Mike recently repaired several cracks in my plaster ceiling. I called Mike again as years ago he repaired a crack in the ceiling in my kitchen. About 10 years have passed since then and his quality work has not failed. Mike comes from a family of dedicated professionals in the plaster restoration field. He knows how to correctly repair your plaster with great precision. I will always call Mike for internal or external plaster jobs. You can't get a better person to restore any plaster job. read more

We contacted Mike at The Plaster Master for a lath and plaster repair at our 1930 home. Finding skilled craftspeople who truly understand historic lath and plaster work is becoming increasingly rare, and we feel fortunate to have found Mike.. If you own an older home and want restoration work done properly -- with respect for the home's history and original construction -- we would recommend Mike at The Plaster Master without hesitation. He communicated easily and quickly, arrived on time and cleaned up the work area prior to leaving. His actual work receating what he termed a "unique finish" on our wall is simply beautiful. The finished surfaces blend seamlessly with the existing plaster, making it nearly impossible to tell where repairs were made. On top of all this -- he's quite charming. Highly recommended!! read more

Contacted The Plaster Master for some stucco repairs. Mike was very responsive and was able to come out within a few days to assess the damage. He arrived on time on the scheduled repair date and was able to finish the work within a day. We were very happy with the work and explanation of the process. We would hire him again for any additional stucco work and would definitely recommend him to our friends, family, and neighbors! read more

They did two repairs for us. We had to ask them to fix dix one of the two repairs. They did and it looked just as bad. Nice people, not good work. In the end we just gave up and paid them. Sorry to leave a bad review but I would never use them again. read more

Mike and his team did an amazing job repairing my lath and plaster wall that had started to crack from water damage. He was prompt coming out and gave a fair quote and did the work in exactly the time he stated for the price he quoted. Once the original plaster was removed, Mike and Jose also took the time to run water tests to determine where there might be trouble spots and helped seal those as well. They were also great preparing the area and making sure it was clean led up once the work was finished. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about plastering and historical craftsmanship. read more

I was looking for someone who specializes in lath and plaster (instead of dry wall) to help patch some of the work I had done for my 100 year old home. Mike was incredibly friendly, diligent and communicative. The work he and the team executed was top notch, and I would highly recommend his work. I also love that this is a multi-generational family business! read more

Mike (and Nico) were terrific. I live in a 1926 apartment building with "old world charm" - by which I mean every single wall (and ceiling) of my unit is lath and plaster. An improperly installed wax ring in the bathroom of the apartment above me resulted in a slow motion leak that caused wet walls and mold. After having the walls and ceiling opened up to deal with the mold I needed someone to come in and restore the original plaster (all the "modern" contractors wanted to patch with drywall). Mike responded quickly, gave me what I thought was an extremely reasonable quote, and arranged to come make the fix in a couple of days. The work was done quickly and with care and respect for my furnishings. And the patch is perfect. Not only is Mike very knowledgeable and professional, he's also a very personable guy with a lot of great L.A. stories. I highly recommend! read more

We reached out to Mike to get a quote on replacing some interior plaster that had gotten wet from the rain and he was able to take a look the same day. He explained how water affects plaster and that the walls were not damaged and only needed some paint. We saved so much money by not having to repair our walls even though we were ready to replace them and Mike didn't even charge us for the assessment! read more

My wife and I are restoring a historic, prewar Spanish-deco house in Glendale. The original interior lath and plaster is largely intact; however after a full electric rewire, we needed authentic, period correct repairs in order to preserve the original plaster. Mike and his son, Nico (a union plasterer for the studios), conducted repairs in 11 rooms. From start to finish, the whole job was completed in 2.5 days. Also, they were able to start work right away. Their work is impeccable. For anyone who doesn't know, lath and plaster is a trade (and art form) that is all but dead in the 21st century. Like true craftsmen, Mike and Nico have garnered their knowledge through decades of tutelage by Mike's father-in-law, who repaired lath and plaster in Los Angeles about a century ago. If you're interested in plaster repairs and sculpting (for fireplaces etc) you should strongly consider Mike. Both Mike and Nico are some of the last true plaster craftsmen in the old school. Their expertise and talent preserved the dignity of our house and they'll do the same for yours. read more

Mike Casa of The Plaster Master and his crew were amazing! The final result is perfect and the new stucco texture is an exact match. I'm usually nervous during large house projects, but Mike put me at ease. He has an encyclopedia knowledge of stucco and plastering techniques. I like to think sometimes the old-fashioned ways are better and a more durable fix. I had to have the lower section of two exterior stucco walls broken out due to huge cracks and stucco falling off. Mike had a smart solution to add a weep screed to prevent future stucco delaminating. It made sense to replace rusted out vents at this time. I ordered copper vents which look nice and will never rust. Little did I know that the vents would be complicated to work with and Mike's crew had to spend additional hours shimming out the vents to get everything true and level. I'm fortunate that Mike and his crew knew how to expertly handle this situation. The Plaster Master is a true Pro and a magician of stucco. He's also reasonable on pricing and all his crew wears face masks. read more

I hired the Plaster Master to replace the exterior plaster on my spa. Water damage had caused the player to flake after it was last redone about five years ago. Michael suggested that he put a water blocking layer on the prevent this again. He did that and then the top layer as well. It came out great and looks like it will last! read more

I just had my window frames replaced in my 1920s house due to leaking from last years rains. The plaster on my walls have very beautiful and intricate texture that Mike was able to restore to its original beauty. Not only was he professional, timely, and extremely talented, he is an absolute pleasure to work with and extremely respectful. Plaster is a dying art and he takes great pride in his skills that were passed down to him. What an amazing and talented artist!!! read more

I was eager to meet with Michael because of the great reviews for him and his work. He was initially very responsive. I let him know my availability for the weekend and he assured me he could make it work to come out and quote the job. The agreed upon time came and after a few minutes had passed I followed up with a text to ask if we were still on. I got no response until the next day, from his number but a woman named Virginia, saying sincerest apologies and that Michael would call to reschedule for the next weekend. Assuming maybe there was some sort of medical or family emergency for a highly rated craftsman to stand a potential customer up, I responded, "thanks for the response, hope everyone is okay." The response I got said simply, "Yes all is well with everyone. Just not enough hours in the day." ??? I, too, am quite busy. In fact, I didn't take my kids to the park like they had been begging because I needed to be home for this appointment. I was hopeful for working with the Plaster Master but the disregard for someone else's time is a deal breaker for me. read more

Mike is a fine craftsman but a poor communicator. Twice he stood me up for appointments to assess the repair. No communication - i took off work for one and waited all afternoon for another. Finally i sent pics and he gave me a quote but when i asked what the quote included he never responded. i appreciate his work but not his ethic. Moving on. And you might want to as well. read more

Mike was amazing. We have a old home with difficult textures and have not had luck in the past with other companies. Not only was Mike excited to work on the project due to its original texture he did a great job matching the rest of the house. Highly recommend read more

Mike is knowledgeable and super nice. He's been in the plaster business a long time and can quickly understand what a projects needs. He was able to provide a solution without unnecessary time or energy being wasted. Unfortunately, Mike was injured before our project started. He was cool enough to refer me to someone else he trusted. Very cool that he helped me even though he couldn't do the job himself! The project was completed by the other person and everything turned out great. Thank you again, Mike. read more

Michael and his wife came out on a Sunday to give us an estimate on the interior of our 1921 bungalow that had cracking drywall from foundation settlement throughout. Michael was super knowledgeable and gave us a fair price for a big undertaking. He and his team, I believe it was Carlos and Niko, did an amazing job. They finished on time and the repairs aren't visible at all. Best of all, the sanded and primed all the drywall, which saved me $ when it came time to paint. At the end of every day they left the house spotless too. They even took time to hose down the porch and walkway in front of our house each day. Really nice, honest people and outstanding work. Thanks! read more

Our 1906 Craftsman house has lath and plaster walls with a unique texture. When we did a complete electrical rewire, there was no choice but to make holes in those beautiful walls! Fortunately for us, we were referred to Mike, the Plaster Master! Mike looked over our walls, marveled at their unique texture, and figured out just how it was originally done. Not only was he friendly and very attentive to customer service, he also did an amazing job patching up those walls. Once we repaint, it will look like they were never touched! Amazing. I highly recommend contacting The Plaster Master for any patching/repair work, particularly for walls that need special TLC. read more

Michael Casa did a great job repairing a major opening in my home caused by the collapse and removal of the rear steps. The job was fairly complex and his long experience in the field of stucco allowed him to deal with the following: 1. Stucco repair for a house built in the 1930s but likely renovated several times in its life 2. Repairing a section of bad cripple wall framing which needed to be removed and replaced to make a good foundation for the stucco 3. Stucco repair that included the step plate of the back door. He was able to repair the stucco so that the step plate was supported and would not crack the stucco when stepped on 4. Stucco repair on a relatively thin wall in close proximity to interior surfaces without any damage to that surface The repair looks seamless and the texture of the repair exactly matches the texture of the existing stucco. I also had him patch up some small cracked patches and those look great too. The price he quoted was fair and exactly aligned with prices quoted by other stucco repair contractors. He can be a bit hard to pin down for a consultation but it was definitely worth it to hire his services. read more

Mike and his crew are awesome!! After getting plumbing and electrical done, our Tudor house looked like Swiss cheese. Mike came in, and knew exactly how to match the original wall finish and also fixed holes in the stucco outside. His team were very clean and professional, and will definitely call him again for future jobs. I cannot recommend the Plaster Master highly enough! read more

Great job on plaster repair in 1930s home. Took extra time to try to identify leaks.

I had a relatively small job of replastering a wall in my home, and -- as other reviews have said -- there were other businesses that wouldn't take the work unless it was a minimum of $2,500. Michael saved the day, sending Mario out to fix the problem quickly, expertly and at a reasonable price. I would absolutely go back to The Plaster Master for any future work that needs to be done. read more

I cannot recommend the Plaster Master enough. I was losing sleep over a job of matching plaster on the front of our 1931 home and had seen so many examples of failures of less qualified so called craftsmen. The Plaster Master delivered on so many levels - great communication, fair price, sense of urgency and an amazing finished product. He is a credit to his trade and like a traveler from a past time when craftsmen had a passionate attention to detail and did not finish a job unless it was to all parties' satisfaction. Highly recommended! read more

After speaking on the phone in regards of my repair, Mike asked to send more pictures and got zero response either through text or Yelp. It would be nice if he decline to take this project instead waiting for his estimates. Should've read their reviews. read more

When I first spoke with Mike, he told me I couldn't make an appointment directly with him, I needed to talk to his wife. When she finally called days later, she wouldn't set an appointment but said she'd call later in the week. She didn't. She did, however, call on Sunday afternoon asking if we could meet them at our house in an hour. My fiancé and I dropped everything, rushed out the door and drove across town to make the appointment. They never showed. 20 minutes after our appointment, Mike's wife left a message saying they'd "forgotten" they had another appointment in San Pedro and they'd be at our place an hour and a half later. Seriously? So we waited. And we waited. They didn't show. We tried calling but our calls went straight to voice mail. When it got to be more than 2 hours after our original appointment, we finally gave up and texted we were leaving. A half hour later Mike called. The explanation for why they didn't show or answer our calls? He was talking and didn't know how to let us know. Sorry. Really? How about one of the following: 1) Answer the calls from the client you set an appointment with earlier that very same day; 2) Have your wife who is with you phone us; 3) Say, "Excuse me, I was supposed to meet another client, let me give them a call"; or, 4) Don't make appointments you don't intend to keep. Nope. It was easier to blow us off and waste our Sunday afternoon. I even waited nearly a week to post this review, trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and hoping they'd apologize for wasting our time and set another appointment. That didn't happen either. Initially, I was impressed with Mike's passion for plastering. He told me, "Plastering is a dying art." After our experience, I'd say that in addition to plastering, manners, common sense, and respect for other people's time are also in real serious trouble. read more

I'll make this short. Zilch on follow through on their part. My initial phone call was returned with which a tentative appointment date was set. In spite of several follow up phone calls on my part, the calls were never returned. read more

The Plaster Master is as good as it gets! When a condo I manage had a leak bust through their ceiling and was then ripped apart by plumbers to repair that leak, I was left with a huge hole that needed to be repaired ASAP. I wasn't sure if plaster was the way to go for such a large hole, but with the texture on the walls and ceiling, I knew I needed a more artistic approach than just a drywall patch. Mike was the perfect find! Not only did he and his wonderful wife Virginia come by to inspect and give an estimate FOR FREE (I have never been offered this courtesy in the countless dealings I have had with repairmen, handymen, etc. in LA), he said he could do the repair the next day! Honestly, I was nervous about whether the finished product would match with the existing texture on the ceiling and walls, but after Mike and his assistant (can't remember his name) finished the job, it looked identical. A perfect match! I could not be happier with the outcome, and the pricing was very fair. I would highly recommend him to any person needing such a service. You know, another bonus to hiring Mike was seeing the way that a plaster expert does the job. It is truly a unique skill that requires a very talented hand, and Mike is very good at what he does. Be prepared though if you ask about the process. Mike is a talker :) read more

He patched and repaired the plaster in a few of the rooms in my house. He added a significant cost to the final bill for each room, going way over his own estimates. Finally before he did the last room I told him I would not pay him a dollar more than the written estimate he gave me. So guess what he did? He told me he wasn't going to do the last room. What a dishonest crook he was. read more

Found Mike on Yelp and was impressed by the reviews and the video link to Bob Vila. Enlisted him to fix the ceiling in a hallway and the master bedroom of our 80+ year old house with lath and plaster textured walls and ceilings. I can only say that all of the work: 1)Prep 2)Demo 3)Lath and Plaster 4)Clean up were done with equal amounts of care and expertise. Mike and his crew (includes a couple of sons) did a great job. I can't say enough about the work and experience. He says what he does and does what he says. A real gem in the construction/repair business. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. read more

Big job replastering my living room with vaulted ceiling and much of entry plus two big plumbing repair breaks and the results are XLNT! Had a few bids, yet none won my confidence and hit the right price like The Plaster Master. Mike Casas was easy to talk to and work with, is truly a master at this and gave my job 100% of his focused experience. Really good energy every day and always on time - nice that his two sons and wife help make this family business run so well. The work is beautiful, finished on schedule and I love it! read more

We have not worked with Mike yet, but just from meeting him and seeing his work it's clear The Plaster Master is likely the most skilled and knowledgeable person in the trade. We look forward to having Mike utilize his skills on our historic Spanish building. read more

Mike Casas isn't called the Plaster Master for nothing. He's been mastering his craft for the last 40+ years, and it shows. His family-run operation includes his wife, Virginia, who runs his office, and his sons, who work side by side with him. My husband and I found Mike on Yelp and have used him now for three jobs in our 1927 home. He's a true craftsman, reasonably priced, and cleans up meticulously (plaster is a dirty job). I left him and his crew unsupervised in my home for two days (with my two cats) for the last job he did -- not something I would do with just any contractor. The job turned out great in his very capable hands. As an aside, he's also a bit of a raconteur. I love hearing about his childhood in Frogtown, where I now live. The Plaster Master delivers -- you will not be disappointed! We had the Plaster Master himself, Michael Casas, out to plaster the walls of our newly renovated kitchen. He, his son and assistant did an excellent job at a great price! Couldn't be happier! Of 7 businesses I contacted, four others said my job (an exterior wall previously sheathed with wood) was too small for them, one said it was too big, and one didn't respond. Michael picked up the call himself and was ready to start the job the next day. On time for his estimate look-over, on time for the work - and kept me advised the entire time. A true craftsman, and happy to explain all the details that made his work so special. He and his helpers worked two days in blistering heat, pretty much without a break. Left the worksite cleaner than when they started. I'd hire him again in a heartbeat! read more

I called and Michael came by later that afternoon. The project is a bathroom with proper old school plaster that needed new plaster around a ceiling fan and near the shower, and also the walls and ceilings resurfaced, cracks repaired, etc. He and his team came by a couple of days later and did a stellar job. In addition to doing great work, they left the place clean and ready to paint. The price was more than fair for the proper old-world craftsmanship he and his team provided. Highly recommended. read more

Had a great experience with Mike Casa, the Plaster Master. We had a pipe burst above the ceiling in the living room of our 1924 home. Mike is old school and knows his stuff. He made sure that he cut enough of the ceiling but not too much, took great care to seal off the area so that there was minimal debris floating around, and when the plumbing job was done, restored the plaster so that you could never tell there was a patch. It was seamless and beautiful. He was also really good about coordinating with the plumbers, so we were not left hanging with a hole in the ceiling for days. He and his associates do quality work. read more
