I called Cardinal out in early November to assess a leak in my shower. The guy that came out looked overwhelmed by the job and admitted he'd never seen a drain like the one in my shower. He actually had to leave and call someone to ask what to do. He came back and told me he didn't know but it was bad and I was going to need a FULL REMODEL! He warned me "it's going to be expensive!" Then he commented my outlets were weird and charged me the service fee. Fast forward to today. I had a handyman out to assess the cost to remodel the shower based off Cardinal's assessment. He looked at me and said "you got ripped off, they didn't even open up the wall". 30 minutes later he diagnosed a MINOR water leak right at the shower connector. $80 spent for Cardinal to give me a bogus answer. I was a member of Cardinal's membership program that checks my system's in spring and fall. They just came out and told me both of my furnaces were not working and I'd need to fix them. $7,700 for repairs, $8,800 to replace, and $17K to replace with a hybrid system. I called a smaller local outfit for a 2nd opinion and glad I did. Nothing wrong with upstairs furnace, just needed to adjust the gas flow. Lower furnace just needed the burners cleaned with a wire brush. Everything working fine for a $100 service call. Cardinal is predatory and set on selling. Always get a 2nd opinion! read more

I had my hvac system inspected for spring by another company and was told I was low on Freon. I was put in contact with Cardinal Heating & cooling from Trane's website and so I inquired about getting a diagnostic to confirm there was a leak and to identify where it was for $109 and I also wanted a quote for a new system in case I had to replace it. The owner Tod came out to the site and his associate hooked the meters to my A.C. unit and just said pressure and temperature readings point towards low Freon and that if I wanted a leak test it would be another $300+ to do it. He also said he didn't have any Freon to sell and that it was illegal to sell which is not entirely true. The ban is on importing or manufacturing new Freon but one can sell recycled Freon. He said he would email me a proposal by Friday morning which never happened. I got it Monday morning and it was a joke. Just a number was provided and no specs. And the price was more than 2x price quoted by next highest bidder. Honestly I felt that they didn't want my business and if so they should never have come out to do the "diagnostic" in the first place. I would have preferred to keep the $109 I wasted on their visit.I would avoid this company like the plague! read more

I have already written an initial positive review for Cardinal. A follow up was needed as I needed to replace my thermostat that came with the Trane HVAC system I had installed at our house 3 years ago. I soon found out that the original installer(Another HVAC company) had registered the wrong model of thermostat - Comfort Link 900 instead of Comfortlink 950 that was sold and installed with the system. In fact, he failed to register the thermostat all together in the original extended warranty and I had to call Trane to have it corrected and to allow the replacement of the unit to be covered in the extended warranty contract I purchased from Trane. The Trane customer service person I talked with was amongst the worst I've ever experienced (on par with Comcast for reference). Slow to understand, hostile and impolite, and worst of all inept. Even though it clearly was not my fault, she insisted I had to find the original installer who by now is out of that business and untraceable, and have him provide the installation documentation to Trane. No explanation of the absurdity of this request was acceptable to her - it was like talking to a wall. Finally she suggested I ask the regional supplier and have him locate the original document. I would have to do the paperwork for Trane, dealing with their distributor to locate a previously authorized, and now non-existent Trane dealer!!! I called Kristen from Cardinal, who immediately understood the issue and agreed to communicate with regional distributor Lyon Conklin on my behalf. Kristen had worked with them tirelessly for several days to no avail, keeping me updated by phone, until she involved the distributor's manager who together with her realized the absurdity of the situation and decided to provide a replacement unit for me and work the paper trail in the background ending my suffering the consequence of a warranted malfunctioning $9,000 HVAC system I bought and paid for from Trane merely 3 years ago. My purpose in writing this detailed review is to highlight a few important suggestions to anyone considering an HVAC system from Trane: 1. Think twice before buying from Trane - many reviewers have had similar experience dealing with their CS. They may have some good products but they don't stand behind them in a reasonable manner, and run a horrific customer service. 2. As Kristen perfectly demonstrated it is just as important to get a reliable dealer for your HVAC needs as it is to find a good brand. 3. There are still a few very dedicated and well intentioned customer service professionals such as Kristen and the Lyon Conklin executive who truly live up to their function. Kristen worked above and beyond my expectations, even though she had no obligation to do it for me, and the executive at Lyon Conklin understood I shouldn't be punished for a bureaucratic error for no fault of mine. Reading other reviews here I conclude Cardinal's owners have this attitude and implement it as integral and real part of their business. I highly recommend hiring them for any HVAC need you may have in the future: I know I certainly will. read more

Had our system replaced.....did a great job, on-time, very clean and efficient. Moved exterior system off ground and hung from side of house, very nice. Even hung out afterwards to explain how everything worked, including new thermostat. Reported next day that fan seemed to be running a lot, they came by same day and adjusted humidifier setting and now all good. Appreciate the prompt attention. read more

Had them out today for an issue with a leak in the house. Jessie was awesome and explained everything to me and then again to my landlord. The issue involved both a plumbing issue and an issue with the dishwasher. While they do not service appliances Jessie still took his time to look at the big picture and make sure everything is fixed so when the dishwasher is replaced no issues will arise with the plumbing. I would recommend this company without giving it a second thought. read more

Do not use this company- go elsewhere. I waited 4 days for a time that a technician could come look at my HVAC system (heat pump)- which in itself was fine and not the reason for my review. I just feel it's worth mentioning given my experience. After trying to turn on the air conditioning this last weekend, my thermostat indicated a system error and the filter needed replaced. I replaced it but could not get the thermostat to reset the error, so we just left the air off, used the fan in the system, and called for service. The technician arrived (John) and while inspecting the outdoor unit he shorted out wires in the unit. According to him there was a huge spark and it about knocked him on his butt (electrocution?) I was nearby and actually heard the spark. At this point, he said he shorted the system, blew a fuse and needed to go to home depot to get another one. After he replaced the fuse, he continued his work and determined my thermostat was no longer functional due to the "spark" and my condenser was bad- it wasn't pulling Freon into the system. He further explained replacement of the condenser wasn't an option because it's a "Carrier Infinity" top of the line unit and they are not authorized to deal in Carrier. They would need to replace my whole heat pump system to get it operational. First, let me be clear, my issue is not the need for a new condenser or even to replace the unit, my issue here is that they fried my thermostat. Which means I have no operational device to even use the fan on my system to circulate air (it's 90+ degrees) while I find another company who can give me estimates to replace the condenser before I just decide to replace it. I called to complain and ask what they intended to do about the thermostat they ruined. They wanted to send a second "technician", (Todd) to see what was going on- ok, fine. Well, he came and basically was dumbfounded on how to find a way out of the issue. Facial expressions say a thousand words sometimes. That's when all the excuses and questions came. First, he said changing the filter would have nothing to do with the thermostat (no kidding), then he blamed the company that service the unit before them because their work caused John to short out the wires while working? During all this discussion my contractor explained what they witnessed of John and the function of the unit before, during the visit, and now, which frustrated Todd even more. At some point, he went outside and tinkered with the unit and came back with more excuses. He even had the nerve to say maybe the contractors I have doing a renovation near the inside unit might have done something while John was outside! WHICH REALLY TICKED ME OFF. Finally, having nowhere else to go for an excuse, Todd said fixing the thermostat will not correct the issue outside anyway. So, there it is. They refused to take any accountability for the thermostat which they fried. I finally asked him to leave my property, I wasn't going to tolerate excuses and accusations of blame on other people. It was clearly their fault my thermostat is now fried. I called again to ask for the owner hoping to get somewhere on the simple issue I was raising, but low and behold, TODD IS THE OWNER. The receptionist proceeded to say they have a different story (oh I'm sure they do to cover their butts). Then she had the audacity to say they are the most reputable company in the entire state. Really? Cardinal Heating and Cooling should be ashamed of themselves. Nobody denied in this whole ordeal that they ruined my thermostat, but they will not do anything to make that right. Reputable- absolutely not. I wasn't asking for a new HVAC- only that they make right what THEY did wrong and address the thermostat. If this is how the business owner treats people- they should be shut down and put out of business. read more

Our AC broke last summer, and we had several technicians come in first. All of them told us it can not be repaired and the outside compressor must be replaced immediately if we want AC or the entire AC system should be replaced due to its age. We did not take those offers right away, because we wanted to do some research. We then looked up some HVAC brand specialists in order to find good companies to install new system. Cardinal Heating & Cooling is one of them with good rating. When Tod Workman, owner of Cardinal Heating & Cooling came in, my husband and I were bathing in our own sweat. Originally we just called Cardinal Heating & Cooling to give a quote about AC replacement, but Tod inspected our AC system, did some repairs and our AC started to work. I just can not believe it, and he then explained to us that the fix he did is temporary we still need to replace our AC system. But that fix can give us some weeks so that we can get quotes and compare. At that moment I was shocked (in a good way), I mean you can rarely find this kind of honesty, trustworthiness, and professionalism in this world. So with Tod's help, we did not rush into decisions and we had enough time to find a good deal. The fix worked without any problem until we got our AC replaced 3 weeks later. They were on time every time. They helped fix a very complicated HVAC issue that was related to a zone damper system and a NEST. 2 other companies were unable to figure it out. I just had my aging (20+ yo) HVAC system replaced, both the air handler and outside unit. Cardinal staff were very helpful and courteous. The technician that came on site to provide an estimate answered all of the questions I had, including adjusting the proposal to include some additional work to add an additional return duct and much improved filter access. The technicians arrived on the scheduled work day on time and got straight to work. On completion, he gave me an overview of the new system and made sure I was familiar with the thermostat configuration. When he gave me the paperwork, he made a point to helpfully remind me to ensure I registered the warranty -- I certainly wouldn't want to have missed out on that! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EXPERIENCE. Cardinal Heating and Cooling owner/estimator caused damage to our bathroom ceiling from a service visit. Cardinal Heating and Cooling made one failed attempt to inspect the damage. Never contacted to follow up. Cardinal Heating and Cooling accused my wife and I of lying about the damage without ever inspecting the damage. Cardinal Heating and Cooling spent more time replying and denying to the Dept of Consumer Affairs than it would have to just come out and inspect the damage. Cardinal Heating and Cooling owner Tod Workman instead put us on ignore hoping that we would just go away. Cardinal Heating and Cooling probably treats others this way if they did it to us over such a petty amount. You wont get great customer service from Cardinal Heating and Cooling. A very sad experience with Cardinal Heating and Cooling is what we had. read more

This company was courteous, professional, and did an absolutely wonderful job at our condo. The owner actually came out and worked on the job himself. They replaced an A/C unit for us which is located on top of the condo complex (using a crane) which could not have been easy. They went above and beyond to ensure that the parts that did not need replacing were working properly, insulated well, and were easily accessible for future maintenance. I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing HVAC service. They did excellent work and were priced fairly. read more

We've been using cardinal heating and cooling for over 15 years and they're always fast, curtious and honest!! Great company.

We discovered the air conditioner had frozen pipes while touring a rental house. We rented the property from NVRM anyway due to good location. The Cardinal repair only lasted one month before needing service again for water leak. Good filter and drain maintenance could have prevented these problems. Apparently, Tod and John along with NVRM think it is OK to let the air conditioning system fall into disrepair to take advantage of overseas homeowners. Tod even tried to blame the lack of maintenance on the three week old tenants. We recommend against both Cardinal and NVRM. read more

Last summer, in the midst of all the heat and humidity, my A/C unit stopped working. Since Cardinal Heating & Cooling advertises that they're available 24/7 I called them. It was late in the evening so I didn't think I was going to be able to get someone to come out, but Tod Workman did. He thoroughly checked my unit (indoors and outside), diagnosed the problem (something was frozen and there was a leak too), showed me in writing what it would cost to make the repairs, how long it would take to finish the repairs, explained everything to me in terms that I could understand and answered all of my questions. Tod Workman even went so far as to be so honest and tell me that his repair may only be a Band-Aid because my unit was so old and rusted (and inefficient) that I should consider replacing it with a much more efficient unit. He explained to me that my unit was the original A/C unit when my condo was built and it was no longer made. And how my energy bills year-round could be cut in half or more with a new, more energy efficient model. I couldn't afford to replace my A/C so he said that wasn't a problem because he works with the power company who would help finance the replacement of my unit. Even though I chose not replace my unit, Tod Workman was still very professional, courtesy, polite, personable and made me feel very comfortable doing business with his family owned business. I've referred co-workers and other family members to Cardinal Heating & Cooling and they too have had wonderful experiences with Cardinal Heating and Cooling. Matter of fact, my mother replaced her old A/C, furnace, hot water heater and thermostat with Cardinal Heating and Cooling. And my mother-in-law and sister-in-law have both used Cardinal Heating & Cooling and they too have had nothing but outstanding customer service from this very reliable and trustworthy family business. It feels good to support a local family business in the community, especially in these economic times, so I would encourage anyone to give Cardinal Heating & Cooling a call.
