We've finally found our go to cheesesteak place! Better than the 2 different ones we tried on our trip to Philly, pretty sure it's the best one I've ever had. Apollo is SO nice and a very interesting man. He brought my husband and I a sample of his collard greens....again, the best I've ever had! My reviews are always about "my experience" and I let you be the judge. As a Philly native, I will start by saying this... The steak sandwich (cheesesteak with fried onions) was good. No doubt the Amoroso roll is right on point to make this authentic. Waiting 30 minutes for my sandwich? Heck no. I arrived at noon with a friend I was treating for lunch. I had heard from someone, who knew I was from Philly, about a local joint that supposedly had a good cheesesteak, so I was inclined to give it a taste test. After all, we miss our cheesesteaks, Tastykakes, and water ice* right? Apollo's opens at 11:00 AM and there was only one other person seated at a table waiting for their food when we arrived. So it wasn't like there was a huge lunch rush ahead of us. We placed our order and took a seat. We sat in the back section where there were more tables. Let me tell you, it was freezing in there. The friendly gal who took our order came back after about 10 minutes and started fiddling with the electric fireplace and finally got it going. Since they had already been open for an hour, why wasn't the heat turned on already? Customers shouldn't be shivering in your place of business. I kept checking my watch because our food was nowhere in sight. By the time our two sandwiches were delivered to our table, it was 30 minutes. I gave a 3 star rating because of the whole experience. The sandwich was good, however, the extremely long wait and the chilly climate upon arrival was not good customer retention. The signage was very small and we had to find our way to the side of a building to enter the establishment but that is a minor issue. The owner should also put a little effort/money into the interior upkeep. Would I return for another cheesesteak should I have the craving or if I was in the area? Chicken Cheesesteak, beef cheesesteak, shrimp, wings, onion rings, fries , mac and cheese and cupcakes.Everything was well seasoned and hearty. I was not a fan of the chicken wings. Personally thought they were overcooked but my daughter and grandson liked them. Yes you can enter through the back door! We almost missed this hidden Newnan gem due to backdoor not being clearly marked as an entrance. There's plenty of parking. Bring your patience with you, this isn't fast food...the food is made to order. We will definitely be back. Ok so I gave this place another try only because my friend said he was in the mood for a cheesesteak. Well when we arrived I noticed that they went up in price Significantly. Like three dollars (damn ) We were already there so I said what the hell. When the food arrives I can tell the sandwiches are a LOT smaller than they used to be. I ordered mine with everything. I stumbled across this place on yelp and took a chance taking my husband there. He LOVED IT! While woodys will never be replaced he will be coming back and recommending this place! This place is a true hidden gem!! It actually is slightly hidden. You have to go down an alley to get to it. The staff is amazingly friendly! We were greeted with a big smile and a warm welcome. You can tell the staff really loves what they do! This place gives you the feel of a local cheesesteak spot that you know is going to have amazing cheesesteaks. The cheesesteaks are outrageous!!! The bread is perfectly soft! I can't think of a better place to get a cheesesteak. But the cheesteak wasn't the only fantastic food. They have fried chicken wings that are possibly the best fried chicken I have ever had! They have amazing handcut fries that are amazing! And the collard greens are out of this world. My wife and I stopped in today for lunch after randomly seeing it on google maps and what a find! We were welcomed in and greeted with a smile from (Mally?) who went over the menu with us and even had recommendations. Auntie in the back suggested I get my Philly Cheese with provolone since I wasn't a big American cheese fan and it was delicious! The chicken was seasoned and it was a good meat to bread ratio! The bread was firm and not soggy at all. The fries were good and fried perfectly and they don't use !!PORK!! In their greens only turkey. That's they are truly heaven sent! I've never had cheesesteaks before and these were a fantastic first for me! My husband has had them, but nevertheless he throughly enjoyed their cheesesteaks. Their onion rings are SO good, they aren't soggy, they have a delightful crunch to them! The staff was friendly and inviting, and the art all over the walls was very intriguing. We had ours to-go. The wait wasn't very long- only about ten minutes. Before we left I saw they had "water ice" and wanted to try it (we got the cotton candy flavor). Their small size is more than enough! After we found the place (on the side of the building toward the back), we were greeted warmly. Service was so friendly and patient. And the sandwich (huge) was absolutely delicious. Update: 3-1-24 Went this past weekend - Place had approx 13 people in it, mostly sitting and eating - 1 couple ahead of me ordered - I ordered for me (Philly and fries) - Within 10 minutes another 4 couples came in - 58 minutes later my order was ready - No one ever said "Sorry for the wait" - The 1 guy in the kitchen days have got to end - While the food was / is good, a ridiculous wait time - His kids (Apollo's...owner? I assume) were working and apathetic and lethargic - I get that they don't wanna be there, but that's the face of your business - Looked like Mrs Apollo came in to help - Took some orders and told folks "It's gonna be 40+ minutes" and folks walked out - Several - Several couples told (after waiting 40+ minutes for their food) that "We don't have what you ordered / wanted" and the customers looked around incredulously as if to say "What?! After this wait?" Mrs Apollo came in...did her thing...then left before my sandwich and fries were done - No joke - I caught her whole SHIFT?! The absolute best cheesesteak south of Philadelphia! Takes me about 20 mins to get here, but luckily I can place the order online and it was almost ready but the time I got there! I ordered 8 cheesesteaks and they were all perfect seasoned, just the right amount of cheese, and still hot when I got them home!
