Ok, if I could give this place a 3+ star I would but it was closer to a 3. This place was not what I was expecting. There are so many pictures of so many different types of rooms, I had no idea we would end up with what we did. It was an odd place with a lot of nice touches. We had a room facing other rooms on the first floor. The room was tiny. It did have everything we needed, but it was not what I was expecting. I was under the impression all the rooms had a bit of a view. we had no view of anything other than the rooms across the way. We were on the first floor and could hear every single footstep of the people above us. We got in the tub in our room, which was lovely, until the cap of the thing that lets the water out fell off and there was mildew/mold all over it. It was disgusting. The bath salts were a nice touch, but after seeing that mold/mildew stuff that is very easy to clean off, it mad me get out. The bed was INCREDIBLY uncomfortable. Neither of us slept well and while there were a million pillows on the bed for two people, they were all lumpy. There were no extra blankets in the closet, which would have been nice in the middle of the night, as there is only a sheet and light blanket on the bed and I like to cuddle up in more blanket than my partner. There is not much to move in the tiny room we were in. and if you are sharing it with a friend (not a romantic partner) you may have to leave the room while they shower as the shower is in the tub which is in the room so there isn't much privacy and the toilet room is also tiny. They definitely use the space on the property well, but it seems like there are way too many rooms for the small amount of parking they have. We may or may not stay there again, but we would definitely ask for another room. read more

If a view is non negotiable, just give them a call. The staff I interacted with were all incredibly kind and helpful. We had such a great stay! We got the two bedroom suite with two king beds and it was awesome. The view was beautiful, the interior was really nice, and the huge jetted tub was definitely a highlight. The pool was great too, and everyone on the staff was so welcoming and friendly. The free breakfast the next morning was a perfect way to end our trip. We had so much fun and definitely wished we had stayed more than one night. Super family friendly, and we will definitely be back! read more

What a cute little quaint place... We came up here with our kids and our grandkids to enjoy the Estes Park holiday parade after Thanksgiving... There's an indoor pool, there's a hot tub, our rooms are really nice. We have a kitchenette in our two bedroom chalet... And then our kids were in the apartment, which worked really nice for all the grandkids to spend time together... check-in was really easy. Great stay for the price. Check in was reasonably fast and staff friendly and informative. We stayed for two days in the "C" building, a site off to the side from the rest of the complex. Room was clean and nicely supplied with lots of towels, toiletries, teas and coffees. Continental breakfast was better than most. Been coming here for years and they lost us in one trip. This is a very quaint and cozy place to stay, and it has always been our favorite place to stay here in Estes Park. Located walking distance from town and the lake running trail is a stone throws away. This trip however there have been two inexcusable incidents that cannot be looked past: 1) the maid dropped my brand new MacBook Pro and ruined the speakers. 2) We left at 0800 in the morning for a hike and returned 1300, and they had left yogurt, milk, and eggs out. When we left for dinner at 1630 they were still there in the sunlight fermenting away. When we informed the front desk they assured us that it was just there for a short while... We will be staying elsewhere on all future trips. read more

The staff here are some of the most genuine, sweet, and thoughtful individuals I've ever met at an inn! Huge shoutout to them! The breakfast here is decent. Bagels and various cream cheeses, peanut butter, toast, milk and cereal, hard boiled eggs, and waffles. NO scrambled eggs, which was unexpected but fine. Breakfast runs 6-10am so it's doable for early trips to RMNP. Very close to RMNP entrance! Water filling stations are a plus, rooms are SUPER spacious, and overall a very cozy and wonderful stay. read more

So upon arriving at this lodge in Estes park, I have to say it has the cutest architecture for the buildings for the whole place. I just absolutely love it! When we first pulled in around 630pm to check in at the bottom of the check in office, was a cute quaint spot w some relaxing red wooden chairs and in the middle they had a fire pit and fire going. They give out complimentary s'mores for guest to roast over that fire. The check in process was super quick and smooth. The front desk person was super sweet and so helpful! Inside the office has a bunch of seating and a nice sized area for a continental breakfast, which I must add isn't to bad. It's offered between 6am to 10am. The types of food they offer was 3 or 4 different healthy cereals, oatmeal, regular and flavored oatmeal, fresh make your own waffles, bagels, breads, hard boil eggs, juices and so much more. Then we checked into our room. Which was absolutely just the cutest. It was of coursed decked out in mountain decor which I just love. The room number we stayed in was bottom floor room 13 which opened up to a little court yard w seating and whatever wild life that wants to entertain you. Anyways back to the room, lol, the room had a jacuzzi bath tub w a built in shower in it in case you want to shower instead of take a nice relaxing bubbly bath. W the jacuzzi they also have bath salts for your enjoyment while you relax. The bed we had was a king size and lord there was so many pillows and I loved loved it!! Most hotels give you a standard 4 this one gave us 8 and I was smitten. Yes little things make me happy. In the room was also a gas fireplace which was nice because at night i September you're gonna absolutely need to turn that bad boy on. There was a couch and tv also in the room. The bathroom was a decent size. The toiletries that were in the room were bath and body works products which I just love and was a little bit impressed lol. There was tons of parking, a outside jacuzzi and and inside pool. Neither we used but did go check it out. This place was worth every penny and would definitely come back and recommend this place! Let me tell you. This place was amazing. The desk staff were really friendly and *bonus* the pool was open which is hard to find during covid. The rooms were spotless and the Murphy bed was really cool. The shower was huge too. The price was a little steep but it's tourist season and it's time to make money. I'm sure you're asking yourself if the stay was that great then why the 4 stars. I drive a Mazda 5 and they don't have a ton of clearance. Stayed here for a couple days after Christmas with my husband. We had a basic room- double and (Murphy) twin beds. For the price, it was just fine. My only complaints were: -The walls: you can hear the thoughts of all your neighbors. Bring earplugs and a sound machine. A loud one. -The mattress was very mediocre. Way too firm for me. Otherwise, the furnishings were nice and there was enough room to store our own food and bulky clothing. The shower was plain, but delivered on heat and pressure. My husband enjoyed the hot tub, but I did not partake, so I can't speak to it. We don't look for fancy, just clean and comfortable overnight since we like to hike during the day. this was worst nightmare. we stayed from the 9-12 of June. 2025. Night one, o woke up with my pillows untucked because they tuck in the pillow cases cause the pillows are smaller. I woke up to find blood all over the pillow case. the part that was tucked in. I was appalled. I threw it on the floor hoping the maid who came to clean would fix it. night 2 got in bed went through all pillows and the blood was still there. I took the pillows. to the hotel desk to complain. she was very apologetic, and brought us brand new pillows, again very appologetic. told us the manager would get a hold of us in the am. he did saying well I'll give you 20% off the room. after I slept with my face on someone else's blood, I get 20%. I did take pic and will be contacting a lawyer and my dr as well. would stay clear of this place. just gross! read more

What I liked: -Location (super close to town and the Rocky) -Fireplace -In-room jet tub -Friendly staff Not so much: -Going back to your home away from home should not be stressful. I feel like there are way more guest rooms than there are parking spaces. We almost parked in the "do not park" in front at the check-in office because there was no where else to park. Someone just happened to pull out. -Went in to room for first time with soiled gloves in sink. -Used towel from previous guest hanging on bathroom door. I didn't know and put my towel over it to find out it wasn't my fiancée. -Told front desk about towel issue and staff brought us new towels, while leaving the soiled ones (from previous guests). -Took a fresh towel and there was something crusted in it. -Fridge side shelf broken, so we could hold about 6 less water bottles. -I like firmer beds, but this one was pretty rough... waking up to back and neck pains...but it could have been from all the hiking. However, I haven't felt like this before from other hikes on the same trail staying at different places. If mattress is super important to you, this may not be your spot. I can overlook the mattress, but not the dirty gloves and especially towels AND not removing them from the room even after we said something. read more

I am so happy I found this place! I read reviews and decided to book it. I came for a wedding in Estes Park and this place is super affordable and nice. The staff is amazing and helpful. Breakfast in included, as well as s'mores in the evening. My room was very nice and comfy. Great location! About a mile from the downtown area and places like The Stanley Hotel. Easy to walk into town and there is also a shuttle stop right by the hotel (the Blue line) that will easily take you places too. I would definitely stay here again. read more

This place is a little older, but it's where we stay every time we visit Estes Park. Rooms are clean and well equipped, most with great views. Nightly campfire and s'mores, although you may have to let the front desk know you are interested as if no one is there it isn't "automatic". Pool is clean and seldom crowded (we hit the pool with the kids 5 times in 4 nights and 4/5 we were the only ones there). They have grills built in to the desk which is nice if you want to save some $$$ and "eat in". 3 minutes drive in to town, and about 10 minutes to Rocky Mountain National entrance. The breakfast is continental, but decent. Free popcorn, movies to check out, and board games. This isn't a "5 star hotel" by any means, but assuming you aren't looking to stay in your room 24/7, it's awesome for what it is. read more

With my past experience in rustic, older, cabin-esque lodging accommodations, my expectations for the Appenzell Inn were positive and mediocre. We came for Labor Day Weekend and with the busy-ness of the last holiday in Summer, pickings were slim when it came to hotel vacancies. In hindsight, I'm so glad I waited to find a place to stay and in my research, I'm so glad we snagged one of the last available rooms here because my expectations were highly surpassed and I am recommending this lodge to anyone visiting Estes Park! The location is a little up the hill/main road and about a 2 min drive from Downtown and the Visitor's Center. It's also very close to the lake entrance, grocery store, and even the Catholic Church. The turn in takes you by surprised but when you arrived you're in the middle of a little village of buildings. This place does have it's rustic charm and it's definitely not the newest hotel but its upkeep and maintenance kept us comfortable and enjoying our stay. Customer service and check in were great. Appreciated the restaurant/to do suggestions made on the map by the guys who checked us in. Their breakfast bar is a nice touch with good continental breakfast selections from cereal to bagels to boiled eggs. They also provide yummy snacks throughout the day like granola bars, cookie packs, popcorn, and smores at night! We had the Garten Cozy as our room and it was perfect for me and my husband. The WiFi worked great. The bath tub was amazing and I enjoyed it with my bath bombs! I also appreciate the refrigerator to keep our water and trail hike provisions stored. I can't wait to come back in the winter and get all warmed up and cozy by the fireplace! They provide outside seating, a grill and a deck if you want to enjoy meals outdoors. P.S. On our walk up to our room, we walked by a sweet older couple, who I am assuming were proprietors? Anyhow, they were very welcoming and looked like the epitome of relaxation life in the mountains! read more

This hotel is family friendly.  So family friendly that we left early at our own expense because management refused to enforce any noise or behavior rules prior to quiet hours at 10 pm. The family above us had three small children running, jumping, screaming, and presumably knocking over furniture, to the point that our walls were shaking, continuously between 5 and 730pm on our last night. We spoke to the family and the front desk to no resolution. They never came to our room to understand the disturbance, and never talked to the other guests to our knowledge.   We understand there's an amount of noise expected with hotel stays. Creaky floors and temper-tantrums happen.  But this was the equivalent of an upstairs neighbor moving, or as my spouse said, a Chuck E. Cheese above us. We were extremely offended that another paying party was given the privilege to be disrespectful to the point of making the unit unusable to us, when we were also paying customers.  The refusal of management to make any attempt at mitigation and privilege one paying customer over another was wildly unprofessional, particularly when we had been there two nights without any complaints, and according to management the offending party was on their first night. Due to booking through a 3rd party, we contacted them directly and they indicated hotel management would refund only 50% of the final night.  The real bummer here is every struggling small business we planned to visit on our final day lost all of those sales. Other cons: 1. Generally poorly insulated floors.  We had the same constant noise of someone running above us without the wall shaking throughout our 1st & 2nd nights.  We did not complain about the first two nights. The jetted tubs also create noise, and we heard conversations through the heating/cooling unit. 2. A pervasive strange smell in the back half of the room; sort of like dentist office smell and...mold? astringent? We changed sides of the bed and used scented bath products to try to cover it up.  3. Shakey covid protocols.  Masks were required and reception had a plexiglass shield. The continental breakfast had shared utensils, cups, and lids, creamer pumps/bottles, and the toaster smack in the middle of everything making it hard to nip in & out quickly.  They did have gloves and sanitizer available. 4. The "continental breakfast" is bagels,  yogurt, hardboiled eggs, cereal, and prepackaged pastries. Not a fresh fruit in sight at $140/night.  5. Parking.  We literally had to circle the property and wait for someone to leave the last afternoon. 6. Snow and ice. We were in an outdoor-opening room and there was only a very narrow strip of deck clear in front of the doors under a dripping overhang. No evidence of effort to shovel or salt at all. We both almost slipped repeatedly, and by the second day a substantial portion of the deck was ice. We sacrificed a bath towel to avoid falling on the super slick entry. The outside stairs to the room had only foot sized semi-clear spaces and were otherwise covered in snow or slush. It was also hard to see parking spaces leading to not enough spaces. We were both exhausted from poor sleep the 1st and 2nd night after waiting for the neighbors to be quiet.  Mattresses are extremely firm. High winds blew loudly through the fireplace chimney, the heating unit is noisy, and the base flame in the fireplace is very bright. The pros: 1. Linens and towels were clean and soft.  2. Bath & body works amenities are actually very good quality.  Front desk was courteous with extras. They also include bath salts for the jetted tubs.  3. The jetted tub was lovely and the thing we were most upset about not being able to enjoy our last night, especially since we paid extra for a room with one and specifically selected this property for their availability. 4. The mini-kitchen was impressive with full sets of cookware, dinnerware,  and cutlery plus a few appliances AND dishwasher. I did have reservations as to whether everything was sanitized between customers. 5. The room stayed warm, and there were extra blankets in the closet.  6. The property is walking distance to downtown in good weather, for adults (20-25 mins). Getting in and out of the icy, steep driveway on foot is a little treacherous. All in all,  best suited for large inconsiderate families and the deaf.  The suites lend themselves to small parties before 10p when rules don't apply, with the jetted tub, extra couch, and miniature bar complete with barstools. I only wish I was a big enough jerk, instead of an exhausted essential worker, to have exploited these loopholes and gotten my money's worth.  TL;DR Hotel management refused to deal with unreasonably disruptive patrons prior to quiet hours and also refused a full refund for ruined last night of stay. We left at our own expense.  20/10 absolutely never again. read more

My fiance and I booked a last second stay through Expedia in one of the romantic suites. The decor was a little outdated but overall we loved our stay. Dillon at the front desk was awesome and all of the staff were friendly and helpful. They had two burners you could setup along with pots, pans, plates, silverware and a full size fridge next to a dishwasher and a microwave. Our favorite aspect was the heart shaped jacuzzi tub for two in the living room and the balcony. It was also cool that they had cable in both rooms and a futon if we had another couple or kids. I also liked the snacks and breakfast stuff at the front desk and the smores and campfire at night. read more

We booked our room online and didn't realize exactly how small it would be. There were 3 of us, so the murphy bed was used. However, they put a big sofa chair in the room too. With the murphy bed pulled down and the big sofa chair in the room, there was literally NO extra room. We were stuffing our luggage in every crevasse of the room, including the bathroom. It was such a tight fit! Then, the boiler apparently went out, so we had no hot water for showers. It wasn't until I called that morning and complained and they said no one else had said anything, but they would fix it right away. Hot water was back in about 30 min. They said it happens about 2x a year. Apparently it had went out the night before...I don't know how people were ok with taking cold showers (or maybe they just weren't showering at all). They have a continental breakfast, but it's not hot. You have to microwave anything that you want to be warm. It's just oatmeal, yogurt, muffins, fruit, pre-packaged waffles, hard boiled eggs, etc. They have a fire pit each night and provide s'mores. There is an indoor pool with outdoor hot tub, patio with grills, and popcorn machine with movie selection. They are about 10-15 in from RMNP entrance and right outside Estes Park main area. Convenient, comfortable beds and nice staff. read more

Overall this is definitely a get what you pay for place. We had a king suite with inroom hottub and fireplace: Pro: very cheap, close to everything including RMNP entrance, microwave and mini fridge in room, snacks available in lobby, water filter system you can use anytime, juice and breakfast spread for on the go was plentiful with cereal, boiled eggs, pastries and other varieties, and lastly staff was kind and welcoming. Con: the bed is very firm - too firm. This is relative I know but it was just flat out uncomfortable for us. Also walls are thin, thankfully our neighbors were not noisy but you can hear toilets flushing and people walking. However, the biggest reason for 3 star was the temp of the room. We were here in dec and yes it was cold outside but it was so hot in the room we had to open our window. We even noticed our neighbors opened their window. We had to actually turn on the AC and never got to use our fireplace bc of how hot it was. We also limited our tub/shower time to not make the room even warmer. Overall if you are staying just a couple days and don't mind a firm matress this is a cheap place that will fullfill any needs to explore estes and RMNP. read more

I came to this place not long ago and I realize just how much of a Colorado inn guy I've become. Due to the nature of my job I've had to travel a lot and all the while I've found myself to be more comfortable at places like the Appenzell. I suppose it's the fact that it's not so grandiose and out there in flashiness but instead has this cool vibe and it is not hard at all to feel very much at home especially with the awesome staff here doing their best to make sure you enjoy your stay as much as you can. The room are also very nice. Definitely one of the better ones I've been in, perfectly sized and well decorated. read more

Amazing place to stay! We had a great time the room was clean and cozy. Plenty of space for our little family. They even provided a pack and play for our daughter. It's located in a quite area and you can't hear your neighbors which is a huge plus! We slept in past the free breakfast each day so I can't speak to that but they do also have s'mores each night which makes for a sweet treat! So this is my first ever yelp review. I never write these things but felt I needed to write one for Appenzell Inn. We needed a weekend getaway so I booked on Thursday for Saturday. We arrive n was just so amazed at the beautiful buildings n ground. Walk in to the office n the charm just kept coming. The guy at the counter, full of Aloha n just so sweet. Wish I got his name ‍ But he was amazing. We get to our room, and omg it was GORGEOUS! Immaculate n well kept and just so charming. Everything was perfect right down to the toiletries. Bath and body works lotion, shampoo, and conditioner and Aveda soap. We slept like babies falling asleep watching cable with GOOD channels and soft clean sheets that smelled like they were freshly laundered! We've stayed at countless hotels and we've honestly never felt so fresh, clean and comfortable than we did here! Felt like a 5 star resort! This hotel exceeded my expectations for sure. My wife and I booked a night here to celebrate Valentines Day with a weekend getaway to Estes Park. The room we booked had everything we needed and then some. It had a full kitchenette with a nearly full size fridge, microwave, sink, dishwasher, electric burner, and cabinets stocked full of glassware, dishes, and cooking essentials (utensils, pots, pans, etc). We definitely weren't expecting that, but it came in handy when we decided to stay in and cook dinner instead of going out. Other perks of the room worth mentioning include the gas fireplace, in room jet-tub, privacy curtains, walk-out balcony with mountain views, and comfy bed with an abundance of pillows. They really went the extra mile to make sure their guests have everything they need. The location was great too, only 10 mins from the Rocky Mountain National Park visitor center, and 5 mins from "downtown" Estes Park. The parking situation was a bit scarce, but we were still able to find parking on side without any issues. Would definitely recommend this place to friends and family traveling in the area. read more

I've been coming to Estes park for several years now and have made it a point to never stay at the same place twice so that each vacation is unique. That all changed after my last stay at Appenzell Inn. What a phenomenal hotel! Awesome room! Very clean! Great views! Super kind and hospitable staff! My friends and I rent the suite for our getaway. The suite had a huge living room, kitchen and dining room. There were plenty of beds (1 queen, 1 king, 3 bunk beds and 2 futons). There's also a hot tub that was pretty nice to visit, even in the winter. The check in has a typical continental breakfast. They also have classic movies and board games that you can rent while you stay there. Definitely a perfect getaway place for your family and friends. read more

There is some good and some bad at this hotel - in no particular order (note that we stayed nearly a week): 1. Front desk staff is friendly, although not very proactive to get things done (i.e . start the nightly campfire, refill coffee in the morning) and does not initiate conversation. They are often glued to the computer screen unless spoken to first. 2. Hot water in the breakfast area was never really hot. 3. There are some nice complimentary touches - smores most nights, popcorn, laundry detergent/softener. 4. Better-than-average soap/shampoo/conditioner/lotion. 5. Beds are firm - not a problem for us. 6. Here is the biggest negative and the reason that we will not stay here again- it is LOUD! There must be no insulation between rooms or floors. We could hear everyone talking in adjacent rooms and we could hear every step - literally - from the people upstairs. Every drawer opening. Every knock on the door. They weren't necessarily loud - just normal living - and it was like they were in the room with us. We were woken up every night as they would come home late. 7. The AC is strange......didn't pull moisture from the room - everything (i.e . clothes, papers) stayed damp. Even things that entered dry became damp soon enough. Too bad, because this is a cute place with a lot of good qualities, but the loudness is a deal-breaker. read more

This place is a hidden gem, from a price stand point staying here was actually cheaper then most of the places in town. When I travel for work to towns I have never been in before I generally only spend one night at each hotel, that way if I return with family I know where the good spots are. I should have stayed here every night of my visit, it was the cheapest of the spots I stayed and the best. I checked in late at night, and was given a room with a king size bed, fireplace, and hot tub. The room was comfortable as was the bed. The restaurant wasn't open so I can't speak to the quality of the food. The only thing I didn't really like about the place was the time that breakfast was served, I had to have an early start to the day and 0700 is really a bit late to start serving breakfast. 0600 would have been a better bet. I stopped at the main desk at 0645 to get some information but no one was around, even after waiting for 10 minutes no one showed there face. Next time I come to Estes park I will certainly be coming here, even if the desk service leaves a bit to be desired. read more

My father and I always come back to this place every time we visit Estes Park. The rooms are spacious and always very clean. The owners are very nice and we always enjoy a drink in their pub, now a restaurant. Estes Park is somewhat spendy during the tourist season, but the Appenzell Inn keeps its prices at a decent and fair rate all year round. I highly recommend a visit to Estes Park and a stay at the Appenzell Inn. read more

We sleep really well, and truly enjoy every aspect of this gem. Another great thing - it is off the main drag, so you don't have to deal with the downtown traffic and shenanigans. This is not a Hampton Inn, but it is a perfect stay in the mountains. The front desk staff was amazing. I called to ask about dessert and 10 minutes later he delivered it to my door. I was super impressed! The rooms are clean, and well stocked with a mini fridge, coffee maker and microwave. Also, they have Bed Bath and Beyond soap and shampoo, which smells amazing. There are free water bottles in the lobby and snacks so if you have kids it's great. Continental breakfast saves you a couple bucks when you are out of town. There's a pool, so again if you have kids you're set! The grounds are clean and well kept. Quick drive to get to town, too. We also ate at the pub and food was great- and service was ok. This is a GEM!! We decided last minute to stay in Estes Park and by chance found this wonderful Inn. They had one room left.....a romantic suite. With our 2 kids we scooped it up and enjoyed what it had to offer. Lol. Heart shaped tub and all. Every night they have a fire at the fire pit with complimentary s'mores. The pool area was nice and had showers and separate bathrooms. The hot tub was nice and right next to a cute pond brimming with small creatures. The Inn also has gas grills complete with tools, not only by the fire pit,, but upstairs as well as on the lower unit levels.. There was breakfast in the morning, cereal, bagels, waffles, oatmeal, Danish, V8, juice, yogurt and much more. Even though the Inn is right next to other hotels, it felt like we were in a secluded mountain Inn. I wish we would have found this place sooner so we could enjoy it for more than one night. We will come back again next time we visit Colorado. This is a DEFINITE MUST to stay if you visit Estes Park!!! read more

We stayed for one night in a room looking out over the mountains. Amazing view! The hotel was in wonderful condition. Room was clean and included a full kitchenette. We also dined at the pub on site, what a wonderful surprise! Totally thought it was going to be a little funky burger place, but it the food was very unique and soooooo good! We had the trout, chicken, cheese and meat appetizer, cheese fondue plate, and the chocolate cake! All amazing! Wish we could have stayed in town a second night to just eat there again! read more

For a belated Christmas present, I booked a trip to Estes Park and a room at Appenzell Inn. Having a red eye and a severe allergy I called ahead to make sure the room would be ready.
