Came in at 2pm, it was pretty dead. Got seated right away and waited on quickly. The waitress was very pleasant and it was very quiet inside. I got a sriracha bourbon burger which the sauce on it is great, and a perfectly cooked thick burger. The Bun for all our meals were the same and definitely could be upgraded. My daughter had a barbecue chicken sandwich which she said was a 6.9 out of 10. It was actually really good, but that bun again. My wife had a brisket pulled pork sandwich which was really good and huge but that dang bun again. They have a barbecue sauce on the table that is unbelievable, warning it has a little bite to it. Pretty close to the best barbecue sauce anywhere. Biggest downside was those pesky buns and the normal French fries are flavorless and would never get again, especially when the sweet potato fries are fantastic and the Carmel dip for them is great. Almost snuck down to a 3 star but could easily be a 5 star with a few small changes. So close to perfect on different levels. Will come back in the future to check it out again for sure. read more

One of the only restaurants in Penfield, PA, this charming BBQ restaurant is a good stop for those traveling through the area. I know that the restaurant originally started as a food truck/BBQ pit and grew into the restaurant today. I've spoken to friends and family who have eaten here before me, and they all rate the food as "pretty good!". I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and my fiance ordered a brisket sandwich. My pulled pork was pretty standard. They provided a squeeze bottle of BBQ sauce to top my pork with. My fiancé's brisket sandwich was somewhat unexpected. Instead of being thick slabs of meat, the brisket was shredded like pulled pork. There was really long strands of meat in his sandwich that he could wind around his fork like spaghetti. I'm not a BBQ expert to know if this is normal or acceptable, but it just seemed odd. Overall the BBQ taste was great. The menu didn't state that the sandwiches came with a side of potato chips, so when the waitress asked if we wanted fries or onion rings, we decided to split some. When the food arrived, I had potato chips in my basket and my fiance had 4 onion rings in his basket. Unfortunately the onion rings were EXTREMELY greasy and we chose not to eat them out of fear of an upset stomach while we were traveling. I also learned after this visit that one of the owners is also the waitress, a curly blonde woman. Our encounters with her were just...awkward. There's a sign at the front door that said Please Wait to be seated. My fiance and I waited at the door. There was only one other table seated in the entire restaurant. After an awkward amount of time, she told us to pick one of the booths (I guess we weren't allowed a table?). She handed us the menus and then awkwardly stared at us. I broke the silence by ordering a drink. Later in the meal, she came over to grab my finance's cup to refill it and just clearly stared at me until I offered up mine too. She was weird. I hope they find a real waitress soon. The two sandwiches, two Diet Pepsi, and the "shared" onion rings came to $38 including tip. The prices seemed high for the area and for BBQ. I believe a consistent theme in the other reviews, and our own experience, speaks to them needing a bit more staff to help alleviate some of the service and time challenges. The food is good here and I would say that it's worth visiting for that side, but there is only one host / server / staff member that really runs the rest of the 'ship' and if there are more than just a couple of tables it's definitely going to create a bottleneck for things. The experience wasn't bad, but it was slow. We were stopping here as a break for a road trip / move to another state, and we weren't in a rush, but this was a time suck for sure. It's a cute place that seems to have been redone in the recent past and they have some fun decor. The tables were spacious and the food portions were good. I would say that it's a good spot that just needs one more staff person to really make things smooth / streamlined. Recently while attending the hundred mile yard sale we found ourselves in Penfield which was The Unofficial beginning of the yard sale route. It was lunch time and I honestly thought that more yard sale participants would offer food but they didn't. I asked the local where they recommended to dine and they said the only place to dine figuratively and literally was Applewood barbecue which was located right on the Main Street. It was a little after lunch when we arrived and there was a few other yard sale patrons inside. The inside was clean and decorated a little rustically typical of a barbecue joint. Our waitress was an older woman and I wouldn't say her service was the fastest but she did get our orders right. The menu had a variety of barbecue related meats done on salads wraps meals sandwiches etc period I chose mine over fries which were loaded with other toppings and hubby opted for a sandwich . Both of our meals were generously sized, tasty and reasonably priced. I would definitely eat there again. However I don't know what was going on the day of our visit but there was a lot of flies buzzing around our food landing on us landing on our table to the point that it was quite annoying. Hence the four stars instead of five. They should really invest in some fly traps. read more

Normally brisket is our first choice but the pork was some of the best pork to meet my tounge. Sauce was perfect. There was so much meat on our plates we did not even taste the ribs. We found this place listed on Google as a nearby restaurant but there wasn't a page for it on Yelp! Well, after going there, I decided to make one! Uniformly, the food was delicious. We started with the loaded fries with beef brisket. The fries appear to be freshly cut there and are absolutely delicious. The brisket was equally fantastic. My entrée was the pulled pork sandwich. It was outstanding. I also got to try the sausage sandwich with pork on it. Also great! Can't recommend this place enough if you're in the area! read more

if I could give it 0 stars I absolutely would. owner/waiter/cook was extremely rude . Grill wasn't working . . waitress said we could order pizzas , but when owner took our order we were told he couldn't do pizzas and fought with us over the fact the waitress said we could. he left during our order to take another order .. we then asked for just a plain salad without protein and he told us we could get a brisket salad but he isn't doing specialty orders . we then asked for the check for the drinks and he threw up his hands and said they were on the house goodbye. will never go back . will never recommend. horrible service . read more

Got there an hour before closing so not horribly shocked that they were out of brisket. Got the ribs Instead. They were terrible. No bark, no smoke ring and had a very off-putting dehydrated onion taste. The silver skin had not been removed so of course they were tough but the biggest issue was that they were gray almost as if they had been boiled. The staff was decent and the sides were passable. Our waiter, which was the owner and the cook this day, was extremely rude. He wasn't using the grill (at a restaurant that sells BBQ food), they were out of fish, and he said he "didn't have time for special orders" when my mom simply asked for a regular salad and a side of fries for my dad (after my dad asked for a pizza and we were told that they haven't sold pizza for 6 months). We considered leaving, but decided to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. He became even more annoyed with our party, so we asked for the check to pay for our drinks at least and he said, "nope they're on the house goodbye." Will never try this place again. read more

This is one of my favorite BBQ places to date! The waitress, Amber, was so patient and kind to my children which is always a great start to my dining experience. Great portions We have mixed feelings about what we had here. The nachos were odd to say the least. Tons of brisket on the nachos, but it was 10" long stringy pieces, slices of tomatoes. Hard to take a fork and knife to your nachos so you can eat them. Flavor was good though. Ribs had a glaze to them that I thought had an odd spice to it, but my husband really enjoyed them. The chicken was a bit dry, but the flavor was good. Pork was delicious. Fresh cut fries were perfectly cooked. They use dry rubs basically and you can add their homemade sauce if you want- it's pretty 'warm' not hot, but you can feel it. We chose a high top outside. Service was good. Waitress was new. Unsure about alcoholic drink options. No big deal. Dinners were delivered. Tacos and salad were delicious according to "the boss." My sampler with coleslaw and baked beans was marginal. Coleslaw was the hit l. Perfect! Baked beans were canned. Chicken and ribs were over done. Maybe even from yesterday. We were there for Father's Day. Our server seated us and didn't come back for drinks for 10 minutes. They were out of a lot which it was a holiday so we understood. We ordered the nachos as an appetizer and our meals. We waited over an hour and the app came with the meals. I heard he server say they wee out of chicken to the table beside us but figured we got our order in on time. When she brought the meals she told my inlaws they were out and needed to get something else when she should have mentioned it when they ordered or shortly after, not when the meals came out. The chicken on my salad was all grizzle and uneatable. Our server never came to check on us rather avoided us ( we heard her comment to the other server) we were there for close to 3 hours with a very disappointing meal we practically didn't eat because it was too bad and we waited so long.
