OMG! The house made cinnamon raisin bread and the hash are amazing!! However you HAVE to try the bacon! A little salty but the best I have ever had. We asked for it crispy. By far the best spot to get grub anywhere around. The bacon egg and cheese is my favorite I've ever had. Everything is fresh and made to order, couldn't recommend this place enough. Well I was in Brimfield for haircut and mentioned I was going to go to breakfast. Based on a recommendation I stopped at Apple Barn Cafe. The place was had booths in the main part and four tables in the front by the bakery. It is a small location, very typical country decor. I was greeted and seated in the front at one of the tables. I was asked by the server if he could get me something drink while I looked over the menu. I saw a Coke dispenser behind the bakery counter and asked for a coke. I was surprised when I was given a can of Coca Cola and a glass of ice. A quick glance at the menu and saw the Duece right near the top of the front of the menu, highlighted in a red box. The Deuce is two eggs any style, two pancakes, two pieces of meat (I opted for sausage) home fries and toast. I ordered two eggs over medium, sausage, grilled English muffin, home fries (note, I thought it odd the person taking my order asked if I wanted the home fries that came with the meal) and asked what type of syrup. I opted for maple. I ordered an OJ, large. What I was served was disappointing based on the recommendation I had received. The eggs were barely over easy, one was slightly under done. The home fries portion was very small and also under done. Sausage was good, and pancakes were average. I was a bit taken aback by the up charges and the overall cost of a barely average meal. There are many breakfast places in this region, that offer more at a better price. Overall Apple Barn Cafe is the only breakfast place in town and mediocre/ average at best. Some things that could have raised the score of this review- - learn to cook over-medium eggs - cooking quality, potatoes were poorly cooked and the quantity disappointing. - staff should be forthcoming about the up charges. Too be fair these up charges are in the menu, but vaguely referenced. - re-evaluate costs versus portions. $24.25 was much more than the quality and portions. - handwritten bills are prone to calculation errors, which the sales tax is properly calculated. In all likelihood I will not eat here again, and drive to other breakfasts places in the area that have consistently better food at a better value. Sorry to be so harsh, but this was a very disappointing experience. read more

Fantastic hole-in-the-wall diner! Menu covers a host of tastes, everything uses local and fresh ingredients. Sundays they do specials. We were lucky enough to eat on a Sunday, and tried the Oyster Scramble, Lemon Raspberry Ricotta Pancakes, Blueberry Oat Pancakes, Cinnamon Apple Waffles, and Chorizo Eggs Benedict. Stopped for breakfast here before a day of antiquing. Really not much else in the area. We were seated out of order, apologized to, and asked to wait for next available table. No biggie we were not in a rush. Once re-seated we were compensated with a bowl of fruit. That was a nice gesture. Service was slow seemingly because they were repairing wrong orders from other diners. Food was pretty good. Nothing special. Hollandaise could have used seasoning. Hash browns were delicious. Pancakes light and fluffy. We found it odd that if you wanted real maple syrup you had to pay 1.50 extra. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt that my recent visit during Brimfield was not there normal offering-- there were two people working at the counter, but one of them looked at you blankly while you stood there and the other one ignored you while she filled napkins or whatever else it was she was doing. At one point I stood at what I thought was the register line only to have about six people get waited on first before I finally got my untoasted bagel which I was buying so that I could take the interior of the $7 wrap I bought and put it on bread that wasn't soaking wet from the plastic. Not a fan of premade sandwiches, I don't care how much easier it makes things, I'd rather wait ten minutes for someone to put turkey on non-wet bread than wait ten mintues to get someone to wait on my so I can get a wet sandwich that was made four hours earlier and then stuck in a refrigerated case. If I wanted that magical plastic taste added to my lunch I could have just packed a sandwich. The dining area was dirty and sparse, the trash was overflowing and the place had about six other people in it, but the napkin dispenser was full. I won't be back. read more

Stopped in on a co-worker's recommendation while on my way to New Hampshire and liked it so much I stopped in again on the way back. First time customer here! The quaint atmosphere allows for prompt attention from many staff members. The young man who I believe was the host was quite friendly, making sure we were most comfortable. My coffee cup was always full. The specials for the day sounded very delicious. I tried the ricotta, lemon and raspberry pancakes. Very moist and full of flavor; exactly what was promised from the description. There was always a wait to be seated. I'm sure they have their reasoning for not adding more tables. My boyfriend and I have eaten at the Apple Barn multiple times and we absolutely love it. They have the most unique and delicious breakfast options and my boyfriend loves ordering from the Sunday specials. I think my all time favorites have been the eggs Benedict and pumpkin pancakes (those may have been one of the specials, but they always have awesome pancake/waffle options!).
