After loving how my hair turned out the first time around, I had to come back to Stay Gold! I booked an appointment with Sara again. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it to my 1st appointment, but Sara was kind enough to reschedule me, which I appreciated a ton. I was able to make it to the rescheduled date. This time around, instead of asking to get a balayage done, I asked Sara to give me some lighter highlights all over my hair. I've never gotten anything drastically done to my hair before, so this was the biggest request I've ever done for myself. I was nervous but excited about the outcome, especially after loving how my hair came out the last time I visited Sara. It took 5 hrs. to achieve the new do. It didn't even feel like I was at the salon for that long because I talked to both Sara and Julie (the other stylist at this salon) the majority of the time I was there. Sara and Julie are both so easy to talk! I definitely enjoyed talking to them both, thanks ladies! Sara did an amazing job and I'm glad I came back to her! I absolutely love the new look! Blonde. Silver. Turquoise. Green. Pink. Brown. Purple. You name it; Sara's made it happen for my hair. When I first met Sara, I had no idea how to properly take care of my hair. I would wash it every day with drugstore products, followed up by an intensive straightening process without any heat protectant. In fact, it had been almost three years since I had even CUT my hair! Yikes! "Hot mess" doesn't even begin to cover it. During my first appointment with Sara, she was nothing short of kind, accommodating, and sweet. I will be the first to admit that I am pretty shy when I get in the salon chair - but she made me feel totally comfortable! The initial consultation was great. She made sure to have all my hair goals in mind before even touching my hair, which was incredible. Back then, I was terrified of cutting off much length at all, and she was considerate of that. Even though I definitely should have chopped off about four inches at that time, she listened to my wishes and gave me a small trim instead. We then had a short talk about hair care, and I looked absolutely flawless as soon as I walked out the door! (Tip: Ask her for her signature flat iron curls - they last FOR-FREAKIN'-EVER!) I followed her hair instructions to a tee and was amazed to find that my hair would stay salon-perfect every day! Obviously, I returned to Sara many times. Almost every single time, I would want something different. And every single time, she delivered! Sometimes the change I desired would be so dramatic that I would have to wait a few sessions to reach my desired color. That meant I would sometimes have to settle for a color that wasn't exactly what I wanted - but even then I was super stoked and happy with how my hair turned out! Even if it meant staying past the salon's closing time, she made sure that I was completely satisfied at each visit. She's definitely a hair perfectionist in the very best way! (There's a reason that our relationship has lasted much longer than most of my boyfriends. ;P) Of course, sometimes Sara would be fully booked when I was in need of a trim or color refresh. That's where, if I was lucky enough to catch an appointment with her, Julie would come in! She's also amazingly patient, hilarious, and talented. I have been seeing Sara Katz for almost two years now and I can confidently say that she is the best hairstylist I have ever encountered. I have always had very thick, frizzy, unruly hair that no one in the beauty business seemed to know how to deal with. I've burned through probably a dozen stylists who all left my hair looking and feeling like death, until I met Sara! She has given me multiple stunning hair colors, cuts and even extensions. This review is long, long overdue! I've been seeing Sara for my hair styling needs for two years. (Time sure flies!) First, Sara is an exceptionally fun, kind, interesting individual, and I always look forward to my appointments. Second, and probably more important, Sara gives a PHENOMENAL cut! I've been happily stuck on my bob, which is long in the front and short in the back, for some years now. My biggest anxiety in searching for a new stylist was trying to find someone who could cut *precisely.* There's nothing worst than a slightly asymmetrical bob - especially when you paid for symmetry. My previous stylist wasn't great, but, well, she was the devil I knew. Ultimately, when she decided to dedicate more hours to school, I was pushed to try someone new. Sara has been a godsend. My hair is always perfect and I get compliments wherever I go. I only ask that if my review convinced you to give Sara a call, that you leave a midweek, 6pm-ish appointment for me. I have gotten my hair colored by Sara 3 times so far and I don't ever want to go to another salon again!! I have been to so many different salons over the years and I have never been in love with any other hairstylists. In the past, I have always left other salons feeling like I wish they did more of this or I wish they didn't do this. I have very thick, black, Asian hair, so I have never been able to get bright, vivid colors on my hair. The hairstylists will either say it's very difficult to lighten my hair or they will discourage me from getting bright colors from the beginning. I first saw Sara Katz when she was working at Glo Salon in Downtown Fullerton. Glo had an incredible reputation for beautiful hair color, and I believe it's in large part due to Sara's amazing work. I progressed with my color slowly and Sara was only too happy to go at whatever pace I felt comfortable. I began with just an ombre, then eventually graduated to a full lightening with a balayage ombre and highlights. What started out as a look that I wanted to keep for a summer is now something I've maintained with Sara for two years. Whenever I leave her chair, we practically fight over who gets to run their fingers through my hair first because it always comes out luxuriously soft and healthy. Rating is for appointment process. I called to make an appointment, but got a message to text instead...ok. Texted...hours later, received a response. Then it was a constant back and forth to set up an appointment that could've more easily been done on the phone. After over an hour of text messages, set up an appointment for waaaaaaaay later than I needed and agreed to pay their appointment fee. It took TWO DAYS to get a request for payment. By then, I was long gone on a trip out of the country. I was willing to wait for an appointment at a later date because this place has received so many good reviews. But I am way too busy to spend an hour text messaging a receptionist for a hair appointment and another two days just to pay. Poor customer service, poor processes. read more

She is great with Asian hair, and yes this was a huge concern of mine when I was looking for a new stylist. But all of her Asian clients' hair looked SO GOOD. Also, one of my friends goes to her as well and her hair always looked so perfect and healthy still. Sara and Julie are the best! When I first came in to see Sara, I knew I wanted a new look. I had long, straight hair and wanted to cut it short, but I was nervous. Sara was talked me through the decision, never pressuring me or making me feel rushed. She recommended an in-between cut that would be easier to grow out if I changed my mind. I decided to do that. A few weeks later I knew I was ready to go the distance, and went back - but Sara wasn't available, so Julie helped me out and gave me the cutest pixie cut ever. Sara continued to help me maintain the short cut for a little over a year until I decided it was time to grow it back out. She was there every step of the way to give me little trims and adjustments to make sure it was growing out evenly and looked as normal as humanly possible. I trust her judgment completely, and I love that she is always honest and will do what is best for my hair. I continue to visit Sara for highlights, and she is most definitely a color master! From the craziest of colors to the most natural-looking highlights, I have seen her do it all! Sara and Julie were absolutely awesome!! I booked an appointment after finding their Yelp page and right from the beginning they were always trying their best to accommodate me and make things work. Between school and work it was kind of hard trying to find a time that worked for both of us but they always gave me options and tried to work around my schedule. After the first session of toner, it wasn't really the color I wanted and I almost didn't say anything to her, but I did and she went right ahead and fixed it for me, no questions asked. Came in to transform my very faded purple balayage into a dark blue balayage, and I'm super happy with the results! This was my second time doing a vivid color in a salon, and honestly, this was the better experience of the two, as it turns out that the past stylist I had worked with (at another salon) didn't really balayage my hair and seemed to have just highlighted throughout. This ended up being a bit of bummer, as it meant that I couldn't take my hair as bright blue as I would have liked, but Julie did a great job thoroughly bleaching my hair and getting the blue even throughout. She was really helpful answering my questions about products and after-care - she even tackled my sadness about my lack of volume by doing some light layering along with my trim! Overall, this was a great experience - I'm still new to doing vivid colors, so taking the color plunge remains slightly scary, but Julie did an amazing job bringing me to an awesome new color! read more
