I got the #3 combo and I got my sandwich with the Medium Heat and I got the other one as Spicy Level. The medium spice level has a great kick to it and flavorful. The hot was unbearable and didn't have any real flavor, it was just extremely spicy. I couldn't eat that piece of chicken cuz it was so spicy hot, but its good to know the flavors are accurate. I can only imagine how spicy the X-Hot and Angry are lol. I subbed out the fries for some mac and cheese (small upcharge) and it was pretty good too. The service was a little slow, I was in a group of 6 and they took three of our orders, made us wait for our food and then took three more of our orders, which led to the food coming out at different times. One star, ironic name, because now I'm the Angry Chick. I just witnessed a serious food safety violation right in front of my eyes. While I was waiting for my order to be bagged, one of the employees at Angry Chickz was showing her coworker ready to bag my order a finger injury in the middle of food prep. I asked if that injury happened during the preparation of my food, and she quickly said "no, it was after." Really? Because the timing seemed way too close for comfort. I hope she's okay but to make it worse, I tried calling the store multiple times to ask for a refund no one answered, no voicemail, no way to get in touch. It's incredibly frustrating. I'm disgusted with the Food safety. Be proactive, dump the food and remake or refund instead of giving the food to the customer. This is exactly why I usually stick to higher-end places. At least they try. Here, it felt like no one cared and honestly, they probably aren't even paid enough to. But that doesn't excuse visible health risks in the kitchen. There has been a major glut in Hot Chicken Sandwich places sprouting up around San Diego in the last few years. Because of that, competition can be pretty fierce with everyone trying to cash in on the craze. But, for every hole in the wall that cooks their own buns and has secret Chili Oil and Tennessee Hot Batter recipes, there's another 2 or 3 franchise spots that have flashy signs and paint on the walls, but then rely on store bought rolls and pre packaged sauces. I was excited when I found Angry Chickz on Yelp. I asked my father and brother to come out and join me and try this new sandwich place. Man, what a major letdown this place was. First off, it's been hinted that the food here is brought in frozen and fried to order. I have no idea if that's true, but it honestly would not surprise me. What I do know, is that behind the counter were bags of hamburger buns you can easily pickup for cheap over at Costco. Not even the large, good ones, either; I'm talking about the small, Francisco brand that fall apart the moment a bit of sauce hits the bread. The slaw also has the same ingredients and vegetable cut style that the 5 pound bags of premade slaws from Costco have ... just putting that out there. Needless to say, what should have a been a messy and still enjoyable sandwich was just a disgusting mess that fell apart before the halfway mark of my lunch. My son and I split a Combo #1 Mild. The slaw was alright, with a nice crunch to contrast against the sogginess of the breading and oil, but the chicken itself was oddly flavorless. I would think this would stem from not marinating it before flouring and cooking, but the spice and herbs should have been present all the way through the meat and not just added as a thick, dry dusting over the basic crust. Sadly, the fries on the side were the best part of the meal. Also on the table were some Angry Fries, essentially another Combo #1, sans the buns, in a bowl. The whole of it shared the exact same issues with the sandwiches, eventually making me wonder why I had ordered it in the first place. I ate a small bit of and saved the rest for my wife at home. She took one bite before shaking her head in disgust and refusing to eat anymore. I honestly couldn't blame her. Anyway, a great spot near the Oceanside Beach, but with poorly made and disappointing food. I seriously doubt I'll ever come out this way to try again when there are safer and tastier options when traveling this far from home. I had a pickup at 7:45 and once I came in I didn't get a welcome, I came up to the register and asked if my food was ready since I was a little early but i knew I was a little early so I did mention to the worker it wasn't a problem to wait. But I'm glad they did make my meal before the time it was suppose to be ready, once I left I was checking inside the bag and only found once sauce but I paid for a second one. So I went up to the front and spoke to a young guy who was clocking In to work if he can place some soap in the unisex restroom. He stated he would ask once if the team mates in the back if they have some, he came out and said sorry they don't have soap at all. After frequenting both Angry Chickz and Dave's now I'm going to have to say Angry Chickz holds the tilte right now. Some of the reasons why I pick Angry Chickz are they have more on the menu, their medium spicy is the perfect heat to me and I like their sauce better. Their chicken is always a nice size and juicy. The fries are perfectly seasoned to me but could be a little heavy to some. I usually go with either combo 2 or 3 or sometimes I get their angry Mac which is huge at least 2 servings for me. For $16, you get two chicken sandwiches (spice level from no heat to a range of 5 heat levels) and fries. The fries were good. Got cold pretty fast. I tried both medium and hot in terms of spice. First time trying Angry Chickz last week. There was a line out the door when we got there(must be good) The place was packed with people waiting for food. The staff was attentive and greeted everyone that came in. After we were waiting in line for about 10mins a staff member did notify the customers that order wait times would be about 30 mins. Not one customer left or seemed to care about the wait. I think the crew was a little overwhelmed by the volume of business But they all handled with composure!! The food was really good! I'm not a super fan of burn your face off "hot chicken" so I got the mildest spice level, nephew got a spicy level and he was sweating, everything tasted great. Definitely will be back!
