Arrived at 8 pm on a holiday weekend to a packed dining room - which is a great sign. Self seating and casual atmosphere. Waited about 6 minutes for a cleaned booth and to place our pizza order. Ordered a large thick crust pepperoni pizza. Did not disappoint!! Full of cheese and pepperoni. Went at lunch time and they were pretty busy with the lunch crowd. Pizza by the slice. Their pizza is amazing. We don't live in Alberta Lea but my husband was raised there. We eat it there every time we come in.

I've really tried to like this place since it's the only independent pizza place for miles. But it isn't great. I think I've ordered four times, so I have a fair sample. The crust is always burnt, thin, boring, too crispy. The cheese is too much. The mushrooms are canned. I got bacon once and it was a LOT, and in big chunks. Maybe you would like it, but it was far too much and kind of ruined the pizza. The sauce is good, not special. The price is fair and I appreciate the classic interior. The food is made fast and you could do a lot worse, but you could do a lot better in a different town read more

My first clue... I called to order a pie and the young man was not helpful and very matter of fact. I explained that I was in town for business and needed some help choosing. I asked what the diameter was the large. He said their large was 14". No other explanation or size. This gave me my first impression, but the reviews seemed positive so I continued knowing that good help was hard to find. I went into Jake's to get my order and was very surprised to see I was the only patron in the place but there were 5-7 employees in the kitchen. I chalked this up to it being Monday. The girl that rang up my order was friendly and then I took my pizza back to the hotel and dove in. The verdict...m'eh. Stopped by Jake's on the way into town and was neither surprised or disappointed. Seems to be a nice family spot, extremely casual and cozy! We got the 14" oven gourmet pizza and was pretty satisfied. It's a thin crust pizza with pretty decent sauce. Not much to rave about but definitely worth your money. Customer service is amazing! Prices are great, even if they raised the prices it would still be worth it. Ordered a supreme with no shrimp and mushrooms it was perfect! A lot of the family owned pizza places never get cheese to the edge. This place does and their sauce has flavor it's not like carbones ketchup. Pizza is pretty good here. I got a large pepperoni and it was also super cheap. I'm from Milwaukee, WI and regularly go to Chicago for pizza. It's about $8-$12 more for a large thin crust(depending on toppings). We usually try to eat pizza everywhere we go from hole in the wall places. This one had a ton of reviews and had good ones at that. It was super cheesy which I LOVE. The crust had a good flavor, but wasn't crispy. The cheese was also really salty, which is a negative. I don't know what kind of mozzarella they used, or if they added salt on top but I had to stop eating after a square. It made me super thirsty. Overall, if I passed through again I would give it another chance. read more

It was a rainy, cold & dark night when I decided to try this restaurant. If I didn't already have the address and hadn't read the reviews, I'm not sure I would have randomly chosen it for dinner, or even bothered to stop if I was just driving by. From the outside (in the dark) it doesn't look like much. I was in town for one day/night for business and the reviews for Jake's were very favorable. I'm not a big fan of the national pizza chains, which tend to be cookie-cutter. Jake's is about as far from cookie-cutter as you can get. Additionally, it blows away any of them for quality and taste. The ingredients were very good, the cheese had the almost perfect blend of chew & snap, and the crust was baked to close to perfection with the right amount of scorch marks and crunch. If you are even considering Pizza...do - not - hesitate to give Jake's a try! If I'm ever lucky enough to be back in Albert Lea, this will definitely be on my list of stops! If I had one suggestion for the owner(s), it would be to throw up a website. It's really not that hard, and a simple one-page with the current menu would have facilitated me calling in an order for pick-up rather that ordering and waiting. read more

Jake's Pizza is an Albert Lea institution. I don't know if it's the best pizza I've ever had, but it's the best pizza in AL and will always represent part of what AL means to me. Heartily topped and cut into squares, this pizza tastes like I'm eating with my Mom and Dad at my 10th birthday party. And then the next bite tastes like I'm on a date again with my Albert Lea High School sweetie. The bite after that tastes like Christmas break, home from college. And those last bites, they taste like the ones I eat with my wife, who requires we get Jake's every time we're back in town visiting my parents. They also used to deliver to our house out in the country past the Y, even though we were outside of their "delivery range". Good crew up in there. It was evident that this was the place to go for lunch as it was packed with locals. For under $5 you get a gigantic slice of pizza and a can of soda. I believe for $3.50 you could choose from pepperoni, sausage, or cheese. For a few cents more they had a combo. A can of soda was $1. The pizza was hot, fresh, and served quickly. I used to love Jakes Pizza in Albert Lea, MN until the kids took over! Now I order my pizza with mozzarella cheese only and get both, when I tell them I got cheddar on my pizza they give me a complimentary pizza with no cheese because someone wrote "NC" on the box for "No charge!" Then when I take it to them and tell them I wanted mozzarella cheese only the kids got pissy and told me " next time don't order it with no cheese!"
