I have had two different stylists over the past four years at S&S Salon and Spa. Both stylists gave me good cuts. I will not return there, however, as the most recent stylist I had was rude. I have an injured leg and the injury happened during the time frame that she was cutting my hair. It did not happen at the hair salon. I went from a normal gait when I first met her to using a cane. Last time she styled my hair earlier in the year, she asked me if I had considered that my weight was the reason for my bad leg. I am quite aware I am carrying a little bit of extra weight, and I did not need nor appreciate her input on my body or injury cause. Her remark left me speechless and barely able to respond. A hair styling appointment should feel uplifting, not disheartening and degrading. I will not be returning to the salon. I am not stating the stylist's name so as not to embarrass her. I do believe, however, that the owner should be aware of this inappropriate remark made to a long time customer at her salon by one of her stylists. read more

This was my first time at S & S, and my hairdresser was Carmen. When I first walked in I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who offered water, coffee or snacks. I requested a cut and balayage before my upcoming Mediterranean cruise, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out! Carmen was very knowledgeable and helped me realize that I've been using the wrong kind of shampoo. For so long I've been using a moisturizing shampoo, which made my hair more flat and oily, when I should be using more of a volumizing shampoo. She had so many useful tidbits of information that I know I'll be implementing in my hair routine! I ended up purchasing the shampoo and volumizing spray that Carmen used during the appointment. I literally woke up and thought I really needed a haircut. I've tried getting one at my usual spot, but they can just never achieve what I wanted. I came across this spot through Yelp and decided to book a same day appointment. I booked with Moe at 1:30, but I came early during her lunch. It's fine it's a good salon but as a newcomer it's annoying when I'm purposely really trying to set myself up with someone amazing and new nearby bc my current hair person is just too far for me and I'm trying to find someone close to home. And I didn't realize I had been to this salon before but in that same chair they give to the consultant or new hair stylist, doesn't mean they're new to the job just maybe to that salon. But I specifically asked for someone young and helpful to keep my hair looking young as I know I'm not in my 20s anymore but I'm so sick of going to hair stylists much older than me and styling me in a way that I feel is outdated and not up to par on what I wanted. And it's like way shorter than I expected and I know it's just hair but it's my confidence along with it. I don't think I would be coming back. I loved my service from when I called to the end of my cut! I was calling around finding a place to walk in for a woman's cut as I'm busy so my schedule varies and I don't always have time for haircuts. I found this place on Yelp and they were able to take me in. Parking was a breeze and the overall neighborhood was nice. When I checked in and I met Carmen she immediately knew what I was asking for. I have thick hair but I'm also trying to grow it out as I had shoulder lengths hair in the past and it's currently at my armpits. Without giving up any length she gave me beautiful long layers and even made the front the PERFECT length because I expressed I wanted to still be able to tuck my hair behind my ear. The washing of my hair felts so nice, the cutting, and styling was a breeze. I even loved at the end she told me what I could do at home and use to maintain the look she did when blow drying. Originally I'd been scheduled for Amanda but was notified over the phone that she had gotten the cold and if it was okay for another stylist to take care of me on the same day but later in the afternoon. So this glowing review is for my stylist Moe, who was kind enough to step in and did a terrific job with my inverted bob and addressed my worries. I'm more than thrilled with the end result! Moe's a vivacious, incredibly friendly gal, and I'll definitely book future appointments for retouching and a trim! EXPERIENCE I came a little early to my appointment so the stylist was finishing up with her customer; but Moe did spot me and tossed me a welcoming "I'm almost done; just make yourself comfortable and take a seat." The receptionist at the front desk was also full of smiles and cheerfully offered water, coffee, or tea while I waited. Funnily enough, that same customer exchanged jokes with me on her way out about it being my turn now in the hot seat, and I joked back. Just good vibes all around. As an interior designer, I also have to be mindful of how my image presents itself to my clients who tend to be on the conservative side; to err on the side of caution, I knew I couldn't go too wild with my hair. I also had virgin hair so I was incredibly nervous if I'd even end up liking my first balayage or end up regretting it. Deciding to color my hair had been a spur of the moment decision and out of my comfort zone. So I came to my appointment ready to ask my stylist for her professional opinion on which two styles fit my criteria the best. After seeing the inspiration photos on my phone and discussing whether a traditional balayage would look more flattering, chic, and professional/subtle versus a peekaboo underdye, Moe gave me her brutal honesty--which I encouraged--and she guided me to the correct choice. I really admired how direct and how confident she was in her skills, and it really helped assure me that I was in good hands. We ended up chatting throughout the appointment while she did her magic and, overall, the customer service was A+. Moe even offered to bring me water or chocolate while my hair was being blowdried. RESULTS I was appreciative that the stylist next to us also saw Moe's work and praised the balayage color we ended up choosing. It was very encouraging. By the time I left the salon, I got two additional compliments about my hair later that night when I went out shopping. So this is a testament to how amazing of a job Moe did! MAKING AN APPOINTMENT I saw the salon reviews and wanted to see if it lived up to the hype (spoiler: it did). Booking appointments is quite easy; because this was my first time, I asked a couple questions and shared my inspo pics before we confirmed the next availability that fits my schedule. I think they also do walk-ins but just be aware that their salon is packed. I highly recommend calling/texting to book an appointment in advance just to be safe. PARKING There is plenty of parking in the parking lot behind the building. It was fairly easy to find a parking space. PAYMENT Balayage is $200. I'd opted for Zelle, but they do either cash or Zelle. Just have your phone ready at the end of the session to Zelle the payment to your stylist. read more
