I love this restaurant. We had been eating there at least once a week. Dinners are great. I get that owners need to raise prices with costs going up..... so let's talk about their Pizza, which generally I've always liked ....but if you're going to charge by the topping. ..At least make sure you put said toppings on the pizza! ...so you can see it and taste it. they must have used maple bacon cause my meat lovers pizza taste like syrup it was terrible, the buffalo chicken grinder was awful, mostly bread and half of the grinder was not edible, good news is my son ate and he never does, he liked the stuffed shells that looked like it had an entire can of sauce in it, he definitely likes sauce!! The food has never been great but we always loved our server but they now have left and the servers that they have now are extremely rude if your not one of their "regulars". They make you feel very uncomfortable and not welcome and that your are interrupting their conversations by asking for something. Great little pizza venue. Italian, Greek & American Cuisine. We had the Apollo Special pizza delicious. It had pepperoni, sausage, hamburger, mushrooms, onions, peppers and mozzarella cheese. Excellent choice. Lots of beer choices. Favorite was the Wormtown - Be Hoppy on draft. My drink of choice tonight was the Amaretto Sour. Absolutely delicious!! The staff was so personable and fun. I definitely recommend you go try a pizza and a drink. I am posting the drink specials and the menu. I don't know why I went back to this place after having had blah meals there in the past. Was next door doing some business and against my better judgement went here for lunch. Salad that came with the meal wasn't too bad, other than they put it on a plate so small you can't help but knock half your croutons and salad bits onto the table top - thereby losing them. The veal parm dinner however was disgusting. Clearly frozen veal patties topped with a very flavorless sauce. I will never understand why places like this don't use better ingredients, especially since they charge like they are. We stopped in one night on our way by. It was not too busy. We were seated and then completely ignored. We watched others get seated after us and waitress's giving them service but it was amazing how we were ignored. My husband got up and went to the counter to tell someone there we were being ignored and she said she would send someone over and we continued to be ignored so we told the male host seating others that we had been completely ignored and we were leaving. Always a decent experience here. I've never gone wrong with anything I've ordered off the menu. The Italian dishes are pretty good although, being a fan of Italian, I do love things overloaded with garlic and their dishes could use a bit more in my opinion. A quick stop in the town of Palmer, MA on our way to the Berkshires revealed (and sorry to any who live/grew up in this town) a pretty lowbrow hodgepodge of sketchy bars, sketchy taverns and sketchy pubs. Inside, it looked as if everything was ordered straight out of the Greek Motifs In Bad Taste catalog. I did, however, give them respect for having the old school jukeboxes in the booths, a la Papa Gino's of yore in the Harborblight Mall. The visibly witless server who lurked at a table perusing some local stab at journalism looked less than thrilled to see us. In fact, she looked downright upset. We seated ourselves, and ordered a couple of drinks. Sam on draft for me (kudos) and a glass of red for the fiancee. Glass of wine was bloody huge. We split a small pizza and a salad since we didn't want to load up and fall asleep at the wheel. The pizza is Greek. Surprise. Greasy, thick crust, though the toppings were fairly fresh. The salad was a predictable pile of iceberg lettuce, two cucumber slices and some mushy tomatoes. Always a great meal with wonderful service. Tonight we had Fish and Chips and Tortellini in red sauce. The fish was fresh and tasty, the chips were perfect and included a few juicy onion rings. Just came back from Apollo. We have been going there since they were where the Cumby's in Palmer now is - many, many years. We have always enjoyed the food. Something went very wrong tonight. My veal parm was beyond horrible! The veal tasted as if it was fried in old oil which previously was used for fish.The sauce, which is usually fantastic was "dead" - absolutely no taste. My wife had stuffed peppers which were also covered with no taste sauce. I complained to our waiter who passed our displeasure on to the chef. The waiter came back and informed us that the chef told him that he didn't change anything, that he used the same recipe as always. Not a class answer! How about a personal visit to our table from the chef. I informed the waiter that I would be writing a critique of our visit and he told me twice that that was "not cool!" I am sad to write that my 30+ years of dining at Apollo has come to an end. I suggest that the chef reacquaint himself with proper and long-standing norms on the correct response to diners problems and concerns. My wife and I traveled from NY recently, and while in town wanted to stop at an old favorite (Apollo 1 Pizzeria & Restaurant). Unfortunately, we will never be returning. The staff at the counter (Sunday night, with 45 minutes to go until closing), first asked us "What do you want?". We wished to place a small to go order, but were told no because they wanted to leave early due to the snow (had just started and had not accumulated). They gave us attitude, would not take an order, and we decided to walk out. This is NOT the first time staff has been rude, but this was the icing on the cake. You have officially lost our business, as well as our large social circles (we were from the area originally). Maybe management would do well to train their staff on proper etiquette in terms of customer treatment. I am a small business owner as well, and if someone in my company treated a customer that way they would be seeking new employment. If you need to close a business early, put up a sign, or at least address it when we first walk through the door instead of ignoring us up until we reach the counter and ask to be helped. This place deserves at least 7 stars but alas, can only give 5. My family was looking for somewhere to have dinner after attending my father's wake at Beers and Story in Palmer. There were a lot of us and none of the 'nice restaurants' could handle the crowd on a Friday night with no notice. So i told my brother, we (my part of the family, 9 of us) are just going to head over to Apollo because they have great food. Well, my brother decided that was a good idea and follow, but he called and warned them that about 25 of us were on the way. The staff at Apollo never missed a beat, when we arrived they had a section prepared for us and proceeded to provide a great experience. Our server, Linzee (sp?) was absolutely wonderful and with some help from the young man that seated us, made this a fantastic experience for the whole group, which ended up being about 30 of us ranging from 2 - 88 years of age. The kitchen staff prepared the normal wonderful food and never missed a beat even though we were all over the menu. We often stop at Apollo when we are in the area and have for years and that night just proves we were right all along. Final note, a "nice restaurant" is not only about the fancy table cloths and the pricy mine items, it's about the people, from the owners to the person who sweeps the floor and in my humble opinion, Apollo is the nicest restaurant in western Massachusetts!
