Have Dedra do your hair and makeup!!

As a veteran Seattle wedding planner who was planning my sister's wedding in Napa Valley, I ran…read moreinto obstacles to find the right fit for hair and makeup in that area for my sister's wedding. I happily work with Sorrida Salon often in the Seattle area and when I realized Sorrida Salon also does work in the bay area I immediately begged them to work with us! I knew that Michelle and her team would be the perfect fit for this wedding, and they were. From the trial with the bride, through the entire wedding day, everything was wonderful. They showed up early, we had a great time while getting dolled up and the entire wedding party looked amazing. Our styles held all day/night despite a windy day, outdoor photos and ceremony, and a rowdy late night dance party. Thank you Michelle and Taylor for all of your hard work and contribution in making my sister's wedding day perfect! And of course, I will continue to sing your praises for our Seattle clients as well! Thank you, thank you!

Sydney worked with me to do two trials to nail the hair I wanted. On the day of the wedding, they managed to work with all of my bridesmaids, who wanted different hairstyles, and my mother and mother-in-law wonderfully. None of us are big daily makeup wearers, so they did a great job of keeping everyone comfortable but still looking incredible! And they were actually done with everyone a bit early, which according to my photographer never happens with other local hair and makeup teams! My only minor issues are that I had some trouble getting in touch with Sydney between my first and second trial to discuss changes and that my lip color sadly did not stay on at all. Otherwise, they were a joy to work with and I felt beautiful on my wedding day!

It breaks my heart to have to write this review…read more We had Karen Vogt do a test styling for my now wife a few months ago. Her quality, elegance, and taste were wonderful and we were so excited to have her expertise in our corner. Days before the wedding, we got the nightmare news. Someone in our party had come down with COVID. I immediately informed all of our guests and vendors because we really wanted to do the right thing. I respect her right to change her mind and not to be a part of our wedding if she's not comfortable with the risks. I know each of us handle COVID risk and comfort differently - that's not where she let us down. But she told us she wasn't doing our wedding now given the COVID diagnosis because she had plans for a future wedding. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that that other wedding booked first, but that's me fighting for her and giving her every possibility. She didn't even have the heart to recommend an alternative or trusted friend, or even to suggest a place we might look on short notice to try to find an alternative. We had to scramble to make sure my wife even had a stylist for our wedding to the point friends were offering to do their best effort as amateurs! I don't work in a customer facing role, and in her shoes even I would have sincerely apologized things went the way they went and suggested a few places to look on short notice to try to make sure the couple had their best shot at finding an alternative. She knew what declining on short notice meant for us. Her behavior was deeply unprofessional, impersonal, and unconcerned with our outcomes, and I cannot recommend her. When contingencies come up, can you count on her to take ownership and have your back?

Plus she has such a charming personality and is VERY easy and fun to work with. We recently worked together in a photoshoot, Mandy made our model look so magical and effortless, creating 2 different looks to emphasize the vibe we were going for on each set. She definitely helped create a lot of wow reactions on set and once people saw the photos. I cannot wait to work together again!

Her style makes you look naturally beautiful in person and in photos. She was very easy to work with, very reasonable prices, and adaptive with your preparation area. I highly recommend her!

During our trial, she said "ha, I'm always late, but it seems to work out" No kidding, we agreed on 8am start, she showed up at 922. Her second artist, her brother, showed up closer to 8, and was amazing, no complaint with him. I do not see how someone runs a business without answering any texts or emails. She posts on instagram all the time, so that's probably the best way to find her even after you are a paying client. There's a number on the website but even when you call it, it basically says they don't answer phones. It got to the point without any communication, my bridesmaids all brought their hair and makeup supplies because we weren't even sure Urbanista would show up at all. Not great vibes to an already stressful day. We would have rebooked and lost the deposit, but hard to find makeup artist less than 2 months before event. Would not recommend, added so much extra stress. They get 2 stars instead of 1, because her brother was amazing, and people did compliment on my makeup (which he did).

I booked Jara for my bridal make up back in September 2013…read more I did a lot of research, looking through hundreds of local artists' pictures in my area before I came across Jara's website. I loved her style!!!! I called and made a trial appointment with Jara. Once I see the magic she did, I was sold! She was friendly and made me feel comfortable during the trial, also she made sure to follow my requests on what I want on each detail (my eye shadow, my lashes, etc.). but she's not shy to tell you what you want might not bring out your best features. She's also very professional and understanding. I love that she was on-time even though she had to be at my house at 5:30 AM to get ready for me and my whole bridal party. I'd never had my makeup done, so knew very little of even what to say...darkening my eyebrows? Fake lashes? What? Lucky for me, Jara is an absolute pro and a total hoot. I was so comfortable during my trial and absolutely loved the way I looked on our wedding day. My new husband damn near fell over when he saw me. My mom and sister looked incredible too, and Jara even managed to convince my normally zero-makeup best friend to wear a bit for the wedding, and we were one good-looking gaggle of gals. The little makeup kit was just what I needed for minor touch-ups, but the majority of the makeup held up incredibly well, even through tears, lots of kissing (wedding day, after all!), and a lot of dancing to Michael Jackson and the Boss. Jara made me feel at ease and comfortable, and even made me laugh during my pre-wedding jitters. I really loved working with her, and I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Ja was awesome (and very patient with me), we didn't hit it out of the park the first time so she did another trial run with me a few days before my wedding to get it perfect. And we did! She did an excellent job making my face look flawless. She has great products and my makeup lasted all night long. I used a colleague of hers (Ja set it all up) to do our hair (Jessica) and she was so lovely as well. Patient, laid back, and did such a good job giving every lady the hair she wanted. Only things to note was that there were so scheduling hiccups but it was all easily sorted! I would highly recommend her for wedding day makeup!

I'm not one to wear much makeup on a daily basis and was afraid of it making me look over-done and not like myself. Of course, I wanted to look like a bride, but still clean and fresh - like myself, but just bumped up a couple levels. Because I had a long day (a Hindu ceremony at 10am and Western ceremony at 5pm), Ja recommended airbrush foundation, which was perfect because it lasted all day, even through tears and didn't rub off. I'm so happy I did the trial run because it allowed me to go all in with makeup and then decide what edits I wanted to make. Ultimately, we decided to tone things down a bit from trial, to a more neutral look. Ja and I had a 5 min chat on the big day, I showed her some photos and she got to work. Because she knew I was nervous, she was great about talking me through all the steps and paused along the way so I could see if I wanted more. In the end, I was SO HAPPY with both looks and felt comfortable the entire day. She really listening. She was on time, patient with me and my bridal party (4 bridesmaids and 2 moms), was flexible and had a great demeanor about herself. She helped to keep the mood fun and light in the bridal suite. I would recommend her to any gal on her big day.
