My recommendation is try something other than the smash burgers. The beef is not fresh and tastes freezer burnt. Keeping fresh patties on the grill a while longer allows the fat to caramelize and makes for a tasty burger. The burgers we had today were not tasty. I have visited here before and I have always had good food and good service. Today, I did the "Build Your Own Burger" option. I got a double with pepper jack cheese, bacon and all the fixings. The burger and fries came out quick (considering the lady in front of us had a $200+ order) and hot. This was a terrific burger. I always feel that if you have something in the menu then you should be able and ready to prepare it. If you can't there should be a sign somewhere saying that. I'm from out of town and picked this place because the menu said they have milkshakes. When I tried to order said milkshake, I was told that they couldn't because there were only two people working. I personally counted six people, two in the front counter space and four in the back cooking area. I can make a milkshake at home by myself. We traveled down to Townsend, TN from Cincinnati, OH with Dazie, our 1954 CHEV 3100 truck, for the Smoky Mountain Nationals 2025 and stumbled upon Apple Valley Mountain Village & Café--and we're so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. The weather was damp and chilly, but the food here brought the warmth we needed. I had the chili and cornbread--spicy, hearty, and just the right kind of comfort food for a mountain day. Our son, whose appetite is the stuff of legend, devoured the Wagyu Beef Burger with a side of twisty fries--both top notch. And let's talk about the highlight: the Apple Pie Pocket. Hot, flavorful, and absolutely unforgettable. We joked we could live off of those all weekend (and we meant it). One of our favorite quirky touches? Caroline the Condiment Cow. Yes, she exists. Really nice people, but geared toward the tourist industry not locals. The food is okay, not great, and pricing is on the high side. Fun little touristy shop next door also higher pricing. $9.99 for a jar of pickles; really? It's a fun place to stop if you're passing through town, but not a place local people would go. Jill and I went to this restaurant in May and it was delicious. The food was good service was great so the other day when we were in the area, we took my daughter. I don't know what happened between now and May but the outside stunk like rotten trash and the food was awful. It was practically inedible. The cashier that took our screwed up our order. The baby's macaroni and cheese looked like they had scraped from the bottom of the bucket. The whole experience was just terrible well not the whole experience. The chocolate milkshakes were delicious and the waitress was nice but the person that takes the orders screwed them up or the Kitchen screwed it up. The biscuits were nice and fluffy but everything else was about "fast food" quality. Employee was nice and it's very clean. Sausage gravy tasted like nothing but flour. The cost was about right for a tourist place, which means 80% higher than I would have paid for a better prepared sandwich at Chick-Fil-A. However there is a soak the tourists 9.75% sales tax, and a 3% adder for using a credit card. Also, that always annoying "tip screen", which starts at 18% and goes to 25%. An absurd amount when you have to stand in line to place your order and all they do is bring it to your table and occasionally ask if you want a drink refill. I won't be back. read more

Really good little cafe. Our visit was for lunch, and hubby enjoyed a great burger while I enjoyed a yummy chicken salad sandwich. Hubby got sidewinder fries, puffy potato small wedges that are crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. My sandwich was served on grilled sourdough, and it was a large sandwich stuffed full. We ate lunch here the other day. All around I give it a solid 4. The pulled pork was super tender but didn't have much in the way of seasonings. We stopped at the Apple Valley Cafe on our way out of Townsend after spending the day taking n the scenery. Their web-site shows they are open until 7:00; but when we called they said they close at 5:00. It is counter style service with tables to sit at after you order. At 5:00 they close the drink area and put away the sweet tea, so get a refill early. The sandwiches were good and the Smash burger is their specialty with really unique homemade fries. They are the winners! When I'm on vacation down here, I treat myself to a sausage and biscuit whenever the mood strikes me which seems to be most every morning lol. I thought it would be fun over the last couple years to evaluate different restaurants sausage and biscuits I thought I was done for this trip in my evaluations but woke up with a craving for a sausage biscuit on my final day. I thought I would revisit Apple Valley Café oh my goodness! I'm so glad I did. I said I guess God wanted me to have a real treat today! It was amazing! The sausage was big nicely spicy and flavorful. The biscuit was buttery and moist, and held together nicely. The café was busy when I went in. I followed in a pretty large group, but it didn't take much time at all. They really can get the food out. They even have order ahead ordering. Coffee was amazing too! Can't wait till my Fall trip! read more

Shoutout to the people who work here who are friendly and feel like your next door neighbor. Actually they are kind of like my next door neighbors... The menu is pretty simple, but it's good. Had the sammich in the photo: super filling and delicious. They do serve coffee, but nothing that's froo froo. If you want that, go down the road a half mile to Townsend, which I'm leaving a review for next. Also lots of seating and free wifi and places to charge your phone and laptops, for us digital nomads and vanlifers. Townsend is my jam! read more

It came in a single-use Styrofoam cup, was watery, and lacked flavor. Total cost for the three of us was between $30 and $40. Ambience: 4 out of 5. The interior was clean and reasonably pleasant. Service: 3 out of 5. Food came out quickly, but there was no waiter and minimal prep involved. Food: 2 out of 5. Edible, but forgettable. Food quality is my top priority, and this was the weakest element by far. This place fits the mold of a tourist-area café. Ok, it is probably not good form to offer a five star rating when you only ate one thing. However, when the wife and I travel we always look to try the local dishes that an area is known for. Tennessee is definitely known for their deep fried hand pies. The funny thing is the menu makes no mention of them, either on the web or in the restaurant. But we walked in for a coffee and spied them, sitting out, just crying to be purchased and eaten right then. We were on our way to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, which is something that has to be seen to be believed (the town not the theme park) so we grabbed two "to go" and ate them while driving. Hot, succulent, with a crispy, buttery crust and the flavor of pure apple inside. Go in the morning, hunt them down and indulge! Oh yeah - what flavors do you have?
