I have been an Apple enthusiast since the Apple 2C. Previous to purchasing my new MacBook PRO on 4th street in Berkeley, I would have told you that I wouldn't own anything but an Apple, wouldn't even consider it. Well, I've bought my last Apple. I will never again in this life, ever, spend one more dime on anything Apple. Not only was I treated with complete disrespect and rudeness by the sale people but I was confronted with absolute incompetence. Moreover, the product they sold me is a piece of garbage. I feel so sorry for all the people rushing to buy Apple products because they missed it. They missed their chance at experiencing the beauty of an Apple computer, the design, the ingenuity, the sheer elegance of an Apple computer. It was a thing of beauty. The era of the Apple computer is over. And this store is living proof. Enter at your own risk. You have been warned. ( if you want specifics: After spending a hour on the telephone trying to get some minor bugs worked out, I was told I would have to take the computer into the store. This occurred within days of my buying the computer. When I arrived at the store, I was told point blank that they could not be bothered and that I should use their telephone service. An hour and a half later, when I had had enough and calmly explained that I would see them in small claims court, they called someone over who fixed the problems, literally, within two minutes. I had several more equally distressing experiences with this store over the next 10 days or so. During which they screw it up so bad I went over to the Emeryville store and had the whole computer replaced. Over the next few months, I then had the joy of discovering that the computer I had just purchased was a profoundly inferior product as far as hardware and software goes.) read more

I had a very bad experience :( the person helping me was Katherine Wenc and she was being really rude and disrespectful to us. I am not very good with apple products and not only did she expect me to know what she was talking about, but she mocked me and the way I talk. If you're a professional that relies on Apple equipment, their method of appointment-setting and service is insane and inefficient. There is no differentiation between "I don't know how to use iPhoto" and "I have a machine that has a bad stick of ram which is causing exotic boot issues and requires analysis by a technician" - failing to make that service distinction means professional users are forced to abandon entire days of their lives to do something as simple as drop a machine off for service. Service quality at this location has also declined significantly - they no longer will discuss accommodations for professionals. No wonder Apple's professional users are migrating back to Windows. read more

Just easy as pie to get my power adapter replaced and yes it's great to have applecare without burning your pockets. I didn't have appointments so i just walked in and got my stuff in less than ten minutes. Well 4th street is a cool place to walk / cafes plus ample parking behind Peet's coffee in case you want to save some cents. read more

We generally have a good experience except 10/28 Friday around 4 pm. A sales clerk, Patrick, attended us explaining how to trade iPhone 6 to iPhone 7+. Patrick was initially polite for around 5 minutes but then lost interest and became rude. Patrick started to talk over us with no meaning. Then he turned to his colleague and said, "You know my last customer ..." and laughing about his last customer, as if he was blurting out his frustrations about not understanding our questions. His colleague smiled and never asked him to stop talking. It seems that Patrick needs to work on his social skills a lot. We want the Apple store in Berkeley to provide the best services in our community. That's why I am posting this comment. read more

This is a no go place!!!! I ordered a MacBook online to pick up in this location. The manager- Amy was so obnoxious, and rude. She kept interrupting my husband and I, she sounded like a broken record invoking company policy in response to any concerns we had and the confusion created by the rep that the order. Instead of finding ways to resolve the issue, she was painfully escalating the situation. She made me feel as though I was a criminal trying to still a computer "that I already paid for". Wow! I honestly don't understand all the negative reviews here! I have had nothing but wonderful service at this location and though it can be difficult at times to park on 4th Street it's not their fault. Whenever I've had a problem with either my iPhone or iPad (rare I must say) I've made an appointment on-line (no, I don't call them), gone in at the appointed time, been helped efficiently and respectfully by the staff and left without issue. Sorry to say, but yet another negative experience with this store. I tried calling the store (the number is on the internet), but was transferred to some other part of Apple. After explaining the situation, they then transferred me to the store. The store refused to help me set up an appointment with them on their website! Honestly the people that work here, especially the dudes, are so chill and honest when working with you. I came in a met a group of guys working there that were just genuine, outgoing people that tried their best to help me and was checked up on by workers just walking by while they were helping other customers. Shoutout to Patrick, Steve, and Chad, as well as many others, that helped me fix my phone as well as provide me with an outmost positive customer experience. Lucy Basta is a breath of fresh air. She helped me upgrade to the Iphone 6 and made the visit to the busy store pleasant, fun, and memorable. I thought large companies had become neglectful of good customer service until I came into contact with her. I had a horrible case of poison oak(she was not aware), and I was not in the best mood when I walked in the store. She made me laugh while going through the upgrade process as efficiently as possible. She has a positive energy and an authentic way about her. She then followed up with a nice email and helped secure a Iphone car charger for pick up. I'm happy to have her as my business consultant. Give that girl a raise for god sake! read more

There was a long line for the genius bar, even if you had an appointment, but their service was phenomenal. I can't believe this, Apple is not what it used to be. Before I always had a great experience in the Apple Store. Unfortunately my iMac stopped working a few days ago and I thought it would be no problem because normally the Apple Store is really good with taking care of their customers. Well that was before. So I schedule an appointment to have my iMac fixed. My boyfriend and I brought our iMac in and right away we could clearly tell that the people were not happy to help. I remember in the old days of the Apple Store The employees working there really loved Apple and it showed. When we came back to pick up our iMac first of all they didn't even know who we were because when we told them we were there to pick it up they couldn't find us in the system. The real problem started when I got my computer home I noticed when I turn my iMac on that there was a small crack in the screen. I called the Berkeley store and no one answered I was transferred to an Ohio office where they were rather friendly however when they tried to contact the people in the Berkley store no answer they told me they would call back (they didn't) I called them back and they couldn't get help on the line again so that was that I had to go back. to the Apple Store and oh boy did it get worse. They looked at me like I was crazy when I told them that there was a chip in the screen. It seemed like they thought it was no big deal and they couldn't believe I brought it back. Apple is known for attention to detail they make really great product but these people didn't have that type of mentality at all it was not an unnoticeable chip either. If I worked at the Apple Store and someone came in with this problem I would understand because I take care of my iMac. But what's more if it was my fault! I swear they did not apologize once, they looked at us like we were crazy, and they made us stand for 15 minutes taking pictures and wiping the computer as if we are going to try to claim they did something again. I'm sure that's what they were doing because they specifically mentioned that they took pictures so don't try to claim any more. Rude. Humiliating, We had to wait another three days to get our iMac back and this time when we came back in large writing it said "Dont touch me I'm SENSITIVE!" I felt like crap. The rude guy claimed to be the repair manager btw. Sad. I think Tim Cook is bad for apple. They fired the old manager of retail and now their stores have lost their magic. read more

I bought a 6th generation ipad. The gentleman helping me walked through the start up and getting my passwords reset. Did not really test his knowledge too much about what the machine could do, but the customer service aspect of the interaction was first rate. I would give 0 stars if I could. I walked into the 4th street Apple Store and stood at the entrance for 10 minutes, and was ignored the whole time. I then started to walk around to look at iPhones. A white man then walked in, and immediately a staff named Stefanie walked to him to check him in. Did I mention I'm a Black woman. After he was checked in, I stood next to Stefanie and she finally acknowledged me and checked me in at 6:27 pm. I sat in the Apple store until 7:55 pm, when someone finally asked if I needed help. Apparently a woman name Anajah had checked me in and then finished her shift. I never met Anajha. I was then told that I had 5 minutes to shop for a $1,500 phone. I can not think of one time I have been to the 4th shops and had a pleasant experience.... Without everyone letting me know how much they did not want to serve me because I am Black. Once a woman told me a jacket was too expensive for me to buy, and another time a woman working at the M.A.C makeup store insinuated that I stole something that I wanted to return. She couldn't find my receipt in the system, and it never dawned on her that I bought the item on line. I am a business in Berkeley and have served the community for over 11 years. I pains me that I even have to qualify my worthiness to not be treated like this. My laptop stopped working last night and I was there when they opened the next morning. I wasn't able to make an appointment in advance so I took my chances and brought a book in preparation for waiting. This was my first visit this Apple location and I have to say I am SUPER impressed with and grateful for the service they provide. They have a wheelchair accessible table that I utilized and very cool employees that didn't act weird about me being in a wheelchair, at all. THANK YOU: William, Valerie, Leo and everyone at the Apple Store on 4th Street in Berkeley, CA!!! Not only did they fix my problem, they kept me informed and educated as well. Read the other 1 star reviews about this place. I can say with absolute confidence that this is 100% the worst Apple Store in the entire Bay Area. It really seems like they hire anybody regardless of experience or knowledge. I came in here for the second time because I cracked my Apple Watch screen...last time they told me that they could fix it no problem but unfortunately the wait was too long so I had to leave...today I came back and was told that they don't actually fix them they replace the whole screen and they don't do it in store they send it out and it takes 5 to 7 days to even come back to the store for you to be able to pick it up. What.!? I agreed even though this is not what I was previously told...they told me I would receive a text message in 15 to 20 minutes telling me to come back into the store. 45 minutes later I had not received a text so I went back into the store and was told my appointment was for 1255...40 minutes MORE on top of what I had already waited...which is not with the person told me when I had first come in. So again I left not having my issue resolved. This place is an absolute circus I will never come back to the store. It's chaotic...loud and the people working there have absolutely no idea what they are doing. I see why this place gets robbed so often...the workers don't have a clue what's going on. read more

As my fellow yelper Rinky pointed out, I'm a brave soul. I ventured into the wonderland that is 4th street, where the trees are green and the people are of a lighter hue, to check out this Apple location on opening weekend. And I'm still alive!! Although my 4th street fear is a little different than my fears of having to go into the iron triangle, I sometimes feel as if a little part of me dies every time I come here. I can't explain it. I don't know what it is; probably has something to do with the over-priced-everything that people seem to have no problem spending their hard earned (?) money on and me, well, I'm hella broke. I work AmeriCorps. You *know* I'm broke. So when I heard Apple was coming to 4th street I thought 2 things: 1. Apple will fit in perfectly here. 2. For the love of God, please, please, please don't be as snooty as the bay street store!! And it isn't!! Yet. Not to be a negative Nancy but come on. It's 4th street. Only time will tell. But I had a really pleasant experience here this weekend and will probably be back sooner than I need to be. The staff is incredibly diverse. They're smiling. The store is probably 2.5 times as big as Bay Street and it's clean, probably will stay clean for a long time, and the lay out just makes sense. iPads are docked next to the different lines of macbooks (airs and pros with their respective 11", 13.3", 15", 17" models) with information about the systems that you're looking at. And the iPad has a button to call a sales person over to answer any other questions you might have. Awesome! And yes, I'm an Apple fan. Not a super crazy one, I just, you know, refuse to use anything PC (: But as I write this non bias review (ha) I continue on to say that this store makes sense to me so far. The genius was helpful in trying to fix a problem my brother was having and she knew what she was doing. A far, far reach from what the bay street store has to offer. So I hope that this location thrives, and I'm pretty sure it will; and I really hope the staff remains as excited and nice as they were today! Now that this one is here, I probably wont ever have to step foot into the Emeryville location; and that alone makes me one happy girl. read more

LOL, this place is a joke. The customer service completely sucks. I went in for an appointment I had made online, thinking that I had booked it at the Emeryville store, but for some weird and strange reason, it had been scheduled for 4th st. I show up about 20min late (driving from Emeryville - to 4th street at 4pm traffic is pretty insane) So I show up and I let them know about my situation and the rep tells me that he'll try and help me but that I need to check in with the woman in charge of the schedule. Also, this is where it gets ridiculous. The rep who was helping me, calls over the walkie talkie to let her know that I'm coming over, she continues to ignore us and keeps on walking the opposite direction. He then pages another rep on the floor to let him know that we're trying to get a hold of her (he thinks her mic wasn't working) and when the other rep informs her she continues to walk away. At this point, the rep tells me to go over and talk to her, so I go, and her attitude is so foul. She tells me that she can't help me because they're full (there were like 10 people there) and that I missed my appointment, even after telling her what happened and on top of that, during my drive I was on the phone with customer service trying to get a hold of the store line so I could let them know that I was going to be a bit late. She decides to rebook me for a week later and tells me that unfortunately there's nothing they can do and that I'm going to have to pay $850 worth of damages (water spilled on the comp) without even actually looking at the comp. She then tells me that she's in a rush because she has to leave the floor. Which explains everything, no wonder she was ignoring me when I first came in, which is pretty ridiculous because of 1. You work in customer service; it is your job to work with customers 2. If you don't want to help people or do your job and go on your break, then fucking quit, no one is forcing you to be there. People don't need to deal with shitty, dismissive attitude, esp if I'm not even giving it to someone in the first place. The following day I make a walk-in appointment to the Emeryville st store and let me tell you, it took them 10min to access the situation and to give me advice on what to do, which is hilarious because Emeryville is much more packed with customers than the 4th St. one. If the rep from 4th st had taken the time to do her job and provide customer service, then I wouldn't be here writing them a shitty review. read more

She had a ton of people at her table to help and she remained sweet and calm while competently helping all of us and not letting any of us feel ignored. She's my favorite kind of genius! In this shiny Apple store the blue-shirts clearly outnumber the common folks. I approached one of the blue shirts for help, but as soon as I was within 2 feet he pulled out his phone and mimed unavailability. A bit later, the next blue shirt had no time either because she was busy with entertaining herself on one of the devices, and another blue shirt joined in. After cruising the isles a bit I found that you could press a "need help" button on the devices and I was happy to read that I was the first in line. For good measure I pressed the button also on the device right next to it. Nothing happened, though, nobody seemed to care. My iphone froze so I went to the 4th street Apple store. I got there at 5:30pm and I was told they could not help me because they close at 6pm today and that I'd have to wait until tomorrow. There were a bunch of employees (at least 5) doing NOTHING but chatting, arms crossed, so I guess instead of "Geniuses" they should be called "Lazy Asses". I can say that I come here for only two reasons: 1. Proximity to my home. 2. Anyone else who works there EXCEPT Mateo. Seriously. Mateo makes me want to give up on all of existing technology, learn to code and engineer my own hardware so that I never have to chance interacting with another uncooperative and condescending sentient being like him ever. Ever. This is not to say that everyone else there isn't helpful. In my second visit to that Apple store Trevor (I think that was his name, it's been a few months) was fantastic. He helped me through figuring out what Mateo had done to my laptop (in my first visit the day before) that was not at all a standard procedure (according to Trevor). Yesterday my wife and I came into the store because of a cracked iPhone screen (let's consider this visit number six). The phone was working fine, the screen was cracked. That was the only problem. We got checked in and had about a half hour wait (our fault, we didn't have an appointment). When our name comes up Jess at the Genius Bar was great! I felt like we were being taken care of and felt that our decision and concerns mattered. It felt like I was being treated as an equal. Thank you Jess! So we had a problem. We agreed to have the screen changed in store yesterday. We wait. I am later given a call from Mateo, probably an hour later, explaining that since the cracked screen was installed by a third party purveyor Apple will not change out the screen. Frustrated from our wait I say it's fine. We are still in the store, can we just have the phone back so that we can go elsewhere for repairs? I am then given another explanation by Mateo why we can't get it fixed at the Apple Store. I am lost as to what any if that has to do with bringing my wife's phone back after I had requested. I understand the concept of why Apple won't repair it, I don't really need to hear it again as a response to a different question. I'm not an idiot. "That's fine. Just walk it on over to us. We are still in the store." Mateo said he'll send it down to Jess so that she can explain more to us...explain WHAT?!?!?!? We wait for 15 minutes and I ask another Apple Store Employess, Case, if he could find out the status of the phone being brought back up to the front of the store. Case, I must say, was very courteous. There was not one minute where the guy wasn't surrounded by at least three parties of new customers, but fifteen minutes after he checked on the status of our phone he radioed in to ask where our phone is without us prompting him. Case even checked in on us a few times. We had a 40 minute wait from Mateo's phone call to receiving our phone. Mateo himself walked it down and didn't even apologize for the ridiculously long wait! How many stairs are there from the "upstairs" service area to the sales floor?!?!? The dude didn't seem winded to me. An apology would have been appropriate. But I got nothing. Well, worse than nothing because... I'm furious and we leave for home. My wife goes to turn on her phone to check her messages and the display won't turn on. At this point we had already spent no less than three hours waiting at the Apple Store on 4th Street. We did not want to return and ruin the rest of our day. So my wife spent hours on the phone this morning with Rick at the Dallas Apple Call Center trying troubleshoot what went wrong. Rick was an absolute delight and was on our side. He wanted to make sure we got taken care of and was so warm and helpful. Unfortunately it came down to having to go back to the Apple Store in Berkeley. My wife has now spent an hour at the store and has been told that the third party screen is still cause for them to do nothing to help. They can't restore her phone to being functional with a cracked screen like it was before we visited yesterday. They won't do it. One star to this place only because of the helpful people like Jess, Case, Trevor (forgive me of that isn't your actual name), and even Rick in the Dallas Call Center. They make me feel like they care about taking care of the customer. They are the only reason I am not suggesting a zero star review. I have consistently gotten bad service and felt insulted and condescended to when working with Mateo. That was not my first interaction with him and the guy does not want to hear what I have to say. I would sooner take mass transit to the Emeryville store or even into San Francisco in order to avoid working with Mateo ever again. Perhaps I can just request "anyone but Mateo." read more

WORST APPLE STORE EVER. Seriously. I walked in and started grabbing what I came for, headphones, keyboard, trackpad...and hoping for my new mini. Walked up to a sales guy and asked him some questions about hooking up the mini and networking my existing laptop for my outdoor theater project. Sales guy said he needs some back up. So he grabs this girl with long multiple-bad-home-dye hair and with enormous dangling hoop earrings playing air traffic controller to put me on a list. Thirty minutes later, after watching people just walk up to sales people and get helped, I'm still standing there with my arms full of peripheral equipment waiting for someone to let me give them a bunch of my cash. On my third check-in the girl with the huge earrings looks so surprised that I haven't been helped and she'll get someone "right away". Five minutes later I walked up to her and handed her all the items I had in my arms and walked out of the store. Frustrated by the lack of customer service I called the main store number after I left and asked to speak to the manager about my frustration. The person puts me on hold, then comes back and says the manager can't come to the phone but she can take a message. Really!?! Wow. This is the worst customer experience I've ever had in an apple store. They are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel with the staff at this location. I've been in this store several times and have always been treated well even though the store is always busy. I still wish I didn't have to go there, though and I wouldn't if I got decent customer service on the phone. I went recently and the only reason I went was because I couldn't make an appointment when I called. A CSR refused to give me an appointment because I didn't have the serial number of my product with me when I called, then when I had the serial number with me, I was told no appointments were available. Do not get your Mac repaired here. Said they would take 1 or 2 days to replace one key on the keyboard. A week later, with no updates since in mean time, they tell me it will be another 2 days to replace the entire keyboard. Person I spoke with had no clue what's going on.
