For an upcoming trip I wanted to finally get an AirTag to use in my luggage to keep track of it. I constantly pass this location when commuting through DC and I figured I should stop real quick one evening on my way home from work. I don't think I really need to say how stunning this location is. Being a former Carnegie Library and all. Also, being from the Pittsburgh region originally, it was a treat to see. I made it inside and went to the shelves to browse. I found what I wanted, and in typical Apple fashion you are forced to interact with the staff. I'm not opposed to that, but the introvert I am took a few minutes to warm up to the idea. I roamed about for a few minutes before heading towards someone to ask for help. I got to see the rest of the space doing this and take in how grand this place is. Once I was spotted as needing something I was on my way. I told the employee what I wanted and they had to get from their stock to bring it out to me. Once they had it they went through the process of sale (which confuses me), and soon enough I had the item in hand. Not without some delays. Their payment systems wasn't playing nice with my phone or card. It wouldn't take the tap and the employee said they had been having problems with it. Finally, after inserting, I was able to get my item and go. Great customer service, but just an over the top store overall. read more

While traveling, I cracked my screen protector. My OCD was lighting up my brain every time I used my phone, so I had to get something done. Luckily, an Apple Store was a block away from my hotel in this fantastic building. It is worth the trip to check out the Carnegie Library and the Apple people were great. Fast, helpful and cheerful. I have been many apple stores, but this has to be my favorite. They said this is the second largest Apple store in the world. The best part about this store is that they allow dogs. Customer service is very good. It's easy to find a tech support in this story. They have so many people working here. I have had a couple of issues and their team was able to resolve it soon. I also had issues with Beats Pro, they were so nice to replace it with AirPods Pro. This location has street parking. I recommend taking a metro if you don't plan to drive. It's easy to book appointments online as well. Since they have so many technicians, it's easy to book same day appointments too. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. The worst customer service imaginable, with the exception of a woman named Brittany, who was very kind to me, and some of the men were fine. The other female employees were either flat out ridiculing me or not helping me at all, making me wait over 4 hours to finally determine that the new iPhone they had sold me was defective. Particularly, there was a female employee with dark hair, piercings, and tattoos on the larger side who was intentionally antagonizing me, causing me to leave in tears. As for the phone, I returned it but still have not received the refund, and was charged an additional AppleCare plus fee. The value is 0 because the experience was awful and the product they sold me had to be returned. I wasted over 4 hours to be humiliated and left with no new phone, no refund (yet, we'll see), and no recommendations for what to do next, nor any helpful advice. Oh, and don't bother calling ahead of time, because even if you are able to reach Apple support, the Apple support team is not able to reach the store employees. Finally, don't rely on appointment times. If you book them online vs. over the phone vs. in person, the systems don't always coordinate according to the employees there. And if you go there after or around 5pm, despite the store not closing until 8pm, they won't help you. read more

The store is huge and they offer classes. However, I made a Genius Bar appointment in person because I needed to see someone rather than speak to them online via Apple Care. The Apple Care representative made the appointment for me a few days before going in. When I arrived, I discovered they must have got my details mixed up with another customer. I was there for a Mac computer rather than a cell phone. They asked me to wait another 20 minutes. When I received a text to go see about the Genius Bar, I was called back to a different room. I waited again. I was 40 minutes in before I saw the Genius Bar tech and he wasn't able to fully address the issue. He helped with some of it but advised me to call Apple Care when I got home. He implied Apple Care consultants received better training than employees who worked inside the store. When I got home, I called Apple Care and the supervisor was able to assist with all of my concerns. I'm not sure what's happened to Apple regarding service and their store locations. But, Apple Care is also hit or miss with customer service too. In store U.S. customer service has always been excellent. They've always been able to resolve an issue during an appointment. I've never been sent away and asked to call Apple Care. Apple Carnegie Library location is great for buying products and trying them out beforehand. In addition, the basement is a museum. It's worth a visit but maybe not at their Genius Bar. read more

This store looks pretty, and everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful. However, if you look below that superficial surface, their process and setup for their Genius Bar needs help. I was passed off to at least six people with tons of wait time sitting waiting in between. And this was after I had already contacted Apple Support who had documented my problem. 1. I encountered someone at the door who I told I had an appointment. But then even though the details of my problem were in the notes I had provided, plus the Apple Support notes, she proceeded to ask me the problem and describe it. She directed me to a location to sit and wait. I was five minutes early, so waiting for five minutes didn't seem too unreasonable. Except that there were tons of employees all around me laughing and joking and not doing anything. I sat there for 10+ minutes until employee 2 showed up. 2. Employee two proceeded to ask me again what the problem was. I described it again and they started the process to connect the iPad to their laptop to force a manual update to restart. Told me it should only be about 10-15 mins and he would be back. About 30 mins later he came back and discovered that the update had stopped while he was away. He proceeded to restart the update but then passed me off to employee three who was supposed to monitor. 3. Employee three stuck around for about a minute and said he would be back. 10 mins later I was able to flag him down because something else had happened to the device that he needed to fix. 4. He passed me off to employee four. Employee four also stayed for a minute or so and then proceeded to help other guests. I flagged him down when the iPad needed something else done to it, and it looked like another failed attempt to install the update so he contacted employee 3. Employee 3 came back and said that I'd need a new iPad. He passed me off to employee 5. 5. Employee five was quick, stayed with me, and explained what she was doing the whole time. But then she said her shift ended and passed me off to (unseen) employee 6 who was supposed to order a new iPad. 6. Employee 4 came to check on me after I stood up very annoyed at about the 30 minute mark. 30 minutes since employee 5 left, 2 hours total there. He assured me they made contact and were processing the order. He came back 10 minutes later and then I could finally leave. Not with my new iPad, oh no, I had to go to another Apple Store for that...! read more

Due to covid the patience to get inside is a lot more than normal but they do the contract tracing via a outside provider just in case there is an outbreak due to DC allowing more people inside. I think even though it adds time on to your appointment it's good for us to know. Once you walk in and get everything straight with the contract tracing...then you are assigned a Genius Bar team member. I was assigned with Grace and let me tell you!!!! She is extremely amazing!!! She was throughly helpful and was very sweet. I was with her over an hour and she never complained at all. She was even very helpful in telling me different setups for several accessories. She explained how her setup at home is as well. This location is very clean, everyone is wearing a mask, and they have alcohol and hand sanitizer at each table. All in all this location was great!! I've been a loyal Apple customer for over 10 years. I have an iphone, airpods, ipad, and macbook. Obviously I've spent a lot of money on Apple products and have been content to stay in their technological ecosystem. Until I visited Apple Carnegie Library. Exactly 88 days prior to my visit, I'd taken my Macbook Pro to Apple Montgomery Mall because it had stopped turning on. They offered to repair whatever was wrong for a flat fee of ~$600. The work that they did had a 90 day warranty on it (see photo). Lo and behold, at day 87, just 3 days before the warranty expired, my computer suddenly refused to reboot. It would not turn on, and would not accept a charge. I called Apple and arranged to have it returned and repaired under warranty. She asked if I wanted to mail it in or drop it off. Thinking I'd save some time by getting it into Apple's hands immediately, I said I'd drop it off at the store. BIG MISTAKE. She choose the Carnegie Library location, and set up the appointment. When I arrived at the scheduled time, I thought I'd be in and out in 15 minutes. Instead, I didn't get seen for 15 minutes. When Bryan was finally available, rather than pull up the ticket the phone rep had written and accept the laptop, he plugged it in to charge and then disappeared for 20 minutes. This was frustrating because I'd already done this at home, and knew it would not charge. I'd tested multiple cables and different ports. When Bryan returned (after I asked another employee) he immediately copped an attitude with me. First he denied the laptop was under warranty. Then he admitted that the work was under warranty, but said that because my screen had a small, dime sized crack on it, I'd have to spend $600 on a screen replacement to get the "free" warranty work done to repair the not turning on issue, which was unrelated to the screen. I said they didn't need to replace the screen, that it worked with the crack, and I simply wanted the warranty repair. I said I did not expect a free screen repair, I simply wanted the reoccurring issue addressed. However, he insisted that the only way I could get a repair under warranty, without having to pay $600 for a new screen, was if it was done at the store. So I agreed. By the time he finished submitting the repair and I could sign the agreement and leave, an hour had passed since my appointment time. The whole thing was taking much longer than I expected "dropping it off" to take. The store was supposed to call me with an update after they checked the charger connections. They did not. Instead, they waited several days until a part came in. Then called in the evening, and left a message saying I needed to either pick up my laptop as it was (unable to turn on), or approve the $600 charge for the cracked screen before they sent it to the repair facility for the "not turning on" problem. They also said the store would be closed for 3 days for the NATO summit, with my laptop locked inside it. Because of the time it took them to order parts, and close for the NATO summit, by the time I could speak with them again, the 90 day warranty was expired. So I called Apple, told them the situation, said I wanted the laptop to be sent from the store to the repair facility, and then shipped directly to me. I said I never wanted to step foot inside that store again. They said that was impossible. All they could do was transfer me to the store. When a store employee got on the phone, she again denied that my laptop was under a warranty. She claimed that Apple did not offer a 90 day warranty on repairs, which is a lie (see screenshot), and I'd have to pay $600 for the repair. So I had to ask to speak to the manager. When I began to explain the situation to the manager, he abruptly cut me off and would not let me speak. Like his staffer, he lied and said that Apple did not offer a 90 day repair warranty. When I tried to interject, he interrupted and talked over me, refusing to let me speak. In a very rude manner, he said, "As a courtesy," they'd cover the cost of the repair. Although this was dishonest, and not the solution I was looking for (I honestly just wanted them to honor the warranty), I agreed. However, the entire situation left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Examining the small print, I see that the device should have been returned to the original store where the repair was done for the 90 day warranty. I would have done this, but the Apple employee made the appointment at Carnegie Library. Rather than explain the policy, they lied, gaslit me, and invented a multitude of reasons to charge me $600, which is the same as the original repair fee. I am disgusted with Apple Carnegie Library's lying staff, poor communication, bad scheduling, lack of understanding of their own warranty policy, and lack of consideration for their customers time. I don't intend to buy from Apple ever again. Yelp won't let me attach the warranty terms, but you can google it. read more

This is by far the coolest Apple Store I've ever seen. I can't imagine what the company paid to take over the Carnegie Library. They even engraved the Apple logo into the walls of the entrance. There were several greeters to take your name and assign you support. The inventory seemed to be stacked. No supply chain issues as far as I could tell. And the store appeared to be spread out enough to cover the entire library. Even if you don't use Apple products or don't need anything, this place is worth dropping by just to check out. read more

There are plenty of employees roaming around in their red shirts but sometimes you have to track them down compared to the other way around. Having two deaf relatives, we enjoyed a store tour with one of the 40 Apple employees in this location that uses a sign language. With my nephew as the interpreter, Barbara was really patient and helpful in giving us the full tour and i story of the building. Very impressive. This isn't your typical Apple store. I'd definitely put this location on your list of places to go when in Washington. You may even want to sign up for one of their cool ad interesting educational classes. I had a horrifying experience here a few years ago, where I was discriminated against by a manager, who talked down to me, demean my intelligence, and gave me the worst attitude of my life. I vowed to never come back here until I had no choice but to since it's the only Apple Store in DC that is easily accessible by public transportation. My customer service rep this time was so much nicer, but it was clear that Apple is designed not to help you fix your phone but to sell you a product. An Apple Store is an Apple Store....same products, same inventory, same selection.....And, never no damn sales!! What's up with that!? Set aside....the perfect location, a cool repurposed building such as the historic Andrew Carnegie Library --with great architecture, history and landmark value you would think....all Apple stores are generally all the same. BUTTTTTT, that is not the case with this location. What sets this store apart from all the others is the overall customer experience, outstanding service, and knowledgeable technical staff. This particular Apple Store has become my "go-to"....personal flagship store in the DMV!! It's way less chaotic than other Apple stores around city and its metro accessible. I came here to upgrade my iPhone 8 to the new iPhone 11. Surprisingly to be the "newest-shiny" Apple Store location in DC, this location seems to be one of the few stores that's never over-crowded and you don't have to endure long waits to be serviced. I mean at some of the locations in the surrounding DC area, you find yourself waiting longer than it takes for a Lauren Hill, Drake or Mariah Carey concert (Vegas show excluded) to start. And, if you have ever been to one of these performer's concerts....you will catch my drift!! At any rate, we all know Apple products rock, but by all means the pretentious "Rockstar / DIVA- attitude, rude service and treatment you get at some of the locations in DC (which I will not name here...ehhemmm...Pentagon City Mall)....are unbelievable and the worst. One thing I can say is that I have not had that customer experience here. I have been twice to this location and I have noticed the service is always been prompt and I felt like my dollars spent here...and I do mean $$$$ were appreciated some sort. Let's be real here, nothing in Apple is cheap or ever on sale. As mentioned, I came in to upgrade my iPhone 8 -- cracked screen and all. lol I was able to get my iPhone upgraded, without making an appointment as most locations make you do. I walked in, was greeted, explained my situation.....and in less than an hour I was in & out with a brand new functional iPhone 11 which I love and that is no longer cutting my fingers with each swipe or giving me glass splinters: like my previously damaged iPhone 8. During the wait, I browsed around and played with every device in the store.....I tried to resist....but in the process I even upgraded my old iPad. Un-Genius Bar--I made an appointment to have my iPhone serviced. The appointment app asked me to identify my device and the problem. It needed a new battery. It does not take a Genius to figure out when setting up an appointment for a battery replacement; the inventory should be checked to ensure the battery is in stock. But the brilliant minds setting up the logistics of the repair services by appointment have not gotten to that step. Inventory was not checked until I traveled over 500 miles and started checking in. I wish they had let me know when I made the appointment, or at least the day before, that the battery was unavailable at that location. It is a beautiful building and I commend Apple for preserving it. read more

I have been watching the construction taking place to the building for a while. I walk by Mt. Vernon Square several times a week. The Apple store opened mid-May. The Carnegie library still has the same beautiful look and marble floor. Apple ( and the Historical Society) did a great job of keeping the building looking like a historical part of DC instead of a mall store. Visiting is more of an experience than just a shopping trip. As soon as you approach the front door, you are greeted by an Apple employee. I had a battery issue and was quickly introduced to a coworker who took my information and led me to the Genius Bar. My "Genius" sat down with me and scanned my info from my iPhone. He performed a few tests and checked on solutions for me. I was happy to get a visit right away. The Tyson's Corner Apple store makes you hold just to ask simple questions. If you need an appointment, you usually have to wait more than a week to get one. I had help within minutes and the employee didn't make me feel rushed. I have an older Apple model and a battery was ordered. The employee encouraged me to walk around the building to see the upper and lower levels. The building is beautiful and worth visiting. The exhibits don't take that long to see. The lower level has a gallery of photos that show how the Carnegie used to look. There is an elevator if you don't want to take the stairs. The upper level has wonderful panorama photos thst show DC over time. The Kiplinger library wasn't open yet. The front entrance has giant screens for various presentations. While I was visiting, kids were learning how to make movies. The store has limited inventory but lots of fun items. There are workshops and festivals planned. It is worth checking the Mayor's social media, as well as Carnegie's web site. If you can help it, don't wear heels. The marble floors are hard. Street parking is limited. The Apple store is across the street from the Convention Center. The Mt. Vernon Square/Convention Center metro stop is just a few blocks away. read more

I bought an iPhone 16 in November with a T Mobile trade-in deal. Less than five months later the phone just stops working, black screen, won't power on. No physical or water damage so Apple should accept it on Limited Warranty. A tech named Abdur-Raqeeb took my phone and told me that the Apple Store in Pentagon City could fix it in 90 minutes. Then he left, came back, and told me the store wouldn't take my phone and they would have to send it to an "off-site facility" for at least a week. He told me he would get me a loaner and left again. After more waiting, it was getting pretty late and the tech's shift must have ended because I was passed off to someone else to set up my loaner. However, this person couldn't even authenticate my phone with my provider before 8pm, the store closed, and they kicked me out. I was able to set up the loaner on my own because I'm pretty tech savvy but the whole experience has been a pain from start to finish. The loaner is several years old, which is fine, but it uses a lightning charger, not USB-C, and I wasn't offered one, and since I'm responsible for the loaner, I have to buy a case as well as a charger I won't need in a week... The lesson here is to always buy your iPhone several generations behind so you don't get a defective one, preferably one that has been "refurbished" (fixed) by a third-party electronics vendor. read more

Parking is limited, street parking on nearby street wasn't too difficult to get on a Monday in the middle of the day, and it's $2.75/hour with 2 hour limit. Everyone I worked with took their time with all of my questions about the iPhone choices and transferring my data. (I had a lot of questions because technology isn't my strong suit.) They showed me great new features on the iPhone and weighed the pros and cons of each iPhone choice. While I waited for my data to transfer to my new iPhone, several people checked on me. I also had the opportunity to work with a friendly and knowledgeable employee who was using an ASL translator on an iPad. It was really awesome to see accessibility in real time.
