Heads up to the Glassel Park Frogtown Compound estate sale this weekend... PARKING IS ALMOST NON-EXISTENT! I went on Friday at 10ish (1 of the 1st ones in day 1) and parked 4 blocks away.. This is an industrial mixed use area with minimal street parking. There was a parking lot right behind that Earlybird should have made an arrangement with. Earlybird needs to do a better job of this in the future, as many people were so frustrated they did not stay and left. read more

Went to one of their sales today in Glendale, CA. There was a huge volume and everything was organized and many prices were reasonable and marked. There was at least one worker walking around giving people prices who needed them. Organized checkout and covid safe. I really appreciated that they reminded people to wear a mask over the nose and mouth. Would love to come to another one of their sales. read more

It is so much fun to shop with these guys. The fact that they deliver for free makes this my favorite way to shop. Their stuff is always varied and interesting. I appreciate the care they take in their photos and descriptions. I find real treasures and excellent prices on things I need. read more

Whoever mentioned Taylor's eBay price trolling is dead on. I wanted to buy an electronic item that wasn't priced. He went straight to eBay on his cellphone right in front of me and quoted the highest priced the item sold for. Asked if everything works and he said everything is as is. At least on eBay item are listed as tested, excellent, or for parts or repair plus guarantees. I haven't be back to their sale for the last 6 months and don't ever plan to. read more

Estate sales are intense. You are dealing with someone who is either dead or leaving their household, so everything is for sale. It can be overwhelming. Only talking about the experience as a bargain shopper. (I cannot imagine how hard it would be to have them host your sale .... ) The prices are so widely variable depending on who is doing the pricing. I'm talking I have assembled a bundle of many of the same things and get a $4 price or a $25 price. That's a huge difference. So get ready to leave what you just scavenged up. And the person doing the pricing gets annoyed when you think it is far too high. And I get annoyed cause I just wasted my time. It feels like .... a bad gambling trip. Get into the light and really look at what you have selected because like thrift stores, you have to look for damage. I tend to not go early anymore and wait until there is half off day or time or a bag sale because I really can do much much better at thrift stores. Which is where I would imagine a great deal of their items end up at. They will not give an address til the day before the sale. Understandable. The YouTube videos are so cute. The pictures that they send when you are on their mailing list are nice also. Very helpful. The people (fellow shoppers) are very aggressive in the earliest morning hours. Something to be aware of. Later it gets calmer. Now that Kayla is leaving them to work for the Dodgers, I do not know how things will shake out. read more

As I look around my apartment, it's easy to spot remnants of the numerous Earlybird sales I've been fortunate enough to attend. Antique and vintage items that elsewhere would have significantly lightened my wallet came into my life at bargain bin prices. The sales themselves seem to have a tendency to pop up east of the 101 (NELA, Pasadena, Altadena, Echo Park are fairly common locations). They're well-organized, taking advantage of the unique layouts of the homes that they sell out of. Truth be told, half the fun is getting to poke around houses you wouldn't normally find yourself in! Earlybird also seems to pride themselves on aesthetically-pleasing item arrangements, rather than simply dumping everything into bins. The immersive experience of walking the showrooms of IKEA comes to mind, though notably without the soulless vibe. The staff is a diverse group of characters who genuinely seem to enjoy what they do. If you've never gone to a sale yourself, take a look at their Instagram posts or amusing house tour YouTube videos to get a sense of the wonderfully cheerful vibe. If you hang near the register long enough, you'll likely be amazed at how much grace they exhibit under the pressure of demanding clientele and ruthless lowballers. Give Earlybird a shot and I almost guarantee you'll walk out with at least one new addition. Pro-tips: - Unfortunately, like most estate sales, you'll get the most aggressive shoppers closer to opening hours; but with some CBD and elbow-dodging preparedness, you'll be just fine. - They upload extensive photo galleries of their sales closer to the sale, which are usually linked on their Instagram account or on their website. These are always worth checking out. - They tend to offer bigger discounts closer to the end of the sale. The hottest stuff often goes on the early side (who gets the worm?!), but I've often been surprised by gems that are overlooked and still hanging around later in sales. - Don't forget that you can shop estate sales AND be a decent human being all at the same time. read more

BEWARE OF Gil and Taylor!! THEY are crooks. Pics were posted of items for sale at a recent Estate sale they were running. People drove from long distances for the sale and some camped out all night for a shot at buying some highly sought after collectibles. I myself got there at 4:30am. When the sale opened A Lot of items were nowhere to be found. When questioned Taylor acted stupid and Gil got defensive and became very RUDE claiming he "THINKS THE FAMILY CAME LAST NIGHT AND TOOK THEM"! THINKS?!!! Know where those items are? They are on eBay right now under the seller "maninorbit" who is located in Alta Dena... Exactly where Hughes Estate Sales and Early Bird are. What A HUGE COINCIDENCE!! I wonder if the owners know how these clowns are handling their items? I think it's time for Gil and Taylor to find a new line of work. They are crooks and liars. I have shopped estate sales for many years.. I have to say early bird liquidation is the best estate sale co I have ever dealt with. Taylor, Tony and Gil and the rest of the staff are incredibly professional, helpful, and super friendly! It such a lovely experience attending one of their sales! Great prices, super organized, knowledgeable and incredibly patient with customers! I travel quite a distance to shop at their sales. It is so worth to me! I would like to congratulate Earlybird on their evolution of their business model. The reply to my previous review reminded me that in the last 8 months they have made changes to their earlier business model and staff. They are still in competition with some of their own customers because they resale and due their own auctions via Hughes which I think is something of a conflict of interest. However having said that they are much more approachable and more willing to deal now than before. I avoided their sales for some time but word got around that they had changed and I have seen that for myself. So good on you guys for making those adjustments. read more

We hired Earlybird to perform the liquidation and clean out of my in-law's home and could not have been any happier with the service. They provided a proposal with a clear explanation of the work to be done, and when it could be completed. From start to finish they communicated extremely well, were very kind and supportive regarding questions we had, and performed the job in a professional manner, right on schedule. I am very disappointed by my experience this past Friday. I look forward all week to shopping estate sales. I have always had a positive experience with your sales in the past. This week I purchased several plants and pots. I asked your sales person, Christopher if he would please help me load my car. Christopher took the pot to the sidewalk. I ask if he could please put them in the car. They were much too heavy for me to carry. I also asked if I could help. His response was, "I think I've done enough for you. I mean come on, they are heavy!" I said, wow that is rude and went to go ask another sales person. He did help me. He was very polite and helpful. Christopher had much more to say but I was done listing to him. I have to grade you poorly for customer service and for hiring a rude sales person. I hope Christopher finds another job. read more

Let's start with the good, shall we? The representative, Kayla, is so sweet and very helpful. She truly understood what I wanted to achieve with our estate sale - I wanted everything that wasn't nailed down to be sold. She communicated well with me and helped alleviate my stress before the sale. She explained all that would be done to attract as many customers as possible to the sale. She is a gem! She is the reason for 2 stars instead of 1. Now....the sale... I was told to make sure to stay away from the property while the team sets up and during the sale so I went on a work trip. I watched their site and others for any notice of our sale...it didn't even show up till the afternoon before (with the exception of 1 video showing some of the items and a couple of Tweets). The day of the sale a few of my friends came to see what they might want to buy: one couple was treated so rudely that they didn't buy anything other than a $2 item when they were going to buy my pristine $2000 sofa - which was insufficiently under priced at approx $165!!!! Some items were WAY over priced and they didn't sell, and some others were ridiculously underpriced!!! According to another friend, several items of art and Christmas decor were so hidden that no one could see them. This left us with having to dispose of valuable items the next day for super cheap or give away! We were on a time crunch to get the house cleared out and us on the road to complete our move. When we came home later that evening after the sale, the house was an absolute mess!!! Apparently, after the sale, all that didn't sell was quickly shoved into the house or into a storage shed - expensive christmas trees were literally thrown into the shed and a secretary hutch was broken in two and also shoved into the shed (with no chance for resale). The place was a disaster area!!! And still so much left that could have been sold. Why wasn't I given 2 days for our sale!? We had been given an option to have a company come in and clear everything that was left out and taken to a charity....for an additional $500!!!!! (I had declined but inadvertently initialed that I accepted it - so be careful with contracts!!) Darling Kayla came to the rescue and had the company waive the $500 fee to clear out - but by the time they came Monday morning, we and a handful of friends had gotten most of the left over stuff either sold or given away. To sum up, this is not the service that I expected. Especially @ 50% of the take while others are 30-40%. I don't really believe that someone with decades of appraising experience came in and price things. I don't believe that at the end of the sale the team took any care with the remaining items. I don't believe that it should have taken almost a month to receive my check and itemized list. I don't believe that I can recommend this company. read more

After shopping estate sales for decades, I am so glad the Earlybird Company entered into sales in the Pasadena/SGV area. Every week they successfully pull off challenging sales. They make fast work completing one household full after another with a professional consistency while maintaining a welcome humorous demeanor -- I've seen people get downright vicious at these sales and the Earlybird staff just let it roll off their shoulders with a few laughs. I look forward to a new house full of interesting items every week. They've earned my best rating. read more

Earlybird hosts my favorite estate sales!They do a great job of setting up the homes and displaying everything neatly for all the shoppers. If you're not already aware... a lot of estate sales will have you digging through mountains and boxes of various items but at an Earlybird sale, you can see the effort that goes into organizing everything inside and outside of the house to be inviting and easy to browse through for the customers. I love when these guys have their estate sales! I just recently started getting their emails and gotta say that I've been to two of them and stumbled on great finds both times! The staff is pretty chill and even offered to help, but I'm strong and cheap so I didn't feel like tipping therefore loaded it myself but if I needed it, good to know the help was there. I would agree Kayla R is a key to the Earlybird Estate Liquidation (EEL). I found Stewart S's remarks worth reading. His thoughts were objective and not emotional. I will add that Kayla R's reply to Stewart's thoughts was excellent. Whatever Kayla R is or isn't, she gives her 100%+ to make EEL function smoothly. She's down in the trenches, so to speak, and works hard, very hard, at what she does from my observations of randomly attending some of these EEL sales. She has selected a good crew, staff of people supporting EEL as a general overall comment. Yes, some staff people could do with a little more training or maybe thinning out from time to time. But as one person, she carries a huge load on her shoulders. One of those is making the video to entice potential "customers" to attend the EEL sales, themselves. She has to be "on" and fresh with an entertaining charm every EEL sale -- that is not easy to do. Try it sometime! As sales she a whirling dervish to keep things moving. I doubt she's the appraiser of every item for sale. Yes, some items are overpriced. I don't think any can be under priced. Her job is to move as much of the goods as possible such that at the end of the EEL sales, as little is left as possible. In doing so, some items may sell for less than we as owners think they should. That might be the nature of this business. And we can say people don't turn out at such liquidation sales to buy at market prices. They turn out to "get a bargain". As for Stewart, I could have easily written as he did. He presented his position well, especially to recognize how well Kayla R does in the circumstances. A lifetime of accumulating items is gone in a day's time. It's heart-breaking to think if he the owner saw their home the way "bargain hunters" overrun it. Simply hear-breaking if you think about it. I'm glad she realizes her staff on the cash registers need to be aware to treat customers with respect but at the same time, some customers are neither respectful of the items being sold or respectful at all. A firm hand is needed for those who seek to run circles around EEL (or Kayla R herself). I do think that those who happen to arrive near closing time ought to be allowed 15 minutes to look over and buy things versus "we are closing in 3 minutes" or whatever. I mean the purpose of EEL is to move the inventory out the door. In its own way, estate liquidations is a tough business. read more
