i ordered delivery yesterday with money i received for my birthday. this food is not good, it was horrible- what a waste of 50 bucks I ordered the 8oz sirloin- it was tough, non flavor! leather would have been better. Walked in around 10:30pm for a late night snack and instead of walking into a "Neighborhood Bar" we walked into what seemed like a dance club. No shits given by the host, whatever there. Server was nice, beer was cold (so was the queso), wings not bad. But the overly loud music blaring rap songs dropping the F-bomb and talking about killing people turn this neighborhood bar in to just a hood bar. There is no way "Who Want Smoke" by Nardo Wick and "Real as it Gets" by Lil Baby are on any corporate approved playlist (Thanks Shazam for the assist). Add a bouncer to the door and some club lighting and this place would easily fit in with Deep Ellum. My friend and I could not wait to bounce out of this joint. She is incredibly friendly, personable, and just a joy to be around. She definitely is always busy considering she's bartending, making drinks for the servers, and waiting on tables around the bar, but she makes it look easy. We gave them another try tonight, Chili's was cash only, should have went to McDonald's. Only two other tables were seated, ordered two bourbon steaks, medium well, closer to medium. 30 minutes later two charred well done steaks came. The manager came over and told me how medium well has no pink, but she will take it back and have it made to medium. So I sent mine back and the wife kept hers, she was too hungry, she ate about half . 30 minutes later a very well done steak is brought back. I tell the waitress before she walks away this is cooked just as much as the last. "I'm sorry. " that's it......? So I eat my mash potatoes and left the steak. When the bill came, manager never checked back, I asked the waitress to ask her manager how much she is going to take off the bill. After explaining why waiting 30 minutes to get a second well done steak wasn't acceptable she discounted $5 and gave us a free iced tea. Dear Greg, the general manager at Applebee's in Rockwall Texas, You are a rude and unpleasant man whom is loathed by not only customers to your restaurants location but by the very staff that works there as well. It has been many years since I have felt so agitated to have to vent my frustration on a place like social media, but you sir asked for it quite literally. In my youth I did my time as a server, first at a restaurant called Souper Salad and later at Bennigans. In these years I learned the business and about things like side-work, sections and busing tables. Most importantly I learned the fundamentals of good customer service. During my time at Bennigans people would specifically request me to wait on them due to my reputation to sing, do magic, dance and entertain children with to-go box puppets while never letting a cup get half empty. You could say that I have a good knowledge about how a modern restaurant works. Today during your slowest time period, around 2:30pm I stopped in for a quick bite to eat. Being alone I sat at the bar so I could watch television and chat with the bartender. From my seat I could see that several servers were literally wiping down the walls, picture frames, decorations and under the tables. This is deep cleaning. While I understand the necessity to have a clean restaurant and am thankful that you value that kind of environment, I was dismayed to see you forcing your servers to do this work. Your servers are paid well below minimum wage and depend on the tips from patrons to make money. Taking advantage of the fact that it was slow to make them deep clean the restaurant is basically getting super cheap labor, after all you are only out $2.13 an hour for this work. The servers are forced to do this because it's the only way to get good shift assignments and retain their jobs. Listen, I understand that this is a part of the business. All servers have to so basic sidework. Cutting lemons, restocking sugar caddies, filling up salt and pepper... I have been there. But when you make employees get down on their knees to scrape gum, stand on a chair to wipe down a picture frame, or start removing decorations to clean them.. for $2.13 an hour... I have a problem with that. So I was not sure if this was some cleaning crew, (at Bennigans we hired a pro crew to come in after hours to deep clean the place) so I asked one of them if she was a server as she was near the bar. She said yes, and I could see quickly in her eyes that she was upset she was having to do this but didnt want to speak about it. I told her "I think it stinks that you have to do this, you come here to make money waiting tables not to be a $2.13 an hour cleaning service for Applebees. I know this is the way it is, but for what it's worth, I am sorry that you have to do this without being compensated. That's my opinion anyways. " Enter general manager Greg, who unpronounced to me was listening in to our conversation behind my back. "You are entitled to have your opinion, and to keep it to yourself!!!" He squinted his eyes and tilted his head at me. He then turned and walked away as if he had just dropped the mic at a improv rap battle. Only we were not at a night club, we were at an Applebees and I was a customer and Greg was the general manager. As soon as the GM was out of sight the bartender came to me and said "I am so sorry he spoke that way to you, he's like that to people". I got into a conversation with her and learned that Greg had been the general manager since November and had been terrorizing customers and staff ever since. "He's just like that... he has no filter. I have so many regulars that wont even come up here when he is working." she went on. I realize that not everyone is going to agree with me about the deep cleaning for $2.13 deal, after all this is Texas and you don't have to work anywhere if you do not wish. However I think no matter the context, a general manager eavesdropping in on a private conversation by a customer and telling them to "Keep their opinion to themselves" is extremely rude, and speaks to your character and a larger underlying problem. Greg you approached the situation totally wrong. Had you said "I am very sorry but I accidentally overheard your conversation and I would love to address your concerns" we could have had a polite discussion about it. Instead you looked me dead in the eye and told me not to open my mouth. Sorry Greg, I am going to open it, and thanks to your poor attitude a lot more people are about to be aware of how you treat guests and employees. I do not expect much from others, but common decency and courtesy should be automatic when dealing with customer service in a public setting. Your staff has it, but you do not. You're food is terrible, at least speaking about it within delivery service. I can't imagine these issues wouldn't be there if it were dine-in. Food very below average. I can understand temp difference with delivery vs dining in but that's NOT the issue. First-you absolutely DID change the Chicken Parmesan. I can understand that maybe you have had to change vendors, as it seems many restaurants have, etc.... BUT you should know how to cook it!!!! Sadly-BK's chicken parm sandwich from last year (2019) had more flavor (the new special one they did right before the Popeyes chicken sandwich crazy hoopla). I'd much rather eat that! At least I could eat through it without the crunch of the chicken-something you need to strive for, Applebee's!) and it actually had more, better flavor. The fries suck-no shocker there. Knew they would because they steam in the packaging. Thought I'd try-I was correct. The breadsticks are super hard but weirdly only on the bottom half with no discernible flavor of said stick. Actually doesn't even taste like bread. Think maybe they suffer freezer burn - Really, really bad. The boneless buffalo wings are sooo terribly overcooked, cutting one in half was an issue-hard/crunchy, the batter fell and was not sauced enough. Your ranch was...well...ranch- so that was ok-but nothing to put it on. Fettuccine that comes with Chicken Parmesan was underwhelming-no flavor, no salt. The problem with ALL of the chicken ordered is-no one knows how to cook there apparently or understands the difference in chickens. Simple training! And there should NEVER be a crunch when eating chicken by the way - UNLESS the crunch is from batter or breading!!!!! And ONLY that part. PSA-Chickens are raised differently than others. Certain chickens require different thoughts/methods when it comes to actually cooking it. Some are more muscle and require some finesse. No one there, locally or as an entire corporation probably, understands this! Ugh! I threw everything in the trash. $50 bucks spent on nothing! *Side note-I cannot believe I think BK chicken parm sandwich was miles above...‍ Sad but true! Went in for the unlimited riblets. The first ones were pretty good. Tender, tasty. The first order came with about five on the order. Ordered a second round. Got two, which is fine. Just have to order again sooner. The problem was that they were noticeably of a lesser quality. That's when I remembered that Applebees had done this in the past. I got a third order. Another two, which is fine cuz I wanted to try a different sauce. BUT they were actually worse than the second ones. I'm not suggesting that they have three grades of riblets, probably just chance in what the cook grabbed. But the definitely have the good ones for the first course and sub-par ones for follow-up orders. If I had gotten the sub-par ones in the first order, I would have sent them back. At least at this Applebees, you can switch between the riblets and chicken fingers. If you can eat chicken fingers,I would suggest getting the riblets for the first round and chicken fingers after that. I don't see how they can substitute sub-par chicken fingers. read more
