a young boy picking apples from a crate

Came down from Orange County to get in on the Apple picking. Maps gave us directions and had us turn down a dirt road, the sign was extremely faded and hard to read. Plus it was the wrong way. They need a huge sign that reads Calico Ranch. The farm is right off the main road that does have a sign saying "u pick" or "apple picking" I forget which one. Anyways it would be super helpful to have a sign saying which farm it is. Onto the picking of Apples and pears we were greeted and offered samples. The bags to fill up w/apples is $10, we signed a waiver and we're also given the option if we wanted to fill our bags with apples/pears that were already picked(I did use this option for the pears since we were told the trees were further out and we had a toddler who wasn't up for a lot of walking.)That was very convenient to be able to pick from the crates filled with apples.

Friendliest of all the apple orchards. This place is awesome. Pears and apples all kinds. Huge apples too. Hard cider coming too. Thus is our new annual picking spot. Right off the road and no one acting like your stealing like other orchards. So nice here all organic fruit.

    Yum!

They have the most amazing apple and pears!! The cider is also to die for and all organic!

They consistently carry some of the best-quality produce currently available from San Diego and the surrounding areas, thoughtfully curated with real care. Misses are rare, and when something isn't right, they always make it right. What really sets this place apart is the knowledgeable team. They can tell you not just what something is, but where it's from, why it's special, and even how best to prepare it if it's new to you. They know which watermelon varietals are sweetest (and why), which tomatoes are best for different uses, and how to guide you toward the best choice of the day. We also appreciate the simplicity of the space. It's clear the focus is on quality produce rather than unnecessary overhead or décor that doesn't add to flavor or nutrition. We come in knowing our weekly staples, and we always look forward to discovering a surprise treat or seasonal treasure to add to the basket. We recently lived in Spain for a year and deeply miss the fruterías found on every corner, places that genuinely support daily health and well-being. In the U.S., truly good produce can be harder to find, with so much emphasis on mass production and appearance over flavor and nutrition. The Fruit Stand comes as close as we've found to that European produce experience. We're grateful this place exists and grateful for the care they put into what they offer. Thank you for being here--and we'll see you next week.

How will I force myself to eat grocery store berries ever again??? It's a serious question. I saw they had some salsas and honey and other local items which is great. They do accept card payment and have outside bins set up with different selections too. Friendly staff and quick to help you. I'll be back.

Every Friday and Saturday, Taj opens his farm stand to the public, and it's here that you will find freshest, most delicious organic produce you've ever purchased in your life. My wife and I stop by every Saturday morning to see what Taj has, and we're always amazed at the selection, which changes from week to week depending on what's ready for harvest. Yesterday, for example, we bought broccoli, carrots, celery, lettuce, spring onions, and edible (!!) flowers. Then, Taj told us to wait a minute. He went out to his gardens and harvested some sugar snap peas for us right then and there. Oh. My. God. The sweetest, most delicious snap peas I've ever eaten. We of course bought some of those too. And that's the real beauty of going to the farm stand yourself instead of just doing a CSA box. You get to interact with Taj. He'll tell you what he loves best at the moment, and introduce you to some things you might not have otherwise tried (hello, black radish!). You'll also find fresh eggs (we have our own chickens so I don't need to buy those), lemons, and a variety of other produce. Whatever's fresh. Whatever's delicious. And if you need more of something, Taj is more than happy to go out in the garden and pick it for you. Extra bonus: the prices are very reasonable. The farm stand is currently open only on Friday from 2:30 to 5:00 PM, and Saturday from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Check the website for updates or give Taj a call.
