the service is great, but the food is not very good. we ordered the garlic cheese bread, the agnolotti cardinale and the linguine pescatore. the bread had good flavour and was great for two people as a starter. unfortunately, with our mains, the pasta tasted like it had been frozen and then reheated. the texture of the linguine was not reminiscent of fresh pasta and the stuffed pasta was even worse. the filling of the stuffed pasta was still cold and mushy. it was also just lacking flavour overall. the only thing impressive was the portion sizes. but that's the trade-off--food comes out fast and in big portions, but it's low quality stuff. although we enjoyed the attentive service, there is still room for improvement. read more

Finally went to this local hot spot! The portion size is their big thing and definitely lives up to the hype. For $26+ you get a huge platter of pasta. I got the linguini with meatballs but the linguini was more like buccatini it was so thick, sauce was super good too. If you like large portions of food.... to eat for the next few days, Anton's is the place for you. They are very generous with their portions as if your Mother or Grandma is filling your plate. Seeing that it had a lot of patrons, we thought it would be a great place to enjoy lunch. I was lost enjoying all the memorabilia all over the walls from over the past years which showed they had been around for a long time. Waitress was very kind and checked on us often. Stopped by on a Thursday night at 5 and I lined up for fifteen minutes. It's always incredibly busy, but for understandable reasons. I would line up for an hour for the pasta. The pasta is a standard price but the portion you get is four times the regular size. I don't think I can ever finish in one sitting. The taste? Subtle, bold, flavorful, depending on what you get. The garlic bread is a great appetizer. It's crunchy outside and and quite soft on the inside with good amount of garlic spread. I got the fusilli massimo because I was in the mood for clear sauce and some olive and tomato. The taste is well-balanced. There's some sweetness from the tomato and some tanginess from the olive. It has a healthy taste to it. The gnocchi and penne are great too. The penne antonio has a pesto sauce that is perfectly salted and the gnocchi has a nice, bold, savory flavor. The servers are attentive as well. Even though the store is quite full, we still get refills of water. Overall, everyone went home happy and full. We also got our lunch for tomorrow too. read more

After having this place on my to try list for the past three years, I was finally able to visit! My party got there 10 minutes after they opened on Sunday, they had just seated the first round of guests and so we waited for around an hour. Note that several parties of two were able to get in right away so that's a good tip if you are able to go in a smaller party. At the same time, the ambiance was very homey and I could see why a lot of folks were dining with their whole families! My friends and I all got different pastas --- I opted for a stuffed pasta with spicy tomato sauce, pancetta, spinach and pine nuts. As expected, the portions were huge! I was able to get two more lunches out of my meal -- the spice was a good level and made the meal very hearty. The server answered my questions, and was attentive despite the busy service. My friends and I came on a Sunday (around 3:40 PM) 10 minutes after they opened and the restaurant was already very busy! We just missed the first round of seating so we were told that we needed to wait 45 minutes up to an hour until we could be seated. While we were waiting, we decided to look over the menu and figure out what we wanted to eat. I recommend doing this because their menu is huge! They have so many pasta options and it was really hard picking one. We ended up waiting for an hour as they estimated and were seated. I honestly think you can't go wrong with any of the pastas here, but I got the Fusilli New Orleans and it was loaded with seafood, sausage and chicken. I got to share my friends' pastas as well and everything was delicious. We only ate about 1/4 of our pasta before we were full so we had a lot to take home. It was definitely worth the $30! Unfortunately, I did see a table that had a lot of leftovers and did not choose to take their food home, so all of the food was gone to waste. I've been hearing about this place time and time again but due to it being extremely out of the way, I never had a chance to go. Well, the day finally came and I have to say it was exactly as I expected - A gargantuan portion of food for a fair price. We arrived mid afternoon on a Saturday, I hear it's usually very busy during peak hours so we came at a good time and were seated right away. The restaurant is retro family style vibes with lots of seating inside. Service was prompt, we ordered and food came out within 20 minutes. I'm a big fan of white sauce pasta so I had to try the carbonara - it was thick, creamy, and exactly as I imagined it to be. You're not here to get gourmet Italian food, you're here for the fat portion of comfort food that will 100% put you into a coma afterwards. Needless to say, this pasta fed me for 3 consecutive meals and I was not mad at it at all. I have heard so much about Anton's and the huge portion. Somehow I have not been here. Hard to believe but it happens. Palate changes and I no longer eat pasta much now. I have outgrew the heavy sauces, both cream and tomato, and generally prefer a simple pasta tossed with olive oil. Most of my friends have also outgrew the heaviness of pasta but I finally persuaded a friend to go with me. We went for lunch and the place was pretty busy on a weekday. Service was warm and the server was great in figuring out which pasta my friend had years ago. You could also get the dinner portion during lunch and still get a pen if you finish it. My friend did. His second pen from Anton's. I decided to try the fettuccine with prosciutto and asparagus in a sage cream sauce. Lunch portion. It was good but still too much to finish. I reheated the leftover and it was still good. Amazing! Sometimes cream pasta didn't taste good when reheated so I was glad it wasn't the case here. I tried a bit of the pasta my friend ordered - penne all emiliana. It was tossed in olive oil and served with Italian sausage, pancetta, olives, basil, tomatoes and feta cheese. Very tasty too. I can see the appeal of Anton's with its homely hearty pasta. It has a family atmosphere, even among the staff. I will come back again to try the other pasta dishes. read more

Found this place on accident. Drove by and saw how busy it was so we decided to try it. Plenty of seating inside, once seated they were very attentive. Every table we looked over at had these huge plates of food. We decided to share the chicken fettuccine Alfredo, noodles were thick and fresh tasting. The sauce was creamy but thickened up with I preferred. We had so much leftover. Pricing and quality are reasonable for the amount of food you receive. I judge solely on food (everything else was great!), and sadly Anton's isn't what it used to be. The portions are as gigantic as ever, but the pasta itself is too doughy, even for fresh pasta, and the protein is rather lacking in any dish, even the pescatore that I ordered. Anton's holds a special place in my heart. It's where to go if you're craving good pasta and intending to have leftovers for days (because you will have leftovers). They offer a wide selection of pasta options and toppings. I would recommend things from the red sauce section and steer away from the clear sauce section though. The last time I came, I got a clear sauce and it tasted like nothing. The service is good as the servers get you in, sat down and are ready to take your order. However, food made fresh does take time to make so you may be waiting a while for your food. Especially given that this place is busy, I would not expect food served promptly. The ambiance is loud and busy. They have a bit of an open kitchen portion so it can be loud and a bit distracting (or fascinating to watch staff make dishes). Anyons hand made pasta dishes are to die for. There's usually always a line up even in he rain... but believe me it's worth it. The portions are large and plentiful. It has been a long time since I have eaten at Anton's pasta bar. 30 years to be exact.. burnaby Hastings has definitely changed. It looks more modern and this restaurant has a bit of nostalgia yet is also less crowded. My friend Tony picked the restaurant as it is the closest between Coquitlam and Vancouver. I am glad there is free street parking at the front and on the side street. The same usual staple of large pasta plates that remains unfinished after eating 1/4 or 1/2 of it. It has remained delicious. Price has maintained consistently over the years. With the portions you get, it's worth it. I choose not to finish my plate for a free pen. When they say big portion they meant HUGE. I felt like even 4 people can't finish the one pasta one appetizer portion, that was how crazy it was. I heard this place is very popular but when I came in there was one free table! Disappointing Anniversary Experience After Years of Loyalty If you're like me and used to frequent Anton's Pasta Bar before the pandemic, prepare to be DISAPPOINTED. My wife and I took my parents here for their anniversary, hoping for the same great food and service we had enjoyed for years. We arrived early, anticipating the infamous long line, but the line wasn't as long as expected when the doors opened at 3:30 PM on Sunday. Once inside, it was warm and cozy, but things quickly went downhill. Within 10 minutes, they started blasting the AC, leaving my family shivering while waiting for our food. Service was understandably slow, as they had just opened, but things didn't improve. We ordered two appetizers: the Calamari Alla Marinara, which we've always loved, and the Focaccia Bread Basket. When they arrived 20 minutes later, the calamari portion was noticeably smaller than before, drowned in far too much sauce to hide how little calamari there was. As for the focaccia, it wasn't a basket at all--just five small slices on a plate, which was surprising since we remembered getting complimentary bread in the past. The real issue came with the pasta. We ordered three Frutti di Mare dishes and one Fusilli New Orleans, and waited an hour for them. One Frutti di Mare had a decent amount of sauce, but the other two were dry, as if they'd run out. Worse, two of them were excessively salty, to the point that it was hard to eat. There was barely any seafood, a far cry from what we used to get. My wife's Fusilli New Orleans was also overly salty, with less chicken and sausage than before. The portions were still large, but only because they switched to larger pasta shells, likely to mask the lack of seafood and quality ingredients. To make things worse, prices have increased drastically--from $18 to $28 per plate--for food that is clearly sub-par to what we were used to at Anton's. We could barely finish our meals and took the rest home, but even the leftovers weren't worth it. The cherry on top of this disappointing experience was when we left. As we got to our car, the waiter gave my wife a dirty look and shook his head in disapproval for not tipping. After everything, that was the final straw. We won't be coming back. read more

This place is a great classic but at the same time just seem to be stuck in the past. I understand the saying of "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" but I feel it could use a breath of fresh ideas. The restaurant looks outdated and the menu is quite overwhelming with an abundance of options. Overly large menus are another thing of the past as they unfortunately compromise on quality with so many different items having to be constantly cooked. However, if you know what to go for at Anton's then you're sure to leave with a happy and full tummy. I love to start with the Anton's salad which is a fresh mixed green salad with some Italian and somewhat greek notes. The pesto cream sauce is super fresh and delicious especially in my favourite pasta dish "fusilli all Toscana". This was the worst restaurant. Very disorganized in their ability to seat people. We were in line for two hours and fifteen minutes because they kept on changing their minds about how to connect tables and seat people. At the end, one of the waiters yelled at us and the other workers saying that they cannot waste time and lose other customers because they are trying to figure out how to seat people. If you are a large group (8 people or more) don't waste your time and energy going here. They have no logic to simply organize people. Just because you have been around as a restaurant for a long time, it does not mean that you can deteriorate in your approaches to keeping your customers happy and treating them with respect. read more

Wow this place is fantastic. On a Saturday evening, we waited outside for 1 hour to get inside and it was worth the wait. The portion size is hugeeeee. We ordered the vegetarian Herb Penne Alla Contadina and asked the server to add more veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower etc. The restaurant supposedly charges a minimum of $21.50 per person but as we waited for so long the server was kind enough to not charge us that amount. The pasta was left over and was consumed the next day again and again. We also tried the garlic bread and it was very crispy with delicious flavors of garlic and herbs. Update: went here earlier tonight for a belated birthday dinner...Anton's did *not* disappoint! Our server was well versed in the menu & recommended a fantastic white wine pairing (pinot grigio), was a nice 0 dry white, paired well with my main, Antonio. Since COVID, they no longer bring you bread, you have to ask (nudge). Wayyy smaller size but IDC. Also, no more fresh pepper table side, but our server was on it & brought fresh-cracked black peppercorns they use in Carbonara (big pieces, so you gotta love pepper like me) in a bowl to sprinkle over my pasta. Definitely far bigger pieces than a pepper grinder (but close to what I grew up eating). So, I lavishly spooned it over my pasta along with red pepper flakes she offered (I usually have to ask)! Server set the bar higher, wish she introduced herself. Food got 2 levels of mildly hot quick! Wooohhhh!!!! Loved it! Chefs were spot on tonight & by *FAR* the best food I've had here (34 check ins, not all of my visits were checked in)...best service by far (wish I got our server's name), and fantastic drinks! Cannot say anything better about Anton's quality & quantity of food tonight, as well as impeccable service & as always, cleanliness & menu accommodations! Portions are insane, but for about $20, you get a pretty delicious plate of pasta! Home of the "I finished my plate" challenge, if you manage to eat your plate of pasta solo, you'll be awarded one of their ball point pens declaring you've managed the feat. I never manage to do it, but the boyfriend and my dad recently did! I always manage to eat about half my plate and the rest I take home for lunch the next day! Highly recommend their conchiglie (shell pasta) fruitti di mare. Edit 4.0: back again to anton's hehehe. I love anton's so much and this time i tried the rigatoni con tonno and the manicotti anton's. The rigatoni con tonno was a meh for me so definitely avoid this. Tuna doesnt fit with pasta while the manicotti was very very good. Definitely recommended to try. Till the next time going to anton's again for the edit 5.0 where i have actually been to anton's probably more than 20 times though. read more
