This was a meal in itself, though there was little to no blackening on the fish The flavors of both were good The finest were the Crème Brûlée. I had the tres leche and my with had the dark ch chocolate and ancho chili. These were probably the best of any flavor crème brûlées I've ever had. I just had their Chancho Asado de Peru, it was out of this world good. Ive been to Peru, so when they put a plate in front of me with a yellow dipping sauce my eyebrows raised and I started to smile. "Is this aji" "yeah!" Threw some of the most tender, fall apart pork onto my fresh corn tortilla, a little rice, a pickled carrot. Dipped in that super flavorful, moderately (for here) spicy aji pepper sauce, that first bite was wild. I looked around (they probably thought I hated it) because I was at a legitimate loss as to how perfect that bite was. I was looking for anyone to tell how amazed I was. I thought it was a bit spendy when I ordered it, but it was worth every penny. One of the best things I've ever eaten, I got a little emotional it was so good. That said, it hit all of my buttons. First of all when I called for a reservation, the lady who took it was rude. Told me that they didn't open until 11 and was basically lucky that she answered the phone. If you find yourself in the small, yet absolutely beautiful town of Spearfish, you have to stop by Antunez after a day of enjoying the stunning nature surrounding the town. The atmosphere is very warm and cozy with not too much seating but that should not be a problem as the town of Spearfish is relatively small. From the wait staff to the furnishing to the lighting, Antunez has a homey yet professional feel to it. Now on to the important part, the food! I ordered the dry aged buffalo ribeye and just wow. The waitress recommended it to be cooked "medium". I normally like my steaks cooked medium rare but I trusted her and glad I did. It was cooked perfectly and the sides complemented the steak fantastically. Service was top notch as well. Good job y'all! I have eaten here many times-excellent food and kind service. I took my in-laws last night to share this special place with them. We were seated and our order was taken quickly. Long story short, 50 minutes later, we had no food so I told the server we needed to be somewhere soon. She said our food could not be packaged to go. What? Confused, I suggested they serve us and bring take out boxes and we would package our own food. Ten minutes later, the kitchen did package our food as a "one-time courtesy", as stated by the server. Thanks, but how about acknowledging that we waited an hour before we saw any food? The meals sat in our car as we went to a musical show. We then drove back to RC and finally had reheated dinner at 10:05 pm. This was a disappointing experience and I hope it was a one-off. read more

This place is a total gem I grew up in New Mexico I truly know quality Mexican food. This place is better than anything I have had!!!! A must place to visit ! I had buffalo steak and shrimp ceviche blow your mind good. My girlfriend had chicken enchiladas incredible!! Her friend had carnitas tacos we couldn't believe how amazing everything was! I hesitate to give them a glowing review because I don't want to have this place over run with people so I can get into it for another amazing meal but they deserve this review!! I grew-up in South Dakota and ended-up in Texas 30 years ago. I am very picky now with Mexican food and like a bit of spice and flavor, something which I normally do not find a lot of back in SD. I stopped in for lunch with my brother. We started with some craft beers on tap. Small selection of locals, but some that would pair very well with Mexican (e.g. lime-flavored). The street corn is incredible. Much better than what I get in Houston at the festivals. Incredible taste with garlic. I also had the carnitas taco and chicken enchilada. They were both very good. The green rice was also very tasty. The black beans I had were good, nothing special. I would love to see a black been version of charro beans. This is the thing that makes South Dakota special. The owner's daughter came over to fold napkins while we were eating at the bar and chatted away with us. She told us how her family moved to South Dakota and how the food is not your typical, crappy South Dakota Mexican food, but is a blend of Mexican, Colombian and Spanish varieties. She also gave us recommendations for restaurants in the area, including a good Indian restaurant in Spearfish, good Thai in Rapid City, a James Beard award winner in Custer, and another good restaurant in Lead. Anyway we had a great conversation with her. Some bikers who were staying at a motel near us told us the same thing about the daughter. So glad to see a restaurant like this in South Dakota. It's a small, cozy restaurant in Spearfish, but could easily be 4x the size in Rapid City and be constantly busy. read more

Awesome service and meal. We were seated at the bar (yes, they maximize their table space because the place is so small. If you don't have four in your party, you aren't going to be seated at a 4-person table even if one is available. Know this going in and bite your tongue). On to the food. Guacamole is to die for. So good and we devoured the bowl. Used the cucumbers to scrape every little bit. Next it was in to the entrees. The three of us split a very flavorful strip steak with rice and pinto beans. It was cooked to perfection. We also shared four tacos--carnitas and chicken that also came with rice and beans. They were all so good. Before we left, we bought four chorizo breakfast burritos to go and two truffles. This is the best place to eat in Spearfish. They focus on organic, farm to table type of ideology, which we live. Great staff, even though they were very busy for a Friday evening. We sat at the bar and had their guacamole which was fantastic! Asked for recs in the main dish and were extremely pleased. First off, this place touts itself as a wine and tapas bar. We ordered a bottle of wine from the menu, the 2018 Finca tempranillo. The server brought us a bottle, opened it, and when I sampled it and looked at the bottle, it was a 2022 Aruma malbec, I told her it was the wrong wine and she told me "we're out of the Finca and she told me they're the same thing. They're both from Argentina." Um, no, they're not. We opted not to argue it, no biggie. I ordered the Esquite appetizer, and it wasn't what I expected. It was actually a bowl size portion with a big basket of chips, a much larger portion than I expected. And it was delish. Really flavorful with charred corn, cotija cheese, and cilantro. Then my husband got his "enchiladas" which looked like tacos. They agreed the dinner was incorrect and took away his plate. The server came over and said we ordered Colorado vs. Rojo, etc. and she thought we ordered the tacos. It almost made it seem like it was our fault, and we don't recall asking about Colorado. As an aside, the couple next to us got their dinner before their appetizers. The staff was gracious, but I felt like the service was disorganized. When my DH got the shredded beef enchiladas, they were really good. The sauce had more of a mole flavor, smoky, and not super tomato-ey. There were olives and cilantro garnishment and jalapeños inside. The pintos had a nice flavor, too. We give the food a 5 out of 5. And kudos for graciousness. However, the communication could have been better. Overall, we would come back, and DH said his enchiladas were the best he's ever had. So there's that. read more

We came here from California for the sturgis rally and this was honestly the best Latin flare food I've ever had!!!!!!! Highly recommend every single thing. Not a bite left. You will find great food & I love their take home area with a variety of some unusual frozen items as well as big trays green or red chili enchiladas. Visited on a Saturday evening with my family. The food was absolutely amazing. Everyone had a different type of taco dish and all were great. Carnitas, fish, beef, and chicken. Carnitas were the best tacos I have had anywhere, including Texas and Southern California. Guacamole for an appetizer with cucumbers for dipping was equally awesome. We stopped here around 6:45 on a Wednesday for dinner after a long day of traveling. The wait was about 20 mins but it was well worth it. Our waitress was so excited to learn we were from out of town - she told us a little history of the family owned restaurant and said we really couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu. Everything is made to order from family recipes. We got the guacamole which was the best I've ever had! I love that you can get cucumbers in place of or in addition to chips. We all ordered enchiladas. My dad got the spinach and mushroom enchiladas w the verde sauce and it was the best dish on the table. My mom and I got the rojo sauce enchiladas - an order of chicken and one of beef. The chicken was better! They also let me sub out sautéed squash for the rice. Antunez is beautiful in every detail, from the cozy leather chairs to the hanging ceiling flowers, down to the brass door handle at the entrance. The restaurant delivers quality while still offering a very laid back casual dining experience. You could come in an evening gown or yoga pants and feel welcomed. The esquite is the best thing in my life and don't forget the tapas for a fun date night. This should be rated the #1 restaurant in The Black Hills! 2 friends & I stumbled upon it when exploring the Spearfish area. What a gem! The Mexican/Spanish/Cuban cuisine is wonderfully-prepared.
