Kinda deep in Julian away from everyone but amazing selections on apple and pears. Wagons were also available for usages which was super handy. Will definitely make this an annual thing.

My girlfriend and I had a lot of fun here! Picked some delicious apples for such an affordable price compared to other orchards in the area! Their Gala apples are so juicy! Staff was helpful and friendly and maintained a safe atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and come back!

These are all the Gala apples we got. Not gigantic, but very yummy!

First time apple picking and we loved this place, especially that they are organic. Friendly, parking good. Will go again!

Love Apple Starr. Nicest people, gorgeous farm, very authentic vibe!! They have picking poles and wagons for kids, super fun. So much fruit this year.

    Pear picking

Such a great spot for apple picking. We just went today and had a great time. They have a wide variety of organic apples and pears. There was an abundance of fruit. All the fruit is delicious. We went middle of the day on a Sunday and it wasn't super busy, it was perfect. $30/bag and $20/bag after that. One bag can fit a lot! (No admission fee) Everyone working there was really nice and helpful. This place is just past Vulcan apple picking - you have to keep going down the road, look for the Apple Starr Orchard Signs. For our family of 4 the Apple Starr Orchard was cheaper than Vulcan, plus it's Organic and had pears too. And this orchard was way less busy than Vulcan. Kids loved it. We'll be coming back here as a family tradition!

Awesome apple and pear picking a couple weeks ago. Tons of fruit and no crowds. Keep driving until end of the road to find this place. Staff was super helpful as well.

We went last year and had an excellent experience! Looking forward to this year's visit! They are organic apples and pears so aren't the cheapest you'll find but they were tasty! One odd thing: my son had an allergic reaction of some sorts-we panicked and there's nothing very close by and farm is truly just farm so be sure pick all you need.

Easy enough for a 2 year (+2mos) old to do.

When I was looking for an orchard to take my 2-year-old daughter to, I had two requirements. I wanted the experience to be authentic so I wasn't looking for a "circus" to make it fun for her--and more importantly, I wanted the fruit to be organic. After much review, I found that Apple Starr Orchards fit the bill. Our family went on opening weekend and had such an enjoyable time. I found the location to be perfect. After passing a very large, commercialized and super busy orchard right as we pulled onto Julian Orchard Drive, I was very worried. I didn't want that. But thankfully, our GPS kept telling us to keep going down the road. Soon, the gravel road turned into a dirt road. PERFECT! We arrived right around noon and there were less than 6 cars there and the orchard was much smaller in size than the one that we had just passed. This was exactly the experience I was seeking. The old wooden barn and the run down tractor was an epic sight. The smell alone brought my husband back to his childhood days in Michigan and it brought me back to the days I spent on my Grandparents land sitting under large fruit trees just helping myself to whatever I felt like eating. The owners greeted us under a tent and got us set up for our adventure. I knew they only accepted cash/check but my husband and I had a miscommunication and each thought the other grabbed cash. We were all unloaded and mentioned we'd have to go back into town to get cash and the owner kindly said to just promise you'll drop a check in the mail when you get home and don't worry about it. That was a very kind act and very generous of them to offer. Thanks to this, we were able to grab our wagon and picking tool and off to picking we went. It didn't take long for my daughter to get the hang of using the fruit picking pole. We showed her which ones to pick and she was a pro in no time. And soon after that, she was following our lead and tasting the fruit as we went. Even though they weren't ripe yet, she loved the Granny Smith apples the most. She ate two of them fresh off of the tree! The pears probably need another week to ripen but the ones we tasted were still crisp and delicious. I look forward to making a pie and adding them to salads in the coming days and weeks ahead. I'd highly recommend coming here early in the season. This isn't a large orchard so you probably won't be able to find much after several weeks of people picking. Be sure to check their website religiously starting in August so you don't miss their opening dates announcement. We had so much fun! At $25 for the first bag and $15 for each additional, this is the epitome of family fun time and will be an annual event for our family. But again...come early in the season.

I love this place!!! When the kids were smaller, we would take them to the dwarf orchard so they could reach, but now that they are older, they love using the pickers to get their fruit. There's always plenty of parking and the staff there is so friendly! Did I mention it's all organic?? Apples and pears for days. This place is the best!

This is a cute little organic orchard which is a lot less packed than some other orchards in the area. The people that work there are super nice and the selection of apples and pears is huge. Disclaimer bags are 25$ for the first and 15$ for the second so it's definitely pricey but you get organic apples and a good experience!

Love that you could eat the apples and the pears as you walked the orchard! The kids had a great time using the apple pickers too!

Apparently everything is from local small farms around San Diego and possibly a few things owner made. A lot of items didn't have pricing which for me prevented me from buying more but I actually just went shopping elsewhere before stopping in so I would've bought more. The fruit and veggies are not all nice and shinny like at the grocery stores, these items look to be straight from a farm imo. Don't expect to find everything in perfect shape or that you don't have to look through the fruits or veggies and if you know, you know! Their items were a bit high but it's worth it when it comes to our struggling farmers!!! I'll buy more from them from here & out.

They consistently carry some of the best-quality produce currently available from San Diego and the surrounding areas, thoughtfully curated with real care. Misses are rare, and when something isn't right, they always make it right. What really sets this place apart is the knowledgeable team. They can tell you not just what something is, but where it's from, why it's special, and even how best to prepare it if it's new to you. They know which watermelon varietals are sweetest (and why), which tomatoes are best for different uses, and how to guide you toward the best choice of the day. We also appreciate the simplicity of the space. It's clear the focus is on quality produce rather than unnecessary overhead or décor that doesn't add to flavor or nutrition. We come in knowing our weekly staples, and we always look forward to discovering a surprise treat or seasonal treasure to add to the basket. We recently lived in Spain for a year and deeply miss the fruterías found on every corner, places that genuinely support daily health and well-being. In the U.S., truly good produce can be harder to find, with so much emphasis on mass production and appearance over flavor and nutrition. The Fruit Stand comes as close as we've found to that European produce experience. We're grateful this place exists and grateful for the care they put into what they offer. Thank you for being here--and we'll see you next week.

There's plenty of overflow parking and staff is directing traffic. We wanted to buy apples in the shop to take home, but nothing there! You'll only get apples on the farm if you were lucky to get a tour. Maybe we'll try to snatch apple tours again next year but this place is great to take family, friends & little ones. They even allowed dogs so many furry friends were wandering around.
