This evening, my roommates and I decided to go out for a nice dinner at Applebee's as a final hoorah for the end of the year. We arrived hoping for a joyful evening of conversation and enjoying the half-price appetizers. The host was very kind and welcoming when seating us. I unfortunately do not remember his name, but he was working around 10:30 p.m. and did a great job. After being seated, we waited much longer than expected for our waitress, especially considering she only appeared to be serving us and one or two other tables. During that time, we did not see her come out from the back area at all. When she finally approached us after approximately 15-20 minutes, she quickly took our order without greeting us and then left. About 10-15 minutes later, our food arrived. For that wait time, it was reasonable, and I would like to compliment the cooks because the food was very good and enjoyable. However, after bringing us the food, the waitress left again. She did not check on us throughout the meal and only spoke to us briefly once. She did not seem attentive or interested in providing good service. At the end of the meal, after we had enjoyed the food prepared well by the kitchen staff and appreciated the kindness of the host, the waitress brought us the check. When I reached to hand her my card, she said, "Please look it over first in case I messed up." While I appreciate the honesty, it was concerning that she expected an error. Unfortunately, there was a mistake. She also charged full price for my wonton tacos, even though every Applebee's promotion I have seen lists them as part of the half-price appetizer menu. The final issue was that she asked whether I had signed the receipt and tried to collect it while we were still seated at the table. I found that disrespectful, as I have never had a server ask for the receipt before I was ready to leave. Overall, the visit was enjoyable because of the food and the excellent host. However, the service from the waitress was very disappointing. We believe her name was Livy, though the receipt listed Jaylah C. I used the web portal to place the order to go. I arrived early so I went inside and sat at the bar while I waited. I appreciate that 3-4 different people stopped to ask me if I was being helped. You would have thought after the first two people the communication would have spread but they were busy. I can appreciate restaurants that follow health rules and restrictions to a tee but tonight was ridiculous. I walked in at 8:30 and was told there was a 30 wait. Why? I have no idea. There were maybe 6 tables in the whole restaurant that were full. There was an entire section that was roped off, and the bar had so many "do not sit here" signs on it it looked like a crime scene. The large TV right in front of our booth allowed my husband to dine and watch the basketball game. Applebees is not usually the first place on my list when we're thinking of dining out. However, my sister is the biggest Applebee's lover ever and when it came to the decision of her birthday dinner, we all knew Applebee's would be the spot. We came on a Sunday night around 5pm and had a party of 10 (most adults, a few kids) and our waitress was a pro. She treated us the same as if it was just a party of two and didn't forget about any of our requests or mess any of our orders up. Perfecto! My sister has a disability and can get a little loud sometimes. A few other diners gave us a few rude glances but the Applebee's manager and staff were nothing but friendly and polite. Our party got a little out of hand when it came to my sister opening her gifts (every gift required a loud scream) but they were very understanding and compassionate. This kind of service is 5* and not something that I've always experienced when dining out with her. The food was okay but I didn't really care for the honey pepper chicken. It wasn't flavorful enough in my opinion, even though the honey pepper shrimp that it came with were divine. I love their mucho drinks usually, but I stuck with water on this particular occasion. Extremely high calorie food that you get at a few bucks more than it really should be, but the 2 for 20 is as good of a deal as you can get for a place like that, honestly. Still approximately ten times better than TGI Friday's at the end of the day, but anything that involves macaroni or pasta here is going to be very chewy and very bland - most everything else is fine. Though hey you get free chips and salsa if you sit at the bar, which is always a plus in my book. Our waitress took our order and we didn't see her for 45 minutes. The rest of the staff were busy arguing over who would participate in the birthday celebration. Came here for a good dinner and it ended up not being that. Between hearing the gossip about other patrons to the staff having to take breaks because they were tired the service was terrible. Rebecca my waitress wasn't around and I was helped since they couldn't find her anywhere in the restaurant. She finally showed up and took my order and then disappeared for at least 20 min. First and foremost it's Father's Day. Clearly they didn't schedule the right amount of servers. Service was not good. Waitress wasn't rude but drinks were always empty. When we did get a refill the waitress stuck her finger in my wife's glass and left it for her to drink... our first round of drinks didn't even come to the table until after the appetizer was served. We had a stack of dirty dishes sitting in the table for about 15 minutes while multiple servers walked by without clearing it away. Food tastes fine but the service was just terrible. However, dissatisfied with the recent "Half-Off Any-Tizers" policy change. Ordering half-off apps is now required when dining in only, thus removing the option for Pick-Up. I never have anything but problems with this applebees locations. The last time I ordered the four cheese Mac, there was no cheese sauce on it, just plain noodles, not even the right kind of noodles they normally use for that dish, and a few puny pieces of chicken. Last week I ordered two burgers in the morning to be picked up later that night; one was fine and the other way overdone. Had to wait almost 25 minutes for my order after scheduled pickup time. Tonight I ordered a quesadilla burger again and this time it was not made on the right type of bread, and was very soggy and gross to eat. I run really hot and cold with our Applebee's. When the service is good it's a star and a half higher. But when the service is bad: wow. The food has consistency problems too, including forgotten and missed orders when the servers are subpar. So it's a hit or miss place and we therefore hit and miss going there. read more
