Nice bookstore with many, many genres and even had a music section (CDs) which caught my attention, being a music type found selections of interest. Worth the stop.

Underneath a busy bookstore is the coffeehouse that is equally as bustling. A wintery Saturday afternoon draws the laptop crowd, families and friends catching up, and me, just reading a book as I waited for the author talk upstairs to start. I was lucky to find a spot to sit as someone was leaving. Then just as I left someone else claimed my table. I sat near the entrance, where there seemed to be a constant flow of people coming in and out. It's a decent place to work or read if you don't mind some chatter and light music in the background. Latte was good. The menu has a good variety of options for breakfast and sandwiches, plus a selection of pastries.

The workers in the kids section was so nice to us. Thank you for being so sweet to my kids too. I love the widest selection of the books and stationaries. I loved their sidewalk sale too. I'd love to try the cafe one day too. :)

Great place to grab a gift, and then relax with a cup of tea!

Just moved to DC and was looking for my local spot, and I found it! Charming local bookstore with great gifts, and best of all a yummy cafe. First day I went in for books, second day for a relaxing lunch break. Can't wait to frequent this spot more.

Amazing mocha! The bun was not as good though. Perfect place to stop by after browsing books... It's a bit cramped but still cozy (8/24/24)

Cute cafe, if you want something to drink and eat while you enjoy your new read!

This is the perfect rainy day to be curled up with a book on your sofa-- esp if it's from Politics and Prose. This store has been around for a long time and I can't believe I have ranted and raved about it before! The staff is super helpful and you have soo many choices of books to look through. They also have puzzles, cards, posters and other cute gift ideas! There is even a little cafe downstairs if you need a little treat! Children's books are downstairs too. Parking around back or street parking in front. Check out this place-- I usually leave with a few books!

I am so glad I was able to stop by here for a coffee before I went back home. This place was super cute and had a chill vibe to it. The barista was very helpful and nice. I deff will be back here. I always love chill vine places!

One of the best book stores in the world. P&P is my happy place, especially the Connecticut Ave location.

Ask the Community - Politics and Prose

Do this bookshop sell books in italian? Someone of you know where to find italian books in Washington DC?

Second Story Books in DuPont Circle has a good selection of non-English language books, I'm pretty sure I've seen a small Italian book section there.

How far is it from the Metro? Within Walking distance?

P&P is a 15 minute walk (north on Connecticut Avenue NW) from the Van Ness metro station on the red line.

    Is it only street parking?

There's actually a parking lot in the back but it's pretty small.

I've been there a bunch of times to get gifts and books, or just to get a quick latte in their café downstairs.

One day, though, we were walking down Wisconsin and I thought it was my opportunity to finally check out the mysterious bookstore. Once inside, friends, you will find all your language needs met. And here's the best part - it's not just a romance language bookstore! I found more Hindi language materials in Tempo than I've ever found in any bookstore in the US. And the person working in the store told me they'd happily order any other Hindi materials I wanted -- amazing! This is a huge plus if you're learning a language where accessing materials can be challenging, or if you want to actually see the materials before buying them. All of this to say, I'm no longer down on Tempo. They are my new go-to place for all things Hindi.

On top of that, they're a true community bookstore, giving back by providing free meals to people in need, which I find really admirable. My go-to order is usually an iced coffee (or hot, depending on the day), but I've also had their biscuit with egg, cheese, and bacon a few times. That biscuit is perfectly fluffy, the egg is creamy, and the bacon is on point--so good that I've thought about ordering a side of bacon just to have more. If you're in the area and need a cozy spot to work, this is it. I love that they have plenty of outlets (a rarity!) and even window seating. Great coffee, great food, and a mission worth supporting.

We both love to read and love bookshops. I love big bookshops, little bookshops, romance bookshops... Lost City Books was a wonderful surprise and immediately became one of my favorite bookshops in DC. Why? It isn't huge, but it makes such good use of its space that I found it to be one of the best stocked independent bookstores I've visited in a long while. I always try to support local independent bookstores when I can, and some of them are tiny (if your neighborhood bookstore is one of the tiny ones, remember they'll probably place orders for you if you want/need something they don't have in stock). But - at the risk of sounding silly - we got lost in time at Lost City Books. We meant to just pop in and quickly pick something to take home. But we wandered through their fiction section and staff picks, pointing out books to each other we loved or have been meaning to read and all of a sudden a half hour had passed and we only really explored one tiny section of the shop. We walked out with four books between us, too. The customer service was friendly to boot. Just a great independent bookshop and another reason to love Adams Morgan.
