Apollo's was hands down the worst pizza experience I have ever had, and that's really saying something considering I have been to some pretty crummy spots in my day. For starters, even getting here is a pain since Apollo's is in an isolated part of the shopping center parking lot. Once I arrived and met up with some other folks I was dining with, the staff clearly looked displeased that they had actual paying customers around, and continued to act with disdain (and clearing our food before it was done) throughout our visit. Take it from someone who will eat pretty much any pizza, from the highest culinary offerings to the deep discount Aldi pie: Apollo's has somehow managed to make something so inedible that I would not accept this food for free. If it were quite cheap that might make it a bit more approachable for some, but their prices aren't even reasonable. Some other folks in our group got sandwiches and they somehow looked worse than even 7/11 pre-wraps. I cannot for the life of me figure out why this place remains in business, though my guess is they have a dedicated delivery audience who lack tastebuds or proper frames of reference for what food should taste like or the texture it should have. Appalling in every sense of the word and I cannot recommend against it strongly enough. Overall: 1.0 star --- Pros: - You don't have to pay to leave, because I gladly would have if I had to. Cons: - Bad parking, ugly restaurant interior. - Unpleasant service, workers just seemed like they were miserable to see someone who wanted to patronize their business. All the more amazing if these were the owners, why so angry? - Not sure how you make pizza taste and feel gross but they found a way. Ditto for the sandwiches. - Prices weren't even reasonable. If I wanted pizza of questionable quality, I would get Cici's for the same price and at least get some sticky rolls for my trouble. read more

I am happy to hear that they carry halal chicken for pizzas. I tried their jumbo chicken pizza and it was just delicious. "Meh. I've experienced better." That's essentially the way I felt after my visit to Apollo's tonight. Don't get me wrong, I've had worse pizza in my life. Just... not in the last few months of my life. --Food: We had a small order of 6 garlic knots and a large half cheese, half pepperoni pizza. - Garlic knots: We didn't see it listed, but they come with romano cheese sprinkled all over them. The problem with this is that the cheese absorbs the buttery garlic liquid (which is normally the sinfully good part of garlic knots), and we were left with slightly dry and less flavored garlic knots. My fiancee doesn't even like romano cheese and brushed it all off. - Pizza: I've said it in prior reviews, but good pizza (to me) falls in one of two categories. 1) Thin crust pizza with a crispy crust. 2) Deep dish with a buttery crust. The pizza at Apollo's is a thin crust, but only the very end resembles anything near crispy. The first slice out of the oven had a firm-at-best crust, but the second slice after having sat a few minutes was really quite soft. If you happen to like thin, soft crust, I think you will strongly disagree with the 2 star rating of this review. I won't cut credit where credit is due; there is a perfect amount of cheese and the pepperoni had a nice spice to it (albeit a bit greasy). It wasn't a bad tasting pizza, but it's hard for me to acknowledge the taste with the texture of the crust. There are a lot of other items on the menu as well, and it's possible that I'll try some other ones at a future date. I particularly like Steak and Cheese, so that's something I could see happening. --Cost: Above food came to ~$15. I'd say about average for a pizza and a bread side. --Atmosphere: Nothing too out of the ordinary for a pizza place. There were two TVs playing America's Got Talent with about 8 people dining in. Place was pretty clean. --Service: We ordered and had our pizza in about 15 minutes. Garlic knots came sooner. They do give generously sized Styrofoam cups for water. Staff was nice enough. --Overall: As it's right down the street from where I reside, I wanted to like Apollo's more. It has the right foundations for a good pizza in my opinion, but I just couldn't get over the crust. If a soft, thin crust doesn't bother you or is preferred, by all means, give them a shot. I personally think I'll be sticking to Capriccio's which isn't too much further down the street, but I don't regret coming here. read more

DELICIOUS Pizza & Garlic Knots! Being a NJ/NY resident living in Northern VA, I crave NY Style Pizza. Stayed in Richmond for the night and checked out the pizzeria on a Friday evening. Place was crowded (which was a good sign). While it took some waiting time to be seated, the appetizers (garlic knots and fries) arrived quickly. We also ordered a cheesesteak which was pretty good. I've had NY Pizza from over 300 places (way more probably) and can say the pepperoni pizza here is certainly in my top 5. The crust was nice and crispy, cheese to sauce balance was great, and the overall taste of the cheese and sauce was spectacular. Wish I would've taken photos but I was really hungry. It all started before I even ordered. I had called to clarify what meat came on the Italian cold cut sub. After being told it had ham & salami, I asked if I could substitute pepperoni for the ham. I was placed on hold for close to 5 minutes to be answered. After getting an answer concerning the substitution I placed my order online. When I sent the order, the app glitched and I wasn't sure if the order was sent. So I called to verify if they received the order. After being placed on hold for yet another 10 minutes they verified they did not receive the order. I once again opened the app and sent the order, this time the order went through. I waited approximately 75 minutes for a cold soggy sub (was suppose to be hot), cold cheese sticks, and cheesecake with a red gel that was supposedly strawberries. Which I paid an extra $1 for. My family and I have been going to Apollo's since they opened. A recent visit partly disappointed though. The pizza still rocked, but I had to return the hamburger and fries. They've changed suppliers to ones that use those awful coated fries (not seasoned-coated in potato starch). They tried to claim, at first, it wasn't a change - but finally owned up. So this used to be one of my favorite places for pizza, subs, and pasta. So I am low carb so I ordered the chicken Alfredo with no noodles, double broccoli, and chicken. I was charged almost $20. I come back to work to eat and I find this. Basically a few pieces of chicken and a few pieces of broccoli and a ton of Alfredo. This is completely unacceptable as I expected more for my money not just a little broc and chicken floating in a tremendous amount of Alfredo sauce. I'm only giving it two starts because it does taste ok. I called the restaurant and complained and was told I'd get a half credit towards my next meal. The prices were really reasonable, I ordered a large cheese pizza and a grilled chicken ceasar salad for like $21. The pizza was cooked perfectly, my daughter described it as soft and delicious. Never thought any of the situations were mishandled, they were always apologetic and efficient in resolving the issues with little to no malice so I was super blindsided by their decision to not deliver to us anymore. They claim people in my home have continuously cursed them out and disrespected them. That's simply just not true. Tried to speak with a manager about the claims and he hung up on us. We've been on the road with our dog and had to order in. We chose Italian food and loved what we saw on Apollo's menu. We had a regular garden and greek salad- a meal in itself, the stuffed veggie combo pizza (LG) which is enormous, and the combo stromboli- again very large portion. You definitely will walk away with left overs, but more importantly the flavor and ingredients are really wonderful. If you're unsure about this restaurant from other write ups- don't worry! Apollo's is my favorite in Richmond. They always put adequate toppings and you can taste the fresh mozzarella and tasty tomato sauce.

All I've ever done here is to walk in at 9pm and get combo slices heated with a coke, so the whole review is about the 10 times I've done that with friends. The pizza is good, the coke is super sweet (I think they use more syrup than other places, which makes me happy cause I'm tired of this watered-down coke that you get everywhere else). The guys working there always seem like they are dying to go home, but they cover it up with a veneer of indifference and never force us to leave if they are slow. They instead always let us stay until closing time, which I find amusing and doesn't negatively affect the experience at all. If you want some oven baked pizza, go there. read more

I've ordered their pizza a few times and have never truly been disappointed! I usually stick with a sausage and pepperoni, but don't let that dissuade you! My pizza has always arrived fresh and it has always tasted absolutely delicious. (I always order a slice of cheesecake as well. TALK ABOUT MELT IN YOUR MOUTH) The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the one time I ordered a sub from them (along with a pizza). My pizza was as amazing as always, but my sub arrived with soggy bread, as if it had been made before the pizza and just sat until it was time to be delivered. Before I start this review, you have to know this is a pizza only review. If you'd like to know about their pastas, I can't really comment. Besides, if you want pasta, you should get it in an authentic Italian restaurant, not a pizza shop. So, I have been eating here for many years now, and i can honestly say it is a pizza that I truly enjoy. The fact of the matter is that there is kind of a love it or hate it mentality in people for Apollo's. One of the reasons I believe that this exists, is because so many people are still used to the corporate hash that they concoct at pizza hut, dominos, etc. Listen, richmond is not a central hub for pizza lovers. In fact if this is the only place you have had pizza, you can't really make a sound decision for what is and isn't good pizza. I will take a Fornino's, Lombardi's, Grimaldi's pizza from NYC over your finest decadent lobster dinner. But we are in richmond and not NYC, so you have to go with what you got. What this place has is the only thing that comes close to a fresh flame oven pizza. The sauce has a sweetened flavor that doesn't clash. The cheese is moderate without being heavy. And all in all they make a pizza that is respectable and better than anything in a 20mile radius. read more
