The gracefully engineered honeycombs, their social organization, the fundamental contribution to the ecosystem as pollinators, to the miracle of honey--a divine sweet substance that doesn't spoil and has many health advantages, not the least of which is to fight pollen allergies. The trick, though, is getting it close to the source, unfiltered, unprocessed. Where to go? That's where the Heights Honey Bee Project comes in. The Heights Honey *Z* Bee Project is an enterprise begun by Dalia Zelko (the Master Bee Keeper) partnered with Jamie Zelko, both of Zelko Bistro fame. (You can find the products there--they don't have a storefront of their own as of this writing.) The goal of this project is to have an Apiary that's maintained using all-natural and sustainable methods. The honey is phenomenal. Dark, rich, and golden, and intensely flavored. My latest purchase had a tag on it that indicated it was extracted from the hive 4 days prior. It is a great addition to the Heights, my land of milk and honey. When I stopped by on a weekday evening at 9pm it was packed. They had stations setup throughout the store to order different goods, which helped to alleviate the rush. Knafeh ($6) - They offered 2 types of knafeh, one with cheese and one with custard. I went with the one made with Nabulsi cheese and topped with shredded phyllo, and soaked in sugar syrup. It was warm, crispy and delicious! Karak tea ($5) - This milk tea drink was made with aromatic spices, primarily cardamom, cloves, ginger and cloves. I was happy to see they used whole milk instead of evaporated milk. The drink was incredibly rich and creamy and tasted great. Turkish delight ($18 / lb.) - This was extremely fresh, soft and chewy, made with cornstarch, sugar, nuts. Some of the varieties I tried had chocolate and/or fruits. The baklava here was fresh made with layers of phyllo dough, chopped nuts, and held together with some honey. The nut offerings here included, almonds, walnuts, peanuts and a few more. Overall I was impressed with everything they offered here with the exception of the nuts, which I thought were just ok. I'd definitely return if I was in the area.

For example, with the Turkish delights and ice cream selections, only a few items are labeled. For most of them, you have to guess the flavor or ingredients. When I asked questions, there was a language barrier, and the staff member behind the counter was unable to clearly explain what the items were in English. This can be especially frustrating for customers with food allergies or dietary restrictions. In the U.S., I would expect all flavors and ingredients to be clearly labeled so customers can make informed choices. Even if staff members are not fluent in English, having accurate labels for flavors and ingredients would greatly improve the customer experience. The desserts themselves are excellent, but better product labeling would make the experience much more enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

There is nothing like the taste of locally grown, pesticide-free produce: *Corn is absolutely delicious. Worth the extra cost, and remember that these will not be picture-perfect ears because no pesticides are used. Snap off or cut off the top if you find a little worm and remember that this is what you do in exchange for natural produce. *Watermelons are addictive. Scrumptious! *Cantaloupe: sugar-sweet. Grab it when they get it, otherwise you'll miss them because they sell fast! *Red potatoes are WAY better than what you'll get in the grocery store. These reds make hands-down the best mashed potatoes you will ever eat. *Tomatoes (either from their farm or other local farms): nothing like what you get in any grocery store. These ARE tomatoes. *Squash: zucchini, butternut, acorn, gold bar and others. The flavors explode in your mouth! *Eggplant: the regular or Japanese (when they have it) variety has the most distinct flavor whether you're making parmesan, grilling it or frying it. *Greens: kale and other greens. Super tender! *Cabbage: makes the best coleslaw you will ever eat. Stock up on local honey before the end of summer, too. Honey lasts forever, and they will be sold out come August. The parking is a little tight so I would suggest going earlier to when they open up. It seems like its very community like there most of the customers seemed to know each other as well as the owner. So when I entered in (looking somewhat lost) the owner was kind enough to walk me through what was where and answer any questions I had. The fresh eggs and bacon were enough for me to come out again however they have so much selection fresh veggies, beef bacon (didn't even know that was a thing). The staff was helpful and patient with all my questions which made it easier to make selections and make hurried choices.
