Val made our vintage kitchen barstools beautiful and back to functioning. The base of one of the chairs was no longer able to support hardware to attach the legs. So he made a new base and reupholstered them. He had an excellent selection of sunbrella fabric swatches to choose from. I have a really cool mod couch which needs new cushions. I went to this business (by the way, it is indeed the back part of a house, so don't be afraid to head on back). I was impressed by the shop, they sew, embroider, fix furniture and do tailoring from that shop. I had brought my seat cushions in. Val brought out a catalog of cloth examples and I found a nice black vinyl leather to reupholster my couch. I needed one seat created so Val put me in his books (he was very busy) to come to my house on a Tuesday at 5:30 PM. He took my name, address and phone number. Said Tuesday comes and Val does not show up. No phone call, no follow up call later explaining why he's MIA. Luckily I had been to 3 other places to get quotes, and Val's quote was the most expensive. Needless to say, my business is going to someone who wants it. read more

What a gem. I called several businesses for furniture repair thru Home Advisor and none of them would provide pickup and delivery for repair of my leather recliner. When I called Val here at Furniture Repair, he gave me an estimate over the phone and said we would stop by and take a look since he was in the area. He confirmed the repair with a written estimate, I gave him a deposit, and he took the recliner back to his shop. In its original form, the removable seat was leather covered on one side only, but Val covered both sides of the seat. I used Val to repair the arm on my antique high back chair that had been broken in a couple of places during a move. No matter how many times I explained the delicate nature of my antiques the movers still handled them roughly. I was nervous even letting the chair from my sight as it will eventually go to The Huntington Library. But Val promised and reassured me the chair was in good hands. I was amazed and relieved when it came back. Not only did he good a great repair but also fixed the scratches on the wood legs that are common on older furniture. Val also did some repairs on an antique lamp that is irreplaceable. Now we can use and appreciate the lamp without hiding it in the closet. I highly recommend Val's work and old school craftsmanship. After reading his reviews on Yelp, I recently had Val repair a ladder back chair that had belonged to my great-grandmother and meant a lot to me. Someone had stood on the seat to change a lightbulb and had broken the rush seat. Val did a beautiful job of completely replacing the woven rush and he did it in a week. Val is amazing. He is a true artisan, passionate and knowledgeable about his work and very reasonably priced. We needed a large cabinet converted into a smaller cabinet, it needed to be cut down into about half. This was a decorative cabinet, so it took a delicate touch and knowledge of furniture to do it so it was not obvious it had just be cut in half. I called around to different furniture people and several of them said they couldn't or wouldn't do it. Val immediately said it was no problem and he could do it easy! He did a BEAUTIFUL job. In addition, I had him fix some chairs we had and not only was he able to educate us on what time period the chairs were from, but what type of wood they were (even though they were painted). He quoted me a price for the chairs but then said he would look into another way to fix them to try to safe me some money. In the end he was able to do it the cheaper way and saved me about half! When my all wood tv stand broke and split at one of the doors hinge, I though it was over for my tv stand. I tried taking apart my tv stand to get only the piece of wood that needed to be duplicated, and I made my tv stand worse by taking some of it apart. This is business at its best. Called on a Thursday afternoon and spoke to Val. Explained problem with broken recliner sofa. Quoted me reasonable price including pick-up and delivery. Arrived on time, as promised, next am and took sofa. Said would try to fix by next day (Saturday), but promised by Tuesday at latest. Called me Monday am and said sofa done and could deliver within hour. Arrived within 45 minutes with sofa fixed! While here at both pick-up and delivery, Val and assistant moved another chair for us to use while sofa being fixed; no charge. We inspected Val's work; neat, clean, sturdy (fixed with strong wood as frame was broken). Val was polite, professional, and true to his word. I called Val to repair the cane on my dining room chairs. I told him I had two chairs that were broken, but I would redo all six of my chairs. I wanted to be sure they would all look alike. He promptly came out to pick them up. When he saw them, he said the four chairs were fine and he would only need to repair the two. He took them and within about ten days returned them.
