Still loving Annie as much or even more then when I first started going to her. Post covid times has been very nice to have only her working on my hair without an assistant. She's like me, a perfectionist that cares about every single little detail, so if you're anything like me, I like my hair to be a specific way and she always hits the mark. If i get nervous during the appointment about it not looking the way I want it, she's always open to listening, reassuring me, fixing anything that might be off, or being honest and letting me know why my visions may be unrealistic in just one sitting. She's truly an artist and born to do what she does. I trust her judgment and always leave her appointments feeling more confident with not just my hair but my life struggles we talk about throughout my appointment hehe. She's a very busy person so please remember to book your appointments well in advance and be patient as you should with any service person but know that she really cares about her clients and will fit you in and accommodate any changes that you might need within reason. I'm someone who expects to spend the full day at the salon since my hair is thick and it takes about 6-7 hours to get this type of work done. I go in every 6 months and will bring work with me or something to kill time when I'm waiting around for processing and if she happens to run late. Unprofessional because she was late multiple times, overcharges, doesn't treat all clients with the same respect, was rude with what she's said before to me but I didn't call it out because I'd rather let things slide instead of have an argument, impatient (Not very good with controlling her emotions), has been inconsiderate, lacks empathy, and enjoys to gossip (Not in a good way). She was consistently rough with my hair and caused a lot of hair loss from each appointment by how she takes out the foils. Was ok with her assistant doing the work even though you paid initially for her to do it. I would not recommend to get your hair done with her. I have been on fire about my recent appointment with this woman. DO NOT get your hair done by her. She is absolutely scattered, all over the place. My daughter and I had our appointments together which were originally at 1pm. She texted to push back the appointments until 1:30. That was fine. We were there on time and we sat until 2:50pm because she said she forgot she was out of bleach and had to run to get some. It takes an hour and twenty minutes to get bleach from the beauty supply? And as we waited she texted to say we could just shop in the area until she arrived.... That's not how appointments are supposed to work. My daughter has gone to her for 2 years and she has never once been on time. Not once. She arrived with NO BAG in hand, no bleach just lots of flattery about how my daughter and I could be friends implying I looked young- I don't, I look old as hell, but I digress. She worked on my hair and had lots of conversation and continuously stopped to mess with her iPad. Like FOCUS. Cut my hair and pay attention. She finished and I was just ready to go, she gave me bangs which I specifically asked her not to but there they were. My daughter was getting her balayage and wanted to try some long layers so I ended up staying for part of her appointment. For reference, my daughter's hair was down to her butt, she has never had short hair. Every time she goes, this stylist thins her hair and my daughter hates it. So this time she specifically said "I don't want my hair thinned, just some long layers" she showed her pictures. The stylist repeatedly brought up thinning even though my girl said she did not want it thinned. Meanwhile left to go home and noticed one side of my head was layered and the other was barely done. I was irritated but just figured it was due to her constantly stop starting and figured I'll get it fixed later. I drive my daughter's car back to get her after her color and she comes out panicked, feeling like too much hair is gone. I can't see well because IT'S 11PM at this point! I asked why it took 8 hours- it's never taken that long! She said she kept leaving while she was doing her hair and stopping to mess with her iPad and to order Boba... my kid doesn't like Boba, she just wanted her hair done. Well we got home and her hair is gone. I was there for a good part of her cut. I was there when she told her how much length she wanted to keep and she showed her. She came home with a wispy little bit of length left MUCH shorter than was agreed upon and it was super patchy thin. She thinned her hair out so much I cannot believe it, after she was asked not to. I know it was thinned and not due to the layers because it was so thick before at the back of her head up right against her head. Now it's extremely thin all up against her head. I watched her 5 times say she was done cutting and then she would pick up the scissors and start AGAIN cutting away. This continued after I was gone. She also, besides liking to gossip, had lots of opinions and advice to give on medical issues... my daughter is a dang DOCTOR with 8+ years of higher education. She's a DPT that puts in 50-60 hours a week treating patients.... But apparently, having a client that's a nurse equals the hairstylist having a medical degree as well. My favorite comment was "Well, I don't think menopause affects hair thinning." Like, are you joking? You need to google that ridiculous statement..How can you work with hair and not know this?! She also kept talking politics constantly parroting "I don't get my news from mainstream media" Yeah neither do we, can we stop talking about this and focus? Bottom line, the color she did was nice but who cares when the cut is horrific. My daughter's hair was gorgeous and she destroyed it. She also gave me a lousy lopsided cut that I've gotta get fixed. $700+ out the door to get screwed. I was so angry when I found out my daughter tipped her. She said "I had no idea how bad it was, she kept pushing it all to the front and never showed me the back" she also said she should have known it was bad because this was the first time that she's gone to her that she didn't take after pics- she took before pics, but no afters! So yeah, if I shit the bed as hard as she did I wouldn't want after pics of long beautiful hair that I destroyed. Again, I cannot stress this enough - DO NOT get your hair cut by this woman. Unless you want to waste your money, look like ass and be annoyed in the process. We are going to the better business bureau over this, absolutely the worst experience. My daughter has been in tears ever since and is now pulling her hair up in a bun for work that barely wraps around one time. Like neither of us mind paying a high price if it's a great job. It was my first time getting a balayage so I didn't know any better. Since I have thick Asian hair, I wish she told me she didn't have enough time. Maybe she could have done a partial balayage? Instead she severely thinned out my hair. Looking back, I just wished she didn't do that. The next time I went back to her (since I didn't know any better) there were eye rolls on the toner colors I wanted. I messaged Annie for an emergency appointment not expecting to get one. I think she saw the awful state my hair was in from a nightmare appointment with another stylist and took pity on me. She squeezed me in even though I know that through all her reviews that she is fully booked. She not only listened to my concerns, she rationally explained why I would need to cut more than I wanted and how much she could reasonably do since she was squeezing me in. Annie not only helped me fix my awful cut, she gave me a color that I have always wanted which took a chunk of her already overtime. I understand that I got lucky with the appointment, I booked whatever she had available 4 months out right after this appointment. She gave me thorough instructions on how to take care of it too. Thank you Annie for ridding me of my nasty brassy hair! I started coming to Annie last August with super brassy hair, no matter where I went or what I did. My hair color always turned an ugly brassy/orange color within a month. Annie definitely knows her color hair dyes - she can look at hair and decide what colors to use on it and what colors to blend and melt into different sections. I especially love how she's realistic and honest to clients, she won't waste your time and money - if a color isn't possible to attain or will take more than one session to achieve, she isn't afraid to tell you right away. The balayage process took about 5 hours, longer when I had to do a color correction. She offers drinks/snacks and chats with you, so the time flies by. I usually also get my hair cut as well while I'm there. Be sure to book in advance! Her schedule fills up fast! Easiest way is to book her online. She may take awhile to respond to texts, as her phone is always blowing up with so many messages (witnessed this myself while I was there!) Prices are fair, you definitely get what you pay for - results and differences can be seen, especially in the long run. The color and highlights last and look good even 3 months or 6 months later. Annie is the best person I've seen for hair! I've been seeing her for almost 5 years now, and I've become so comfortable with her that I completely trust her with my hair. There's even been times where I come in with no idea what I want and go by her recommendation. Annie is extremely thorough, and she explains every step of the way which I really appreciate. It took a couple tries to get as light as I wanted, but I'm glad that's what Annie advised. Many women with dark hair don't understand that getting from black to light blonde takes several tries, and that if you go too aggressively on dark hair, it'll just be a fried, broken mess. Don't be concerned about the negative reviews. While there is always 2 sides of the story, one sense I'm getting is that a lot of these clients don't listen to what Annie has to say. And many come with unrealistic expectations. She is an expert--coloring hair for many years now--she probably knows better than your average girl. If she suggests that going super light at once isn't possible, it's probably true. Light hair takes patience. Also, every hair stylist has assistants. I've never been to an upscale salon that doesn't utilize assistants to help and to train. Annie is always supervising her assistants and will aways correct them if they're not doing it right. I've never once felt like I've just gotten my hair done by the assistants. It's rare to find colorists that truly care about your hair health while also being experts on hair/what looks good (esp Asian hair). Every time I get highlights it lasts a while, and her technique is amazing. If you're skeptical about highlights, particularly first timers, I'd highly recommend going to Annie! read more

I found Annie on Yelp and for my yearly makeover, decided to give her services a try! I've had the same stylist since 1998, but due to her availability have been trying different salons since last year. (Last year I chopped my hair off about 7 inches!). Anyway, I was in need of highlights and after seeing all of the photos, decided to give Annie a try! You can check out her website which lists her services and pricing. I filled out her online form and she emailed me back in less than 24 hours. She also emailed me 2 days before my appointment to confirm we were still on. I had a 10AM appointment, and Annie was running late and texted me around 9:40AM. That was perfect so it gave me enough time to run to the bank. She gave me caramel highlights with a hair cut. The total time took around 3 hours so when making appointments, keep that in mind. Annie is such a sweetheart and very easy to talk to. I came in with thick, very dark hair that reached the small of my back and I left with chest-length, ashy blonde hair that practically glows in the sunlight! Having not dyed or cut my hair in the last two years, I figured it was time for a drastic change, and what more drastic than to go blonde? After some researching, I discovered Annie on Yelp. Reading her reviews, the majority were very positive, and I immediately texted her to make an appointment. Three days later and I had still not received a reply, but that's understandable, knowing how busy she is. I texted her one more time and received a reply in the next day. She asked for a picture of my hair currently and a picture of what I desired, and an appointment was made for her next available day, which was a month later. The day of the appointment, I arrived at 10:00 AM. Annie was 45 minutes late due to traffic so I had to wait a bit. She did call and text that she was running late, which I appreciated. When she sat me down, she warned me that I could not achieve the light blonde I desired because my hair was so dark. I asked her to get me as light as possible. The process was very long, especially due to my thick hair (which Annie mentioned multiple times throughout the process). I first got a cut to shorten the length and add layers, which took about an hour. Then came the bleaching, which in all took maybe 2-3 hours. At this point, once the bleach was washed off, I was a little worried because the blonde seemed a bit too yellow and I thought I looked a little ratchet... Annie also suggested I lighten my roots from my natural dark black to a dark brown, and that's where the magic happened! After another hour, my hair had turned into a nice ashy blonde. Lessons learned: don't question the hair stylist and don't judge your hair until it is finished and DRY. Service-wise, Annie is very sweet and accommodating. She talks with you throughout the majority of the process, giving tips, asking questions, and even just keeping a light conversation. She asked me if I was hungry several times in the seven hours I was there. She works with 2-3 clients at a time, with one of the clients being a major job (me) and the other 1-2 only needing touch-ups or toning. At the end, I bought some sulfate-free shampoo and conditioners from her and she was nice enough to give me some oils for my hair for free! Ultimately, I can say that although my hair didn't come out exactly the way I wanted it (I can't get over how short it is now...) I don't think my money went to waste at all. In fact, I am absolutely in love!!! It's a great change, and I'm glad I found Annie to get my hair done. I will definitely be back. I waited 2 months but it finally happened. I got to see Annie on a TUESDAY. Called off work, put my life on hold, and went to get my hair done. My hair had been HORRIBLY brassy (literally, just imagine an orange crayon) for the past few months and I just couldn't get out of it because my hair was previously red. After reading the GREAT reviews (dont worry, I read the bad ones too), i decided to book my appointment TWO MONTHS out. When the day came, I couldn't have been happier. I do admit, waiting for a hairstylist for two months may seem nuts but trust me when I say, ANNIE IS A HAIR GOD. I went in at 3 and there were 2 people already there ON A TUESDAY. My hair took 6 hours in total but goddamn, she did a good job. Not only did my hair look great, but Annie AND her assistant, Brittany, was wonderful to be around. They were cheerful and spent a great deal amount of time explaining why my hair turned out the way it did and how to fix it. They advise on how to take care of it, what the requirement was to keep it ashy, AND OFFERED ME FOOD AND DRINKS. Can it GET any better? YES. IT CAN. BECAUSE MY HAIR CAME OUT WAAAAAY better then expected. Her and her assistant do NOT take short cuts and just pour toner down your hair. They're polite, caring, and honestly just genuine people who does what they say they would do instead of "oh it didnt work out the way you wanted because blah blah blah". I do admit, she is really high in demand and you will need to wait but trust me when I say, she will do miracles for your hair. I asked her to do my hair balayage ombré because I wanted to get the nice violet purple she did on one of her customers and she was so informative about the process and truthful in the fact that I would need two sessions to achieve that look considering I was coming from black virgin hair. The first session she would get me to ashy blonde and the second session (3 months later) she could get me to the desired purple. My first session with her was amazing. In 5 hours she was able to turn my black virgin hair into something amazing! I thought we would only be able to achieve blonde balayage during the first session but she was able to add some of my desired purple into it. So we came out with a beautiful ashy lavender tint on my blonde hair! I was so in love!! She also sold me purple shampoo and opalex conditioner as well as the right shampoo and conditioner for my hair which was super awesome and convenient. I when I used the purple shampoo after getting my hair dyed (about 3 days after), some of the strands turned what I had thought, brassy. I texted annie and she immediately responded and wanted to assist and fix it. When I saw her she told me it was because some of my lavender strands were so light that when contrasted with the blonde strands, they looked brassy. She was more than happy for "color correct" the hair for me so I would be satisfied and that effort contributes to why I'm giving her 5 stars. She was truly worried about my satisfaction of her work and that shows she cares more about her customers happiness than making big bucks. I will definitely come back to annie (the $$$ is worth it) in the future and will hopefully get that lavender hair! P.S. Spend the extra $$ on the opalex if you're bleaching. Deciding that it was kind of a waste to cancel the appointment with such a renowned hairstylist, I decided to go in her place. Let me just say, it was soooo freakin' worth the wait. I usually get my hair done in Rowland Heights because I feel like Asia-town would know Asian hair, but the experience is so different in Annie's salon. Now I don't know if I'll ever go back. It started with consulting. I wanted to go a light lavender, and given my weird hair history, I knew it would be better if I could chat with Annie about my history and my goals. Although we couldn't manage a face-to-face appointment, Annie was really nice and emailed me her suggestions and recommendations. It was impossible to get my hair lightened that much in one session, and she told me so. I was pretty flexible, and simply told her what she thought she could do best, as long as it was some shade of purple. Fast forward to the day of the appointment, and Annie and her assistant, Nikki, great me with big smiles on their faces at 11am. Nikki immediately started foiling my hair. Knowing how long this process would take (I gave myself the whole day to sit in that chair) I brought along books to keep myself entertained, because usually my hairdressers would leave me in the chair and go work on other clients. Not so in Annie's salon. Nikki and Annie chat and keep you entertained in the best way possible. Considering that you're spending a good amount of time and money at her salon, Annie really makes sure you get the best kind of experience. As my hair lightened, it turned into this unsightly pink because of my previous hair dye. Unfazed, Annie decided to go pink instead. I think her problem-solving abilities and quick thinking really impressed me the most. She knows what she's doing. Long story short, after about three movies, five full DJ sets, and two books, I came out with the most gorgeous amber rose color in my hair. Not what I expected, but definitely more than what I could've hoped for given the circumstances. Worth every single second and penny I spent. Annie is such a wonderful stylist! I came to her salon through a referral and I couldn't be more happy about my cut and color. I was previously traveling nearly 2 hours through traffic to go to my old stylist, and not only is Annie's location super convenient but she truly takes the time with each customer to make sure that everyone leaves satisfied. I instantly felt a nice and inviting atmosphere upon coming into her own suite inside Sola Studios and fortunately the time that it took to get my hair done passed by fairly quickly since she was such good company. I always seek recommendations from stylists in terms of what would look best in terms of different colors/shades and Annie helped me choose something that suited me very well. I highly recommend Annie! It was my first time going to her and I've never been happier with my hair. Both her and her assistant Nikki worked on my hair and it came out absolutely amazing. They both are so welcoming and talk to you like they've known you forever. They both really take the time and effort to make sure your hair comes out right. I came in with year old grown out balayage which turned orange and came out with a super ashy blonde which I told her I wanted. Initially, she mentioned that I might have to do 2 sessions since my hair was black but supposedly my hair is relatively easy to lift thankfully! I appreciate that she was honest about it instead of just killing my hair to get what I wanted. It took about 5.5 hours but it's so worth it and to me, it didn't feel that long. I've tried to go blonde multiple times for years but other hairstylists haven't be able to deliver and achieve a nice blend like Annie. She took me from dark dark brown to a beautiful shade of blonde in just ONE session. Even my husband who was against me attempting yet again to go blonde loves my hair. (This account is shared by my husband and I, this review is by Sophia) Where to begin. One thing I've learned from reading reviews is that although the 5 star reviews are important, what's more important are the poor reviews. Please do your homework and read through the few but spot on reviews written by some brave women here. I've personally never written a one star review like this and I struggled with posting this but I realized that I can't, not. I, like all of Annie's clients, patiently waited 2-3 months to book an appointment with her and had the basic expectations to 1) have my hair done by Annie, 2) be listened to and treated with integrity and maybe, most importantly- to not be leaving with fried, broken hair that's about 5 inches shorter than what I asked for. 1) I understand the need for having an assistant but I expect that if I'm paying $$$$ that I would have at least all of the important aspects of hair coloring done by the person I'm paying to see. She takes on 3 clients at a time, so she will cut your hair and start the coloring process, but will randomly hand it off to her assistant without much supervision. I get having an assistant wash, dry/style maybe even tone, but having someone else haphazardly take over placing bleach on parts of the hair randomly and not in a timely manner is frankly disrespectful to the paying customer. So she'll bleach your hair for maybe 30 minutes, work on another client while the assistant is working on another while you wait at least another 30 min before the next area of your hair is bleached. I don't know how this makes sense. Because she takes on 3 clients at a time (in a very very small space), there's no possible way she can give you her undivided attention. She doesn't set a timer to keep track of how long your hair is processing; and when some parts have been bleaching for over 1-2 hours before the next part is bleached by her assistant, how could anyone keep track? 2)So because of this haphazard process of coloring multiple clients at once, she barely checked on how the hair was lifting. Once the bleach was washed off, I could see my hair literally coming out in chunks, to the point that she told her assistant to clean the brush. Multiple times. If that isn't the stuff of girl nightmares I don't know what is. I was in shock and when I asked about it, she replied that it's just the ends that are coming out, which she would've trimmed away anyway. Um, what now? Just. No words. 3) So about the hair cut. I used to have long and super thick hair, which was several inches past my chest. I asked for a 2-3 inch trim. Prior to the coloring, she did cut a good amount which I was ok with. After coloring, I was in such shock about all the breakage before I realized she had cut maybe another 2 inches off without asking....I suspect she was trying to cover up all the broken hair? I am left with wispy, broken hair past my collarbone. In no world would that constitute a trim. I can't. 4) Color wise, I asked for icy blonde, face framing color and bringing the blonde up higher. I have been getting bayalage/ombré/baby lights by various places in SoCal since 2013, so I know what I'm asking for. She acted like she understood what I wanted but at the end , I let her know that I wasn't happy with the results- it was marginally lighter at the ends (what was left of it), but my roots/crown/face area was still. Black. After 7 hours. Again, no words. She made excuses about how she was too focused on my ends to focus on my roots which absolutely makes no sense. After she curled my hair, she kept asking if I like it... if I didn't like it 10 minute ago, why would that change now? She obviously did not want to hear anything except that I'm happy with it, which clearly I was not. 5) Payment. She only tells you at the time of payment she takes venmo. I understand paying taxes suck, we all hate it, but it isn't professional to expect to get paid via Venmo. But why not let your clients know that at the time of booking? I have never encountered a stylist who requested Venmo, vs using cc or pay via the style seat app Overall, I felt that she didn't care about what the client wants, or the integrity of your hair, even when it literally, is falling off/breaking off enough to fill a brush up multiple times. Worst of all, I paid almost $500 for my hair to be ruined (300 for color, 65 for cut, 35 for B3 which she left on for maybe 5 minutes, plus tip). Why did I even tip? Why do I and perhaps a lot of other women, feel the need to "be nice" even when it's so completely undeserved? So full of regret rn. The only thing I can take away from this maddening experience is no matter how rude it may make me feel, to speak up louder and stand up for what I want and what I'm paying for. I came to Annie because of some yelping and instagraming. I had virgin Asian hair. In the first session I was able to go Rose Gold. After 3 months, I came back for another bleach so I can go "baby blue". Long story short, I wasn't able to achieve "baby blue" just yet. Prob will need 1 more bleaching session. However, I'm satisfied and happy with the outcome from the second session. Now I have some silver, blue and ashy hair. Getting the hair color I want is a process. First off, Annie is amazing!! After having the same hair stylist for 10 years (and being a little disappointed with my hair color the past few times), I decided it was time for a change. Annie Trang is so amazing at what she does that I just HAVE to leave a yelp review. I've been getting my hair done by Annie(+her assistant) for a little over a year now, and I never walk out of her cute lil studio disappointed. And do not fret- her assistant is just as amazing! Annie is a sweet, bubbly girl who really knows what she's doing. YES, it does take 5-7 hours to get my hair how I want it, but it is so worth it. My balayage ombré is always blended out so nicely and has so much dimension. I have had a balayage ombré for about 5 years now, and none of my previous stylists managed to keep my hair healthy and have a low maintenance regrowth. Ever since Annie has started doing my hair, I don't have to worry about my roots growing out and looking ugly-- Because when they do grow out, it looks so natural.
