I brought a pair of dress pants with me on my trip and did not have time to get them shortened before I came here. Originally my mom and I looked at another alteration shop, but when we called them, they informed me that they were inundated with requests through January and could not take my request on. The owner suggested Ann's Alterations as they had availability to take on repairs at this time. It's located in the same plaza as Harris Teeter and the All Around the World Cafe. There's not a ton of parking, but if you go during a non-peak time, you can find a spot. The shop has two dressing rooms for trying on the items you need altered or have been altered. Usually the team at the shop wants clients to try on their items and come out to show the tailors what needs to be tailored/fixed. In addition to the pants, I brought a skirt with me for mending. (Another tailor tried to take in the skirt but assembled it together with lumps in the side seams.) The pants were an easy repair as only a couple of inches needed to be removed for shortening. The skirt required the head tailor to come out to see what needed to be fixed. She said the seams would need to come out and she would fix the lining too, which was bunchy and creating some of the bulk in the side seams. The pants were a slight rush job (I say slight as I was asking for them to be turned around a week versus longer.) The skirt was no rush. After a week, the pants were finished and they were perfect. The skirt was finished a week or so later and that was better than ever. The skirt was deconstructed so the side seams were smoother and lined up better to make the pattern look continuous/consistent. Prices weren't expensive - $12 for shortening the pants which was reasonable. They do very good work and it is worth it. I've left a pair of jeans with them for shortening and would use them again if I was in town and needed alterations. read more

I took my wedding dress to be altered here back in April. My wedding is June 27th of this year. Ann said it would be ready June 7th. The day we dropped it off we came up with a full plan and were happy with what was pinned. When we came to the final fitting she had done one thing from the list of alterations to be made. The top was still loose, she did not add a button to the slit, she made three bustle point instead of five. The worst part was that she added yellow pearls to the skirt of the dress for the bustle. When we discussed our concerns she began by saying that we don't understand her work and my dress is too much. If that was the case, we should've been turned down in April. She only gave us half of our money back. We now have three weeks to find someone to finish and correct her work and will likely have to pay a rush fee. All because of her. read more

Too expensive. Dress did not turn out how I wanted it too and they were unwilling to make small changes without an extra charge. A little bit of accommodation would have gone a long way. Do not recommend. read more

I'm writing this review a month later because life has been a bit crazy but when I dropped it before they were about to close they literally fixed my dress for free, she knew I had a wedding to go to and put a little clip in so that the zipper would work and so I didn't have to leave the dress overnight. I forgot her name but the younger lady literally saved the day and was one of the nicest human begins I've ever met. The fix alteration wasn't noticeable and I've wore it 3 times since. Even though I didn't quite know what all I needed to be tailored (as this was my first time), they walked me through every step. Everything was stitched back perfectly and the seams look good as new! I've used this shop for 15 years, and it's now apparent they don't listen. Twice now I've had very expensive jeans come back hemmed too short and uneven. This last time I tried and I begged to leave extra length and again I get home and boom, "high waters". I don't get it. We had a dress "crisis" such that the night before my daughter was to leave for a friend's wedding in Tennessee, the zipper broke in her new dress. We were desperate to get it fixed in a matter of hours. I would NEVER ask for this type of turn around, but we had to. I hated to ask for expedited service when I never had really used them before, but now they have a happy customer for life. They got the zipper replaced in less time than they said it would take. Ann's or Anna's? i guess they both work. So when i was in need of a suit alteration before a friend's wedding, i searched Yelp and decided on one with several positive reviews. Fast forward and as i'm en route, i go to look up directions and find the place. Later when i get home, i realize i went to Ann's Alterations when i initially had planned on going to Anna's Alterations. Fortunately, Ann's does a fine job as well. Hemmed the pants and brought the suit jacket in a little based on the lady's recommendation. i like things tight, but it is almost a smidge too tight...i might have to watch what i eat before the next suit wearing event. We've gone back since and Ann's brought 3 pairs of my sexy wife's jeans back into rotation. It is located in the strip by the Harris Teeter. This lot is definitely annoying to get out of at busy drive times if you're trying to go left toward the Park Rd hub of consumerism. read more

Ann's was truly a lifesaver. I had to get surgery on my Achilles' tendon a month before my wedding. With the bulky cast I could no longer get the tux pants on. When I brought the pants in, she immediately knew what to do. The pants were altered quickly, looked great (I don't think people even realized, and all for a very reasonable price. This place is an absolute joke. I had a pair of pants altered and paid over $90 the first time just for the pair of pants to not be altered correctly. Went back two separate times after the initial visit for the SAME pair to be altered again (note this is within a two week span). The third time I went back to pick up and try on the pants, they were horrible. Looked like I was wearing a diaper the sides were puckering. Absolutely horrendous job. The manager came out to look at them and argued with me that they were fine and it was the material until I told her that I had the exact same pair in a different color altered elsewhere. Went back (this makes time number 4) to pick up my pants. I tried them on....they were still puckered on the sides not laying flat like I asked. And this time I was charged $18 for the pair to be WRONG AGAIN. I'm fed up. I asked why I was being charged again after paying over $90 the first time and having to wait two subsequent times for the pants to be wrong. Their answer, we took in the side (they took in a total of 1 cm) and not the back like last time. I paid and left. Don't use this place it is a joke and my pants, after four visits are not altered and look horrible. I cannot believe I was charged more for a job they were clearly incapable of accomplishing. read more

I had an awful experience here altering a bridesmaid dress. I had a dress altered one week ago, received it yesterday, and the wedding is tomorrow. I tried on the dress today (I was running around for wedding things and couldn't try it on when I received it yesterday) and it was WAY too small to the point I couldn't zip it without my back folding and my boobs were completely smooshed and unable to fit in the dress comfortably - I couldn't even breathe. I called and they let it out at the top for me, and when I came out and was still not thrilled with the fit (but said it was better so it's okay since it's so close) she told me I just gained weight. There is no way with how tight the dress was that I gained that much weight in one week. After I explained it had t been very long she insisted I brought in my dress two weeks ago, which I didn't. Then, when she realized she was wrong she said "well you had one week to gain the weight". Ann was completely rude and I will never visit again. read more

Got a work vest, pants, and skirt altered here. Very happy with the fit of the skirt and vest. Although the lining of the vest has fallen out in the back and my pockets had holes in them almost instantly. Belt loop on pants popped off, but I just sewed it back myself. I highly recommend Ann's! I've been going here for almost 5 years and have always been very happy. The owner is super friendly, their prices are very reasonable and they always make sure I'm happy with the alterations. Their turn-around time is flexible too. I needed a rush on a bridesmaid dress once and she was able to have it ready in a very short time period and just charged me a small expedite fee. They are open until 7pm on the weekdays and until 4pm on Saturdays, which makes it much eaiser to make it by the store!
