We sat down with our tastings and most of the time we didn't even have to back back to the bar for the next because their wonderful staff walked over and filled us up. It was okay. We made the most out of it. We went on a Monday and the sommelier had a dry sense of humor, "you're making me work," "now I have to clean dishes." It was funny at the beginning. What wasn't cool was that we were told the heater couldn't be turned on b/c "it was a weekend thing." The view and ambience were delightful. The wine was not to our liking but we really enjoyed our pizza. All this was offset by very poor hospitality. We choose the Groupon coupon deal. We could have our wine tasting only inside then we could have our pizza outside. We elected to purchase wine so we could have it with our pizza. We could not take our tasting pours outside. It was clear to us that the changes are for the convince of the staff without regards to customers. We have been visiting wineries for three days and this is the only place we felt unwelcome. We took a great tour, facilitated at the last minute due to me missing that you needed to call for a reservation. The food was pretty good, and the pizza was the best I've had out of a wood fired stove like that. They really WATCHED it --didn't just put it in and let it get black on the bottom. The wines are good. I'm a sweet white wine person, so it wasn't my favorite ever, but my hubby loved the reds. The entire group seemed to like the wines, and our host was amazing and awesome. I LOVED Ankeny's wines! Minimal to no oak, wide variety of whites, blends and reds at very reasonable prices. We took 6 bottles home! The vineyard is located a few miles west of the 5 but you drive through a wildlife preserve to get there. The blue winery signs are posted at every intersection so you can turn off your GPS once you exit the highway. The vineyard and winery is very welcoming and home to the winery owner so his puppies were the first to greet us as we pulled up. Kris poured our wines and was very personable and friendly. They were adding a second coat of stain to their deck so we weren't able to check out their new domed woodburning pizza oven. Here's a tip: pack a picnic, buy a bottle of Ankeny's vino and drive to the top of the vineyards where they have several picnic tables set up to take advantage of the AMAZING views under the big trees. There's an old cemetery (Cox Cemetery) up there but since it wasn't mowed, I didn't wade through the waist-high grass to check out the old gravestones. Beautiful, serene setting with views of the cemetery, vineyards, emu, llama and sheep along with the entire valley! What more could you want? read more

We visited for a wine tasting and tour and had a nice time. It wasn't until a few weeks later that we had issues. I returned home one day to find one of the bottle we purchased during our visit had corked itself. Disappointed, I emailed to ask if they would replace the bottle. This was the response I received: "Thank you. We haven't had a corked bottle in many years, if ever. Can you really blame me for doubting your claim? Maybe it is just buyer's remorse? Can you think of any other merchant who would refund money without asking to see the claimed defective product? Do you think you are being unreasonable? I do. Life is too short to spend time dealing with unreasonable people." All I can say is I was disappointed with the lack of customer service and they left a lot to be desired. I found the response to be sarcastic and insulting. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

This place is definitely more "Oregon in the 1980's"-style, it is nothing compared to the modern, exquisite tasting rooms that I'm used to. So, a little out-dated, but kinda classic & rustic. I can't sugar coat this. Their wines were pretty awful. I went with a group of 4, the other 3 people got tastings, I just ordered a glass of the Cab Franc (if I recall correctly). But, it was definitely a good decision, since the overall taste of all the wines in the flight was not that great. The biggest redemption for this winery is their Pizza Oven. That was nice, to get some solid food at a winery. But, even still, the taste I was anticipating did not come close to being matched by what was actually presented to us. I think if this place wants to be still relevant in the next decade they should re-vamp their wine production practices and modernize the place a little bit. Great wine + beautiful vineyard + friendly winery dog Lily + personable tasting room attendant + fantastic wines (red, white and dessert) + amazing carrot cake. Needed a place to hang out for a few hours to do some work with my two pups and parked myself in the tasting room. All of us received warm hospitality the entire time from both the tasting room attendant and the winery guests. I tried every wine that was available and my favorites were the chocolate dessert wine and the Riesling. The chocolate dessert wine wouldn't been perfect poured over a bowl of vanilla ice cream. We liked the Chardonnay and ordered a bottle to drink there and also ordered a BBQ chicken pizza which was good. This place seemed amazing the first few times we went there. But, a few times we came early and tried to get seating and we were put away from everyone else because we weren't members. Apparently special members get priority over plain old ordinary people. SO, if your not rich enough to spend alot of money each time you go there I wouldn't bother. The pizza was good, but the management isn't! We much more prefer other wineries where you are special no matter how much your buying!!! Bummer because The view is beautiful, the wines are decent, the outdoor hang is nice, but the service was not. The waitress had an attitude for no apparent reason. As my husband and I were walking out she said, "excuse me" in a really snotty way. Additional customers witnessed this and commented on it as well. I understand people have off nights, but this interaction actually bummed us out. We were having a hard day and attended the winery to feel refreshed and energized, not to leave feeling worse. There are plenty of food service jobs where you can get away with a bad attitude. The winery is not one of those places. read more

The outdoor patio was gorgeous - just what we wanted on a hot summer afternoon. We got there right when they opened, so it took about an hour to get our food, which was fine. Be aware that the wood fired pizza takes a bit but totally worth it. Great selection of wines - our group of 5 adults enjoyed tasting and splitting a bottle chilled. My 2 year old daughter was also well taken care of and they always kept our water glasses full - much appreciated as it was 98 degrees out that day! Will definitely be back again. read more

I just had one word when I reached this winery..."ahhhh." Maybe it was because my stop here was at the tail end of a long bike ride, but either way, this is a gem of a spot. This is a wonderful place to spend an evening with friends sipping great wine and catching up. Compared to most tasting rooms, this one is better equipped in terms of seating. I stopped by with my family on a Saturday afternoon and was greeted by very friendly dog, and equally friendly staff. We didnt spend a great amount of time due to anxious kids, but we tasted several wines and had a glass while the kids devoured some appetizers. The gentleman serving us was very helpfull and also extremely patient with my children ( sorry I don't remember you name, but thank you again). Very good place for wine tasting and the wine was amazing! The pizza was also very very good! I don't write many reviews but something needed to be said about the service. We were a group of younger girls with a groupon for wine tasting and pizza. The server we had made us feel like we were stupid for asking simple questions. We were going to sit on the nice outside area and buy bottles of wine to drink and share but then this happened. We went up to ask for a menu of the wines he had tasted. He looks at us and goes, "you have menus on your table, don't you?" We were wanting the list in front of him of all the wines we tasted so we could pick a bottle. The way he was acting was demeaning and rude the whole time and that was the last straw. We walked right out and they lost our business to the vineyard down the road. I would love to go back if I had another sever. The other girl and tall gentleman were very nice and accommodating when they came around. The server wearing the turtle necklace needs to reassess his attitude. Especially because he didn't know we all served tables and was going to get a good tip. Ankeny Vineyard is a slice of Heaven! We enjoyed amazing Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris on the deck looking out onto the vineyard and had 2 of their amazing wood fired pizza's! Felt like we were in the Napa Valley! We didn't want to leave and will definitely be back. read more

Went here Friday afternoon for dinner with friends. The pizza was good. Very good. The reason I'm giving only two stars is for two reasons. A 12-inch pizza is $18. They are good, but very thin crust - so we ordered six pizzas throughout the afternoon/evening so that our group (four adults, five children) would have enough to eat. The total bill (three adults had wine, the rest had soda) was almost $200. The second reason is service. The two guys handling the pizza were great. The lady who helped us was also great. But I watched a lady ask to order some additional food, (hummus plate, pizza) and the lady at the counter couldn't have been more rude. She told her they closed the kitchen at 7:30 (ummm, who does that on a Friday night? We're not in downtown Salem for crying out loud) and that she'd have to ask the cook what was out. She was rude to her about who was handling her tab too. I couldn't even believe what I was witnessing. The place is good, but I'm not about to go back and end up dealing with that woman. I wouldn't have been as patient as the customer on Friday, I'm afraid. read more
