Do you ever have a food that you just crave? For me it's wings. I could probably eat wings everyday and never get sick of them. I like hot wings, bbq wings, and will try most any flavor. My absolute favorites though are the Plum Barbeque Wings at Green Mill. They are so delicious and always hit the spot. I always order them with a side of the sweet potato fries and honey mustard. Green Mill has a great menu with something for everyone. In fact, when we have family up here this is usually the spot we take them. There aren't any Green Mills in Florida so it's new for them. We always get the spinach and artichoke dip. It comes with bread, but they're really good about substituting gluten free items so I always get the corn chips. The cheese curds are also great. My friend loves their Langostino Lobster & Shrimp. I think he orders this every time we go. When my sister came up on her last visit she chose the Lobster Mac 'n' Cheese and raved about it. They also make a fantastic Strawberry Daquiri Of course there's a full drink menu with several other choices, but my sister and I prefer these. What's great about Green Mill is not only can everyone find something they like, it's also nice on the pocket book. I'll start out with, the restaurant was busy. But, the only option for Mother's Day was the buffet. The staff wasn't very attentive. The food had no flavor -bland. There wasn't any pizza available for over 20 minutes. Desserts were not good either. Maybe cut down on the variety and focus on quality of the food. At $35.99 per person I expected good food. They had a walleye fest going on. My friend got the Walleye filet and I got the walleye sandwich. I never expected to Green Mill to be able to serve such fabulous walleye. They have different crusts to choose from. When I arrived at site I was warmly greeted and only had to wait a few minutes. They then brought out my food and opened both doors for me to my car. Well I can't speak on the food though it was suggested because I didn't get beyond the ordering process due to the frankly utter stupidity of the boy working as the host. I'm traveling and have my dog who obviously couldn't come inside so I ran in and asked for a menu to place a to go order. I told the guy I have other people in the car but I have a dog can I run the menu out for them to look at and I'll be right back. He said sure handed me the menu (which was just card stock with a coating by the way) when I turned to leave he stopped me and said I couldn't take the menu. I reiterated I was coming right back . We just left here and spent about an hour at this establishment. I will say, the restaurant was very clean and the music they play was nice and quiet. It was very slow today, not many people at all in the restaurant. Our food came out slow but it was worth the wait. I ordered an unsweet tea which was great, an Italian grinder which was massive but I ate over half of it because it was so good! Delicious. The French fries were just fries, salted very nicely, no complaints. Waitress was very attentive and kind. I tried a slice of my daughters pizza and it was delicious. A large group of us ate here for lunch on a random Saturday in January. The service was prompt and efficient, most of the food was great and we were able to get a table that sat all ten of us. I liked the layout, plenty of TVs and natural light, this is a great place to watch sports and have some beers with friends. I had the flat bread and a salad, both were excellent. Interstate friendly location. Not a chain I have seen before but had an familiar feel to a bigger chain. Choice of bar side or restaurant side. Music was up loud enough to notice. I've stopped at a few of this over the years during visits to Minnesota. I swear the "signature selections" section used to be feature far more than three entrees. On this particular visit, I wish things were made more clear by the restaurant itself. The Coca-Cola freestyle was featured in the drink section. Strawberry Lemonade was a choice. I ordered one, not knowing that the restaurant makes their own for considerably more ($4). The salad I ordered was quite large, enough for at least two people to share. I selected the apple and baby kale salad, which also featured pecans, craisins (I skipped these), spinach, broccoli, cabbage, red onion, Gorgonzola cheese, and apple cider vinaigrette dressing. Again, my fault for not asking, but I assumed "grilled chicken" would be what you get at Panera. Instead, the chicken came out warm. Unbreaded chicken warm on a bunch of cold vegetables isn't satisfying in my opinion. However, I loathe complaining about food quality--I've heard too many stories to think that sending a plate back is a good idea. The breaded with herbed butter was delicious, as always. I was able to add a cup of soup on per the server's recommendation. Minnesota goodness in this one--a distinctly different taste than the boil-in-bag version Iowans receive. Abbey (I think was her name) was a courteous server and checked in regularly. The MOD came by and did a table touch as well, something I don't feel enough establishments perform. However, I think corporate could do some cleanup as far as menu presentation. read more

After a weekend of camping it was time for "real food". I've ate here a couple times back but for some reason I didn't leave a review, so this review is solely for this last visit. When we first arrived we were seated right away. Server took a long time to come greet us, I'd say at least 10 minutes. Apparently she was the only server on and she was also bartending. It was Labor Day so maybe they weren't expecting people to come dine in, but they definitely weren't staffed. Server had a little bit of an attitude and was annoyed at the fact that we wanted to order food...and drinks. Anyhow, her mood lightened a little when other staff clocked in and I think she realized she needed to calm down just a little. After that the service improved. On that note, my Bloody Mary was great, the burger was juicy and the fries were cooked perfectly. Not very many options in Albert Lea, and I'm assuming this place is a hit or miss. Maybe the best thin Pizza I've had - plenty of sauce with a great zesty flavor. Beer choices were outstanding with several MN krafts on tap. I had an oatmeal cream stout and will have another if I get the chance! Wings were nearly as good as the pizza although I don't recommend the Jamaican sauce, I suggest trying one of their other sauces. Easy parking, nice booth to sit in and service very friendly and willing to work with our special order of 2 soups and burger, no fries. I tried the French onion soup of the day, and the avacodo ranch burger. I have to give Green Mill some credit here the soups were full of flavor and good as was the ranch avacodo burger, When I slowed down I really tasted all the different flavors I was very happy that I did. The food was delicious, I had a medium pizza and a sampling of Summit beers (being from out of state, it's a local variety I had never before tried, but quite enjoyed). Everything was fast, hot, fresh and tasty. No complaints The atmospherics were a little odd. I've spent quite a bit of time in places with high population densities ... this tends to result in somewhat compacted seating and a moody sparsity of lighting in most bar-supporting eating establishments. Not here. It was brightly and well lit, and there was a lot of space between tables and patrons. Whole gaggles of Waitstaff could maneuver between the tables without ever coming close to a patron. We've been customers of this Green Mill for many years. We've been generally pleased in the past. I especially appreciate the nice selection of beers. Our most recent visit was a big disappointment. We started with nachos, which we've had many times in the past because we often order deep dish pizza and it's nice to have some food quickly while it's being prepared. What we received was good, but it was not nachos. It was more like a taco salad. When we inquired about this change, we were told that they had indeed changed the dish. OK, fine, but when you make such a major change to something that's been on the menu you need to change the menu, or at least warn the customer that they're not going to get what they expect. Our main course was deep dish pizza. This was also much different from what we've gotten in the past although they claim no change. The crust used to be crisp on the bottom; it no longer is. The tomato sauce was sparse, a much thicker consistency, and had little taste - and the sauce used to be the high point of the pizza. Our standards in deep dish pizza are based on living in Chicago, and Green Mill used to meet those, but this one was a dud. My impression is that something basic has changed, but it's based on this one visit, so we'll probably give them another chance. But it's unsettling when a restaurant you thought you could count on comes up this short. read more

I've had food delivered from Green Mill in Albert Lea three times in recent weeks. The first order, including spaghetti with meatballs, was perfection. It was a generous serving and the taste was well with the price. I also ordered a desert and it too was wonderful. On my second order, I chose the Walleye sandwich with fries. They didn't wrap the sandwich separately before packing it in the plastic container and the steam left the bread soggy and the fries--all eight of them--wilted. On top of that, the fried fish was limp and tasteless. I decided to give Green Mill one more shot. My third order was one of the more expensive pasta dishes, Langostino Lobster and Shrimp. The serving size was small compared to the spaghetti. The taste was just okay. There was no parmesan cheese that I could see or taste. Definitely not worth the price, especially when paying for delivery. On the upside, the delivery drivers have all been fast and polite and that's a bonus. I hope they improve their consistency. If all orders were as good as the first, this would have been a 5 star review. But one great order out of three is just not a good record. read more

One star is NOT based on taste of the food. Food was pretty good. I had the bacon cheddar burger which was cooked to order (hand made/ real not frozen) and it was delicious. The fries were average but good. My son, had the gyro on Nan bread (Indian bread- not pita), and he liked it for not being from a spit. cons: I asked server if the gyros were "real" and from a spit... he said yes and that he's seen them cut the meat from the block of meat (making the cutting motion of traditional gyros). I said are you sure? I can't believe this place would have a gyro spit. He said yes (but he was only three days into the job). Gyros come out and are the prefab frozen ones that are tossed on the grill (which I expected)... and although they tasted good (not real gyro quality) the quantity of meat does not warrant $13+ meal. You can get fully stuffed gyros with fries and a drink for $6-10 at Greek restaurants. We asked to substitute the cucumber sauce with ranch and asked for additional cup (for me)... charged us .59 a piece (x2) and didn't mention that there would be a charge. This angers me more than anything... Server tried to upsale fries to sweet potato to my son by saying for "just a little more." $2 to upgrade. Not "a little more." Catsup is delivered in small cups... before the food arrived, I asked for extra catsup since they were small. Food was served by a different waiter and we were not checked on until we were 3/4 done... never got the catsup. He did keep the waters full. Service needs to be fixed. read more
