Love this place. Always a great experience. The teenagers working there are always so well mannered and do a great job with their tour sample. I got the power supply (coffee, dulce leche, cinnamon) and leather ( brown butter chocolate chip cookies). Small size is more than enough ice cream for me. So delicious!
Spent an amazing weekend in Del Mar. The scenery, the people, the seafood made for a true getaway. After dinner we naturally started to think about something sweet to cap off the night. Found An's nearby, but when we walked over there was a line down the street, so we decided to come back the next day. We came back the next day after lunch and there was nobody in line! The setup here is different than other ice cream / gelato shops. Here they have a limited selection of flavors that they change every few weeks, and it's customary for them to give you a taste and explanation of each one before ordering, similar to a wine tasting. After the tasting they ask you to choose 2 flavors. I don't remember the flavor names, but they're named after iconic hats. I had a flavor that had mango and passion fruit mixed with a flavor that tasted straight out of a See's candy box. Wife had a super dark chocolate with matcha. All I can say are the boldness of flavors they achieve here can only be done thru using the highest of quality ingredients. Truly remarkable their flavors. They are extremely indulgent without being too rich, hard to explain but each bite was so addictive. We can't wait to return to Del Mar and bring the whole family (and dogs) next time, and An's will be a must visit on that trip. True 5 star, must try spot. (Sorry about the messy half eaten pics...)
One of my favorite Gelato shops in SD! Although it's a sister location to An's Dry Cleaning, the line is a lot shorter, especially if you go right when it opens. I love how the staff does flavor tours, where you get to sample and hear about each flavor before you order. I got a large double scoop of the leather (chocolate chip cookie) and visor (pistachio) and loved how nutty visor was. I would recommend pairing nutty visor with cypress if you're interested in a dark dubai chocolate note. This shop is close to the beach, but there is a paid garage attached to the plaza. If you are willing to walk, there is street parking in the vicinity.
The lore of these An's gelato spots is so cool - love that they really pay homage to the previous business and that it's embedded in the store name, decor, and flavor names. Their gelato is truly the best I've had in my life - dare I say, I enjoyed this more than the gelato I had in Italy. The ceremonial strawberry matcha flavor was DIVINE if you're a matcha lover. Such strong pure matcha flavor, just the right amount of sweetness and creaminess. The strawberry jam is homemade. The strawberry sorbet was strawberry galore - 6 lbs strawberries per batch. I love that they let every customer do the flavour tour. It does crank up the line times but it's worth it. Also, it's only a long line if you catch them at a busy time like weekends or after work. This place was so good we came back 3 times on our 1 week trip here. Not to mention, the staff is SO nice!

My co-residents and I knew that we had to stop by one of An's ice cream shops before leaving SD and I am so glad we did because this was the best gelato I've ever had. The experience was overall just so fun too because we were literally able to sample every flavor before ordering and they were all so good that it was hard to decide. The workers were so sweet and chatty and overall just added to the positive experience! There's a few tables inside and I absolutely LOVED their decorations!! There were so many hats all around and it was such a cute concept. For the gelato, I decided to get a small with the flavors Leather and Cypress. The Leather was a brown butter flavor with chocolate chips and I was so impressed. It was soo rich and so addicting that I bought a pint of it to bring home, even though I lived a 2 hour drive away. The Cypress was a super rich chocolate flavor which I also loved! The slight bitterness was a great contrast to the sweetness of the Leather. I was so addicted and would definitely recommend this place!
We really enjoyed our visit to An's Hatmakers while we were in the area. First off, we went on a weekday so there weren't any lines. The staff who took us on our "flavor tour" was very energetic, friendly, and knowledgeable of the menu. We ended up selecting their Mixmaster (vanilla, cinnamon, salted butter) and Leather (brown butter, cookies) flavors. We love a good sweet/salty moment so these flavors were right up our alley. We found parking in the paid garage behind the shop, and we'd definitely return for some tasty gelato!
this place has been on my bucket list for so long since i saw that an's dry cleaning was voted as the #1 ice cream shop in america, and i definitely think that this shop lived up to the hype! i also love a good ice cream shop that does fusion flavors well, and this one hit all of my expectations. the workers here are super sweet and patient! every party that comes in is allowed to sample all of the available flavors without having to ask individually, and i loved the concept since i was able to try all that they had. i ended up choosing the sagada (ube & coconut caramel) and leather (brown butter & chocolate chip cookie) in a waffle cone, and this was SO yummy !! the gelato is extremely smooth and not too sweet, and the flavors i got meshed well together. my friends and i all really loved the leather flavor and even bought a pint to-go! the workers also PACKED my cone and made sure i got my money's worth hehe. i want to definitely visit the other shops if i'm ever in san diego again!
Hands down the best gelato in San Diego, and maybe even America. The flavors are super unique and all created from scratch. There's 3 An's locations but this is my favorite because of the outdoor seating options. It's has an adorable little patio in the front with shaded tables. The employees are all very knowledgeable and friendly.
I had mentioned to my bf that I was in the mood for something sweet to end our night. We headed downstairs of the plaza and he immediately pointed out this gelato shop and informed me that the line has been non stop out the door since we arrived to the plaza for happy hour. I figured it must be good so I took a shot on it. I was surprised to hear my bf wanted to try as well since he isn't much of a desserts person, so that's saying something! Although the line was out the door, I'd say we only waited about 10 minutes. We did notice the line growing even more so as we inched closer to ordering and upon our departure. It's super cold inside! They've got the AC blowing at 60 degrees, but for fair reason. Not much seating is available inside, but what they do have is great for two or three couples and slightly larger group. There are a couple of tables right out front as well. You can also find a stand up fridge with ready to go pints if you're interested in more volume or a shorter wait time! The lovely young lady asked if it was our first time visiting so she offered us their tasting flight of all the flavors. Even their cleansing palette flavor was delicious (tasted similar to a mint mojito). Everything was so tasty, it's hard to have a favorite. But I was happy to know you can get 2 flavors, no matter the size ordered!! What we ordered: Large Cup of Straw Hat (5/5) - this flavor will be the mango and passion fruit. She offered to top it off with tajin, so how could we decline?! It was beyond fresh and juicy of a flavor. Not too icy, the consistency was beautiful. It really was a delightful treat for the transitioning weather. Complimented the sunset well. Small Cup of Leather and Visor (5/5) - leather is supposed to be a brown butter + chocolate chip cookie flavor while the visor is a roasted pistachio. It practically melts together and gives a balanced nutty, malty, yet creamy experience. The chunks of cookie in the leather just elevated each bite and adds that desired texture. I liked that the cookie bits inside weren't all uniform. Honestly I feel like any of the flavors would pair nicely together. They are not overly sweet, it's pretty natural and subtle. Definitely a play on your ordinary flavors though, which I could appreciate. For example, they have a cookies n cream but they added Nutella. The vanilla flavor includes cinnamon and salted butter. The Dubai chocolate was definitely more chocolate forward and rich, but such a solid flavor that you can't go wrong. Overall, this spot is definitely worth the wait. I feel like they have an option for everyone and the staff is extremely kind and helpful. I'd definitely return and absolutely recommend to others. What a perfect way to enjoy a yummy treat being right across the ocean. FYI: small cup was $6.65 and large $7.75 but keep in mind you're allowed 2 flavors for any size!
I've been going to An's for the past few years during my time in San Diego, and they have rightfully earned the title of #1 Gelato in the country. Every new flavor they create is a hit, even if it's not to my personal tastes. I love the flavor tour that they do for everyone who walks in through the door, automatically letting everyone try every single flavor that they're offering for the week/month. Each An's location has a different theme, and it's cute every time. Del Mar's location is the best, in my opinion, for the close beach view that's a 5ish minute walk away and the fact that there's a free parking garage down the block (assuming you're there less than an hr). I have yet to try a flavor that doesn't taste good, and they're worth the wait.
We were visiting from norcal and were recommended to check out An's and definitely werent disappointed. I love the fun unique flavors mixed with some regular flavors too. The fact that they make u try all of the flavors is also nice (though it does probably make the line a bit longer). We waited probably 45 minutes on a Saturday night. The prices are typical for ice cream as are the portion sizes. Also the ambiance of the store with the hats on the side is super fun as are the names of the ice cream flavors that are hat related.
I have been meaning to try An's for a minute, but the times have never aligned. We ended up going around dinner time on a Sunday, and the crowds were insane.. we waited like an hour until we made it inside. There are two types of parking - you can either park in the structure (paid) or use the 20 minute street parking on the side. I wouldn't say it was worth an hour wait, but it was certainly worth the experience. They take time to curate your experience and help you find something you enjoy through the flavor flight that they offer. And bonus, everything is hat themed! Absolutely obsessed with the pistachio visor flavor - I haven't had anything like it, and I'm still dreaming about it. I need the other locations on my passport ASAP! P.S. there are these nice high chairs up the stairs where you can enjoy your ice cream and look out into the ocean views.

Located just across the way from the beach, great spot to get some delicious ice cream. This is one of a few locations but this one is all about the hats. The decor and overall feel inside was nice. The man that assisted us was amazing. We opted for the full experience and tried all of them. You truly can't go wrong with any of the flavors. We opted for the SnapBack and visor. So good. Oh and def park in the parking structure since it gets crazy around there. read more

I was prepared for a line but the wait wasn't too long on a Saturday afternoon at 2pm. We parked in the adjacent structure. First hour was free and we made it just under the hour. We were able to try all the flavors before making a decision. The Visor (roasted pistachio) and Leather (brown butter + chocolate chip cookie) were my favorites but I had to share with the hubby who always gets chocolate so CA SnapBack it was. Every flavor was delicious, so smooth and creamy. Really enjoyed the waffle cone as well, it wasn't too sweet. I was hoping to try a matcha but the flavor was not releasing until the week after. 2 flavors in a waffle cone, get it and thank me later. read more

This was my first time at An's Hatmakers and boy was I impressed! I am a Make A Wish wish granter and today at the end of my wish kid's day we stopped in unannounced to An's. Zack noticed my Make A Wish shirt and went above and beyond in making my wish kid's last event today a real winner. He encouraged him to try lots of flavors to get a sense of what he wanted. Our ice cream loving kid thought this was fantastic. While he was too stuffed to eat ice cream right at the moment he got some pints to go and Zack J. helped to make sure the transaction was smooth and easy and sent our kid out with a smile. Ice cream is never the same after you try An's! Nothing can replicate the freshness, quality ingredients, and flavors they create. They are always switching up their flavors, but shout out to the seasonal gingerbread flavor (MY ABSOLUTE FAVVV), the pistachio flavor called Visor, and the dark chocolate called Cypress (I think). Service is ON POINT! They let you do a flight to sample every flavor they have and even give you a mint ice cream palate cleanser! How profesh! Located by the ocean in beautiful Del Mar, the vibes are immaculate. A small amount of seating inside and outside. Parking garage right next to the shop. This location is located on the first floor of an outdoor shopping plaza, parking is located on the back side in a parking garage The staff was amazing and let us sample every single flavor, and all of them were sooo good I got my gelato in a waffle cone so that is one size, and got the fruity flavor, I believe it had mango and passion fruit. An's Hatmakers gelato shop located in the Del Mar Plaza with plenty of parking in the lot but gratis for the first hour. A couple days ago, I did go to the Opening Day at Del Mar Racetrack and saw the Hat Contest which was a visual spectacle. In keeping with the hat theme this weekend, a visit to An's Hatmakers seemed like the next step. Taking the hatmaker theme from the business that formerly held the space, is what An's claim of fame is all about besides their creative yummy gelatos. Last night after dinner at Lana, I passed on dessert at the restaurant so I can visit An's and try new gelato flavors. There was a line and I waited patiently, luckily not too long. When I stepped inside the shop, I noticed wall shelves of hats, mostly fedoras and some hat boxes as the interior decor. There are some indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. The staff of servers behind the counter were all busy describing flavors and contents but what caught my attention was that all staffers except one did NOT wear gloves, which is a total turn off. The only staffer wearing gloves was Amory and she kept her area neat and clean, so I wanted her scooping my gelato! Amory was friendly helpful and patient. Was lucky to have gelato scooped out of brand new and fresh batch of gelato containers. Amory even got new scooping spoons to ease my mind. I got to sample all the gelato flavors before deciding on the Fedora a tiramisu with cognac flavor which I found was a tad too sweet. Additionally, I got the Basco Cap which includes roasted pistachios, lemon ricotta on a waffle cone. These two flavors were creative and delightful, even my pup Fendi enjoyed the gelato and their homemade waffle cones. The inside of the shop was too stuffy hot, as if there wasn't any air conditioning such a very uncomfortable ambiance. After I got my gelato, took pics, I had to walked outside for fresh air. I felt sorry for the staffers having to work under such uncomfortable heat. Most customers felt uncomfortable inside and also left after getting their gelato. If management can correct the issues I mentioned: reducing the excessive sweetness of the gelato flavors, the serving staffers should wear gloves and keeping the room temperature cooler perhaps this shop would score a higher rating. For some reason, a friend and I decided to get gelato before a work out class. An's Hatmakers made the perfect preworkout. Just like all of the An's locations, An's Hatmakers was decorated so adorably. They really lean into the theme. We did the flight tester of all of the current flavors, and wow they all tasted amazing! The employee scooping gelato was also so sweet. Unfortunately, I forgot to snap a pic of the menu but I love the concept of a rotating menu! During this visit, they offered Visor (pistachio), Blackberry (a berry sorbet), Lingerie (strawberry and chocolate), Cottondoodle (snickerdoodle and rice pudding), White (Greek yogurt and berries), a chocolate flavor which I forgot the name of, and their mojito-reminiscent palate cleanser. After trying all of the available flavors, my favorites were Lingerie, Blackberry, and Visor. We ended up sharing a large size of Blackberry and Visor- an unlikely delicious flavor combo. The Visor's pistachio flavor is rich and a bit salty/savory which pairs well with the sweet-slightly-tart Blackberry sorbet. read more

I've heard this place really has the best gelato in the country and I was a little hesitant after not having been much of a fan of the flavors at An's dry cleaning branch but the flavors here were so different and very much my vibe. The dark chocolate (burlap) which was a proper dark midnight chocolate flavor was lovely. We also tasted that cotton doodle one with that cinnamon flavor in it and it was a delicious gelato. Didn't go ahead with the scoop though because we knew the cinnamon would get too strong for us personally. The other one we had was a tiramisu flavor which apparently had actual alcohol in it and was a mascarpone base gelato. read more

Came here since I had to attend an event in the same plaza. Upon entering there wasn't a line and the employee working was very nice and gave us a sample of each flavor! we didn't even have to ask for samples, which made us feel very welcomed. My personal favorite was "White". Which Greek yogurt with berries. All the flavors were really good though, "Straw Hat" would have been my second choice. The decor was nice as well! One of the best Gelato I've had in a while and love that they keep them in the metal tubs. read more

WOW! I stopped by on valentines day and this place is truly what dreams are made of. The line was long but so worth the wait! I appreciate all the employees going into detail about all the flavors offered and treating us so great! It was my first time here and i'd deff come again. Expected nothing less of An's Hatmakers with their unique but inviting flavors! They're located on the ground floor of the Del Mar Plaza. After visiting here and having come to An's Dry Cleaning in NP, I can say they are both on par with the same tasting experience of flavors, quality of their gelatos, and excellent service. Yes, the lines get quite long if you want to try all their flavors, but it certainly helps with choosing your flavors that you end up liking! This week's round up was: 1. Coppola - cream, choco, nutella 2. Visor - pistachio 3. Cypress - midnight chocolate 4. Beret - white choco caramel, vanilla 5. 100% Paper (v) - passionfruit, orange, coconut 6. Tweed - tres leches w/ cake pieces 7. Strawberry Sorbet (v) I got my own small cup, and my friend did as well and got 4 different flavors. My selected flavors were the 100% Paper and Beret! My friend chose Tweed and Beret as well. Parking is free in the lot for the first hour, no need for validation. An's Hatmakers certainly fits the coastal part of Del Mar and will definitely be a busy attraction for most during any season. What's the long line outside about in Del Mar at 10pm? Yes, a unique chain of gelato ice cream joints offering interesting flavors. Very friendly and patient service offering samples of each day flavors to help you make "tasty" decision. Tried variety of about 6 unique monthly flavors on their menu for the day..explained by girl at the counter. Much to my family surprise, I chose two totally opposite taste scoops- pistachio based which was yummy and other a dark chocolate flavor. Portion size i was small n adequate, not too sweet, unlike few other places like Leatherby's ifykyk Interesting decor inside, apparently hat shop converted gelato shop and other outlets have interesting odd names like "An's dry cleaning" Definitely a spot to cool off near the Del Mar beach! read more

It's a very small shop with limited seating inside. Be aware they only have 7 flavors available. The nice thing is they let you taste all of them before choosing your favorites to buy. Wish they have a few more than 7 flavors to choose from. Gelato flavors are unique and not something you get elsewhere. They are delicious. It's in a little plaze across the street from the beach. If you go upstairs, you can pretty much eat the ice-cream while enjoying the beach view. Come during non-peak hours to avoid waiting in a long line. read more
We came on a Saturday during early afternoon and waited around 30 mins which is expected. I always love the flavor tour to try each special flavor! We came specifically for their new matcha menu and I enjoyed both the kasa (strawberry matcha) and poke beru (banana matcha). The strawberry matcha was my favorite and had a tasty strawberry flavor with pieces of chewy matcha cake inside! I couldn't taste the banana flavor in the banana matcha but the matcha shined through. We also had the straw hat (mango and passion fruit) and the lemon palette cleanser which both were more of a tart sorbet. Staff are always friendly and patient. An's is always a classic! This was my first time coming to this location so I've now been to all 3! I specifically came here to try their new matcha menu, and loved both the kasa (matcha strawberry) and poke-beru (matcha banana); though the banana flavor wasn't that prominent, the matcha really shined through for both. Also got straw hat (mango/passionfruit) and the palate cleanser (wanted pistachio but there was a miscommunication). They're both tart and refreshing, more of a sorbet. The flavor tour is always a highlight to try everything and staff is always patient and friendly! We waited around 30 minutes on a Saturday early afternoon which is expected. Love An's! There was no line when we arrived on a Thursday evening. The shop was decorated so cutely with hats and Christmas decor. The staff offered us samples of every flavor, and they were all incredibly creamy and delicious. I ordered a small scoop of Santa's Hat (midnight cocoa + peppermint), and it was so good. The gelato at An's Hatmakers is perfection. The flavors are unique and change often so there's always something new to try. For your first visit, they have a flavor tour where you get to taste each gelato including starting with a palate cleanser! While I love this service, it does make the line move very slowly and on a Saturday night you can expect to wait an hour or longer. The Top Hat flavor which is triple chocolate with almonds and Nutella is decadent, rich, and creamy. The entire kitchen is gluten free including the cones and there are also vegan/dairy free choices. The staff is super friendly and you can tell are very enthusiastic about gelato and quality ingredients. read more

One of my favorites! The flavors rotate, but when I see the ones I love, I always make a point to stop by. There's usually a line, but it moves quickly. I also appreciate how they limit the number of people inside so it never feels overcrowded. The staff has always been friendly, which adds to the experience. This time, I got a small for $6.45 (which is more than enough), and they added both the flavors I wanted Visor Pistachio and Tiramisu, which even had real chunks of ladyfingers. I really hope they bring those flavors back, along with the Italy themed lineup. They also had a variety of lemon flavors, which I don't normally go for, but they turned out to be the perfect summer treat. Bonus: they have a rewards program too! read more

If you're coming here looking for hats, you might as well stay because An's Hatmakers' specialty gelato will cap off your meal like no other, fill you up to the brim, and end up being your top (hat) choice when it comes to gelato! This local favorite has a sibling shop sharing the same "An" moniker but based on a different legacy shop (Dry Cleaning). This one in particular is decorated like an old timey hat shop but is anything but. As you walk in, you'll quickly glance at the tiny little menu up top but no worries, as a newcomer, the staff will take you through a tasting tour and introduce you to all of their flavors, one by one (oh but not before a lemon sorbet as a palate cleanser). It's no wonder the shop is frequently seen with a snake like crowd slithering out the door! I very much appreciated the hospitality and the thorough flight of flavors - not only did it help me find the flavor I wanted to bathe my tastebuds in but the experience in itself was fun and a true crowd pleaser for small parties of the uninitiated. On this particular visit, we had a pleasant trip through their creations. We were told that different locations carry different flavors and may rotate so hopefully you'll get a taste of the ones we tried but I am looking forward to coming back for another taste! FASCINATOR: Strawberry - solid and pretty much what you'd expect. Refreshing, tart, and light! 100% PAPER: Orange, Coconut, Passion Fruit - a bit of a tropical taste much like a classic dole whip. This one is easily a favorite for those looking to take a vacation through your mouth! BERET: Vanilla, White Chocolate, Caramel - good balanced flavors and classic combination for those looking for something sweet. TWEED: Tres Leches, Vanilla sponge cake - another classic flavor sure to please those with a sweet tooth. COPPOLA: Cream, nutella, cookies - great texture with the mix ins and creamy, nutty flavor that hits home for me. I almost got this one! VISOR: Pistachios - I'm not usually a fan of pistachio anything but this one had me raving! Bits of pistachio with the richness of the gelato just paired so well. Hands down enough reason to make your way here. CYPRESS: Midnight chocolate, cream. honey - this is bliss in darkness. Described to us as a brownie in gelato form, chocolate lovers need to try this. Pair it with a scoop of the pistachio and you've got a holy grail of a cone! They come in various sizes and if you're looking to get stuffed, get the cone. We tried the Mixmaster (salted butter, cinnamon & vanilla), Leather (brown butter & chocolate chip cookies), Cypress (Midnight Coco) and Sagada (ube & coconut caramel). Loved each and every one of them. The staff let us try all the flavors. Rich, creamy, and packed with flavor without being overly sweet. Loved the ambience too. Definitely worth the stop in Del Mar! read more

Came on MLK around 6pm and it took just about an hour to make it from the outside to the inside counter. Not a lot of seating is available inside or outside. Definitely come prepared for a wait. The service was amazing! Hands down a great experience. I was walked thru an entire storyline of all the flavors they offer. That alone had me wanting to come back. I got the small visor and top hat. Both were equally delicious and tasted so fresh! Definitely will be coming back. read more

Had a great experience at An's dry cleaning so came to check out this sister location. Unfortunately the staff wasn't as friendly and seemed to be just going through the motions. The ice cream were good nonetheless and beanie was my favorite with bread pudding and nutella. read more
I'm a big fan of An's but I had only ever been to their Dry Cleaning location. I was in the Del Mar area and had to make a stop to the Hatmaker location! I've fallen even more in love with An's - the barrier of a 30-45 min long line at the Dry Cleaning location doesn't exist here!! It was truly amazing to walk in the store and walk right up to the counter (went on a sunday afternoon around 12:30pm) The flavors, as always, were all bangers - I got the Minky (coconut + pineapple sorbet) and the Visor (pistachio). I usually don't go for pistachio, but the Visor was actually so good - they even include whole bits of roasted pistachio! Continuously impressed by the quality and creativity of An's - it's no surprise they're #1. Free parking up to an hour in the garage, or find street parking. read more

I Never had a Gelato Tour! And this was the Best Experience Ever!! I love the decorations ! And the energy this place gives! Makes the experience 10 times better!! The customer service is the Best!! Now i understand the long line and the wait! I hate making lines lol but for a Gelato Tour Experience !! I will make a line any day lol i had the Carbon Fiber and it was Delicious!! My daughters had the Vanilla Flavor and even that was Amazing!!! Love it! I will totally come here again and recommend this to everyone ! read more

OH MY GOSH THE PISTACHIO 10/10 THANK YOU FOE THIS that was the best pistachio gelato ive ever had. i appreciate that this place lets you try every flavor available, because i wasn't sure what to get at first. the small cup allows for two flavors but i still got a full scoop of just pistachio haha. the pineapple/coconut flavor was also delicious! the only reason i didn't get that flavor too was because i recently ate a lot of pineapple and coconut flavored things haha great ambiance too on a super pretty street with nice stores and restaurants. can't wait to come back read more

This ice cream shop is located in a cute shopping complex near the water. Upon opening the door, the wafts of buttery waffle cone aroma fill the air. When we got up to the counter, Marie offered us a flavor tour where she walked thru each of the flavors, their ingredients and gave us a sample. It was very informative and the ice cream was delicious! I ended up with the Coppola ans the California Surf ones in a waffle cone. It was delicious!! Delicious gelatos! I love their attire theme and how they individually give you a flavor tour, allowing you to try everything before buying. All the flavors I had were amazing so it's hard to choose but in the end went with Chocolate and the Coconut Passionfruit. The Pistachio one would have been my next pick. Yay! As a San Diego local, I can't believe it took me THIS long to finally try An's Hatmakers! I kept hearing about the fun tasting experience, so I'm happy to have my own experiences to report on, now! I went on a weekend evening after dinnertime. Surprisingly, there was no line, just one group ahead of us! I suppose we got lucky. (After we left, there was a line that had formed.) There were seats inside and outside, though it was a bit chilly to eat gelato outdoors. The inside was very cutely decorated!! In true An's Hatmakers fashion, we were given a sampling tour of the different gelato flavors they had on rotation. This included fascinator (strawberry), 100% paper (coconut, orange, passionfruit), beret (vanilla, white chocolate, caramel), tweed (tres leches), coppola (cream, Nutella, cookies), visor (pistachio), and cypress (midnight chocolate). In my opinion, the fascinator was fresh, fruity, and undeniably strawberry. A very light-tasting option. Meanwhile, the visor had an unexpectedly pleasant pistachio flavor. Although I don't usually like pistachio, this was in my top 2 of the night! It wasn't overpowering or artificial at all. On the other hand, cypress was rather disappointing; it tastes like undercooked brownie batter, but I suppose that appeals to some crowds!! I also enjoyed the coppola, which was admittedly very sweet but somewhat unique. The gelato flavors were definitely fun and different! The quality was good, but it's not as creamy as I was hoping it would be (of course, it's not ice cream). As such, I think what makes An's unique is its selection of flavors. For the price, I don't know if I can justify coming back very often, but I do think it's a great option for a little sweet treat every once in a while! read more
I first discovered this place through an instagram post advertising their "pho" flavor - unfortunately they don't have it anymore but their other flavors looked really good so I still really wanted to try it! Each flavor is named after different types of hats and the shop is decorated with hats as well. Before ordering, we were offered a "flavor tour," which is basically a sampling of every flavor they currently offer. I really loved this because I'm a super indecisive person but I'm also often too shy to ask for samples. Every flavor was very rich and delicious. I opted for the denim (banana & caramel) and cotton (rice pudding), but I also really liked the visor (roasted pistachio). I will say it is a bit pricey especially for the small cup, but the quality of the gelato is worth it. read more
