Un-Genius Bar--I made an appointment to have my iPhone serviced. The appointment app asked me to identify my device and the problem. It needed a new battery. It does not take a Genius to figure out when setting up an appointment for a battery replacement; the inventory should be checked to ensure the battery is in stock. But the brilliant minds setting up the logistics of the repair services by appointment have not gotten to that step. Inventory was not checked until I traveled over 500 miles and started checking in. I wish they had let me know when I made the appointment, or at least the day before, that the battery was unavailable at that location. It is a beautiful building and I commend Apple for preserving it. read more

I've been to all the Apple Stores in the DMV area and this is arguably the best one. I picked up my Apple Watch from here during the COVID pandemic and the overall experience was very fast and smooth. Also, I was here on the location's opening day in 2019 and really enjoyed how the Carnegie Library was repurposed so nicely for the store. The DC History Center upstairs and downstairs exhibit on the Library's history are really enlightening and cool to peruse as well. I'm admittedly a fan of Apple's products and stores, and can say with confidence that this one is one of their best put together stores. In terms of aesthetics and overall experience, it's up there with the Downtown Brooklyn, Fifth Avenue, and Grand Central Terminal stores in NYC and the location at The Grove in Los Angeles. read more

I bought an iPhone 16 in November with a T Mobile trade-in deal. Less than five months later the phone just stops working, black screen, won't power on. No physical or water damage so Apple should accept it on Limited Warranty. A tech named Abdur-Raqeeb took my phone and told me that the Apple Store in Pentagon City could fix it in 90 minutes. Then he left, came back, and told me the store wouldn't take my phone and they would have to send it to an "off-site facility" for at least a week. He told me he would get me a loaner and left again. After more waiting, it was getting pretty late and the tech's shift must have ended because I was passed off to someone else to set up my loaner. However, this person couldn't even authenticate my phone with my provider before 8pm, the store closed, and they kicked me out. I was able to set up the loaner on my own because I'm pretty tech savvy but the whole experience has been a pain from start to finish. The loaner is several years old, which is fine, but it uses a lightning charger, not USB-C, and I wasn't offered one, and since I'm responsible for the loaner, I have to buy a case as well as a charger I won't need in a week... The lesson here is to always buy your iPhone several generations behind so you don't get a defective one, preferably one that has been "refurbished" (fixed) by a third-party electronics vendor. read more

Whoa, an Apple store is a store but this location is different! I was on a hunt for the new AirPods Pro before Christmas and this location was the only location that had it available. Well-lit and high ceilings, this is the largest Apple store I've been to in the DC area. The inside was simply stunning, beautiful, and elegant! The architecture of this structure amazed me. It's also part library and museum. The marble floors and modern furnishing, just a magnificent establishment to look at. Approachable and friendly staff here! I went here on November 11th for a new iPhone, and everyone was so friendly, funny, and helpful. Everyone I worked with took their time with all of my questions about the iPhone choices and transferring my data. (I had a lot of questions because technology isn't my strong suit.) They showed me great new features on the iPhone and weighed the pros and cons of each iPhone choice. While I waited for my data to transfer to my new iPhone, several people checked on me. I also had the opportunity to work with a friendly and knowledgeable employee who was using an ASL translator on an iPad. It was really awesome to see accessibility in real time. Carnegie Library is an interesting model. It's a historic library opened by the Carnegie family in 1902 (it was dedicated in 1903). During a time when most places in D.C. were segregated, this public library was for everyone. The architecture is gorgeous and there's plenty of space to read and relax. However, it closed in the 1970s. After a few decades closed, it reopened with the DC Historical Society inside. It housed the Society and was used for events for awhile. However, the upkeep was too much. In May 2019, the library reopened with the help of Apple. Spending an alleged $33M, Apple restored it using its original floor design. They have, of course, retail inside, but the majority of the space is used for the community. Apple has daily free classes on design, coding, and photography. They have a program to teach kids to code through dancing robots and teachers how to use tech in the classroom. There's a space for entrepreneurs to help them grow their businesses. The basement has an exhibit that tells the story of the actual building. Upstairs is where the DC Historical Society still is and Apple helped them build a research library with 100,000+ cataloged photographs, thousands of books and maps as well. They have two galleries telling the history of DC. There's also a Shop Made In DC selling local items from cards to coasters to snacks. Regardless of your stance on big business, it's worth visiting to see a beautiful, historic building and a new model of preserving spaces. read more

What can I say? They took a library and turned it into an Apple store. Fortunately the Historical Society had a 99-year lease on the building, so there are a few small galleries and a tiny research library that occupy the upper and lower levels. The Apple store occupies the main level and is sprawling. They have every possible product and accessory you could want. It is presented in typical dazzling fashion. As I walked through looking at things here and there, I was approached by no fewer than 10 employees asking me how they could help. In my opinion, that's totally overkill. I get that it's a loss prevention tactic, but it's also extremely annoying. The photo galleries in the building are pretty interesting. They feature digital, interactive components which give them a high-tech feel. I loved learning more about DC history and even some of the events that shaped our city's history. As I sit here writing this review on an iPhone, I'm not one of those people who "enjoys" Apple stores. I wouldn't visit just to see the store. But I would go back if the exhibits change (and hopefully won't get hounded by Apple employees). For the building itself, it has been impeccably restored. It is an architectural treasure and a stylistic masterpiece. If you don't want to go inside, it's worth a walk around the grounds. read more

I'm not even an Apple person but I've had such great experiences at Apple Carnegie! I have been to events like the grand opening, photo tutorials, Art All Night, and I've seen speakers like Rep. John Lewis. Most recently I took my cousin who was visiting from out of town and managed to freeze her iPhone while trying to do an update. They checked to see when her phone was last backed up, attempted to reboot it without doing a factory reset, and when that failed they did the reset and fixed her phone. All for free! While she was being helped, my Mom was able to ask another representative about doing custom back ups and was very pleased. read more

Came in for a Vision Pro demo 10 minutes early. Was asked to check in and waited until my appointment time. The two workers finishing up the last appointments were talking to themselves and said something about being off once done. As soon as they finished, they asked our names to check us in and simply left. We waited for 20 minutes before deciding to leave and no one ever addressed us or let us know how long we would have to wait. To top it off, a worker came over with another person and started the demo with them, never addressing us at all. If they couldn't do the appointment at the given time, they should not let you select it when you make the appointment. This was very inconsiderate and disrespectful of our time as we had plans made and were excited to try it on our way. read more

Made a Genius Bar appointment with my Apple Care to repair a cracked screen. Returned 3 times because they are "full for repairs for the day". 6 hours of traveling over 3 separate days and they still will jot give me a reservation. The technician manager said "first come first serve". So now I am without a phone for an entire day while they spend 7 hours to put a new screen on. read more

This is a very cool building to visit. The history behind it is also very interesting which you can learn all about it in the basement. The building is very clean!! Lots of staff available to help answer any questions you may have. The first and main floor is the Apple store but it's not like a regular Apple store. There is a huge selection of all of Apple's products. On the second floor is a digital art gallery and the library but they were both clothed when I came on a Saturday. Still a cool visit and it's free to enter and walk around. read more

I understand the precautions for COVID but the staff is downright rude. A staff member accused my husband of spying on a customer's open laptop when he simple thought it was a product. The staff member could have handled this in a very different way instead of a blatant accusation. Beautiful building. Helpful staff. Good CoVID precautions measures. However, this is great store for young or healthy people. For someone with physical impediment ( difficulty standing), I found it inconvenient. I had to take my iPad in for battery issues. Even though I made an online appointment for a particular time slot and arrived 15 minutes in advance, I had to stand in waiting line twice - first outside to check in, then inside. Once inside, I was told to stand on a mark and a staff who gave these instructions walked away. Since it was exactly the time of my appointment, I thought I will be called to the service station right away. But no, I had to stand and wait. If they couldn't keep my appointment time, they should have told me that they are running late and gave me an estimate. There are no benches or chairs in the waiting area. Young people in front of me went out of the marked area to sit on the edge of huge tree pots. There were no any spare space left there ( unless violating the distancing), so I had to stand. It was very difficult for me ( I am recovering from foot injury). I would have left but really needed my iPad to be fixed that day. read more

What can I say? Gorgeous classic architecture built in 1902, just the outside is breathtaking. Every time I come here I spend a few minutes just staring at this stunning building. Inside, the perfect mix of classic and modern. The geniuses swarm to help you as soon as you walk in. They have availability of products. This is the only location where I was able to find the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The service is quick and seamless and the fast in-house Wi-Fi makes it super easy to set up your new device. Make sure to go upstairs and enjoy the galleries. I would give it 10 stars if I could. read more

Now, find out 'salesman' may not have ccproperly documented included AirPods in AppleCare purchased for the whole package. This morning my husband and I, both very non-techi persons, spent two hours being shepherded through the process of buying an iPhone, transferring date from old iPhone to new one, clearing old phone of data, and transferring in new data from another old iPhone, and setting up an Apple Watch. All this was done with extreme courtesy, patience, and good humor by Saidovna Kamara and by Tomison. We were impressed by the knowledge and customer service attitudes of both these Apple team members. Mixed feelings on this experience! The biggest complaint is the epic waste of time. Although there were loads of Apple employees standing around, I needed appointments to get a new battery in the iPhone and figure out what items were consuming storage on my MacBook. They get to you fast, but then it breaks down. Nobody mentioned I needed to replace my screen bc of a crack. They didn't have any screens in stock, so I had to make ANOTHER appointment once it got replaced. I returned later and then it took over 2.5 hours to replace the battery. Ridiculous! As far as the laptop, I wasted 1/2 an hour on the phone with a clueless Apple Support person - despite there being tons of Apple employees twiddling their thumbs. And another appt was needed. Sooooo frustrating. But the 5 Star goes to Palmer, who eventually showed me the Disk Inventory X software. And a nifty SD card storage. PALMER saves the day! read more

Warranty for 5 month old Beats should cover manufacturing defect & hairline crack, but in store "Genius Bar" attendee doesn't have drop down field for that-wants $199 to repair. Quite simply,my favorite Apple Store in the DMV. The building is gorgeous and the customer service is top notch.

This review is in relation to laptop repair. The building is beautiful and the staff are nice and attentive, but I don't think any of the employees are anywhere near experts in computer repair. It seems like all they know how to do is erase your hard drive. I can't prove this but I would gamble that a lot of people are just told their computers cannot be fixed without wiping the hard drive, and it feels lazy on APPLE's part. If you need computer repair, look up the independent repair places that have actual computer experts on staff. read more

Each one looked at me like I was inconveniencing them and told me to wait a minute. They then proceeded to BS with fellow employees. The architectural restoration was very carefully thought out. Well done. A whole wing has at least five Genius Bar tables and in a typical Apple Store you'd find just one. In addition to tables and tables of merchandise, the store has a big open space for group classes and training with a huge video screen. read more

Terrible experience. Made an appointment for a demo of the Vision Pro because my SO was excited to try it. Showed up 10 minutes early to the appointment and they checked us in and gave no more communication. We waited 30 minutes until 20 minutes after and still no one communicated anything with us that there would be a delay or anything. One of the people working it said they were off after the appointment before us and told the other to figure something out to make our appointment. Then a few minutes after our appointment time this other person walked up and they took him first and left the two of us with no communication. We ended up just leaving because there was only one person working it and they would have most likely done us one by one which would take an hour and we would have been there over an hour extra which we did not expect because we had other things we needed to get to. Extremely disrespectful of our time. Worst experience I've ever had with Apple at this location which is sad since I'm had previous good experience with Apple care here. read more

I purchased the Logitech detachable keyboard. He literally walked me thru various options and helped me set it up! There are several knowledgeable, friendly and helpful people in the store. Firstly, lemme just say this: Nathalie? Beautiful service, great energy, and the best thing is? She personalized my experience. She was a joy to work with and treated me like family. She knew what she was talking about and made the diagnostic in as little as 15 minutes for my iPhone. She really deserves a raise. Therefore, they need to give it to her. Or space in management, whichever comes with more merit. Thanks a bunch, Nathalie!!! (I'd add a heart but Yelp doesn't allow that) The best part about this place is that everyone is trained to know basic sign language, making it all-inclusive and welcoming for everyone. They also allow dogs in the store, so that's something to talk about. The security is a little... wow. It feels like you're walking into TSA with all the safety protocols in place like contact tracing (You have to provide your phone number, zip code, name, email address, if applicable) temp checks at the door (If you leave, the premises, you will have to provide your information and get your temperature checked again before they let you in) legit socially distanced cubes (I swear they had to be like ten feet apart) to sit in under beautiful architect; the whole experience was just like mind-blowingly amazing. Safety? You won't have to be worried about that, *ever* in this location. The location this store resides in is just gorgeous and welcoming. You can sit under trees and under at least 50-foot tall skylights all while enjoying the mega-screen promoting products and surround sound music. Do you know how most Apple storefronts are cramped and only have two Genius bars? This one had *rooms* for the Geniuses to work in; at least five different ones for them to diagnose the problems and for you to chill out and check out some products. All in all, I've never had an Apple experience this pleasurable and personalized, so yes, I will be back and will recommend this location to anyone in need of a Genuis Bar or interested in buying an Apple Product. read more
