the way into court; spilled cup of coffee on laptop, hmmm...). Aren't we all sooo important when our computer breaks, and we need it NOW!!!!??? Something that may have been misinterpreted is perhaps his "engineerish" demeanor, not prone to the gift of gab and comissioned sales!! Agreed, Carlo is not overly chatty because he is BUSY working on people's lives (as we are all breathing down his neck because "I am your only important customer!!")! However, he always takes the time to give me the straight and honest answer. He is sincerely a very patient, kind and understanding person. (And you CAN get him to crack a few smiles!) He does not beat around the bush, nor talk down to you (as a lamo end-user). He makes suggestions on future things to consider w/o making you feel he is trying to sell you something you don't need. He also does not sell you more technology than you need at the moment, knowing it will never be used and taking into consideration how you use the computer. He has never done a bait and switch with the bill, ever. In fact, I have always found him to be generous with his time. Friends will purchase less expensive models on the internet, but theirs have always failed waaay before mine, and they have to import all their data and proprietary software, something ACT does for me. I actually still own all of my old laptops, and have only upgraded due to technology demands, not the blue screen of death. I have only disagreed with Carlo one time in all of our years together as tech guru/neurotic end user: I hate Norton!! The upshot: ACT is a great shop with a great reputation, and you should certainly not trust mere drive-by customers who have not developed the trusted relationship I have come to take for granted from ACT. I spilled coffee on my laptop, and was freaking out because of course, I hadn't backed up the videos on it that I was in the middle of working on for a major project. I was on a deadline to get one of them finished the next day. I had called Dell and they were very nice but told me it would be a 10 day turnaround and they had no idea if they could fix it. They sent me to Best Buy, also very nice but there was no way they were able to get me in until a day or two later. It was my extremely good luck to have noticed Applied Computer on the drive there, and from the moment I stepped in the door to the moment I picked up my laptop, I had the best experience. They were friendly, honest, they checked in with me a couple times while they had my computer over the next several hours to let me know what the status was. There is no way to guarantee you can get your computer data back with a liquid spill, but fortunately I had disconnected the power and turned it upside down immediately and allowed it to partially dry. They took the entire thing apart, cleaned it and were able to restore it. Actually the funny part is, it's working better and so much faster than before I spilled the coffee! I was SO grateful for their service, their price was extremely reasonable and they got me in that day, saving my project. Thank you so much!!! read more

The day after Christmas, my Mac Book Pro went grey.. After looking online for Mac Help, found that my problem could not be fixed by myself and decided to call for help. I took Mac to Applied In San Rafael. After looking at Mac, the owner told me clearly what problem could be and the possible cost. I agreed to have Mac inspected. I was told that they were "swamped" because of the Holidays and it could take a week to complete job. However, I received a call within hours and was told that they inspected computer and problem was a faulted hard drive. I asked that they do the repairs, but did not expect to hear from them for a week.. Received another call less than 24 hours later, saying repair was done and could pick up computer the next day. I asked if they would give me a few minutes to get to their shop, and wait for me to come in and pick Mac up. They agreed to wait for me after closing. Excellent Service, friendly people who even wait for you, and then, easy parking! what more could you ask for.. read more

I needed a new power jack for my laptop installed. After watching a YouTube instructional video on the how-tos, I decided I was willing to pay someone to do it. Honestly, I would have lost half the 2 dozen or so screws, and remove the optical what? Heard these guys were good and took the laptop by. The gentleman I dealt with (so sorry I did not get his name) was very pleasant, told me what he needed to do, and gave me an estimate of how much it would cost. I thought the estimate was very reasonable, so left it in their care to take care of the installation. When I picked up the laptop, the power cord now fits the new jack very snugly, computer fires right up, the battery charges, and the bill was exactly the the estimate given - which was a nice surprise, honestly. And the laptop looks brand new, as they cleaned out all the crumbs and dog hair. I am very pleased with these folks, and they will be the first place I talk to with any future computer problems. read more

Wonderful service and fast turnaround. Recently, my drawing tabet was damaged, and I brought it into Applied Computer to have it looked at. I was greeted by friendly, helpful staff, told very clearly what exacly would be done to the tablet, and given a reasonable price estimate. After leaving my tablet there, I was told it may take up to a week before I heard back from them. I was very pleasantly surprised, however, when I received a call later the same day telling me that it was done and ready for pickup. They allowed me to come in well after closing to pick up my tablet, which now works like a charm. If you're in the San Rafael area looking for a laptop or tablet repair, and like great customer service and sound advice, I highly recommend trying out Applied Computer. read more

ACT helped me over the phone. I accidentally shoved the SD camera card into the IMAC's super drive; the 2 slots are next to each other. I'm a computer illiterate I called the nearest computer repair store and after I explained my situation, Carlo the store owner gave me instructions over the phone how to pull out the SD card. He saved me a trip to the store and did not charge me anything; he was on the phone with me for over 20 minutes. I can't recommend this place highly enough. I'm going to take all my computers there from now on. They didn't charge me for diagnostic or repair. Some businesses are in it to make as much money as they can off the customer. Carlo really seems to care about getting you the best outcome, even if he doesn't make as much money that way. read more

I have never posted a review on Yelp, the guys at Applied Computers are amazing so I had too! I lost all of my information on two external hard drives and a desk top computer, they were able to recover all of the information!! Crazy! They also purchased a new computer for me, installed all of the software and came to my home to get it set up. I also call with PC questions all the time and they always take the time to help me out.
