Had a leak in the basement ceiling and called them on a Saturday, telling them that it wasn't an emergency and they could come out during regular house the following week. Set up an appointment the following Monday afternoon - I told them I couldn't be there but there would be an adult at the house. They said that someone had to be there that could authorize the amount of the bill...I told them that if it was going to go over $500 then they needed to not do the work and give me a call. They called me on Monday (while I am at work - really hard to talk on the phone as I had to step out during a meeting) and said it would be $490...$10 less than the upper limit I had given them - suspicious...you bet! Since I didn't have any alternative, I told them to go ahead and to leave an invoice with my (adult) daughter. When I got home, there was no invoice. I asked my daughter where it was, she said they would email it to me. I waited a few days but did not receive an email from them...so I called and asked them for an invoice. What they sent was basically an "one-liner" that didn't break down the amount charged (no hourly rate, no parts cost, no visit cost, no taxes...nothing)! So I asked them for a more detailed invoice...and they said they would have someone call me about it. I waited again for a couple of days...and nothing (after calling them again the following day). They finally called me the following Friday and I again asked them for more details on the invoice...the response was that "this is not how we do our invoices"...so I just went ahead and paid it. But I DO NOT recommend using these guys. Overpriced, in my opinion, and shady in their dealings. Would have been one star, but they did fix the leak...so there is that. read more

The receptionists, schedulers, front office are very professional, friendly and customer service oriented. The entire company is professional. My gripe is that they seem to be more of SALES people than actual technicians. One bad experience included a plumber who was cussing and griping the entire time. He was haphazard and I actually witnessed him SAW through one of our copper pipes. The plumber's mistake caused a literal and figurative mess. It was complicated to get the repairs done and reimbursement. The straw that broke the camel's back was a few years back when the A/C technicians refused to work on our unit due to some mold and instead wanted to sell us a new unit. We found a new HVAC guy who took about 10 mins to correct the mold issue and has serviced our unit since then for 2+ years. It works perfectly. The most recent plumber did NOT fix the problem when he came. Instead he tried to place blame on other issues in our house. After we could prove the problem, he came back. In the meantime, he kept trying to sell us a new piece of equipment totally unrelated to the actual equipment that broke. I like them because they are professional, neat, polite, prompt and friendly to deal with. But their "slickness" and emphasis on SALES totally overrides any good work they may do. IMO, look elsewhere. Look for a SMALL company without so much overhead and red tape. They're too big for their britches. read more

I had them give me an estimate on installing a new heat pump. The technician wrote out an estimate and left it with me to consider. He told me I was getting a great deal. I called the factory to ask about the availability of parts in case it needed maintenance. The response was surprise. "That's an obsolete unit," I was told. My guess is the A-C "technician" had a buddy with an unsold unit in his shop that was gathering dust. Needless to say, end of conversation. read more

I was looking for an honest trustworthy plumbing company and I chose Appleton Campbell instead. I was having issues with my water heater accumulating water in the drip pan. I figured out it was the water expansion because of YouTube and my warranty company. I called Appleton Campbell on a recommendation from a neighbor. I spoke to the receptionist and told her that I needed help with my water expansion temp gauge. She was very friendly and informed me that they have a special going for $29 for a service call fee. We made the appointment for the next day for 1230. The representative actually came about an hour early which was a plus. He spent a short time downstairs (maybe 2 minutes) before he informed us that our water heater has a slow leak and it will need to be replaced. He stated that he would write out a couple of repair options for us. The first option--pay $250 annually for 6 years for a maintenance program. I told him we are not planning to be in this home that long. So he went with the second option which was a brand new water heater for $2900 which comes with a 6 year warranty. At this point I was confused because 1. My problem should not cost more than $100 and that's being nice 2. my water heater is 3 years old and has a 10 year warranty. I then informed him that I called for the expansion and asked if he checked that. He answered no. Yes he admitted he didn't even check what I called the company for in the first place. I asked if he could check that first. Well guess what? The pressure was 90 psi and it is suppose to be 60 psi. After he fixed that he STILL proceeded to sell us on a new water heater, which in his words "we will need sooner or later". We WILL need it, but not TODAY. So he left out again to "ask his boss" what he can do for us. He comes back with $1500 to help with replacing the water heater under our warranty. We told him no and he went on about his way. If you are wondering about our slow leak. A week later and the pan is STILL BONE dry! All we needed was the temp gauge to be adjusted not the $248 maintenance program, not the $2900 new water heater and definitely not the $1500 warranty work. Needless to say we will not trust Appleton Campbell or that neighbor again. read more

From start to finish we had a wonderful experience with Appleton Campbell installing a new HVAC system. Huge kudos to Justin and Nicolas who were the epitome of professional. These men were respectful of our home, our time, and making sure to get the job done to high standards. Justin demonstrated a lot of knowledge in his profession and could answer any questions we had. Truly a great experience with these guys. read more

Worst ever. Avoid them like the plague. I would give them less than 1 star if I could. I needed help with plumbing and electrical repairs. The electrician cancelled the appointment at the time of arrival and said they had to attend another client of theirs (read bigger opportunity). By this time I had waited one week for this appointment. With the plumber, he arrived as promised but gave me a shock with a $1500 quote to replace flaps on my toilet flushes which now other plumbers have said they can do for less than $250. I regret calling this completely unprofessional business and hope others do not make the mistake of calling them for anything. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! I have been dealing with contractors for over 20 years and even built my own house and have never--NEVER--written a negative review. The people are SCAMMERS! They refuse any type of even basic itemization (simply material and labor) and had me sign a pad with no information on the verbal agreement saying I would get an emailed copy. Nope. Nothing. Then they broke wires that worked prior to their arrival (admitted ON CAMERA) and NOW they want to send an invoice that is sky-high beyond what is expected. Run. Run away and tell everyone you know. Let my horrible experience save you. You are welcome. read more

I knew my heating and a/c unit, was very old and had passed it's expiration date by about 7 years at least....so I wasn't surprised in August when my a/c cut out. I figured that it's the end of summer and the heat works, so I'll just save money now and get it looked at in the Spring. Last week when we got the 4 inches of snow and ice my heating unit finally died. Ugh... It was soooo cold. At 10:00 AM, I called a company located in New Baltimore next to Spitony's... Lady was rude and stated a high rate to have someone even come look at it. No ETA. I called again at 12:30 PM. She was rude and told me he would be here shortly. I called at 3:00 PM. She said again he'll be here shortly.. So before I hung up, I told her to cancel my request. Ridiculous. - I called Appleton Campbel at 3:15 PM. The lady on the phone was so nice. She said she'll have someone at my house in 30 min. There was a knock on my door 30 min later! Two guys put on their shoe covers and walked in to hear about the issues. Nicest guys! They listened and understood the issue. Spoke to me like a friend would. They showed me inside the panels of my indoor unit.... Mold, discolored wiring, wires that had tape on them so old the tape crumbled when he tried to unwrap it. It was disgusting and honestly, something that was beyond repair. The outdoor unit as well was just rundown and a peice of junk in this day and time. - When they suggested to get a full new unit instead of trying to fix it, I already knew that's what I had to do, so it wasn't like they were giving me a sales pitch. You could plainly see there was no "fix". - I Signed papers and understood the financing. Two days later, here come the techs (2) at 8:30 AM as planned, with all brand new equipment. Inside unit, outside unit, re-ran a new copper piping through my ceiling to the outside. (Old one was too thin for the pressure that was trying to run through it). Even replaced my thermostat. - They never asked for a thing. They barely spoke as they knew I was working from home....They totally knew what they were doing. They put down floor coverings and even brought their own broom and swept my floors when they were done! Never for one minute were they standing idle. Never once. - When they were finished at 2:30 PM, they gave me a tutorial. WOW!!! This sucker is huge and really nice looking! The thermostat I can work from my phone while I'm away from the house. I can even upload pictures onto it like a digital frame! LOL- That's crazy! With my new system comes of course, a great warranty as well as a Spring and Autumn system check for free this year! Appleton Campbell does not use contractors and they clean up after themselves very nicely. They delivered what I needed in a timely and very friendly and professional manner. I'm so glad I called them and cancelled the other people. Thanks Appleton Campbell! read more

The biggest scammers in the business! The repairmen are the sales people.the final time I had them at my house they wanted almost 700 dollars to replace two gfi outlets now mind the outlets are only 25.00 apiece and about ten minutes for each install. REALLY are you serious I asked him to leave and he said ok no problem without a care in the world. I now use Workman mechanical what a great company to deal with and they don't try to rob you at the end. read more

Outrageously high prices. $900 to replace a frozen pipe connection behind the drywall of a utility sink - WOW! And a $6000 estimate to replace an existing water softener system; plumber wouldn't even turn on the existing system (already hooked up) because he thought it might start leaking. But he's the plumber, right? Consistently disappointed with this company. read more

Told me $49 to look at HVAC. Tech comes and tells me it will be $127 more if he has to lift the cover. Told him no twice. 5 min later told me can't be fixed, new system 13k, and he charged me for taking off cover!! Took longer to write the estimate than look at system. $176 for no service. Had two contractors out today, replacement cost by both is $5200, 1 says he can can get it running for under $500, and the first contractor noted that the system had been turned off at the unit. Appleton Tech made sure to show me that my thermostat would not come on w/out the batteries in it (he took them out), because the system couldn't be fixed, but it was because he turned it off at the unit and took out the breaker. Tech was friendly the whole very short visit, even as he pressed for the $127 upcharge that I refused, and even as he wrote out the ticket and estimate. Truly horrible business. read more

Appleton Campbell - Bill and Estimate - Plumbing Near Me - Warrenton, Virginia

I had a really good experience with this company when they replaced my well pump in Jan, 2016. They arrived the day after I called and fixed it by 4:00 pm. They treated me with respect and were up-front with the pricing. They even told me that my well line was shorter than expected (I never would have known the difference) and discounted the cost to reflect the change in depth. I can't speak to their HVAC knowledge but would recommend them to anyone with well-water issues without hesitation. read more

Called Appleton Campbell to hook up a newly replaced gas meter to existing gas line in house following upgraded service to the neighborhood performed by Columbia Gas. My call was promptly ad professionally answered; I was given a window on Friday when the tech would arrive: 2pm-5pm. The house has a gas furnace -- all it has for heating. Getting this done soon and right was essential. I took the afternoon off work to ensure I was home before 2pm should the tech arrive early. After about 330pm and no tech, I called and was told he was running behind "lots of emergency calls" (i.e. people like me without heat). I used my short time on the phone to reconfirm that he'd be able to get this hooked up: a gas meter, black pipe work to hook up to house. I was put on hold so they could double-check and was told "yes, he'll be able to get you up and running". Long story short: he didn't show until just before 7 PM. Polite, professional, and within 2 min of looking at it said he didn't have what he'd need on the truck and would have to come back tomorrow. I ask if it's atypical and am told 'no, it's pretty standard'. ??? Then I ask how much to connect it and he plays with an ipad for about a minute and says labor would be $780 something plus the parts. The meter is about 18" from the pipe into the house. I expressed shock, he said, "That's just the cost of doing business." Maybe with Appleton Campbell. I had the job done for well less then half the cost the following day by another company who showed up when they said they would, had what they needed like they said they would, and got the job done right. Shop around. read more

My husband felt our AC wasn't working as well as it should. We happened to have their number on the fridge and went with it. The technician was early which was great. However after he came we found out that on top of the $50 call out fee they charge over $100 to just check the system. They did offer us a deal which we pay them yearly and they come out 2 a year and do a full check of whatever system which would only cost $39 for the call out and full check instead of $170 and its $228 a year. The technician was super sweet and helpful but I definitely do think they are on the pricey side. Update: They came yesterday, today AC would not kick on. Got the same sweet and helpful technician. They were very quick in coming back over and fixing the problem which if we would have known our house we would have known to flip the switch back on! read more

We had a leak in our water softener system. I called in the morning and they gave me the expectation that someone would be there late afternoon early evening on a Saturday (individual came after 8 pm). I had to keep following up throughout the day to make sure they were still coming. That is not why I am giving a low rating though as I understand things happen. Not only could they not fix it the leak, but they suggested I replace the whole system for $5000. Once the individual left I also noticed a tiny leak in the copper pipe connecting to the system which the plumber did not even notice/fix at the very least. Needless to say I called a different company and had the entire pipe replaced and the softener fixed for $400. I will say everyone I came into contact for were extremely friendly, and I know people who have had good experiences, but maybe for these types of issues go elsewhere. read more

Appleton Campbell was the most professional, skilled, friendly, and efficient HVAC company I have ever encountered. I had a 30+ year old HVAC system. Rather than throw another $1000 into it for a temporary fix, I had the whole system replaced in the middle of the hot COVID summer of 2020. The installation techs, Roger and Zach (wearing masks in my presence) shrugged off the heat, and went into the crawl space of my house and accomplished major things from installing a new oil furnace, new Carrier heat pump, ran a new oil line, installed new duct work, and ran new wires to install a new thermostat upstairs ( which turned into a more difficult task than we all expected). These are True Professionals! The total HVAC system replacement was expensive, but not out of line with an estimate I received from another company which proposed an inferior system, in my opinion. The pain of the total cost was alleviated somewhat by using Appleton Campbell's relationship with Carrier to get 3 year, 0 percent, financing. I decided to spread the cost of this major home repair over the three years, and the monthly payments are reasonable. From beginning to end, I had great professionalism and service from Appleton Campbell. It's obvious that the company takes pride in the skill and professionalism of its techs, and the friendliness and helpfulness of the individuals who answer the calls (e.g. Angela, Haley). Appleton Campbell did a great job with my HVAC, and now I am considering them for my plumbing needs. It's a first class outfit! read more

Very big job. New AC, new furnace, new duct lines, new mini split ductless in an addition. The house is cool in the 100 plus temps The dust in our house has been cut by 80%. New pressure pump as well that we didn't know was almost gone until the AC install. Highly recommend. Very Poor, rude unprofessional Technician who showed up for an appointment I had set up to install a water filtration system I had purchased from a renowned Hardware store. Technician was very argumentative and kept saying the system I purchased was not good and the reviews given by other customers that I mentioned to him, on the system were faulty. I was forced to ask him to leave as he continued to be very unprofessional and argumentative. I hope this is not the case with most of his appointments with this Company. read more

If you're looking for a scumbag, misleading, dishonest contractor, this is your guy! He missed his first appointment, did not reschedule. After a week, I asked him if he was still planning to do the work and when. He scheduled for a week later (keep in mind, his words to describe my repair was "emergency"). When he came, he did not contact REC about a power shut off and instead CUT the security lock on my REC meter. Then he followed up with messages calling names and acting childish. I would avoid him at all costs and will make sure that message is heard loud and clear! read more

This is my third experience with Appleton Campbell and it was outstanding! My first was an A/C and furnace replacement, the second was a hot water heater replacement, and last week it was a water pressure booster and shower plumbing replacement. Each job was performed with a professional demeanor and expertise that proved to me the adage "you get what you pay for..." On the latest job, Appleton Campbell discovered my condo's water supply isolation valve had failed (20 years old and was leaking). They took it upon themselves to replace the old builder's grade (plastic) valve with a quality copper valve, no charge. In fact, the plumbing work was all copper and expertly laid out (it actually looks good). Once installed and tested, I shared booster pump noise/vibration concerns and they immediately acquired and installed rubber and cork layered noise isolation pads without batting an eye...and did not charge for the extra work (since the entire unit was raised 3 inches, all of the plumbing had to be reworked to maintain a clean alignment. They did this without thinking twice and was actually happy to do it for me. This really showed me the ethos of this company. During each of my experiences, Appleton Campbell did not "nickel and dime" me; each estimate was free and they took the time to examine the intended work. I was not compensated in any way for this review; it is based solely on my personal experience with Appleton Campbell over the last 9 months, since my first job (A/C and Furnace replacement) was performed. This was an unbiased review. read more

We have used this company in the past, and thought the were expensive, but called them again ( our mistake). We` scheduled a boiler checkup for the winter season last week. Booking was easy and friendly. The technician was scheduled to arrive between 10am and 12 pm. He arrived at 12:55pm, with no call saying he would be late. He was friendly and smiling and did not offer an apology for being late. He looks around, pokes things and gives me an estimate to change the oil, change the filter, bleed the radiators and whatever to make sure the boiler is good. $100.00 job you would think...at least I did. Well, it was $49 to show up and then another $400.00 to do the work. Yes, I did not mistype...The estimate was a smidgen over $450.00! We were stunned. After a little bit of a mood change he begrudgingly offered to check the pressure and something else, that did not include changing filters, oil or radiator bleeding. He was there for not more than 30 minutes. 10 minutes working and the rest negotiating or using the restroom. That bill, including the $49 show up fee ( horse vets are cheaper!) was $313.00!! OMG, what a rip off. We paid it, but I can guarantee, that we will never, I mean NEVER, use Appleton Campbell again. I mean, seriously, am I way off base with this? It seems like a lot of money. read more

Only use this company if you don't care how much money you have to spend on repairs. They charge nearly twice as much as competitors, their servicemen seem to get a commission on business, and they have terrible customer service is there is a complaint. Recently I had a heating situation which required a replacement of a valve -- Appleton Campbell wanted to redo all my piping for about $3700! I said no, and they wanted to charge me $200 just for looking at the issue. I said no to that, too. I called another contractor and the problem was fixed for 1/10th of the cost. I will never let Appleton Campbell provide service to my property to anything ever again. They aggressively try to wring every penny out of a job by doing far more than is ever called for in the repair. I am so glad to have found L.J. Foley, who is a decent and fair contractor, that works for a pittance of the price charged by Appleton Campbell! Comment on Customer Service Rep Post: Unfortunately, the service person DID not quote anything less that a $3,700 repair. I was very clear that repiping the entire system was rather extreme when there was an issue with ONE valve. The service person was dismayed when I stated that I wanted to get a second opinion, since the system had worked fine for the last 15 years and it seemed to me that replacing a valve could not be that difficulty. The service person then told my tenant that I was REFUSING to repair the heat because I didn't want to pay for the repairs. This was 1)completely false and 2)totally inappropriate. My tenant had a complete melt down thanks the Appleton Campbell's comments. I did get a second opinion. the was nothing wrong with my pipes. L.J. Foley replaced the value and bled the system for $470. My heat works fine now. I did not need $3700 worth of repiping. I do think the service person was on commission since the only "helpful" suggestions he made were unnecessary and extremely expensive. read more

I feel so lucky to have found this company. Mr. Evans, my Salesman and Project Manager was phenomenal! He provided me with a thorough and fair estimate and he made me feel comfortable with our decision to use Appleton Campbell. He also recommended one of the best individuals I have met in a long time to take care of my duct cleaning prior to the install. (A+ duct cleaning) The installation team exceeded my expectations, they were very concerned about keeping their space clean and took a lot of pride in their work. I wouldn't have ever thought I would be comfortable leaving strangers in my home to go out for a walk or milk for my baby but I was confident with them. I can not express my happiness enough for making what I thought would be a painful and long process good for my family and I. From the word go, the people who called to schedule, the Engineer, the Technicians, everyone was top notch and invested! It is no wonder they have been in business so long. read more

We have a HVAC maintenance agreement with Appleton Campbell - no issues there. Called them for a quote to install a basic kitchen faucet and they couldn't give a price range over the phone. When they showed up they said their standard price is about $350. As a contract customer we get 15% discount so the quote was $295. Then the crew said they'd give another $50 discount. It took one man about an hour to install. I'm okay with paying more for quality service but this was very expensive. To their credit, the team was professional and showed up on time but I'm not sure they'll have my business again. Reccomend getting other quotes for more reasonable pricing. read more

I just had Appleton Campbell stop by to diagnose my A/C problem. Turns out the unit is low on Freon. So to show up, diagnose the problem and add 3 lbs of Freon, they wanted well over $500. On Friday January 18 Appleton Campbell came out to our house to snake a kitchen line where it was clogged and backing up into the sink. They pulled out a snake, took apart the lines under our sink and ran the snake. After a while, they came back and told my husband that they could not clear the clogs until the septic tank was pumped because if they tried to clear it, the clog would just come right back as it couldn't flow out. They said they would come back and snake again after the tank was pumped. They charged us $540.00 for that with the understanding they would come back and complete the job and snake the line as promised once the tank was pumped. Originally quoted $900 to snake one line (that was a discount from their $1200 rate!!!) We had the tank pumped the next day on Saturday by the same company that has done that for us for 15 years at an additional cost now of $300. Two days later on Monday, Appleton Campbell sent one plumber back to our house to complete the job and snake the line. Before he even attempted to snake the line or even took the snake out of his truck, he immediately went to the cleanout on the same line and said there was water in it and told us we had to have the tank pumped again. I explained to him that it had to be another clog or some other explanation because I watched the tank get pumped and it had been only 2 days and I know how long it takes for that tank to fill up to the working level. He then shoved the camera in the cleanout showed me display that couldn't have been bigger than 3x3 and he ran the camera as fast as he could so I was unable to even really tell what I was seeing or where he was in the line and then told me that the tank was full. He then told us our septic tank must be broken and groundwater must have filled it up. Our tank is in very good condition. There are no fractures or breaks in our tank and there was no ground water flowing back in the tank when it was pumped. We spent at least 30 minutes with this Appleton guy trying to explain to him that he needed to complete the job and snake the line as promised and the clog would clear if he did that. He refused and told us we needed the tank pumped again. I tried to explain to him that I believed behind the clog the line was empty and that once he cleared the clog, it would move. I tried to tell him that the cleanout was at much lower level then the sink (our kitchen is on the 2nd level) and water taking the path of least resistance, if the lines were backup from the sewer, it would be pouring out the cleanout since it was 1 full level lower but he wouldn't listen. He said they could not "guarantee" the snaking unless we had it pumped yet again and I explained to him over and over and over that we did pump the tank, we did everything Appleton Campbell required of us and this guy still refused to complete the job. Then after telling me that they could not guarantee the snaking unless I pumped again, he then contradicted himself and said they never guarantee snaking a line regardless of having the tank pumped or even running the camera. I told him the guy at Appleton Campbell, Mike, that I had spoken to told me that they would only guarantee the work if I pumped the tank and they ran the camera. Totally conflicting information!!! Then this guy tried to "recommend" Dominion Septic and to have them come out. He was also not very good at customer service, at one point I told him I don't understand why he wouldn't just snake the line, he said, "I know you don't understand what I'm saying" which I thought was very rude. Then he said even if he did try to snake it, it would be another full charge!!!!! They never snaked the full line the first time!!!! I told him that if he was not going to do the work and complete the job I had already paid for that I would need to contact the bank to do a chargeback and he said, "Don't threaten me." I was quite shocked by that! I wasn't being mean or rude, just explaining that they can't take $540.00 to snake a line and then refuse to do the job especially after I spent another $300 to pump the tank at their request. He finally relented and agreed to try and snake the line as originally promised. He did run his snake but only got 5 or 6 feet because he was not capable of making the turn in the line although he claimed to be very experienced at snaking lines, he was unable to make a simple turn. Then he said, "I don't know how the first crew could have gotten around that corner because they used a bigger snake." And I thought, that's because they didn't!!!! The lines were never snaked beyond 5 or 6 feet which is not where the clog was. On Tuesday, I had another company come out and they snaked the full kitchen line, under an hour and for $168, cleared 2 clogs. They had no problem getting around the turn in the pipe and line is running perfectly good now, no problems. Appleton Campbell took our money and did not do the job. read more

We moved to a family home last year and have been using Appleton Campbell since 2016. The company is outstanding. Yesterday, I was having a problem with my thermostat. They sent a technician Mr. Chris Lin who was awesome. He came over and tried to see if he could fix the problem. I would not recommend Appleton Campbell, if they do not complete their work, they will still charge full price. The technician sent to service my unit was unable to complete the job that I pre-approved. The technician still charged full price for the work. I can say ive never been so back and forth with a company in my life. I knew that my aging furnace and AC unit were on their way out being that they were 20 years old and looked like hell. I know in my past posts that I would say that AC was not welcome anymore but I completely forgot about scheduling my HSA date and they called me the morning of, so I figured what the heck, I already paid for it. Not to mention that the condenser unit outside had been acting up the day of. Davey came out for my bi-yearly HSA checkup and he was not pushy whatsoever unlike the past tech. He was aware of my past experiences and apologized. He was very understanding and polite when I told him that I was not sure of needing a new unit (even though it was on its way out). He simply showed me what he saw and how crappy a shape it was in. No sales pitch. No "this unit is unfit for your home" schmeel, just that it was in rough shape. The air conditioner was working "so so", it was very loud and emitted smoke once in awhile. He gave me prices on the install (only after I asked mind you), shook my hand and went about his day so I could go over the large purchase with my wife. My wife and I decided to take advantage of the 0% 36 month financing which we used last year to pay for the heat pump that died last year after we moved into our home. Dylan and David made it out the following Tuesday for the install. My previous unit was leaning and David was able to straighten it out with some dirt I provided after he removed the old unit. Dylan went over the furnace with me as well as the AC unit. He was the same technician (along with another tech last year, may have been David?) that installed my heat pump last year and he did a fantastic job. If you get a new hvac system, ASK FOR DYLAN AND DAVID TO INSTALL IT. These guys were machines. Now that I have two brand new units, hopefully I wont be calling on them for awhile except to schedule my HSA's! Ill now be asking for Davey from here on out! read more

I had a leaking bath tub faucet and called Appleton Campbell for fixing. A guy came and gave me an estimate of $535 ($486 for changing a new hot cartridge that I provided) + $49 initial charge). He told me it will take him approximately 15-30 minutes to do but he does not guarantee that it will stop the leak. If it still leaks then I have to replace the new faucet and I need to pay another $500+ for installation. This is a rip off and ridiculous since how can I spend more than $500 and not sure the problem is correct. I will never use Appleton Campbell again, and I need to post my comments online telling everyone not to use this company. read more

While I was out of town we had a simple problem with one of our air conditioning units. The Appleton Campbell guy tried to convince her we needed a whole new unit - inside and outside for $15000. I suspected it was simply low on coolant. Luckily my wife put me on the phone with the service tech (who is really a sales guy) and I dismissed him. I got not one, but two, units fixed for $1200 after calling another company. I've waited a month to post this to ensure that the unit didn't need something more than a boost in charge. It's still running great. No more Appleton Campbell for me. If you use them beware of the oversell. Beware! read more

10 Years after a commercial installation we are still having ramifications from the complete and utter non professional workmanship done by this company. This job was over $300K influencing a complete HVAC and Geothermal system. 10 years ago they never lived up to fixing the problem and their inexperience is still haunting us today! I would be aware before using the company!! By the way they are not the cheapest vendor out their. It is amazing that a company working on a local job would act this way...Lack of experience and caring about the job performed! Be ware! read more

For a water heater safety relief valve replacement Appleton Campbell charged me $210. The valve cost is $30 and the time to replace the valve was less than 20 minutes. They were out to the house to fix several problems that included shutting off the water and back draining the house. Therefore, transit time and house draining should not have been a factor. Their work is way over priced. During the same service, they replaced a water heater expansion tank. The parts for an expansion tanks is ~$50 and takes less than 30 minutes. Yet, they charged $179 for the service at the same time of all of the other services listed in this review that required a house visit, water isolation and house draining. Again, work that is over priced for a combined work job. During the same service, they replaced a whole house water main isolation valve replacement. The valve costs ~$60 and takes about 1.5 hours to shut the street main and drain the house. Yet, they charged $364 on top of the other jobs that required the water shut off in the house during the same visit. During the same service, they replace the house pressure reduction valve, the reason they were called in the first place. The pressure reducer had failed, causing the other problems. A pressure reducer costs ~$80 and takes about 1.5 hours to replace. Yet, they charged me $423 for the replacement that required the water shut off and drained during the same visit. I also had a home water filtration unit installed at the same time, since the house water was shut off and drained, but that proved to be a further excessive charge. All of these prices were based upon their HSA agreement prices and were still excessive charges. I would hate to experience their regular prices without the HSA. Needless to say, I will no longer be a customer of Appleton Campbell. read more

Extremely rip-off company. I need to replace a new cartridge for my Moen roman faucet ( I have to buy the parts). The technician asked for $536. Even though, the cost for this repair is too high but he said "there is no warranty that the problem is fixed". What is the logic behind this? I guess Appleton Campbell gives you a ridiculous fee so that you do not want to do it and they merely collect the dispatch fee ($49). Do not waste your time and money with Appleton Campbell. read more

I have had Appleton Campbell come out twice to my house. The first time was for a routine system check. They wanted to charge something like 250.00 to check the AC since I had two systems. I ended up paying for just one system check on the unit I had a concern about. The charge for that was around 150.00 if I remember correctly. Took them about 45 minutes to do the check and I was very happy with the technician though the price seemed a bit high. The second time I called was about a month later when the problem unit stopped working. I was pretty sure the capacitor was out but lowes and home depot do not carry that part. They charged 49.99 for the service call and verified that it was the capacitor that had gone bad. The cost to repair was around 350 dollars. This was to replace a 28.00 capacitor which would take less than 5 minutes to do. (they took the capcitor out to test it. one screw and 5 spade connectors) I asked why and was told that it was the price in the book and that was that. I also got the statement that you are paying for our expertise and the part being available on our truck as well as a warranty on the part. BTW they use a "universal capcitor" what from all I have read is not as good as the OEM part. What a rip off it is just ludicrous. They are taking advantage of the need for AC and the knowledge most homeowners do not have the ability to fix these things themselves. I mean seriously this is like going to Jiffy lube and being told that because they are a trained expert at changing oil and guarantee that the oil you use is good we charge 350.00 for an oil change. If you calculate the hourly rate based on a generous 10 minutes to replace the capacitor they are charging 1794.00 dollars an hour after doubling the cost of the capacitor and subtracting that from the price quoted. While Appleton Campbell gets this horrible review I have heard others are just as bad. I ordered two capacitors for the failed unit plus a capacitor for the other unit for a total of right around 115 dollars including next day air. Now I have a spare capacitor for each unit and spent a 1/3rd of what Appleton Campbell would have charged. Shameful! read more

Terrible. I've had it with this company. The last time I used them on my house, the technician was 3 hours late. The office could not get in touch with him and then when he arrived, he said that he hit traffic in Culpeper. Really? 3 hours worth????? Now, I am waiting at another house and the technician is 3 hours late and they can't find him. The renter took off work to let me in and the technician is no where to be found. Ridiculous. Also when these guys do show up, they use scare tactics to get you to spend more money on replacements, etc. SHADY!!! read more
