Our first time at Apothecary. I'm giving a 4 star based on the atmosphere. The atmosphere was pretty cool and chill. A few areas of opportunity: (I am going to bullet point in random order) 1. We ordered the charcuterie board. Def NOT worth the $36. The meats were sub par, there were only 5 small thick crackers, and the other additions were nothing special. The other food seemed VERY over priced so we decided to go elsewhere for dinner. 2. The cocktail concept was creative; however the quality of the drinks were "meh." The Dude was "ok" but overly "milky" and had a weird aftertaste. We also ordered a few "basic" cocktails that were "fine" but I'm not sure they were worth the $20 per drink price tag. 3. The service was "fine." They do emphasize the time limit for parties of 2, 3, etc but I think the servers are "hyper-sensitive" about it making it almost uncomfortable like you can't enjoy your time there -- almost as if you just have to hurry. The guests sitting next to us blatantly asked the server "if we keep ordering drinks can we at least stand at the bar?" The sever said "I'll check to see if there will be room." I thought it was crazy the server would actually turn business away based on their time limit coming to an end! Overall, I liked the ambiance and atmosphere. My husband said he would never return but I would. lol. I now know what to expect so I'll just come prepared with a time limit and other plans made afterward. read more

Having visited most of the A-tier bars and lounges around Dallas I'm really surprised Apothecary is so often mentioned. Due to my three main gripes below I'll probably not return and won't likely recommend. First, the pink couches that surround the lounge perimeter (40% of the seating) are slanted at such a sharp incline we felt like we were slipping off the entire time. Having sat in tons of lounges this excessive recline is unavoidable but at Apothecary it is for some reason intentional. The seating was not conducive for a relaxing second drink and made us want to leave asap. Second, the layout is just one large square room with some sloppy design elements like the dinky empty frames above the bar area and the plywood wall along the bar looks like a temporary concealment to broken window panes. While clearly intentional (or ironic?) it was a jarring, ugly aesthetic for such a central focal point, and incongruent to feeling cozy - bar vibe gives Home Depot. Third, playlist went from hokey Christmas song to Frank Ocean, back to Christmas, to Frank, Christmas, Frank, all night. It was annoying and the group next to us was also laughing at how bad it was. For a place to have a great vibe, music has to be on-point, not an afterthought or employee democracy. Kind of a more upscale bar. I've heard of it. I wasn't planning on getting drinks when coming with friends. The cocktails are pretty innovative in my opinion and one caught my eye. they have the classics then some that are a little more interesting. Expect the drinks to run you ~$20. Tried "My Little Cornstar" ($18). mezcal, pineapple, chili oil. It was the chili oil that caught my eye. It's pretty good and interesting flavor profile. I don't like spending this much on drinks these days. So maybe I would come back on a special occasion. But definitely check it out if you like cocktails! read more

For a 'speakeasy' it is incredibly easy to find, which I'm totally cool with. The drinks were very very very average. I love the creativity and the names, but they all just tasted like normal cocktails from any normal restaurant. The caviar was delicious and that was worth the price. Everything else was just ok! And I kind of wish I had not spent as much money as I did because we did not walk out even a little tipsy. It's a super cool room with beautiful furniture. I was not happy with the service, especially because she was a bit flippant about our orders. It's relatively small, so I was surprised how often we'd make eye contact just for her to look away really fast and pretend to do something. Thank the Lord for maps. This restaurant is hard to find! Immediately upon entering Apothecary, you are "greeted" with a curtain, like a speakeasy entrance. Then you walk into the Alice & Wonderland pop-up (until 9/1). This restaurant is small and the tables are small. My husband is not a little man and neither is the other gentleman that joined us, with his wife. We decided to go ahead and squeeze in for a drink and reevaluate the dfw restaurant week meal here. Once we had our fun and delicious cocktails, we decided we needed to try the food. And boy am I glad we did! Every single thing we ate was spectacular and all themed with Alice & Wonderland. From the arancini (gf), to the meatballs, the cheese fritters (gf), wow! Then we enjoyed steaks and red snapper. The sides were also well made. My very favorite thing, of which I did not get a photo, was the Keylime cheesecake dessert. It's also gluten-free! I have been dreaming about that dessert and several things on the menu since. Both great concepts from Walkabout Hospitality Group. Agree with other reviewers, it's a unique drinking and dining experience for foodies, with expertly creative crafted cocktails and artistic eclectic and delicious food. I booked us at 5pm -6:30 pm, we parked behind the restaurant as other kind reviewers pointed out parking options. We saw the black door/no sign to the left of Rye, opened it and faced a magnetized black velvet curtain that you open and walk through into the speakeasy. We went from daylight into a dark portal of the unknown into a beautiful retro space. Fun start to the evening. Adventurous! Ambiance: Beautiful, mood lighting, art deco, cozy as mentioned in previous reviews. Menu designed well as is the fun tongue-in-cheek themed drink names. Loved the wall paper and decor. Very photographic. Cocktails: Delightful! I started with the 20th Century Fennel and Hubby got the APO Dirty Martini. Next, I tried the Scorpio and Hubby got the Libra Libra Libra. We finished with sharing The Lil' Pink Drink. Enjoyed them all. Food: Exceptional bites, both gorgeous and tasty. Very provocative drinks! This is a speakeasy that is very small and gets very creative with their cocktails, such as using cheese foam. Ambiance was fantastic, a red curtain awaits you at the door that you pull back to get in, it's really cool! Very small though, so reserve your spots ahead of time. I really love a place that leans in hard to what they want to be. It is a beautiful space and they do a great job both providing an inventive signature cocktail menu and producing high-quality standards. Are you hungry? The snacks and bites offered are just as inspired as the cocktails. I attended a lovely holiday tea at Apothecary where the tea was satisfying and well served, but the food was the star! Was visiting my cousin in July, and he knows I'm a big fan of speakeasies. I know the term gets tossed around quite a bit, but let's face it, saying "slightly hidden lounge with craft cocktails and a vintage vibe" doesn't exactly flow off the tongue. Anyhow, we were scouting for a few places like that, and this part of Dallas seemed to have some promising "speakeasy-esque" spots. We ended up choosing Apothecary, and as soon as we walked in, it felt like the right call. It was a Sunday night, not too crowded, and we got seated pretty quickly. Our server checked on us frequently. My cousin attempted some rather cringe-worthy flirting with her, which got a few laughs, and to our surprise, she later brought over special shots and even joined us for one. The drinks were top-notch with a wide variety to choose from. They do serve food, but we arrived just as the kitchen was closing, and there were a couple of intriguing items I wanted to try. Third, an added 3% fee (from the total...) for "Employee health & benefits". This is a surprise to me... whether it be a Greenville, Dallas or something the owners just don't offer it and burden us with it, not about it yall's prob. He gave us solid recommendations for food and drinks. Drinks we had were: Empire Strikes Zwack, Better Than Expected, NY Sour and Pekin Tom-per our receipt. I'd requested the Peach drink but I'm not sure that's what I actually got even though we asked about it! For eats we had Eat Me and Cheddar Fritters both of which were better than ordinary bar food--I would order the Eat Me again anywhere and again! To valet park here's what you need to know: look for the stand that has Rye and a bunch of other restaurants listed. Regular parking on a weekend is a crazy adrenalin anxiety producing experience but you may get lucky! If you valet park; Apothecary will give you the code to show the Valet so you avoid the parking fee! We will go back again but not often because the drinks run about 18 bucks a pop! read more

When you the doors, you are greeted with a dark environment, and you have to open the back curtains and welcome into a small cozy speakeasy. The ambiance is fantastic. It has a unique relaxing vibe. The first is a crab cocktail which is. Vegan and made with mushrooms, it has a lovely flavor to it, so good the beef tartar is delicious and has a nice crunch to it. The nduja and focaccia are home. Super cool, imaginative speakeasy in the heart of lower Greenville. We went in July. It was hot and sunny outside. It was so dark when we walked inside I almost couldn't see where to walk. I certainly couldn't read the menu...for a while! The interior is an Alice in Wonderland interior design riff, with chairs and teacups hanging from the ceiling, and dark red velvet and black decor. So fun! The menu is like a children's book. Beautiful drawings and entertaining to peruse. And the drinks were all delicious! Different glassware for each drink. The waitress was in a flowy, almost a costume but not really a costume outfit that fit the mood. It was Just all very fun. The tables are close set and it was easy to meet our "neighbors", who were celebrating a girls night out. We dined on two appetizers which were also delicious. This was my time visiting a speakeasy and it did not disappoint. The bartenders are knowledgeable and passionate about their drinks. I am more adventurous when it comes to unique drinks and I decided to get a tom kha Which is a thai soup that they took the flavors and created a drink and it was delicious. I also tried their version of a ranch water which had horseradish and it paired very nice with the tequila. They bring avant-garde to the bar menu and shows. Their bar bite Menu is also great because because there are unique dishes on there as well. The ambient is very much speaking easy a good idea to get a reservation. The atmosphere is close to unbeatable. It was relaxed enough to feel intimate with the people you came with but energized enough that you felt a part of the room. The bartenders were so nice and gave great service. While the food is on the expensive side, I'm so glad to have ordered their vegan bolognese! It was GOOD. I love that they have an actually entree rather than relying on a typical burger replacement or salad and it was really exciting to see at a bar like this. TIP: they do not take reservations, but you can put yourself on a waitlist in person which I highly recommend doing before 9pm. We arrived at 9:30pm and were told they may no longer have the option to bring in more people but they're keeping an eye. We saw a show downtown and then stopped here for a few drinks. I think this place is in the category of "Speak Easy", and it's been on our list of places to go. First, make sure and make a reservation because it is very small and seems like it would get very full very fast during peak times. Second, make sure to bring enough money, because this place ain't cheap. It's a very dark and small open lounge. There is a bar at the back with about 7 seats and the tables seat no more than 4. Our server was very knowledgeable about their cocktails and he gave us a good run down on most of the drinks. I would say the average cocktail is about 17 dollars, but they are well worth it. There is a full bar (of course), but I suggest you try a specialty drink off the menu. I had the "Call Me Trinidaddy" and it was delicious. Then, I got brave and had the Smoked Oyster Rockefeller (shot) and it was fun (the steamed oyster was tasty and the shot was very strong [see my picture]). Great service and fantastic drinks. The drinks are amazing and you can't beat the ambiance! Make sure you make a reservation as this is not your local bar where you just walk in. Either know peeps or get on the list via the website. The cocktails have some gimmick factor but they are all legit delicious. However, the highlight of this spot is the service. Could easily be one of this dallas super pretentious spots and to some extent it has to be bc it is super small. BUT the staff is so warm and welcoming and super patient about getting in that I am 99% sure if you want to get in on an evening, you will. But don't be mean about it. Be patient, like the staff and while you may not be able to just walk in at 7pm on a day, you will be able to snag a coveted table. From the flames at the tables to the amazing drinks, I would say this place is a top 5 dallas bar. It probably seats less than 30 people as it is constructed today and there is no just hanging out at the bar so you must get a res. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this new addition to the hood and make sure you try all the drinks!!! There are too many to talk about but they are all super delicious. One of the coolest spots in Dallas. Just make sure to schedule a reservation if you want a table seat! Currently, the decor and food is Alice in Wonderland themed, and one of the staff members told me they might switch to something new at the end of June. So, if the menu sounds appealing to you now, make sure and plan ahead ;) The drinks are all fun and unique with the most incredible flavors. Food portions are small, so while I recommend trying at least one food item from the menu, know that they're about the size of a personal appetizer. It's probably not the place to eat an entire meal unless you're really into tapas or don't each much. Items my table ordered and approve of: -Rabbit Hole (like crab rangoon donut holes with more complexity) -Off With His Head -Fish Eggs & Chips -Rabbit Saddle -Time to Wake Up Drinks/ -I'm Late, I'm late -Tea Party -Hands off my Peaches -Graveyard Dance The only item I don't recommend is the cocktail "Pekin Tom." It's basically just really smooth bourbon with a literal smokey finish. If you love bourbon, it's a good option. But, compared to the other more wild drinks on the menu, I was a bit disappointed in the simplicity of this drink. You feel like you have stepped into a different place and time when you go there.
