I stopped by during (supposedly) hours of operation. Front door locked with padlocks, note on the door indicating "we are open," call this number. Standing in front of the store I did just that, got a recording, left a message. Nothing. No returned phone call, nothing. Realizing I hadn't heard back phoned again on Saturday, the following day, same thing. Left a message, nothing. Great stuff! But someone should tell these people a LOT has changed since 1910. There are so many styles that have emerged since then and it's good to have some variety in life. I love a solid wooden chair as much as the next guy, but sometimes you just want a lazyboy and a vibrating ottoman. I heard they are only open two days a week because they don't use cars and have to walk 35 miles to and from home. Talk about commitment! read more

Fantastic store / experience. Every time I visit Voorhees I see a piece of furniture I wish I could take home. Store isn't for everyone, but if you love arts and crafts and mission style furniture, I can't think of a better place to shop in LA. We commissioned Steve to make us 2 settles for our home in Hawaii about 7 years ago. We worked with Maryanne on upholstery selection and pillow fabrics and she was very helpful. Steve constructed a large plywood crate to hold the 2 settles and everything arrived in perfect condition and the quality of Steve's workmanship exceeded our expectations. I am a bit of a woodworker myself and I owned a pair of doors off of a Stickley style bookcase and sent Steve a picture of the doors and he selected a number if quarter sawn white oak boards with grain flake similar to the doors, rough planed them to the correct dimensions I needed to build the rest if the bookcase, and added them to the crate with the settles. Talk about great service! I recommend Steve and Maryanne highly! read more

I wish I could buy every piece of furniture that Voorhees sells--I obviously admire the Arts and Crafts style, which works perfectly in our 1919 Craftsman bungalow, but even more, I admire the customer service, knowledge, and fair prices offered by the owners, Mary Ann and Steve. We bought a dining room table and chairs from them, and over time hope to acquire more pieces to fill our home. We never felt pressured to buy anything, and have been back many times to peruse their offerings and just to chat with Mary Ann. She is friendly without being overhearing, and gives good advice when you can't decide exactly which piece is right. She also understands being on a budget, and can advise you on getting the most for your money. If you are looking for amazing antique furniture for your Craftsman home, look no further--Voorhees is the best. Voorhees Craftsman is a wonderful store for Arts & Crafts style furniture. Half the store is antiques and the other half is quality reproductions that they design and produce. I purchased a beautiful Stickley rocker from them. The store carries less expensive items to rare signed pieces; Stickley, Limbert, Roycroft... It's fun to stop by and see what antique treasures they have found. The owners, Mary Ann and Steve are friendly, easy to work with and knowledgeable. The store is open on Friday and Saturday, and their website has a lot of info and photos. read more

Our experience with Voorhees has been delightful and is always educational. We have been to the Pasadena store only twice, but came away each time with gained knowledge of Art and Crafts furniture. Steve and Mary Ann have the store divided into antique and reproduction sections (just like their excellent website). I am a bit of an A&C novice, but after an hour or more with Mary Ann, my enthusiasm and desire to learn more has escalated. Mary Ann is incredibly generous with her time in talking with us and answering my curiosities with expert explanation. On our first visit to Steve and Mary Ann's store, among other things, my wife and I each picked out a Stickley bookcase that we favored. Instead of settling on one we bought them both and are more than happy we did. I consider this more than a good starting point to further learn about the furniture and history of Gustav Stickley and his brothers. read more

We found an extraordinary light fixture for the house plus several paintings. Mary Ann is great to work with and so knowledgeable. We always find something new and interesting when we shop there. We have been customers of Voorhees Fine Craftsman furniture for a while and absolutely love their workmanship. We found them a little by accident as we were curious about what was in their front window. Upon entering the shop which was filled with many original Stickley pieces, we meet Maryann who was very helpful about the furniture and their excellent capability to reproduce the Stickley brand. My wife and I had our eye on a rocker, but didn't jump at the notion. We came home and after looking over our living room, we were back in the car and off to Voorhees. We purchased the rocker and now have a bookcase and desk on order. They have been great in every way and we look forward to a lasting relationship. read more

My husband and I love the Arts and Crafts style, and are long-time customers of Voorhees Craftsman Furniture. We have purchased several antique pieces from them, and each one has been honestly and accurately presented in both condition and price. We have also ordered several custom pieces from them, including reproductions of antiques as well as original designs. Their furniture is not only beautiful, it is functional and durable. Steve and Maryanne are incredibly knowledgeable. Their attention to detail is amazing -- elegant lines, softened corners and edges, solid joining. They select each piece of wood by hand, and expertly stain it so as to truly bring out the grain. Their quality of workmanship is unsurpassed, and their love of woodworking can be seen in each piece they create. We tour Bungalow Heaven in Pasadena each year during open house weekend, and we enjoy keeping track of how many Voorhees pieces we can spot in those lovely historic homes! In our own small house, we are slowly switching out our store-bought furniture for Voorhees furniture. It will take time, but it is worth the wait. read more

this place is arts & crafts heaven! not only do they have a wonderful collection of antique originals from stickleys to limberts to roycrofts, but this husband/wife duo have mastered the original art form (the whole package: impeccable design, wood selection, joinery, wood finishing, upholstery, all of it!), so when you enter the store, you cannot tell the antiques from their own creations. lots of furniture makers say things like, "making tomorrow's antiques today" but you still don't love their work like you love an antique. this is not the case with the voorhees. it is not only of the same quality as the antiques so that it will be tomorrow's heirloom antiques, but it has that same antique feel from day one. i am absolutely blown away by the craftsmanship. i don't think there are many people out there doing what they do (or, even if others try, accomplishing what they do). this stuff is amazing. and the antique selection is fantastic, and they really know their history. you can tell they are scholars of arts & crafts furniture in every way. make sure you check their hours, though. they're based out of northern california and (at least right now) they are only in this pasadena showroom fridays & saturdays. i guess they are busy at their craft the rest of the week! =) read more
