I needed cataract surgery and I had serious issues with my eyes. Dr. diagnosed the issues. He is extremely skilled and was able to correct extreme vision issues that I didn't think could be fixed. He was very professional and has been voted as one of the best ophthalmologists in Cincinnati. He explains every procedure and is very interested and caring in you as a patient. After surgery, he follows up to make sure everything is fine. The other doctors and optometrists at Cincinnati Eye Institute are also very professional and thorough. My entire family also goes to Cincinnati Eye Institute for all our eye exams for contacts and glasses. read more

We have been going to CEI for about 15 years. Every appointment is usually about 2 to 4 hours after our appointment time. They absolutely do not care about their Scheduling. I contacted them and they said well. We are working on that. That was about five years ago. It has only gotten worse. read more

I was told that I needed cataract surgery. When I objected, they assured me that the surgery was necessary. I trusted their judgement and went through with the surgery. I now have terrible vision. I can't see close up or in the mid range at all. The only good vision I have is driving at night. I also have an astigmatism since the surgery, something I've never had before. I have no doubt that this practice is nothing but a cash cow with a steady stream from Medicare and no regard for the patient. read more

I was examined by ophthalmic asst. who was great. Dr Bisg comes in and check my vision with my eyes dialated and states my vision had changed ....gives me prescription which I buy 2 pair of glasses. I get glasses and feel nausea and vision strained. Go back to get lenses checked and they are spot on with new prescription. make appointment with Dr again and assist again is great and get correct prescription. Dr B comes in and said to me" usually the dilation refraction works. she said she would split the difference and gave me new prescription. Split the difference? Now i meed to go back and get 2 new lenses in my glasses. read more

I go to doc Meier in Mason. I had cataract surgery two years ago I had the lenses used so I know longer where contacts. I did have to have laser done to clean the lenses which is normal. My vision is really good. I love the lenses. They took great care of me every time. Most of the staff is friendly. read more

Doctors and staff are great, but every time we come we wait for over an hour beyong our appointment time.

The optical department needs a better way of taking care of patients. I suggest that they have a sign-in sheet so that they know people are waiting for them and not the doctors. My biggest complaint is that they are very slow to return calls. I called on a Wednesday to place an order for contacts and didn't get a return call to order them until late Monday afternoon. I was able to eventually talk to a live person on Thurday of that week but didn't get a return call until Monday. I don't think it should take 3 business days to return a call. Now it has been over two weeks and I still haven't had a call to let me know the contacts are in. I have tried calling but am not able to talk to a person-only leave a message. I didn't wait until I was out of contacts to order new ones. The doctor changed my contacts and had only 5 days worth of contacts for me to try. I have experienced the slowness of the optical department before so I called to order them after only trying the new ones for 1 day. I experienced a similar issue when I ordered new glasses about 8 months ago. It's very frustrating. read more

Unsure about the abilities of some of the aspects of operations. The Dr seemed to be knowledgeable and and expert. My eyes are not the easiest to eval treat and diagnose. I was saddened when my insurance changed and I had to leave Harpers Eye Associates. They are top notch in every way. I called Apex to ensure they were a provider in my insurance. I expressed historically my medical is used to Bill my eye care. Because if my medical dx.i also needed new contacts and it took me working with 2 optical assistants and about three weeks of trials to get it right. Now as I sit here with a $250 bill with nothing covered by insurance, I'm letting you know that the docs might be good but the ancillary services such as billing systems etc. are antiquated and not as comparable to any modern medical offices that I know. Most offices and hospital systems can run insurance and know what you owe and what may not covered prior. Now I must look for another provider....again. What a heck of a way to find out your services are not covered. I had a lengthy conversation when I made my appt. about medical vs eye coverage to ensure I could be onboard as a patient. Such a wonderful experience here today as opposed to what I experienced at Cincinnati Eye Institute in Blue Ash which I felt like I was in a cattle drive. They were very prompt & the staff was very friendly and helpful. Sat down with the scheduler and got me set up with my cataract surgery next month. Dr. Meier was very thorough in explaining the procedure and what to expect. I am looking forward to seeing clearly again and I believe these guys will do a great job! read more

The doctors and everything are great. I love the service. The only down side is it takes a very long time. If your appointment is at 8:40 you will sit there for 30-40 minutes before you get called back and then you wait a little more after you get called back. Like I said doctors and staff are great but overall a visit takes around 2 hours. I'm fine with the wait because the doctor is very good. read more

I value the time of my health professionals and expect the same from them. Apparently, Apex doesn't value mine time at all. Had an appointment at 10:10 AM this morning and arrived 15 minutes early in case there were forms to fill out. 10:30 AM comes and I'm not called back to the examining room. I go to the front desk and explain that I needed to leave at 11:10, one hour after my appointment. I was told that there was no way I would be done and they couldn't say when I was going to be seen. I had stopped going to Apex a number of years ago because of the very long wait after my appointment time. I was to see a retina specialist for macular degeneration. They made another appointment for May 29 at 7:15 AM. I'll let you know how long it takes after my appointment. I don't have any problems with my other health providers, just Apex. read more

I have been going to see Dr. O'Neil and Dr. Meier since before they joined Apex. They are really as good as you can get as ophthalmologists, and Dr. Meier has been awarded Cincinnati Magazine's top doctor multiple times. Dr. O'Neil did my Lasik surgery back in 1999 and I had great results. I have been to both the Mason and Fairfield locations several times. At both, their office staff is professional and it is easy for me to get an appointment if I have a non-routine issue that needs immediate treatment. I noted where someone else gave them a bad review for a mistake the office allegedly made. Frankly, I'd be very surprised if the mistake came from the office, not because they are perfect, because no one is. However, these doctors are not the bait and switch type, and after reading the circumstance, I'd say there was a lack of clear communication. read more

Apex Eye made a mistake. They scheduled my daughter's routine eyeglass exam with one of their medical doctors and billed it as a medical visit, instead of scheduling it as a routine eyeglass exam, which for me would have been free. They did this without disclosing this to me. When the doctor recommended she try a contact lens because of her atypical prescription we were escorted to the lobby area and greeted by a women who sat down and for ten minutes showed her how to put the contacts in her eye. They told me she could try the contacts, for free, for 1 month and then decide whether or not to purchase more. Not expecting to pay anything for this visit, I was shocked when asked me to pay $100.00 for the ten minute "How To" session. My jaw dropped. It was never told to me that I would need to pay this out of pocket. They did not communicate this to me. They quickly ran it through my Eye Med insurance and came back with a lower charge saying half was covered. I paid them $50.00 right then and there. Again, Apex Eye made a mistake. Their billing department told me that my original medical office visit of $124.00 would be re-billed and taken care of and not to worry about it. And it has not been taken care of to date. Now their corporate office is calling me, treating me as if I have done something wrong, and demanding the $124.00. They are going back their promise to me! I am so disappointed. I thought I had finally found a local family practice where I could take all 6 of my family members who have glasses, and establish a better accountability and history. I will not recommend them to anyone because they lack the well rounded customer service focused common courtesy to be upfront with the way that they schedule and charge and bill for their services. Not only this, but the person who answers the phone sounds like she hates her job and hates you for calling. The doctor was awesome, the guy fitting classes was awesome and friendly... but the front end schedulers, greeters and billing office have put me in a sour mood not giving me information, and not following through on their promises. I am very, very disappointed in the care I received from Apex Eye. I needed cataract surgery and I was told that I would not need glasses except for reading. I was up-sold a more expensive lens to eliminate my astigmatism. The doctor was good, the surgery was good. After, I had difficulty seeing, especially in my right eye. It was then that I was informed that I had a condition that would not allow me to see clearly in the right eye. I was not told of this before surgery. I had to research the condition online to fully understand what was going on. The lens upgrades did not help since I had these conditions prior to surgery. Over the last few months, my vision has worsened, so I moved to a new practice affiliated with CEI. I've learned that I have several conditions that will never allow me to see properly. The condition that had been identified by Apex after the surgery is in both eyes according to my recent exam with my new doctor. I've only been treating one eye which worsens the issue. I wrote to Apex through their web site but never received a response. In summary, Apex Eye did not inform me about the conditions I had, or even identify the new conditions that were recently discovered by my new doctor because of more thorough testing. I would not recommend Apex Eye. read more

I found this new place and I loved it! Dr. Fox was very thorough in the exam, very patient in answering all my questions/concerns. I did have to wait a little bit longer than usual but it was very busy that day. She also was very patient with my 7 year old. I also had a wonderful experience with Geri (hope I spelled that right) who helped me with ordering glasses and contacts. She found ways to help me save money. I don't know a lot of vision places that would do that. Very knowledgeable staff! read more
