He identified the issue quickly and highlighted the lazy workmanship from our kitchen installers (Taranto Construction, Inc in Claremont, CA) who were subcontracted through Lowe's (who we purchased our kitchen from). The shelves collapsed because of loose screws from lazy installers at Taranto Construction, Inc. It's infuriating to have to pay someone to come solve an issue that goes back to completely loose screws in the hardware that would've taken an extra 5 seconds to properly tighten at the initial install. But they know people won't see it, so they cut corners. DO NOT EVER USE TARANTO CONSTRUCTION INC in Claremont CA for a kitchen install, or any Lowe's in the surrounding area, as this is who they refer the work to. After spending a short amount of time with Walter, it's clear he knows what he is doing and is a professional. He even tightened and adjusted other cabinet doors in our kitchen he noticed issues with that had nothing to do with the cabinet shelves he came to fix. Walter is a true CRAFTSMAN, not just some guy who works for a chain who wants to convince you to…read morebuy their product. We did a reface of our cabinets and Walter was the right guy to do it! Walter worked with us to pick the right product and colors. We went with Shinnoki real wood veneer panels. They are beautiful and durable. Once they got the veneer up, they routed then hand-filed all of the openings. Then that meticulously painted the face frames to match the veneer. They even painted around the drawers where you can see very little of the painting they did. That shows a lot of pride! Walter also gave us the look of frameless cabinets even though we would have had to replace the cabinet boxes in order to make them frameless. That's a lot of extra work. We got a custom job for less than the price of a non-custom job. In the photos you can see the detail I'm talking about. I've included before and after pictures. The before pictures are all dark, ugly drawers and doors. The after pictures are the modern, two-tone look. In one photo in which I have a drawer pulled out with hot pads in it, Walter designed that and made it fit. There was not a drawer in there before because it's under the stove and the gas line was in the way. But Walter moved it. Walter's very conscientious and not afraid to tell you if he thinks something is not going to look good. He'll do whatever you want, but we learned that he knows what he's talking about. There was basically a lack of knowledge or willingness to help (instead of saying i am not sure but i will find out, i get it there is no way of knowing). I am thankful Sherry was our go to person and i am also thankful to the warehouse staff who stepped up to help while the person behind the desk was ignoring customers and not even informing of a wait or someone going on break. Instead someone from the warehouse who picked my order came to me directly to help without me asking. Although every place has their pros and cons, i would say that this place is very lucky to have people like Sherry and the warehouse operators. In terms of product, i am not yet able to comment on the received materials as they are still in their boxes, but my wife and i do love the options at cabinet city especially compared to other companies out there. That being said, if you use this company, be prepared to be your own quality control manager! We started this project because of a leak and mold damage under our kitchen sink. We had 2 full cabinets replaced and the rest refaced, with new tile backsplash and granite countertops. First, we were told by the General manager, Ernie, that what makes their company different is that they replace the full face frames when refacing the cabinets, instead of just putting the new wood over the top of the old. When Art came out to do the work, he wasn't going to replace the face frames! When the owner, Jose, came out at my insistence, he said -"We don't usually do it that way, but we will do it that way for you." WHAT?!?!? That was Ernie's main selling feature to us! And so it began. The tile guy, Dave, had his assistant install the tile while he worked on the appliances. I think it was so they could get out of there in a day instead of the 2-3 days we were told the work would take. I don't really have a problem with that- except the tile was all uneven! We had to insist it be redone. Dave said the could just take out the uneven tiles- which even I knew wasn't going to work, and most of it was uneven! So we had to buy more tile and they had to tear the entire thing out and start over, including the drywall!! The final result was fine, although Dave told us to seal it ourselves in a few days- really?!? He should have come back and finished the job properly. We also had to call him out to fix a leak under the sink!! That's right- a leak! Which is what started this whole mess!!!When we told Jose about all of the problem, all we got was a 'sorry' as he waited for his final check. We're just glad it's over and hope we never have to see them again. I will say that the granite guy did an amazing job. The couple who did the staining and sealing of the cabinets also did a great job and were very helpful in covering up some bad spots in the wood that Art left. Also, for you ladies out there, make sure you have a man ready to make the phone calls and handle any issues for you! They pretty much ignored anything I said unless my husband called them about it! So- if you use this company because of the low price- be prepared to keep an eye on things and have an exercise in patience!!!!
