I used to go to Dr. Kottapalli when I first became an adult. After coming down with a sickness I got a blood test done and was told that I should be fine playing sports and other physical activities. A few days later Dr had called my parents and let them know that I had mono. My parents were very confused because playing sports could have caused my spleen to rupture. After letting her know that it was incorrect of her to not let us know sooner, Dr. Kottapalli responded in the rudest way. She told my mom to change the doctor for me if I wasn't happy, and that we could try to report her but she was untouchable. After that I decided to switch doctors. In another instance, my mom continued with Dr. Kottapalli for years after being diagnosed with arthritis. She was feeling very lightheaded today and had called the doctor for instructions on what to do to feel better. The doctor said she would call right back and has not called for over 6 hours. Dr. Kottapalli is NOT a respectful person and has no bed side manners despite being in a healthcare field. I would stray far away from her, if anyone is looking to add her as a PCP. read more

Dr. Kottapalli is our primary HMO physician, a family doctor working out of the Palo Alto Medical Group at El Camino and Kiely. She is the consummate medical professional; knowledgeable, caring and trustworthy. She is able to connect complex medical science into an easy-to-understand, layman's verbage, so that we could understand in an unprecedented thorough fashion. One example from a recent visit today, was regarding bad asthma and allergy conditions my daughter has had all her life. While we've had good treatment over the years, Dr. Kottapalli had a very unique approach, essentially steering away from simply "medicating" her, but instead showing us how to help mitigate the problems at the root cause. I recently saw Dr. Kottapalli for advice on dealing with an upper respiratory condition. Although I did not have a bacterial infection, she prescribed a broad-spectrum antibiotic. This is the kind of behavior that is producing drug-resistant bacteria strains. Dr. Kottapalli seemed to be having a difficult day. She could not remember the name for an otoscope when she was searching for one in the exam room. I have been with Dr Kotapalli 18 years.... Although she is a good Dr if you are going to see her for SIMPLE YEARLY PHYSICALS, I was diagnosed with thyroid issues 17 years ago, my very low dosage was never increased, despite me continuing to acquire more symptoms over the years. It all was overlooked! When I finally got frustrated with everything I was dealing with... I did some hard work to tabulate everything, do more research so I could ask intelligent questions & with her come up with a better plan to improve my health.... SHE FELL SHORT! Basically asked me to stop researching, I was better off getting off my ass & working out!!! And here I had just finished telling her of extreme adrenal fatigue issues..... That made me go down 10 mins into a zumba class I had been doing for years! She does not have the knowledge or experience beyond basic health care! I was in tears, at which point she inquired if I was depressed, and maybe she needed to prescribe anti depressants! That was the last I saw of her! NO ONE SHOULD BE TALKED TO BY THEIR DR THAT WAY! Today with access to the Internet.... The cats out of the bag & Drs cannot undo patients educating themselves of their condition! This cat is not going back in! I suggest Drs need to get used to patients informing themselves.... And working with that.... But we still go to our Drs because they are Drs! They still need to figure & help resolve issues! I used to see Dr. Kottapalli 8 years ago, then moved. She was great back then and still is. I was excited she was still at the PAMF Santa Clara when I made an appointment. She is intelligent, knowledgable, prefessional, has an excellent bedside manner and has positive attitude. She speaks to me on an intelligent (my) level and explains everything. Dr.Kottappalli has been my family doctor for many years and she is OK if you are seeing her for your physical. Lately I was seeing her over prescribing medications without properly diagnosing the underlying cause. This is especially true with psychiatric drugs since many people within her practice go through stress because of high tech work etc. I happened to get assessed with specialist doctor and learned I didn't need to take any of the drugs she prescribed which had a number of side effects and affected family life. Anu Kottapalli is the best Doctor I've ever met in my 15 years in USA and one of the two best doctors in my entire life (another doctor was doctor who saved my life almost 30 years ago, by performing amazing surgery on my knife wounds through clinical death and other complications) I won't tell you guys what Any has done for me as doctor for 5 short years when I was her patient. For sure it wasn't less then first doctor done for me. Not all of us lucky to meet God's sent people even once in our life, I was lucky to be a patient of One of them: Anu. Had an appointment with her today and had to wait 45 minutes before I finally left in disgust. The appointment was in the afternoon and very few people were in the office (inside or in the waiting room). Their board showed that she was on time so after 10-15 minutes, I asked the desk and they said someone was coming out now to get me. We went through the usual pre-visit check up/check in and I was in the exam room for another 20 minutes when I again reminded the assistant I was there. She went to check and came back and said the doctor would be there shortly. I waited another 10 minutes and by then (after 45 minutes), I decided to leave as I have a life too and other things to do. I was never given a reason for her tardiness, such as she's with another patient or there was an emergency, etc. I'm not even sure she was in the office at this point! Anyway this is totally unacceptable wait time without an explanation. I went to the desk and asked if I could see someone else the next day and the front desk was totally unhelpful in trying to arrange another appointment. I walked out telling them I would find another doctor (and did). As for her medical skills and bedside manner, I think she's pretty average in both and she was my internist for a few years. When I first met her, I gave her a CD with my past medical records which she did absolutely nothing with, and after several months gave it back to me and told me to pick out what was important! It seems PAMF has no way to incorporate your past medical records digitally. I had a small cancer on my leg which she didn't think was a problem at first. Fortunately she did biopsy it and then referred me to a dermatologist for removal. When I tore my meniscus, she wanted to refer me to someone in her office who wasn't even an orthopedist or sports medicine specialist! I also had problems in the past with trying to schedule appointments toward the end of the week and got the impression she may just work part time. I also had a problem working through a snafu with mail order drugs which her substitutes finally resolved. I guess today was a blessing in disguise because it finally pushed me into looking for a new doctor! I don't know if she is having issues of her own, but I think PAMF needs to step in and take the load off of her if she is unable to perform up to standard. I wish her well. read more

She responds promptly to online questions or prescription refill requests. Her office staff is equally friendly and supportive specially Virginia.
