If you've never read my very first YELP review, it was of an Applebee's that had taken their Blondie brownie dessert. For me that was an automatic 1 star. By the way . . . the best thing I've ever eaten. I did compliment the wait staff profusely . . . . But once a line has been crossed. I think I even used the word "boneheaded". Needles to say, today i got my Blondie. Wow! Salivating just writing about it. The waitress told me that at one point they too were forced by the corporate machine to deprive the American people of blondies as well. But the people stood up and said "No, not today my friend . . . not today!" and the Applebee's corporate empire realized that mistakes had been made (and hopefully some bonehead got booted). But enough on that. All is forgiven. And 5 star reviews abound. Let's just hope than lessons were learned and history never sees such dark days again. read more

My boyfriend and I were in town, the last weekend of April, to sight see, and I was taking part in Kickin it for Katy 5K. Applebee's sadly service has gone down, from what I remember in the past. Higher stars always, for still keeping on the menu there signature cocktails. Sadly, the waitress, when my boyfriend asked for a certain kind of shot, was given the higher end shot, and charged $ 8 for it. Yes, I understand, it was a Friday night, and we weren't seated at the bar, but it least inform a customer, if the shot they were receiving was either well or higher end, would have been common curiosity. My husband and I dined for lunch on 07/24/24, in Fairmont (Whitehall), WV, and we both ordered the Strawberry Balsamic Chicken Salad at $13.59 apiece. I have numerous food allergies, including gluten and poultry, and asked if the chicken could be "substituted" with salmon, which I am not allergic too. The lettuce was a little wilted and wet, but still good, and the salmon is always very good. My husband paid the bill, and we left. Later, he told me that was a $50-meal for two, and to me, that seemed over-priced. He looked at his online invoice, and did not notice when he paid it that they charged $7.99 each as a side order. I figured they would take the chicken off, add a small upgrade to the salmon, say, $2.00(?) and I would have been fine with that. But to remove the chicken and charge full price for the substitute? Most restaurants are willing to accommodate for food allergies, but I didn't feel like I was being accommodated. The food server could have told us that $7.99 would be added to each salad. If they would not have listened to my reasoning, I would have ordered the Blackened Cajun Salmon instead. Applebee's has to also realize that the economy is not only hurting them, but also hurting the customers who are on a tight budget. Needless to say, we will not be dining in Applebee's anymore. Chili's has a similar salad bowl, but without the strawberries, and they are willing to accommodate for food allergies. Our party of ten felt very welcome at Applebees. We were seated quickly and greeted by the manager. They were down one server and it was busy. He did a great job and took our order and helped a server finish bringing out our food. She said he was a great manager. We highly recommend Applebees in Fairmont! read more

It's Applebees...microwaved/reheated food in a depressing atmosphere. The servers have always been friendly though.

The food was delicious. But what REALLY stood out was the young lady that served us. Great service and staff. She didnt even laugh when i ordered my burger DONE DONE. I WILL BE BACK. read more

My server Ashley was really nice and was quick with our order and was very polite and always checked to see if we needed anything else and was very consistent on checking on our table to see if we needed anything else. Today I did my first curbside delivery to-go order, and I messed it up. I ordered ravioli and meant to hit no grilled chicken, but apparently I forgot to do so. The lady who was following up on my order and brought it to me is named Hayley. She was SO kind and respectful about my error and not only took it back to be remade but even gave me a free drink while I sat and waited. You only have so many options to have a sit down meal and drink in Fairmont. We had a funeral to go to then wanted a quick bite to eat. Honestly, the beer was good, but the food was not the best. We ordered the Blazin Texan and it was literally a burger and a bun. There wasn't much else in terms of toppings. We asked if this was standard and we were told yes that's how the burger comes. I didn't appreciate the answer but I'm not surprised. I ordered a steak and it was not cooked very well. The sides were fine and it was all hot. The service was good. I called about 10 times to place an order for pick up and they don't pick up the phone. When i got home all the steaks we order were so bloody and red when we had well done and we had gotten loaded potatoes and they didn't put bacon or anything on them. i would not recommend takeout order from the fairmont applebees. read more

I feel I must post this today was the third time I went to Applebees in Fairmont WV for Veterans Day Free Meal, every year the Manager on duty comes around to the tables and passes out a discount card for $5.00 off on next meal three years in a row the Manager finds a way to walk by us. The first year we said nothing last year I called the General Manager to make him aware of the issue, for coaching and training purposes, he thanked said he would address issues gave me a free meal, I can afford to fed my family as we are regular customers there. This year same thing the difference is this we contacted our server Who was excellent by the way he did contact Manager who did finally give him a card. I guess I issue is 3 years in a row and she did send her apology which I felt she should done that herself since she walked by our table again , I spoke with my brother -in- law who came in earlier for his meal , and found out he to was bypassed, I am beginning to wonder if that is a problem at Applebees and why people of color seem to get bypassed. read more

The waiter, who looked no older than 25, kept calling my mother "honey" as if she was his peer. My mother politely corrected him but he kept doing it citing the excuse that we were in the South & that was "just their way". As visitors from the West Coast, we found this very offensive. Employees should be trained to address customers as "Sir" or "Ma'am" if they want to use any terminology. Also, the food wasn't all that great & neither were the drinks. Usually don't write a review for a major chain, but I'm a fan of Applebees. The Chicken Fajita Rollup is one of my all time faves. I actually like this Applebee's better than the one in Bridgeport. I have better luck with their appetizers than their main dishes. I'm a fan of their boneless wings. Tonight I also got the chicken quesadilla and pretzel sticks. The last time I had the pico in the quesadilla it was super spicy so I skipped it this time. I stopped eating at Applebees more than two decades ago. Meanwhile, in this part of West Virginia nearly everything closes early and at midnight this was one of the few places that was open. We walked inside with an open mind and were interested in trying their new menu. From the beginning we know it was going to be a stretch. The host couldn't figure out where to put us, although he finally decided on seating us at one of the tables near the bar (the restaurant was half empty). I like the food here but the Managers don't care about their customers. You complain about them not only forgetting about your order but also getting the wrong food when it finally gets done and all of a sudden it's your fault!! She was very rude as well as ripped me off i ordered a drink that I had the night before and it was great black berry margarita salted rim lime and cherry the shaker made 4 cups, when she served my friend and I the same drink it wasn't salted no lime or cherry and it only made a cup and a half. Me & my boyfriend ate here a while back and we got the two for twenty. I got the 3 cheese chicken penne and he got the chicken tenders. When our food came out I didn't get my breadstick and he didn't even get his french fries that came with the meal. We asked our waitress if it came with them and she said yeah sorry I forgot. Then I got to looking at my meal and I had asked no tomatoes on it and they literally put the tomatoes on and then picked them off. I had seeds from them and juice all over the sides of the plate and my noodles. I could taste the juice from them. They are lucky I'm not allergic to tomatoes. You shouldn't just pick them off and if you do you might wanna do a better job of that. read more

Great service, great food, but from what we've heard, the manager of this joint (or the owner of this particular franchise?) is HORRIBLE to the employees. A laundry list of illegal things are going on. Except for tips, the waitstaff doesn't get paid at all (they get below waitstaff minimum wage, and it is all usurped by taxes) and they do not get regular pay stubs! NO PAY STUBS. They have no way of knowing whether or not their weekly (nonexistent) pay is even correct! They get a W2 at the end of the year, with zero profit, and then they owe MORE taxes on their nonexistent income. This is a NATIONAL CHAIN, they should have their shit together better than this! Unless it's just a problem with this franchise? In which case I hope some upper level Applebee's person reads this review and investigates the illegal goings on at this joint. Because these college students waiting tables for pennies deserve to be treated better than this. Another thing we learned, which is astounding, is that these waiters have to make up for low tips - the money has to come out of the waiter's own pocket if a customer doesn't tip whatever the manager considers to be the expected amount. Also, waitstaff are often doing double or triple duty - hosting AND waiting tables all at once - then staying late at the end of the night to clean the whole restaurant! Other Applebee's locations hire a cleaning crew. Not these guys. Apparently, they are using the college kids practically as slave labor. And they're getting away with it. This can't be legal. Where to start. Family went here on July 4th for dinner as we are staying in town overnight. Our usual place was closed (damn you!). On arrival it took about 10-15 minutes to seat us. Once seated it took approximately 20 minutes to make contact with our server. I noticed that they were running there asses off by taking orders, serving drinks and food and clearing tables. Absolutely ridiculous, no bus boys, no one dedicated to drinks. I do not blame the servers for anything that happened to us, I blame the management and owner of this franchise. We ordered everything at the same time (drinks and food) as we knew it would take some time. We finally got our drinks at the 30 minute mark and then got our salads at the 45 minute mark and our entrees at the 2 hour make. The sad thing was my food was cold and none of us enjoyed our meals. I noticed multiple tables complain to the manager with no noted compensation given. Shame on the management for try to save a buck on the backs of your employees. read more
