I ordered a steak from them. When it arrived it was frozen in the middle and had no flavor, at all! Seems the cook them frozen. My visit before that was a rack of ribs which was charred and inedible. We ordered ribeye steak with mashed potatoes, broccoli and sautéd mushrooms along with Macaroni and cheese with Chicken tenders on it and everything came out pretty quick, hot and tasting good. Was excited to see the ribeye steak added to the menu, as Austin is not well known for steaks. The appearance was great, but eating it, it was nothing but gristle. Could hardly cut the connecting tissue with a steak knife, it was that bad. One of the worst steaks I have had in a long time. Went here on a whim. I ordered the 6oz steak. I wanted to compare it to the steak I ordered at TGIF the other day. The steak at TGIF I could have cut with a butter knife it was so perfectly cooked. Sorry to say the Applebees steak was not even close. The Applebees steak was good. The TGIF was GREAT. My wife ordered the chicken tenders. They were hard and difficult to eat. Maybe a sign of old meat. When the food arrived mine was cool to cold. Didn't want to bother sending it back. We had to ask for silverware. Over all..very disappointed. read more

I ordered a carry out on September 14 and they left out an order of mozzarella sticks. I called and the manager said he'd mail a free appetizer certificate to replace the one I paid for. On October 25 after over a month of nothing in the mail I contacted customer service online and they said they asked the location owners to reach out as soon as possible. As of November 2 I haven't heard anything. I am in Austin for two and a half days for my annual family visit. I've been to a fantastic new Vietnamese restaurant in town called Top Noodle (501 1st St. NW) twice (5-stars!!!!), and I can see that my white-bread, meat and potatoes family wants white-mans food for this meal. Ok, I give up. The suggestion floats out there from my sweet and dear cousin.... Applebees. So, here I am. Ugh. "Can I start you with any drinks?" goes the obligatory question from our waitress. "Sure, I'll have a Stout or Porter that you have on tap, or bottle, if none on tap." "What's a stout?", was the reply. Fasten you seat-belt boys, it's going to be a bumpy ride.... No biggie. Forget the beer. My family tells me they make a great margarita. Great! I love a good margi. I am about to order one, and I ask, "are those made fresh? With fresh limes, and tripple sec, and, of course tequila?" "Yes, they are fresh... they get the powder and mix it, and it is made every day." OMG, I try clicking my heals together three times... "there's no place like home. There's no place..." Nope. That didn't work. So, no beer, and no margarita. That's okay, I'll just have a glass of hydric-acid (water), with my meal. Oh yeah, the meal. "How would you like your steak prepared for your fajitas?" Medium, please. So, when the overcooked well done steak-fajitas arrived, I cut into it, and tasted one part of a slice. Yep, tough and over-the-f**k-over-cooked. "How is everything?" Came the question within 3 minutes of the food delivery. I explained, and she looked confused like she was thinking... "don't you know that Minnesotians don't return food... the chew the hell out of it, and reply 'yeah, real good... thanks!" To Applebees credit, when the re-prepared fajitas came back, it was perfect. The guacamole, on the other hand, was returned. What the hell was I thinking? This a freak'n Applebees... A real margarita made with fresh limes? Real guacamole made with fresh avocados, limes, garlic, and cumin? Ooops, I forgot where I was. My bad. read more

Where do I start? When we first arrived, we had to wait 20 minutes just to order the food. It was an hour wait for our food and the place was dead. When we finally get our food, My steak was raw in the middle and the fries were cold. My husbands ribs were over cooked to the point where it was super chewy. it was like eating beef jerky with ketchup. They did not check on us for a hole hour. I complained to the manager and told her I was unhappy with my food and service. She said she could only take $8 off the bill. My brother was shorted $3. Please share this. read more

The food is usually pretty good - every once in a while you get a stinker. Recently we have had pretty good service (haven't had bad service for a while). Overall I would say they are a pretty good value (decent food / decent price). read more

I am not a fan of Applebee's in general but this one is really disappointing. There are not a lot of choices of places to eat in Austin which makes this frustrating. The times I have gone to this establishment I have been disappointed with the lack of quality in the food and at times the service. If I am going to pay over $10 for a meal I want it to be more than just reheated food put on a plate. :/ I avoid going here as much as possible. read more

We had eight people to celebrate my grandson's birthday. We waited one hour to get our food. My granddaughter's steak was fried to a crisp. My grandson's steak overcooked, both were ordered medium rare. My ribs were overcooked, very dried out. The waitress did her job, apologizing and brought us some chips and salsa after 50 minutes. Normally the food at Applebee's is quite good. I was planning on coming here for New Year's Eve, but not anymore. It will be a while before I return to Applebee's, maybe they will have a better cook by then. Started the evening my giving my daughter a coloring menu but no crayons. Ordered an appetizer, asked for ranch and blue cheese with it. Got blue cheese that tasted kind of like caesar... no ranch. Ordered our meal, asked for ranch again, she said she'd bring it. Never did. Got the triple hog dare ya burger, which according to the photo AND the last time I had it, was supposed to have a decent size pile of pulled pork. Couldn't find it. Couldn't get waitresses attention. Pushed button on tablet thing. Manager finally came over. At this point our drinks were also empty. Manager said the pulled pork was under the cheese. I scraped the solidifying cheese away to find a very thin slimy layer of what looked like ground chicken. That was the "pulled pork". Manager begged to bring me more pulled pork. I said no. Would have preferred he take the burger and have it made right. Continues to beg to bring more meat out. Finally said okay. He brought a small bowl of "pulled pork" which again, looked like ground chicken with green peppers in it. Couldn't even tell who our waitress was this whole time. too many of them running around, yet couldn't get the attention of any of them. Couldn't get the attention of anyone to get drinks refilled. Pushed the button for that again. Finally got drinks refilled 5 minutes before we were ready to leave. This was my last chance for this place. Every time I've been there over the last year or so, there's been something wrong with the food or the staff can't be bothered by their customers. Pathetic! Worse service ever! I was seated right away, but a waiter/waitress never came to my table. I pushed the 'call server' button on the damn contraption on the table and still waited way too long for someone to show up. The lady brought me the glass of water I wanted, and I ordered food right away, hoping to avoid another long wait. When my food came, I was appalled at the dismal, paltry portions and the presentation. I always get the riblets, and it used to be that it would come in a basket with a decent amount of food and a plate to put the bones on. Tonight, I got a puny, square, metal "cookie sheet", for lack of a better description. It was tiny and there was nowhere to put the bones, so I ended up setting them on the table, because heaven forbid anyone came to ask if I needed anything! When it came time to pay my bill, the damn contraption on the table wasn't working, so I had to wait again after pushing the 'call server' button. Thankfully, I had a gift card to use, because I would have hated having to spend my own money on such a horrible experience! Also, needless to say I did not leave a tip! If you expect customers to return, you need to get rid of the damn contraptions and get some staff/employees that know what customer service is and how to interact with/treat patrons! read more

Tables extremely sticky. 15 minutes after ordering chicken wings, we were told that there were no more bone-in wings, and so two of our party had to reorder. When the French Onion soup came it was barely warm. When my steak came, it was room temperature, as were the potatoes and the grilled vegetables. The grilled zucchini was tough and tasteless.
