Biscuits and gravy with grits
Jen W.

After an overnight train trip, we stopped in here for coffee. I didn't eat much, but others in our group have been here before and ordered breakfast. They also ordered beignet to share. This version reminds me of little powdered sugar covered, deep fried donut holes. This days order of biscuits and gravy was a bit stingy with the gravy according to my companion who frequents this business. We made a joke about how maybe they are running low. Those pancakes are lite and fluffy. I can definitely recommend the coffee here. Our waitress stopped by to refill our cups during our visit. Very smooth, full bodied coffee. Our waitress was very pleasant and checked in on our table from time to time. We paid at the cashier on the way out. They share parking with other businesses so you may have to walk a bit. Over all this seems a nice spot for breakfast.

It appears as though my experience was consistent with the rating that you see. The Good: Decor, staff was friendly. The Challenges: The food wasn't very good. Everything was cooked in canola oil I think. Over medium eggs were overcooked. Packaged salsa. This just isn't my vibe. I was hoping for a healthy breakfast, which I just don't feel like they could provide.

Another Broken Egg is a family friendly restaurant! The staff is friendly and accommodating and the ambiance is similar to a community breakfast brunch favorite! I will be honest and admit I didn't really enjoy my food. I'm a temperature person and if it's not steaming hot then I'm won't indulge ! Also , my breakfast beignets were delivered burnt and the powdered sugar was an attempt to cover up the mistake ! It was quite offensive but the server made sure to bring out another ! My shrimp and grits were not flavorful and the shrimp are very small ! I expect plump and juicy shrimp if I'm purchasing a meal from a restaurant! The food quality lacks in many ways and is quite subpar in my opinion ! However, the atmosphere is welcoming and warm !

Went back to ABEC and had a much better experience. Sunday around 11.30. It was not as busy as last time. Service was good, we sat by the bar, and so was the food. We waited a while for the food to come but no big deal as we were enjoining the coffee and chatting. No rush. Both the omelette and the waffle burger were good and so were the potatoes.

Southwest Scrambler substituted tomatoes instead of grits

The waitress spoke extremely fast like she didn't have time to help us and want to move on to the next table. She was training someone yet she was too interested in gossiping with another waitress about a patron. It has to be said the waitress she was speaking to couldn't stop playing with her hair in and out of the kitchen. The food was good other than my English muffin wasn't even warm it came right out of the package . And nothing was seasoned and the cilantro was not washed ran across several gritty bites.

On initial entry the decor was very nice and inviting with cute handmade, branded mugs on sale to catch your eye. Outside of that, it was just another normal brunch place with a few 'southern' inspired takes on everyday breakfast items. We arrived a little before the lunch rush on a Sunday so we expected service to be a little slower. We waited for almost ten minutes before initially being greeted after our arrival. Our quoted wait time was 10-15 minutes. At the 25 minute mark and no text, we decided to come back in after waiting outside and were immediately sat.. From our initial arrival until we received our food was around an hour. Our waitress was Dom who was extremely nice and apologetic throughout our dining experience. We ordered two cold brew coffees and waters. The coffees were good but I feel they would've been better had we not waited 10+ minutes. They were partially melted by the time they arrived to us. I had the hashbrown Benedict. Subbed the poached eggs for fried over-medium ones. They came out over easy with the egg whites still runny but I was so hungry at this point I just ate around the yolk (undercooked eggs make my stomach upset). The potatoes had a really nice seasoning, but the ham hashbrown patties themselves were mushy. Overall the dish was okay, but not worth the wait IMO. My partner had scrambled eggs with his order and they came out over cooked and dry. As if they sat in the window for a while before being served. We ordered a 1/2 serving of the biscuit beignets (4 pcs- I ate one before snapping a photo) as an appetizer but they didn't make it to the table unit we were almost finished with our main dishes. Dom offered and brought us some fresh fruit and apologized for the wait which we really appreciated. The beignets had a really nice texture and a delicious orange marmalade sauce. Because they're biscuit based they are a bit thicker than a normal beignets, but we didn't mind. Hands down the best part of our experience outside of our waitress. Overall, it was an okay experience. We probably won't be back anytime soon. Extra note- be sure to double check the 'suggested tips'. They do round the total to the nearest dollar amount if you pay cash (which I personally prefer) but even still, the suggested amounts were higher than the true percentages if you do the math yourself.

Allegedly French Toast
Jabez J.

We went to this place to have breakfast instead of having a burger at Bad Daddy's like we always do. Now we regret our choice. We should have followed our first mind. Just left this place and sadly the French toast was just toast. It appears that there was one egg used to create the illusion of French Toast. As you can see from the picture the toast on the far left doesn't have any eggs on it. This is how the French Toast tasted overall. The rest of the meal which was called Meyer's Lemon and Blueberry French Toast was lacking. Interestingly we couldn't taste the flavors from the Meyer's Lemon nor were we able to see any of the glaze. Well maybe that was the sliver that looks like butter spread as also shown in the picture. The eggs, bacon and the side of chicken sausage was lacking as well. If we're in the area again we're going back to our burger spot.

Staff not waiting on customers and drinking champagne!

The cafe has a very homey atmosphere, with the ordering counter being right in front when you walk in. I took a look at the seasonal menu and ordered the gingerbread cortado. While our drinks were being made, we decided to explore the shop. There was one more room in the back that's ducked off from the rest of the cafe, giving a more cozy and intimate vibe. Since there was already a good amount of people, there were no empty tables for my friend and I to sit at. It took about 10 minutes for both of our drinks to be ready, which isn't a long wait. Upon initially trying my drink, I hated it. The orange flavor in the drink caught me off guard, the nutmeg gave it a spicy element, and there was a strong espresso taste coming through. After some time, I got used to the taste and it wasn't as shocking to my palette, but I personally don't prefer cortado coffee drinks. If I'm back in the area I would definitely stop here, but I'd probably order a drink I'm more familiar with.

We spent a good amount there trying to get some school work and business done remotely; the staff was very kind and would offer to refill our coffee/drinks even if it was for a small refill price. Pastries were yummy, espresso and matcha drinks are excellent so that's a win! Downside is the parking; if you can find a spot up on the little hill, great but it is a little tight. They do offer additional parking behind the business and a walking path that connects to the shop. Seating, like any popular coffee shop, can be hard to find but there are beautiful spots outside to enjoy. Overall, very nice experience and definitely worth the stopping by and supporting a local business if you are in the area.

The food is unique, clean, well thought out with flavors that interest both the traditional Korean pallette, and those who are looking to dip their toes into the Korean cuisine. The coffee and baked goods weren't too sweet (which is a compliment to the korean baked goods industry) 2. The environment felt personal, thoughtful, and intentional. From the Art on the walls, to the chair socks on the feet of the chairs, you knew that care was put into everything. 3. It is truly a family run business as every employee seemed to be connected in one way. The owners, Jeanne and Julie stopped by to ask how we were enjoying our meal, and a quick stop turned into a 10 minute conversation about their history and passion of this business. I had the Pork Belly toast (Braised Pork Belly, Soft Scrambled eggs, arugula, and gochujang mayo on a really good Sourdough toast). Not greasy or gamey, and just large enough to have for lunch. To drink it was the Iced Hojicha Latte. I added some sweetener which balanced out the earthiness of Hojicha. My wife had the OG Bibimbap with Beef and Purple Rice (Purple rice FTW). It too was a great balance of traditional and modern Bibimbap. She had a Citron Tea that warmed the "Heart and Seoul" I can't wait to go back to explore the other items on the menu. Updates to come.

I booked a tea party lunch session on the weekend with my friend, and we both had a wonderful experience. They also accommodate a vegan menu for tea party bookings. Our names were printed on the menu, which was a very nice touch. There is a large collection of teas to choose from, along with a detailed menu. They let you smell the teas from a tea tray, which helps a lot when choosing the one you like. The staff explained each tea and recommended flavors based on our personal tastes. They also introduced and explained the sweet and savory items on the menu. We had panda tea and hibiscus tea. The sweet and savory tea party lunch set was delicious and represented Indonesian desserts well. We enjoyed the savory items more than the sweet ones, but we loved the great variety of desserts. We especially loved the presentation. Everything came together to create a lovely experience and a wonderful girls' hangout time. The place is quaint and cute. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Her posture while pouring tea was very elegant. It happened that the weekend we chose was right before Valentine's weekend, so the restaurant was not too crowded, which was a plus for us. However, their lunch party sessions are normally fully booked and busy, especially on weekends. You should definitely call and book ahead if you want to experience this lunch tea party. 12/10 highly recommend this experience, especially for girls' dates. I will come back to try other à la carte items from the menu.

We tried the: - Es Cendol (coconut milk, palm sugar, pandan rice flour jelly): The more I drank this, the more it grew on me- a little reminiscent of brown sugar boba. We added jackfruit, but I don't think that's needed. - Bubur Campur (black sticky rice, pandan custard, sweet potato & taro ball, tapioca jelly, side coconut milk): I liked all the toppings, but the texture of the rice wasn't really my vibe. Glad I tried this, but probably wouldn't get again. - Kaya Toast: This was my surprise favorite, loved the kaya ('coconut') jam, which was on the sweeter side with notes of caramel. The bread was perfectly toasted, and the slabs of butter were complementary. Persimmon is also my favorite fruit, so points given for that haha. I may or may not have gone to my local Asian grocery store to purchase kaya jam the next day. Service was friendly and fast. The only thing I'll mention is that some of the larger tables had tea sets but nothing indicating that sitting there wasn't allowed (later we learned they have afternoon high tea most days). The shop is relatively small and was packed when we went on a Saturday night so not having 3 large tables available was a bit inconvenient. I'd maybe suggest setting up before/after hours, rather than when other paying customers could be using the space. Regardless, this was a unique experience, 8.5/10 would recommend!
