Came here 06/11/2019, at around 1130pm! My family and I we're just coming back from the Central Valley and noticed that this Applebee's closed at 2 a.m. When we walked in it was about 70% empty, but the guy that was greeting us put our name on a list and we waited for 30 minutes before we were seated. After we were seated we waited for 45 minutes before a waiter came. It wasn't until I got up to leave that I was approached by a waiter. If we weren't so hungry we probably just would have walked out, but we ordered anyway. Once the food came out it was pretty decent. We wanted to make sure to order everything at once so we don't have to deal with an absent waiter. I do have to admit it has been a while since I've been to Applebee's, I really liked their spinach dip with chips and the 8oz steak. I would have given this a one-star review however my family and I had a pretty decent dinner once it was served, and that deserves an extra star. read more

Came to eat with my family and first of all you can tell our waitress was so high, she'd talk to us so mumbly, brought my salad out and it had teryaki sauce and she said "sorry I forgot to tell you there's chocolate on it" ..... chocolate on a salad. I checked in on time and waited carside for 20 minutes without any greeting or acknowledgement. Had to call twice to get an answer. Watched the gentleman check the kitchen only to come back and pick up my order off their bench I saw him set down just a few minutes prior. No apology given, but did get "have a good night" at least. Been coming to Applebee's once a week with a friend for many years. Food was always good and service was usually excellent. Since the food industry has opened up again in Merced again (Covid) we have begun our weekly trips to Applebee's again. Over the past months, I have been told they were out of silverware, out of certain wines, and the atmosphere is different...the clientele is changing. Tonight I went there with two friends. I ordered a house Chardonnay. Waitress came back and said they were out and only had the more expensive Chardonnay. I was not offered the less expensive price. This is the second or third time this has happened to me. It feels like a slick trick to get you to spend more money. I also ordered a salad. She said they were out of breadsticks. Breadsticks are a featured item with the salads! My friend ordered the Three Cheese Penne pasta with chicken. She said the pasta was dry, almost no cheese. All these things can happen from time to time but it's getting to be a regular thing. When the waitress brought our tags, no folder to write on. Is this Applebee's going under? It feels like they are running on empty. I doubt I'll be back. I miss the old Applebee's with good food and great service. read more

Minus 1 star because they have been "sold out" of sweet potatoe fries my past 3 visits. My wife always gets the Thai shrimp salad or any steak meal and they always taste the same with the same great quality and presentation; All employees are friendly here. This place is conducive for kids. It's not conducive, however, for large groups. Yeah, the dining area is pretty small. I'd recommend this place for a party of 8 or less. They have daily specials on all their appetizers. The menu is pretty broad with good selections. Most of The employees here are helpful and friendly. Some of them are not helpful or friendly. They have curbside service which I have used twice and it's pretty effective. You will wait in your car and they bring your food to you and verify your order in front of you. I recommend this place for small groups and families with young kids. I do not recommend the Applebees in Atwater. That is another review to be discussed. read more

Dianne was our waitress, make it a priority not to let this HOT MESS of a waitress serve you. We had a To-Go order; gal approached the car did not know anything about the price just wanted our money. When asked how much the order was she giggled and said honestly "I don't even know". Came back 15mins later with HALF of the order and wanted to run off with our change because she felt entitled to a TIP. When I asked about the change back she brought me the wrong change. I went home and saw that I was missing whole meals, went back and she continued to laugh. I asked for a receipt she said it's not the customers to keep?! Not the best experience. First let me say, our server was WONDERFUL. She did her very best despite this place being short on help and busy with customers. There were literally 2 servers for the night with a super busy house. The wait time was 40 mins, but when our 40 mins were up, we were they could not seat us and we had to wait an additional 20 mins. We were eventually seated but they were definitely short on help because everything took very long to prepare. Simple appetizers such as mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders took 30 mins to be received and the chicken was cold. Our food took another amount of time to come out and my friend's salmon was cold. The plate was hot, but the food was not. The table across from us came in after us and ended up leaving bec they had more customers than servers. My group was there for over 2 1/2 hours which is pretty long for a simple dine in food spot. Unfortunately this is pretty much the only sit down type place in this small town so there aren't many other options aside from fast food places. We probably won't return when in the area, which is sparse anyways. read more

So, been coming to this Applebees for over 10 years and though it's still got some good food and staff, it's decline is obvious. Rarely enough staff, last 2 times we were here (within 1 month of time), there were several tables available but people had to wait because there weren't enough waiters. One couple had been sitting there for 30 minutes and finally left. The girl seating people had that look of "I really don't care", and most of the empty tables were still covered in dirty dishes. The table they finally took is to had smears of ketchup on the seat, which I had to clean off myself before sitting. Had my mouth all set for the ribs, which they were out of. The waitress was nice but kept forgetting basic things like our silverware and sugar. She didn't come by much and I finally realized why. She also had a station on the opposite corner of the restaurant. Again, staffing issues and not a manager in site. I honestly don't know how or current Merced restaurants are going to survive once Olive Garden and Chilis open! read more

My husband and I came here for a late lunch here last week. We figured that this was probably a safe bet and unfortunately we were wrong. The positives were that the waitress we had was nice and attentive, which is why it got 2 stars. The food, however, was very disappointing. My husband's steak was just awful- he ordered it medium and it came out charred on the outside and completely rare on the inside. This after taking a LONG time to be made. The waitress took it back and brought another one that was not as bad. My Chinese chicken salad was made with bad lettuce and was not tasty at all. Have had a pretty good experience most times I have been to this Applebee's. I like that they always add new things to the menus. This time I got the Steak and Shrimp Parmesan. Pretty good. It says that after being reviewed within 2-5 business days, I should get an email from Fandango for the tickets. 2 weeks later, nothing. Fake! All FAKE!.. it's just an excuse for Apple Bee's to start over pricing their menu. $25 for a 2" x 3" steak.... This place was nice, set of a good vibe and have great employees. Especially Garret, he didn't treat us like costumers but like people and wasn't fake and didn't say all kinds of extra stuff. The food was exactly what you'd expect from Applebee's but this review is for our waitress Claudia.... She was super sweet, attentive and friendly! Servers like Claudia deserve to be recognized and appreciated because they really do make a world of difference when dining out especially at a place like Applebee's where you are usually treated as a number and not a person. We arrived on Saturday evening and it was so packed that there was a 30 minute wait for a table, but the staff were incredibly friendly and worked quickly, but made us feel relaxed and welcome. Brittany not only found us the best deal for our meal, but she went above and beyond time and time again. It was the first time in a while that we'd been asked if we wanted dessert before being presented with the check and although we declined - due to being stuffed from a gormet meal - the thought was greatly appreciated. I used to frequent this Applebee's often it used to be such a great place to hang out eat and drink, lately it's been the same disappointing experience. I visited Applebees last night on a whim and I swore the last time I went was my last. But here I am, reminding myself why I never go. First off the smell is always the grossest smell ever when entering the bar area. I can't tell if it's what they mopped the floors with or clean table tops with but the smell is so strong and I can't quite compare the smell to anything. Maybe sewer. Sat at bar as usual ordered drinks, got them quickly but the perfect margarita was not perfect...makes me sad because I use to love getting one or two. New bartender does not have the measurements down just yet. Ordered a trio platter after a long wait and received it cold, complained asked for a fresh one and I swear they threw it in the oven to warm it brought the "new platter" out to us. Still wasn't satisfied but ate it. People just want hot fresh food folks....that's what we pay for! This very same thing happen last time we were here we had waited forever for our steak and veggies and it was cold as ice, we were so upset only we paid for our drinks and left. I gave this place another try and things have not changed. Idk if the waiters are forgetting to bring out the food once it's done, the food must sit under a warm heater and by the time it reaches your table it's cold? I just don't know what the issue is and I wish things would go back to how they were. I mean their health volitions even state the temp of food is below standards. Honestly I rarely go to Applebee's the only reason I went was for the dollaritas And let me tell you They were worth it So at participating Applebee's for the month of October margaritas are a dollar We entered and sat in the bar Our server take a long time to check on us The wanton tacos as an appetizer was well worth it We ordered our margaritas at the same time They did take a long time to get to us We had basically finished our appetizer when our margarita arrived I know the server and bartender were busy but I don't feel it was appropriate to wait that long But he margaritas and price get it an extra star I will try and go again one more time before the end of October read more

I've been to Applebees many time but only curbside to go and food has always been amazing. But this time the experience was poor and the food not great. I waited a long time for someone to come out and when they did there was two other cars that pulled up and they were helped first and left. Then when she brought out my food she argued with me about sodas that were on my ticket. When I get home my son's burger was hard and way smaller then the bun. The fries tasted like they were sitting for quite a while. He didn't eat his food so that sucked. My husband fries were the same as my sons and his burger was soggy like watery soggy for some reason. He didn't eat his either and his soda had no syrup at all super nasty. The wonton chicken tacos were not crispy and my pasta was cold. Not sure what happened this time but I spent $53.00 on food that went to the dogs. That places was packed full of people and during Covid I choose not to dine in and I just wish I had the same kind of service. I will be calling Applebees. read more

I'm not sure why but the crispy chicken strips at this location taste better than others. Very weird but a good thing for me! :-D I order the chicken cavatappi with crispy chicken - yumm. On a separate note, did anyone notice the cavatappi was moved from 2 for $20 to the 2 for $25? What the heck is going on there? Slick move Applebees. In all honesty, if the cavatappi is taken off the 2 for $25 menu altogether, I will re-evaluate whether I visit this place again. That's pretty shady but my rating is on the food, servers and location - not the marketing trickery that happens everywhere nowadays. That's a given. Location is always clean, our servers are attentive and professional. We've never had a problem here that the servers didn't fix right away. With the large tv's facing the non bar area, it's easy to watch and enjoy our meal. I appreciate that since I can't stand the bar area seats. Short version: Was left very unhappy and overcharged after our server, Allison, repeatedly made mistakes. My bill went from 95 to 79 yet I was charged for 84? Retrain that server. Came here a few weeks ago after a graduation ceremony. The server we had, Allison, was the WORST. We went out completely aware that it was going to be a busy night and as a server myself, I know how a table should be treated/served. But keep in mind, this is Merced and we had limited late night options. We were sat with no menus or silverware and when we were initially greeted, we asked for menus and were met with an annoyed "OH" from our server. She then left to "get menus" which took her 5 minutes to do. Keep in mind, we were sat near the front of the restaurant and could literally see the table that held all the menus yet she walked the opposite way. We ordered after 9pm, meaning we were getting a lot of half off appetizers. When we received the plates, not a single piece of silverware in sight. We had eventually asked for more waters for the table after getting apps yet we didn't receive them for almost 30 minutes. Even after politely reminding our server 2 separate times. I understand 5 maybe 10 minutes TOPS for water but 30? Come on now. Again, we repeatedly gave her the benefit of doubt because it was visibly busy and we aren't mean people. Eventually, our food came out and even though the wait was long, we didn't complain because we knowingly went in on a busy night. What added to the frustration was having no silverware and having to wait almost 10 minutes after getting our food to get some. The real problems started when we got the bills. We had 3 separate checks for 6 people. Keep in mind, we had 5 apps, 3 happy hour drinks, 1 regular priced drink. 1 bill was correct with the 2 for 20 whatever deal that includes one app and some drinks. The other 2 bills were incorrectly charged. 1 of the 2 bills was charged full price for a happy hour drink and full price on only one of the two appetizers for that bill. The 2nd bill (mine) was incorrectly charged for a 6th app that we did not order and full price on a happy hour drink. When we politely brought it up to the server, she started going back and forth with us about charging us full price because she took our order before 9. It made no sense because all the other apps (excluding the 2 for 20 deal app) were half off AND she didn't even take our order until almost 9:30. The first bill she corrected went from 65 dollars to 45. Now one could be understanding about that but then I got my bill back. The price went from 95 to 79. When I gave her my card, I received a receipt back for 84 dollars? Where did the 84 come from? No idea because she didn't give me the itemized receipt back. 5 dollars might not be a lot but if she's making mistakes like that with other people's money, who know what else she is doing. I had the 2 other receipts for 95 and 79 but nothing for the price my card was actually ran for.When I tried to get her attention, she walked off and repeatedly avoided our table. We waited 10 minutes for her to come back but she just kept ignoring us. I stood up and went to the front to ask for a manager. The manager ended up giving us a gift certificate for our next visit but do I really want to go back? All she had to do was fix her mistake of repeatedly overcharging us but instead she wanted to be a terrible person and ruin what was supposed to be a fun night out. 7.5/10 food 10/10 drinks 0/10 server read more
