Met up with some friends for breakfast. Large parking area with a short walk to the clubhouse. Golf clubhouse setting, beautiful scenery, too bad it was raining so patio seating was out of the question. Ordered Western omelette and the breakfast burrito. If this is what the golfers eat on a daily basis then sign me up. Complimentary ramekins of fruit before the main dishes arrived. Omelette was stuffed with fresh ingredients, fluffy and moist. Perfect ratio of onions, peppers, ham, etc. Potatos were crispy and fluffy with a side of whole grain toast. Breakfast burrito was grilled, stuffed with egg, avocado and bacon with crispy potatoes on the side Fireplace burning in the background, attentive staff, surrounded by 2 eighteen home golf courses, did I die and go to heaven. Tons of parking, gorgeous golf club, incredible clubhouse/venue. I recently came for a friend's wedding. The tented area was big and the canopy was sturdy enough to cover everyone from the rainy weather. It was also situated right next to the reception room indoors so that was convenient. Cocktail hour was quite good. The honey glazed fried chicken drumstick lollipops were definitely the best hors d'oeuvres out of the bunch. The servers came out often and I got some good grub in before the reception began. The cocktail hour bar was also one of the best I've experience (typically, the indoor reception bar is more comprehensive but this one was great). The patio is also stunning. Ample room to sit, chill and relax. A bunch of us decided to take some photos along the green as well. The gold course is immaculate and well-kept. The reception room had beautiful stained glass in the ceiling and shiny hardwood dance floor in the middle. The speakers were much better than the ones at Hotel X. For dinner we got salad to start, followed by steak and then mango mousse cake for dessert. I was very surprised that we each got a full steak for the entrée. When I RSVP-ed my expectations were low (I was expecting a 6 oz tenderloin cut into like 3 slices or something) but was so satisfied seeing a 12-14 oz NY strip intact on the dish. It honestly looked like I could've ordered the plate from the Keg. The dessert bar was kinda weak and I think the venue could improve on this. Aside from the wedding cake there were only like 4 types of bite sized pastries and a tray of not-so-fresh cookies. Compared to the dessert bar at Paradise Banquet Center, this was not the best of impressions. I do wish the washrooms were a lil closer to our reception dining room but that's a nitpick as far as this review goes. All in all, a very solid wedding venue and experience! read more

Fairway of Lights was just OK, nothing special. Could be improved with some attention to detail. I understand one Santa however one face painter was disgraceful. Fire show was good but difficult to see. Would have been nice to have a row of seating at the front for the kids. Better yet, bring in some gymnasium style seating Do everyone could see. And the free drinks ... a nice thought but providing small cups and only filling half with hot chocolate or other beverages very sad. I've been to Angus Glen a couple times now to attend events and not to golf. The venue is quite impressive. They can definitely host hundreds of people, including both indoor and outdoor tables. At the last event, I opted for an outdoor table since we're still in a pandemic. The outdoor area is quite nice and the beautiful scenery and gorgeous weather made it even better. You can still hear what's going on inside since they have speakers outdoors. The catered food at the venue is also excellent. I had the steak with vegetables. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. I found the steak itself to be a little chewy and would have liked it a little less cooked, but what can you do about it when catering for hundreds. I tried the salmon and it was cooked perfectly. For dessert, we had a tres leches cake. I found it really sweet and a bit dry on the inside. At the end of the evening, they put out fruit and from what I heard the pineapple and the watermelon were excellent. read more

I had the pleasure of playing in a tournament on Angus Glen's South Course, host of many corporate tournaments, including The Canadian Open, and more recently, the World Junior Girls Tournament. I also co-hosted a small golf tournament, two days prior. The weather, on both days, was a contrast of extremes. On Sunday, the day of my tournament, it was a lot cooler than anticipated. A couple of days later, in the tournament I played in, the temperature was a record high for October 1st. We enjoyed the warmth and blue skies while playing but it poured shortly after! It POURED! On both days, the (South) course conditions were excellent, probably a reflection of the recent World Junior Girls Tournament. Lucky for us! The greens and fairways were well manicured and the pace of play was good. On Sunday, the staffing was very low, resulting in a few complaints from our players. The halfway house was closed and most of our players never saw the lone beverage cart making its rounds. Had they known, they probably would have had something from the Silo Grill prior to playing. The service, dinner after the round, and overall experience, mostly made up for it. Tuesday's round started with a variety of breakfast options, with something for everybody. Each player also received a $100 gift card for use in the Pro Shop. Yay! With this being a much larger tournament, using both courses, the staffing was a lot better. From dropping off my golf bag, registering, starting the tournament, and even finishing, it was a really good experience. The GPS screen on the golf carts kept us informed on course conditions and even some impending bad weather towards the end of our round. There were food and beverage stations on the course, provided by sponsors, and the beverage carts were out making the rounds. Everything was complimentary! Yay! Following the round, there was a reception and prizing in the Great Hall. There were several food stations, offering something for everybody. It was all good! It was a very well organized and enjoyable event. Angus Glen was a great venue. The golf course, hospitality service, and all the staff really delivered! Disclaimer: I worked at Angus Glen for ten years, ending over three years ago. I still have friends working there but this review is unbiased. 3.5 stars **Please note: this review is for its restaurant, not the overall golf club. I was here with a large group. It was a surprise baby shower and so we booked ahead for a private room. The golf club was really accommodating, the room we had was private where we were assigned a very helpful lady. The room was setup and ready ahead of time with menus and everything ready to go. Our server of the evening ensured that we were taken care of and ensured that we were taken care of. 5 stars for the effort and hospitality for such a large group. The food: The prices are amazing for what it is...compared to other restaurants and the effort in plating was there, large portions, food came at the right temperature (hot food hot, salads cold...I have had otherwise at other places before and so it's something I value). If only more attention is paid on the actual food...wings were over cooked and tasteless other than the sauce, the meatballs were way too tough+dry, chicken on my friend's plate was also tasteless. The good news is that this is something that can be easily fixed and I am looking forward to try the brunch menu. read more

My girl friends and I went for breakfast at the golf club. It was nice and quiet because we went on a weekday which was nice. We seated by the window facing the golf club. It was nice as it was snowing, the Christmas tree was up. Very cozy. The pricing for the breakfast menu was very reasonable. I honestly would have thought they would bring up the price . Aha you almost got me! I was THIS close to signing with Angus Glen to host my own wedding, but it just missed out. Angus Glen Golf Club was a close second, and probably my parent's top choice. And who can blame them?? Those gorgeous rolling green pastures, long private driveway leading up to a stunning wooden estate...it was SO CLOSE to becoming the one. We weren't even going to consider this place. Mostly because my fiancé and I are dummies and thought that people were referring to the community centre when they talked about "Angus Glen". We attended a bridal show here and while we were supposed to be looking for vendors, we got distracted by how beautiful the structure was. It was an incredibly large space that acts as basically a blank canvas for you to decorate as you please. We met with Andrea, who was also running the bridal open house and was courteous enough to give us the tour. She was quickly responsive with emails and made it easy for us to envision dealing with her on our wedding day. Prices were in line with other specialty venues and at the time, were the most affordable of the 4 venues we've seen. Things that we absolutely loved were: 1) That amazing outdoor golf club surrounding. No doubt pictures would turn out perfect here. That long driveway leading up to the entrance also gave a very regal feel. 2) The outdoor ceremony area. Unfortunately, it was nighttime so we didn't get to see it in person, but the pictures looked gorgeous. Even if it rains, you don't have to be worried, because they have a giant canopy that can go up. 3) The wonderful Marquee tented area, which again, we didn't get to see in person but looked amazing in pictures. A covered outdoor area was the dream (at that time). 4) It's in Markham. I live in Markham. Most of my friends and family are from Markham. How amazing it is to just be able to hop home after the crazy stressful day. I'm gonna chalk it up to bad timing that they didn't get my business. On a weeknight, we saw the venue. We were told to come back during the weekend to see all those lovely outdoor areas in daylight. Saturday morning, we saw our one other venue with the intention of visiting Angus Glen right afterwards. Needless to say, we fell in love, and Angus Glen fell out of the running. Oh well! Came here for an event rather than golf, Angus Glen GC is a beauty on the outskirts of Markham. Amazing amount of space and it's definitely a great place for weddings and photos. Basically we came for a three course dinner with roughly 180 people and we were not disappointed. The service was great, they were very accommodating and let us use their props and helped us set up. Initially we had a problem with A/V, but the wonderful Philip and unfortunately I didn't catch the name of the blonde woman, relentlessly tried to fix it without hesitation. They have a bar and "lobby" area, as well as a sit in pub type restaurant on the side, and I'm sure quite a few more amenities. This place is massive. I also enjoyed their Christmas decorations as they had like 15ft trees or something great like that. Nice and classy. Food was good! Unfortunately I missed the salad and dessert portion, but the chicken with vegetables was quite tasty. They also had a dessert plate at the end and those were also bomb. What's not to like? Gorgeous piece of real estate made into two incredible tracks. Sure it even play host to the Canadian Open a few times. Oh...why not a 5? They aerated the greens so horribly that it was like putting on broccoli!!!! You know, my game is challenged enough. There are trees, sands, water, waterfowls, thickets, roughs, narrow fairways, blind shots, short layups, and dogs legs...isn't that enough to want to stab yourself with a long iron? For the money that you pay for the privilege of playing one of their tracks, they could at least advise you that the North course is not in the best of shape. Give me a break on the fees or at least let me have a chance to choose the south course. All the whining aside, the track itself was great. The fall tree lines were something to enjoy and the sunny day out in "MID October!" was incredible! Bonus is that the water levels dropped considerably and since there was slow play, I took the opportunity to get grab a few of my golf ball donations back! Nice Haul! read more

This is a 3 star review for their afternoon tea. My sisters and I really enjoyed afternoon tea here. It was much better than we expected for afternoon tea in Markham. We liked it much better than the afternoon tea at the Hilton Suites along Hwy. 7. It was $17.95/person so the pricing is very reasonable. We were seated in their Arthur's Steakhouse restaurant area by the windows so it's bright and has a great view of their property (which will be a lot better in the summer, I'm sure). The tea selection is pretty broad. They have loose leaf and tea bag options to choose from. I had the White Pear loose leaf tea which I thoroughly enjoyed. I usually avoid fruity teas but this was light in flavour so it was nice. One of my sisters had the Mango Indica loose leaf tea that I was also eyeing - she liked it. I would probably get the Mango Indica tea the next time (yes, I will come back!). The 3 tiers of food had fruit, finger sandwiches and of course, scones. The scones were delicious. They were warm, slightly crusty/crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were served with a number of fruit preserves, devon cream, raspberry and orange butter. The raspberry and orange butter were standouts - light and fresh in flavour. We finished the scones and the waitress gave us additional scones without us asking. The finger sandwiches were good though they didn't provide us with enough for us to try each sandwich - no biggie since by the time we were done our scones we were half full. They had smoked salmon, tuna, egg salad, a number of vegetarian sandwiches and a grilled vegetables wrap. The fruits came in a variety: watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, kiwis, berries etc. The menu stated that afternoon tea is only from November to December but it's outdated as I came here today and my sister is going in the first week of April. This is one of two 5 star golf clubs that have public access, the other is Eagles Nest. Angus Glen is fairly pricey, but compared to some of the travel needed for other courses, this one is conveniently located. The grounds are always in good condition, but the spectacle is the newly refinished south course, which they have spruced up for the Pan Am Games next year. The south course is absolutely immaculate. Sand traps are full of fine beach type sand. You may enjoy the view, but be prepared to be frustrated, this is a long and treacherous course. read more

I hosted an Afternoon Tea Bridal Shower at Angus Glen in one of the loft Boardrooms and it was fabulous! We had 24 guests and it was a perfect fit. The boardroom overlooked the 18th hole so it was a gorgeous view. The food was excellent and the service was perfect. The freshly baked scones were the best, the sandwiches were delicious and the fruit was fresh! The bride and the guests were all so delighted about the atmosphere. When the event was over, everyone commented on what a lovely shower it was and that it was one of the best showers that they had attended. As a guest, you don' t know how much the couple has decided to pay for, but I believe that basic service and professionalism is needed for all wedding venues. So here goes. We were here just for the reception and cocktail hours. It started at 5:30pm and as it was a beautiful day, we had the use of the small cocktail area near the signing table and a walled off reception, as well as the entire terrace and patio with lots of seating. That was a huge space - it was just too bad people couldn't suck it up an go out there as it was hot. Two bars were set up out side and the bartenders were super friendly, especially if you tip them. When the main ballroom opened up it was beautiful. Large high ceilings, a medium sized dance floor (which, at first I thought was small, but was actually a good size). The food was okay, nothing spectacular. I was disappointed in undercooked pasta (vegetarian dish) and basically salted veggies. They had a sweet table near the end of the night, set up in a inconspicuous space. There are two bars on either side of the room, and two bathrooms as well. What was also nice, was how the terrace was open during the whole time, so great for some quiet time, meeting new people and just a stroll. Would have been nicer if there were some lighting in the area. One complaint; near the end of the night, they started clearing drinks on the table, some weren't even done (like my wine 2 times) and half finished beer. I understand how they are doing their job, but the couple was going on consumption not open bar - and this was not cool. We had a great time at the wedding, and was a nice comfy venue for everyone to enjoy the party. read more

My long overdue review that should have been written awhile back but didn't get a chance to...booked to come here for Mother's day Brunch, parking was quite easy, we were greeted at the door and were seated promptly...There were 3 of us plus a baby so we got a small table..they had special photo sessions that day and provided us with family photos. The variety of foods were pretty decent in choices and in taste. There were smoked salmon, eggs benedict, various salads, most breakfast brunch items you can think of...eggs, sausage and etcc.. Our server was very nice, checking up upon every once in awhile, refilling our waters and making sure we were doing fine during our time there...attentive (+1 star) I would recommend coming here for an occasion and treating someone dear to you to a nice brunch. Was here for a wedding rehearsal, ceremony, photo session. I thought the place was very beautiful and photos would definitely be magnificent. The staff was excellent especially the lady who coordinated with the rehearsal. She was very knowledgeable and patient. Very professional. The wait staff was excellent as well. Service is top notch here. But like all unionized places, the price is high. Also if your ceremony is outdoors & it happens to rain... the tent would cost extra. Yikes. I spent my Canada Day here eh! The golf course is truly beautiful, lush greens with serenity and joy of relieving stress with each golf swing. I went to the driving range because I am a golf newbie. But we first started our day here by grabbing an early dinner at the restaurant. I would never think of coming to a golf course for just dinner but many people did and I could tell because they were not dressed to play golf. We had the calamari which was great, and the dip was tasty! For the main, I was contemplating between Moroccan salad and the baja fish tacos, and as per the suggestion of the waiter and from the majority of people with me I went for the salad. The salad was good and super healthy since it comprised mainly of kale.. but I wish I chose the baja tacos with truffle fries. This place has a specialty called truffle fries, which is normal fries with Parmesan cheese and truffle oil. I thought truffle oil as chocolate oil, but its actually a type of very expensive mushroom. I will definitely be going back to try those fries! This a good place for a date too because you can dine on the balcony overlooking the well maintained grounds. Tip: you need a collared shirt to golf! read more

Outside staff was rude, had no clue what was going on, and seemed like they were "bothered" by our presence and our questions (1st time there) A pretty course, but the greens were in terrible condition; there were so many ball marks which were not repaired, it look like the moon, and made putting a joke. Plus, the round was close to 5 hours on a Friday; at one point I could count 6 foursomes waiting on 2 holes. Home of the Canadian Open in 2002 & 2007, Angus Glen Golf Club is a fantastic golf course that offers a true test of the game of golf for all skill levels. There are 2 different courses to choose from, the North and the South course. The North course is where the 2007 Canadian Open was played, and recently redesigned by Davis Love III. I guess it wasn't hard enough the first time around. Well having played both courses this past summer I came to realize two things - 1. Bring a lot balls with you, and 2. Bring a lot of money. The courses are both very difficult, and challenging for the "Intermediate" player that I am. I managed to loose plenty of balls in the water, and in the adjoining cow fields (Holes that line the pasture are a custom to a lot of MOOOOO-ING from its inhabitants - don't let that be an excuse for your errant shot!). I took three clients for a round of golf there last week on 9/27. The course was recommended to me. I paid $180/person but received far less than that it value: 1. The GPS system was down the entire round for the entire course 2. My clients were hassled by a course marshall for slow play on our 16th hole even though there was no one waiting behind us. The only time we had people waiting behind us the entire round was when we were waiting for the people in front of us. 3. We played the 18 holes in 4 hours, 32 minutes. 4. When I went to the pro shop to complain, they asked if I would like to speak to the head pro. I said yes and that I would be eating upstairs in their dining area. The head pro never stopped by. I have played many great courses for less money and a better overall experience than Angus Glen. When my customers were unjustifiably harrassed, that sealed my decision that I would never play here again. read more

Angus Glen Father's Day Brunch. Cost: $37pp. A group of five of us went for Father's Day Brunch, held in the MacKenzie Hall. The food was good but the service was extremely poor. The wait staff took your empty plates but you had to ask for water, and get your own coffee. I would not recommend this brunch. I was supposed to go there for afternoon tea but I've changed my mind. I had to go to the bar to pay the bill, no one came around and the wait staff quickly disappeared. read more

I dropped in for lunch one day at the recommendation of a friend, and was very surprised to find a quality menu with interesting choices. I was recommended to me by my friend to try the Avocado Burger, which I thought was an excellent blend of flavours. Well, very true, fresh avacado with fresh topping on an excellent burger that I would absolutely recommend. It's a little on the expensive side, but they don't skimp on quality. The experience at Angus was top notch. from the staff that greet you as you drop off your clubs, to the pro shop and the restaurant staff while we were having lunch after our round. We booked here a while back not knowing that the North Course was a complete joke the course was in shambles fairways were pretty well just dirt and the greens were terrible, we should have been told of the conditions and moved to the South course or at least had the round discounted from the $150 we were charged (it was not worth more than $50), also the service was quite below average, the experience was very disappointing for our entire group of 18 guys, we played Wooden Sticks the day before and that is a first class run operation that I suggest you check out before booking an outing at Angus Glen read more

Golfing north course; the easier of the two here. The driving range looks like some mad golfer went snaky and hacked the crap out of it and the grass looks like it could use a long drink. Didn't see a proper putting green and the chipping area is hidden beyond the driving range. Pace was slow which throws your game off, sucking your momentum and the first few greens looked sculled and pock marked. At this stage I began wondering if I just got rolled for $140. Sixth hole and no marshal around to keep pace up. Having to wait at a low end course might be ok but not at these high end ones. There is something bogus with how these courses calculate the pace of play - it just doesn't par with reality. Also noticed the GPS wasn't synced with the hole placements on some holes. Finished first nine at 40 so you know the course is fairly easy and forgiving but got to 11th hole and still no marshal - the pace is even slower ow so I started thinking of taking a nap and wishing I'd brought my computer to get some writing done. Then I Began fantasizing to myself that if elected PM I would enact the law of 'ready golf' and everyone who played must pass an exam on course management and using their carts properly. But finally the marshal came over the hill and said the obvious about slow pace which was now about 30 minutes behind. Some players in front were atrocities, killing thousands of innocent worms with their burners, losing balls on every hole and then spending more that the allotted time to look for them. Then the guy I was paired up with starts farting like a banshee (for some reason I picture banshees having lots of gas) yet in the end I finished at 88. And so it's been about 10 years since I last golfed this north course and I suspect it will be another 10 before I return. Next year I'll try the South and hopefully it will play better read more
