The book selection is thoughtfully curated, well organized, and unique. I also enjoyed browsing the fun little items, such as pins, bags, and decals, and ended up purchasing some cute cat-themed goodies! The main reason for my visit was to see one of my favorite authors and get a book signed. Since he's a popular author, I arrived over an hour early to get a seat. However, there were still a few seats available along the back and side rows about 20 minutes before the event started. The staff kept adding seats as people arrive too. The event itself was quite crowded, with people seated very close together, but everything was well organized from beginning to end. I appreciate the staff the staff keeping everything running smoothly. We also wanted to try The Den, the café downstairs, but it was closed that evening due to a private event. It looked cozy, so I'd love to check it out on my next visit. I was also lucky enough to find parking in the back lot, which was a nice bonus! Overall, a wonderful experience at a charming local bookstore. I'd love to come back soon, explore more of their selection.

On a Thursday evening it was very easy for me to find parking right up front and pay the meter for an hour. The event started on time and we were able to do a Q&A with the authors (who are now NY best sellers, woot woot). After the Q&A we all stood in line to get our books signed. Everything was well organized so the line went by quickly. Kristely at the front desk was super helpful and also helped me out with a glass of wine. This will definitely be my new hangout spot to come and enjoy a drink while I indulge in a new book or two. Thank you so much Solid State for a memorable experience.

This store makes me feel good about not buying from Amazon, whereas some other bookstores just lecture you about it and don't do anything to make you want to stay and spend money. It does get crowded on weekends. Also, be prepared to overhear lots of 20-somethings talk to each other like they're trying to impress. Just the nature of a certain overeducated segment of DC and the neighborhood.

The service is incredibly helpful and happy to share recommendations. The downstairs kids section is fantastic. I came here with my kids and they were just loving the store with the many bean bags, tunnels, and selection of books. I read several to them and they enjoeyd sitting around the little table and listening to me. There is a comfy couch area, where I sat for a moment and had a moment to just enjoy reading a book uninterrupted. The shop has a nice curated collection that reflects DC politics and travel, along with just some good reads.

On top of that, they're a true community bookstore, giving back by providing free meals to people in need, which I find really admirable. My go-to order is usually an iced coffee (or hot, depending on the day), but I've also had their biscuit with egg, cheese, and bacon a few times. That biscuit is perfectly fluffy, the egg is creamy, and the bacon is on point--so good that I've thought about ordering a side of bacon just to have more. If you're in the area and need a cozy spot to work, this is it. I love that they have plenty of outlets (a rarity!) and even window seating. Great coffee, great food, and a mission worth supporting.
