The painters are all long term employees curated over 30 years and it shows! The crew was 3-5 people and they were very well organized, friendly, and most of all, hard working! The crew lead, Javier, was like a master overseeing his apprentices while working harder than everyone. Chris came on site several times over the week to check on things as well. I was amazed by all the prep work the crew did and well they cleaned up at the end of each day! Chris says the prep work is the most important part painting and it pays to do it right. Our vision for the project was to refurbish our home to become more modern, which meant choosing a different exterior paint color. Unable to decide which colors to choose, we asked Chris what colors he would recommend. Not only was he able to immediately recommend different colors, but the color scheme he chose for us fitted our home perfectly and was exactly what we had in mind. Chris and his team's work is of the highest quality. Many of our home's eaves had been damaged by termites and needed replacing; many of the wooden boards were not only very high up and hard to reach, but also very large. Yet, he said it was no problems and his carpenters were able to make our eaves look brand new. They even went beyond replacing the badly damaged boards and helped sand and fill in the rest of our eaves! The paint was also of the same level of quality. Chris will help you choose the most premium paint that both looks nice and is more grime resistant than other paints. His painting team is highly skilled: there are no paint bubbles or flakes, no messy streaks or flecks to be seen, and they'll make sure any lights or decorations on the exterior walls are removed or completely covered. The greatest merit of Chris and his team, however, is their work ethic. We were in the middle of a heat dome when they started work, meaning temperatures were in the high 90s to 100s all day. Despite the unpleasant weather, Chris's team would arrive on time every day and work with no complaints. The workspace was always kept clean and organized at the end of each day; upon finishing, they made sure the surrounding area was extra clean. The most surprising thing is, the team was able to finish the project in a week, a whole week faster than the original 2 week estimate! It is amazing how quickly yet masterfully they were able to complete the work in these summer conditions, and we thank them for all their hard work (not to mention that they were able to start work a day or two after Chris's appraisal). His team is also very flexible. We initially weren't planning on repainting our garage since it was newer, but after seeing how it looked with the new colors, we decided we wanted to repaint it as well. Even though they were wrapping up when we asked them, they were able to immediately purchase the needed paint and still finish on the same day! Huge safety risk to Jose/Brian (his only crew at time of job) + owner liability risk. Sprayed over everything w/out cleaning/prep (look at window shim). Splattered paint on terra cotta tile walkways + clay roof tile. Painted dirt/sand into railing, sprayed paint on fence (this part of fence not in contract). Trampled on landscaping. Communicated these concerns to Paul constantly from the beginning. Had to stop them mid-job to prevent more damage. Huge cost to undo work already done. We reluctantly agreed to let him come back and fix after realizing he only has 2 workers. On 9/7, after waiting 6 weeks+, with no estimated return date and house in shambles, we had to move on and file a complaint (started 7/9, worked 9 days, made them stop 7/20, agreed to let them fix on 7/29, never returned). Said they had started apartment project but promised to fix as soon done and they had no other jobs and wouldn't book any more until ours is fixed. Complaint is now in the hands of contractor's board. I will say, Paul was nice and respectful throughout this process, guaranteed we'd be happy with results. But the work resulted in so many more problems that now need to be fixed and we were in limbo waiting for them to come back with no action. Now we have to pay someone $$$$ to fix their mistakes. Absolutely cannot recommend this business. So disappointing and don't know how to get this worked corrected. So much worse than when we started. Just look at the photos.

Some background: 8 years ago I wanted my house painted and got talked into Tex-Cote, a truly awful product that started bubbling and peeling off the house a few years later. A few weeks ago, one of those predatory companies that canvass neighborhoods looking for work scared me into accepting a ridiculously high bid, which, after discussing with friends, I cancelled. Several calls and bids followed; some who wouldn't even bother working in LA County, some insanely high bids, and some insanely low. After hiring a guy on the insanely low end (warning!) who worked 45 minutes with high-pressure water and said it wasn't going to work and I would have to have the house sandblasted, I found Quicksand. Joey came out to look at the house and explained how and why the others' bids were too high or low. He answered all my questions openly and honestly (oh, and FYI, they are the company others subcontract sandblasting out to). He gave me a very reasonable quote, and was the FIRST company to know Long Beach has very specific laws requiring testing for lead paint and permit for sandblasting! I paid a reasonable deposit, with payment for sandblasting and stucco due after each was done. Communication was excellent. They scheduled the job promptly, showed up and completed the sandblasting in one day. I picked a stucco color and finish and the stucco crew was out and doing the job in no time. They did a beautiful job! The crews are courteous and hard-working, and Joey supervised the project from beginning to end. They even came out the day after the stuccoing and installed new vent covers since there were several missing, and the rest were beat to hell. All in all, a wonderful experience! Joey is personable and funny, and a joy to work with. I highly recommend Quicksand if you need your house sandblasted/re-stuccoed.
